Tolani Otedola, the first daughter of billionaire Femi Otedola, who learnt the rudiments of music in England and has completed her education, has decided to take her music to the next level in Nigeria. In a recent interview, she somewhat accepted that she takes advantage of her father’s name but she is trying to work hard and hopes that her music speaks for her. In the chat with GoldMyneTV, she said, “If you want to be good at anything, you have to learn it in school or somewhere. I have been preparing myself for the music industry. At a time, I was working, I was in the university and I was studying music too. I had to learn how to play instruments and how to write music.” According to her, she will never take it personally if anyone who attributes her success to her father’s fame. “If you tell me I am taking advantage of my father’s fame, I will not argue with you. I have already accepted that people will form their own opinions about me and I don’t intend to fight it. I will try to work hard and hope that my music speaks for me. “It’s a mistake for people to think that since we were born into a wealthy home, we don’t need to work for anything. My father takes care of us, but his money is not ours. Parents like to support their children, but I don’t think they want us to depend on them forever. One day, my parents will not be around again and I will need to take care of myself.” By the way, Billionaire CEO of Forte Oil, Femi Otedola, is blessed with four children, three daughters and a son. The businessman spoke at the inauguration of the Caucus and State Leaders Council at the party secretariat in Lagos on Friday. He insisted that the ruling party had failed the people of the state and other Nigerians, adding that it was time for the PDP to take over government. “The APC has failed in the state, making one to ask if anything is working now in Lagos. “It is time for the PDP to take over government. A group under the aegis of APC Elders Advisory Council, Plateau State, on Friday endorsed President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Simon Lalong, saying they have credibly performed and deserve a second term. Addressing journalists at a press conference in Jos, the Plateau state capital, the Council’s Chairman, Captain Joseph Din rtd, said their reasons for endorsing Buhari, is because of his achievement in tackling insurgency, his unprecedented fight against corruption, economic development, among other achievements. Din said, “This government has tried in the area of provision of adequate security, considering that it came to power when insurgents were holding 13 local governments in the North-East as their territory and even here in Plateau State, we were devastated but our armed forces with the support of government have decimated the insurgents and have reclaimed our territory. “This is so because Buhari’s government has the political will to insurgency. Simi and Adekunle Gold are one of the top artist in the Nigerian music industry who knows what they are doing and at any point in time gives it all their best, but at no point in time has any of this two admitted to be dating each other The two singers in many occassions have been spotted together which brings an imprint of them dating on the mind of their fans. Their appearances at many scence seems to show their love for each other. Adekunle Gold and Simi has denied the fact that they are dating in many occasion but this still hasn’t stopped their fans thing of a possibility in both dating. A photo that was just released has helped the more to bring a clearance to the picture of them dating and probably keeping it from the public. Adekunle Gold mentioned in an interview some few days back that he has a girlfriend and she is the type that doesn’t seem to enjoy the spotlight so he would prefer not to say much about her as that may get her offended. See his statement when asked about his girlfriend: She understands the nature of my job but sometimes, she asks questions. I like to keep my relationship away from the public. What if my girlfriend doesn’t want to be in the limelight? I think people like me because of my music, not because of what I do in my private moments. Simi, on the other hand, is a well known celebrity – she is in the spotlight. So that could indicate that she was not the one Adekunle Gold was actually referring to. But their chemistry seems to say otherwise. They were both even recently involved in a controversy involving Tinsel star, Dorcas Fapson, when a Facebook user called them stupid for airing their opinions on the rape allegation Dorcas Fapson made against a Taxify Taxi driver. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/02/adekunle-gold-and-simi-keeps.html

Recently, it was noticed that two of the HKN gang, Sina Adeleke (@Sina Rambo) and Adewale Adeleke (@ChairmanHKN) have both been unverified by Instagram. The coveted blue check mark which is somewhat a status symbol, doesn’t come easy and we rarely hear of accounts getting “Unverified”. It could be an error from Instagram hopefully this is rectified soon… Have a look at their verified accounts. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/02/trouble-in-paradise-sina-rambo-and.html

The Islamic women organisation in Al Muminaat, has said that telling a female Muslim to take off her hijab in the public is not only an insult to the Muslim but a war on the religion. The leader of Al Muminaat, Hajia Nimatullah Abdulquadri disclosed this in her address to newsmen at a press conference in commemoration of the World Hijab Day in Jibowu, Lagos. Abdulquadri decries the infringement of the right of female Muslims provided by the United Nations. She, however, commended the House of Representatives for looking into the Firdaus Amasa issue, She also encouraged Muslim women who are going through persecution because of their use of hijab to remain calm as justice is on the way. Abdulquadri said: “It is really saddening to observe that, despite the clear provisions of Article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly which provides for the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion, Muslim women are still being subjected to a lot of persecution, ridicule, oppression and injustice because of their religion. “World Hijab Day is an annual event founded by Nazma Khan in 2013. This event takes place on February 1st each year in about 100 countries worldwide. It was born out of the challenges that the Muslim woman face such as discrimination and harassment, due to the observance of her faith. From the continuous denial of the right to wear hijab to school by girls; to the insistence of institutions that the ears of Hijabis be exposed during data capture; to Amasa Firdaus denial of being called to bar. “It is commendable that the House of Representatives has decided to wade into the Firdaus Amasa issue, we must say that they should not only ensure she gets justice, but be compensated for the trauma she went through. “Fidaus Amasa has actually made it abundantly clear that the Nigerian nation is not serious about the Girl-child education and giving equal opportunity to all citizens. It is telling us that education is not to get those who chose to be Muslims and express their being so. “This isn’t a hidden agenda, but an open one for those who want to see, or else why would a Muslim lady in the Hijab who has gone through the rigours of the university, the Nigerian law school and has excelled in character and knowledge be denied her rights to be called to the Nigerian bar. Incidences of discriminations, denials, persecutions, profiling, harassments abound even in public institutions. Institutions powered by our taxes! “These must stop forthwith. After all, in the Nigerian constitution as we have it today still recognizes and protect religions and religious practices and expressions. Hijab is a religious duty enjoined upon the Muslim woman by God. “In Quran 24:31 Allah says ‘And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty, that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what (may ordinarily) appear thereof, that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty…’ ” “It is a religious duty and an obligation on every Muslim woman in the observance of her faith. And this right to believe and practice ones chosen faith is an inalienable right of every human being, is entrench in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999( as amended) “Sec38. “(1) Every person shall be entitled to freedom of thought, conscience and religion, including freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom (either alone or in community with others, and in public or in private) to manifest and propagate his religion or belief in worship, teaching, practice and observance. “(2) No person attending any place of education shall be required to receive religious instruction or to take part in or attend any religious ceremony or observance if such instruction ceremony or observance relates to a religion other than his own, or religion not approved by his parent or guardian. “To wear the Hijab by the Muslim woman is the practical application of these constitutional provisions. A sure way to call to anarchy is to jettison the provisions of the law. Our 2018 theme is My Hijab, My Right.” http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/02/islamic-group-kicks-against-ordering.html

The s*x scandal controversy between Canada-based Nigerian singer, Stephanie Otobo and Apostle Suleman, has escalated to another level after a shocking video was released. A few days after Apostle Johnson Suleman released a video of Miss Stephanie Otobo apologising to him and saying she was hired by unnamed politicians to unhinge the preacher with a s-x scandal, a newly released video has surfaced to show the confession was scripted by Apostle Suleman and his handlers. The almost nine-minute video was recorded on June 21, 2017, by Canada-based Worship Media. Introducing Miss Otobo in the video were two people Chidi, and Erica. They said they met Miss Otobo last year after the s*x scandal broke between her and Apostle Suleiman and had left her broken. She sought spiritual and moral support from them, which they offered. Chidi and Erica said Miss Otobo told them that she was under pressure from Apostle Suleman to apologize and lie that it was the Nigerian government that hired her to destroy him. In the video, Miss Otobo herself said she was phoned by Apostle Suleiman's agents in Canada, US and Nigeria, urging her to return to Nigeria and tell the lies that had been scripted by the preacher. When the pressure piled on unbearably and she decided to visit Nigeria to follow up on the case slammed against her by the police working closely with Suleiman. Miss Otobo met with Chidi and Erica and requested to have a video recorded, as she did not know what could happen to her in Nigeria. She urged them to release the video in case any untoward event happened on her visit to Nigeria. Speaking, Miss Otobo thanked those who have supported her and stated that Apostle Suleman was pressuring her family and others to lie that the government was behind the scandal. "This is what Suleman is asking me to do," she said. She stated that she didn't know how far the preacher was ready to go to extract a confession from her. She wondered why Apostle Suleman didn't see the scandal coming if he is a true man of God. Chidi, who introduced the video, said he received a text from a source apparently working with Apostle Suleman on Sunday, warning him against releasing any more video claiming that over time, Miss Otobo had confessed that he was also part of the plan to destroy the preacher. The "aide" also said the preacher's camp is ready to release videos showing Miss Otobo saying how Chidi was part of the plot. Chidi, however, said he had passed on the message to his lawyers. Last week, and days after she appeared in a court hearing in Lagos and also filed an affidavit asking a Lagos high court to demand to have the priest manhood examined and compared to those she took from phone s*x session, Ms. Otobo suddenly disappeared after meeting with her lawyers in Lagos. On Saturday morning she was shown on video "apologizing" to the controversial priest to the consternation of church members who apparently didn't know it was all scripted. Since appearing in Apostle Suleman's church for the confession, Ms. Otobo has not been heard of again, fuelling speculation that she might be in danger of being held against her will. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/01/apostle-suleman-told-me-to-make-false.html

A Federal High Court in Abuja said yesterday that there were no evidence supporting the claim by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) that its fleeing leader, Nnamdi Kanu was being held the Nigerian Army. Justice Binta Nyako, in a ruling yesterday, rejected an application by IPOB, seeking to compel the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) to produce Kanu. The ruling was on the application by IPOB seeking “an order of Habeas Corpus ad subjiciendum, commanding the respondent (Buratai), to produce the applicant in court.” IPOB had, in a supporting affidavit, claimed not have not seen or heard from Konu since September 14, 2017, when men of the Nigerian Army allegedly invaded his house “on a murderous raid, where life and mortar bullets were fired on unarmed and defenceless populace, leaving 28 persons dead and abducting many”. The COAS, in a counter-affidavit, denied knowledge of Kanu’s whereabouts. He said contrary to claims in the suit, soldiers who were deployed to the South-East for ‘Operation Python Dance II, did not have any contact whatsoever with Kanu on September 12 or 14, or anytime thereafter as alleged. He added that the Nigerian Army did not, at any time, arrest or take Kanu into custody within the period the military operation lasted. He also denied the allegation that soldiers invaded the IPOB leader’s house in Afara-Ukwu Ibeku, Umuahia, Abia State. In her ruling yesterday, Justice Nyako observed that the applicant failed to provide sufficient and credible evidence to convince the court that Kanu was indeed in the custody of the Nigerian Army. The judge said: ”The doctrine of last seen”, which the applicant relied upon, even though applicable in murder cases, has no statutory backing. Justice Nyado, who observed that Kanu was listed as the first applicant, said she was surprised that someone said to be missing, was the one seeking reliefs from the court. She said the supporting affidavit filed by Kanu’s lawyer, Infeanyi Ejiofor, contained criminal allegations against the Nigerian Army that must be proved beyond reasonable doubt.” The judge added: “Has the applicant placed enough evidence to show that the respondent was the last to see the applicant? Was there any evidence that he was last seen with even one soldier? “The onus of proof will not shift from the applicant to the respondent except the applicant is able to prove that he was last seen by the respondent. This, they have failed to do. “This application fails and it is hereby dismissed. Be ready for your case”, Justice Nyako said. Shortly after the court’s ruling, Ejiofor urged the court to guide parties on what next steps would be taken. Justice Nyako said: “As far as I am concerned, the applicant is on bail. Was he not released on bail based on an undertaking by sureties? “The sureties guaranteed to produce the applicant in court for his trial, so three of them should produce him. They made an undertaking and deposed to the fact that they will produce him to stand trial. “If there is any reason they cannot produce him, they should tell me on that date,” Justice Nyako said. The IPOB leader is facing a five-count treasonable felony charge the Federal Government preferred against him and four other pro-Biafra agitators, Chidiebere Onwudiwe, Benjamin Madubugwu, David Nwawuisi and Bright Chimezie. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/01/ipob-no-evidence-kanu-is-in-armys.html

Benue State governor, Dr. Samuel Ortom, yesterday faulted Minister of Defence Mansur Dan-Ali for attributing the invasion of the state by killer herdsmen to the enactment of anti-open grazing laws. He said it was unfortunate that the minister prefer conferring immunity on cattle to human beings. He said herdsmen attack on farmers is a monster that has the capacity of consuming the entire country. He said as at Thursday, there were reports of killings in Guma part of the state. Ortom, who reacted to the Minister’s claims at the Benue People’s House, asked President Muhammadu Buhari to caution the minister. He said: “It is unfortunate, but I want to console myself that that thing is not coming from the Honourable Minister. But if it did, I’ll say that it is very, very unfortunate. Then the solution to the security challenges we have in this country is not in sight having those kinds of people in position who are not able to give quality advice and to also proffer solution to the security problems we have here. “For instance, if you say it is because of the law that killings by herdsmen are going on in Benue, is there any law prohibiting open grazing in Adamawa State? Is there any one in Plateau State? Is there any law in Kaduna, Ondo, Bayelsa, Imo, Ebonyi, Delta or Edo State? “In Edo State, cattle have taken over even schools. This is provoking. It is like dancing on the graves of those people who were murdered and slaughtered in this state on the first of January. “It’s unfortunate that you have those kinds of people who are saddled with the responsibility of providing security for our country. I do not want to join issues with him, but I will personally see him and try to find out why he had to say that. The other day, a report came from the Department of State Services (DSS) that it was the Islamic State of West Africa (ISWA) terrorist organisation that is taking over, and I also heard that the minister was quoted as saying we should accommodate foreigners. Foreigners who come here illegally should be accommodated? “So if a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is coming out to encourage our citizens to do illegal things, I now begin to see why they have given immunity that is the prerogative of the President and the Vice President, Governors and Deputy Governors, to herdsmen who kill and even to cattle. “So, cattle in Nigeria have more immunity than human beings. This is unfortunate, and I look forward that he will apologise to us and retract what he said, because it is an insult on our collective leadership. “It is wrong. And let the minister know that we are more intelligent than he thinks we are. We will continue to do the right thing. We’re not asking for anything outside the laws of this land. The law prohibiting open grazing that we have enacted was legitimate as enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and as law-abiding citizens, we will continue to do this.” Ortom asked the Federal Government to address the security challenge at hand instead of diverting attention. He said: “I want to advise the Federal Government to face this challenge squarely because it is their responsibility to provide security for lives and property, because we as a state don’t own the security apparatus of this country. “So it is their responsibility. Instead of diverting attention, they should address the security challenges at hand. “Today, they will say that Ortom is arming 6,000 militia and tomorrow they will go and sponsor people to write rubbish about me and all that just to try to divert attention. Why not face the real issue that is confronting us? “This is a monster that has the capacity of consuming the entire country, and we must arise as leaders and support Mr. President to ensure that we surmount this. Responding to a question, he asked the President to caution the Defence Minister. He added: “Well, I’ll see what Mr. President will do, because I’m sure that he must have also heard what the minister said and I expect that he’ll respond to that because it’s wrong. “I want to believe that the Mr. President I know and who I supported and I’m still supporting is an upright person who is always truthful and he’ll say the right thing and caution his minister, because I can’t believe that a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria at this time will come and add insult to our injury. “We are pained by what this man came out to say yesterday.” On the likely backlash of his protest against the killings in the state by the powers that be, he said he would continue to stick to the truth. “Whatever it is I say, it does not matter. As long as I’m on the side of the truth and doing the wish of my people, I’m satisfied. I don’t care about any gang-up. It doesn’t matter. “But I heard it; gang up to do this and that. But it doesn’t matter,” he said. The governor also said the death toll in Benue killings could be higher than 73. He expressed regrets that the herdsmen were also killing security personnel. “I’ve not got the complete figure, but there is a committee working on that. But even on the burial, I did say that the deaths were more than 73. Even yesterday, there were some killings in Guma, including a policeman. One policeman was wounded and one is still missing. You see, these people are joking. “If terrorists that are hired by herdsmen under the leadership of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore that are known by the Federal Government have gone beyond killing our people who are civilians to killing security personnel, if security men are being killed in this manner, where is our safety? That is what the minister of Defence should be concerned about. “They know where these people are, so they are making me to believe that the Minister of Defence is also part of the conspiracy against Benue State, and is not about grazing, it is about occupation, taking over the land. “That is what Miyetti Allah said, and they have accepted that it should be so. This is not correct.” Addressing State House correspondents after a meeting President Muhammadu Buhari had with security chiefs on Thursday, Dan-Ali blamed the recent killings in Benue State on the state’s anti-open grazing law. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/01/herdsmen-defence-minister-under-attack.html

Some ex-militant groups in the riverine areas of Ondo State yesterday invaded the Oba-ile, Akure office of the State Oil Producing Area Development Commission (OSOPADEC) amid wild protest. They hinged their grouse on the failure of the state government to fulfill its promise of empowering them after submitting their arms since November last year. The protesters set bonfire and blocked motorists from gaining access to OSOPADEC office, while workers were barred from operating in their offices. It took the effort of mobile policemen who shot sporadically into the air to disperse the protesting ex militants before normalcy was restored to the area. The militant groups described the amnesty programme organized by the Ondo state government between November 9 and November 21 last year as a sham. The militant groups are the United Sea-wolf Avengers, Awaja Camp, Niger Delta Militant Vanguard, Dragon and Lion Camp. The groups were led to the OSOPADEC office by their leaders – General Deji Williams (United Sea-wolf Avengers), General Seamaco(Awaja Camp), General Ebiee(Niger Delta Militant Vanguard), General Mayowa (Dragon Camp) and General Bbanju (Lion Camp). They started their protest at the OSOPADEC office on Thursday accusing the Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi of allegedly allotting slots to his friends, allies and political family. According to them, instead of using the amnesty programme to achieve peace in the riverine area, Agboola is using the exercise to build structure for his Senatorial ambition. The militants threatened to return to the creeks, if the state government refused to honor its own part of the agreement. They urged President Muhammadu Buhari to send his men to the state so as to ensure that due process is followed and nepotism does not rule over sanity. However, the state government described the protesters as ‘’ bunch of disgruntled jobless youth masquerading as ex-militants’’. The sate’s Commissioner for Information, Mr .Yemi Olowolabi said the amnesty has not only been lauded in the state, but recommended as model for other Niger Delta states. Olowolabi said over 4,000 ex-militants were registered into the amnesty program but the Amnesty Office in Abuja sent 1,000 forms leading to rationing of the forms among the various camps. The commissioner said the number of those protesting were insignificant to those who have submitted arms to the amnesty office. In his reaction, the Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO) Femi Joseph said some of the protesting militants have been arrested and would be charged to court after investigations have been concluded. He said in spite of the pleadings by the state commissioner of Police, Gbenga Adeyanju who was personally at the scene to make peace with the protesters, they still went ahead with violent destruction of properties and breach of peace. Joseph said the police had to use minimum force through smoke to drive them out of OSOPADEC premises when they were becoming a nuisance. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/01/ex-militants-protest-in-ondo-threaten.html

The Nigerian naira on Wednesday, January 24, stabilized at N360.25 per United States dollar in the Investors’ and Exporters’ (I&E) window. Data from the Financial Market Dealers Quote (FMDQ) showed that the indicative exchange rate for the window, known as Nigerian Autonomous Foreign Exchange, NAFEX, remained unchanged at N360.25 per dollar. Meanwhile, the volume of dollars traded fell by 43 percent yesterday to $306.70 from $263.59 million on Tuesday. The naira however appreciated by N1 to N364 per dollar in the parallel market. This is just as the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) had on Monday injected $210 million into the foreign exchange market. Confirming the development, the Acting Director, Corporate Communications Department (CCD), CBN, Mr. Isaac Okorafor said that the CBN offered $100million to authorized dealers in the wholesale segment of the market, while the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) segment got the sum of $55 million. Currency speculators risk losses as rising reserves, oil prices strengthen naira Meanwhile, there are strong indications that if rising reserves, oil prices in the international market and foreign exchange (forex) market liquidity are sustained, the Naira may be strengthened against other currencies from now till a greater part of 2018. The development may spell doom for currency speculators and hoarders, including politicians who may have reserved some foreign currencies for 2019 electioneering campaigns. The Naira’s positive outlook in the short term is riding on the back of resurging reserves’ profile, now nearing $41 billion and a stable crude oil prices at the international market, now hovering around $68 and $71 per barrel. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/01/how-nigerias-naira-fared-against-us.html

Soyebi disclosed that so far over four million Nigerians had been registered across the country, in the exercise that began on April 27, 2017. “The nationwide CVR is to afford all eligible Nigerians, 18 years and above, who did not register in the previous exercise, an opportunity to do so. “So far over four million have registered across the country. “The commission wishes to assure all eligible Nigerians that the CVR exercise is designed to continue indefinitely as envisaged by the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended). “However, as provided for in Section 9 (5) of the Electoral Act (as amended), the CVR will be temporarily suspended 60 days to the commencement of the next General Elections scheduled for February 2019. “The exercise will resume after the conclusion of the elections. ”The Commission encourages all eligible Nigerians to register at our offices in all local government headquarters and other officially designated areas across the country between 9am and 3pm, Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays,” he said.
