PoliticsOrder Probe Of ‘n17bn Election Expenses’ Bribe To NASS Members – SERAP Tells Buh by 2Ebisco(op): 10:56am On Jun 03, 2018
Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, (SERAP) has sent an open letter to President Muhammadu Buhari urging him to direct the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami, SAN, or the appropriate anti-corruption agencies to investigate the alleged payment of N17 billion to the National Assembly as ‘election expenses’ of its members to pass the 20ute legal proceedings to compel President Buhari’s government to act in the public interest if these steps are not taken within 14 days of the publication of its open letter.

In the letter dated 1 June 2018 and signed by SERAP deputy director Timothy Adewale the organization said, “The allegation of budgeting N17 billion as election expenses of lawmakers suggests a fundamental breach of article 15 of the UN Convention against Corruption, which Nigeria has ratified. Using public funds as election expenses of lawmakers is contrary to the convention, which prohibits bribery and requires the authorities to ensure proper management of public affairs and public funds.

“The illicit or improper nature of the election expenses is buttressed by the fact that the election of any lawmaker is a ‘benefit’ to him/her and not a matter of public interest or legitimate public spending, and implicitly amount to an abuse of legislative powers for private gain.

“Allowing lawmakers to enjoy illicit benefits is an arbitrary or unjust exercise of executive functions. Facilitating N17 billion as election expenses has undercut access of millions of Nigerians to public services, as the funds could have been legitimately spent on services such as health, education, electricity supply or public transportatilectricity supply or public transportation that those with few resources are dependent upon.

“The required elements of the offence of bribery are those of promising, offering or giving something to a public official, such as the alleged N17 billion for election expenses of lawmakers. The allegation that the members of the executive allowed the National Assembly to have their way on the N17 billion also suggests giving the lawmakers an undue advantage to get the 2015 budget passed. The undue advantage or bribe also seemed linked to the official duties of lawmakers to induce the passing of the budget.

“SERAP notes that the alleged N17 billion bribe has increased attention to the growing lack of transparency and accountability of the National Assembly, and the corresponding loss of trust and faith by Nigerians in the budgeting process and disillusionment in their lawmakers.

“Investigating the allegation, identifying those suspected to be involved and ensuring that they are promptly brought to justice as well as ensuring recovery of any proceeds of corruption would help address the crisis of integrity in the National Assembly and contribute to improving public trust as well as promote access of Nigerians to an honest public service.

“The ultimate object of any government is to promote good governance and the greatest happiness of the greatest number. This means stopping arbitrariness in the budgeting process, and in the use of public funds as well as replacing privilege with transparency and accountability that characterize a democratic society.”

EducationATBU Students Stage Protest, Block University Gates As Water, Electricity Scarci by 2Ebisco(op): 1:17pm On Jun 01, 2018
Hundreds of students of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University ,Yelwa Campus, staged a massive protest in the early hour of Friday, blocking the two main gates of the institution and other roads.

This, according to the protesting students followed continuous scarcity of water and perpetual absence of electricity as well as alleged exams malpractices by lecturers of the institution.

Adamu Mohammed, leader of the students told DAILY POST that water scarcity and lack of electricity were major hurdles faced in the institution.

“We have been suffering from acute scarcity of water and light to enable us read as we approach exams. However, lack of these social amenities affects those fasting at Ramadan, yet nothing has been done to address same by the school authority and that informed the protest,” said Mohammed

DAILY POST reports that the protest caused serious gridlock around Yelwa axis as shop owners hurriedly closed their shops for fear of eventuality.

Apart from that, staff of the university were denied access to the premises while secondary school students of the University were also left stranded.

When DAILY POST contacted Mr. Zailani Bappa, the university spokesman, he confirmed that there has been water and electrical problems recently in the institution.

He said those challenges were caused by the explosion of the main transformer supplying electricity to the students.

Bappa assured that already, the management had procured a brand new transformer which was on the way, after which it will be installed in few a days.

On exams malpractices as alleged by the students, Bappa urged them to always contact various committees in appropriate places to channel their grievances instead of using campaign of calumny to divert public attention.

“The university has put in place various committees to received complaints from students where there is problem as a palliative measure to facilitate learning,” said Bappa.

PoliticsEkiti Guber: PDP Berates APC Over ‘blackmail Of Heads Of FG Agencies’ by 2Ebisco(op): 10:19pm On May 30, 2018
The campaign organization of the Ekiti State Deputy Governor and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Prof Kolapo Olusola has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of persistent blackmail of heads of federal agencies.

It described it as a sign that “the party is already smelling defeat in the July 14 election and now desperately lying against credible Nigerians, who may have refused to be
compromised.”

The group, which reacted to the APC’s allegation of “mutual liaisons in night meetings” between Governor Ayodele Fayose and the Ekiti State Coordinator of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs Nwanu Eze Ukagha, said “If they like, they can engineer the transfer all heads of federal agencies here in Ekiti, they can’t transfer the people of Ekiti that will vote against them on July 14.”

In a statement issued on Wednesday, by its Director of Media and Publicity, Lere Olayinka, the campaign organization said it was the height of wickedness and hatred for Nigerians working as heads of federal agencies in Ekiti State to be placed at the receiving ends of the APC bitter politics at all times.

Olayinka said; “They have written petitions against almost everyone working in federal agencies in Ekiti State. The federal radio, police, DSS, NTA, Civil Defense, NYSC have not been spared by the APC desperadoes who are always willing to compromise the integrity of everyone and the moment you refused to be compromised, they raise petitions against you.

“It is on record that seeing the deplorable condition of the NYSC orientation camp at Ise-Emure when he visited the camp in February 2017, he openly promised the release of N20 million naira for the renovation of the camp. Kia Cerato car for your state coordinator. The governor also donated a Kia Cerato to be used as official car by any NYSC Director posted to the State.

“Apart from official donations to the NYSC, the Director never derived any personal benefit from Governor Fayose.

“We are however not unmindful of the possibility that in their usual characteristic, the APC must have tried to induce the NYSC Director with money to do their biddings and the woman refused, thus prompting the blackmail.

“Therefore, it is our advice that the APC should go beyond writing petitions to call for the transfer of heads of federal agencies in Ekiti. They can go ahead and engineer the transfer of offices and buildings of the agencies, that won’t prevent the APC from being defeated.

“Most importantly, the APC can transfer all the over 10,000 youth corps members in Ekiti State and bring new ones from anywhere or wherever, as long as the people of Ekiti, who are the ones that will vote on July 14 are not transferred, APC’s failure remains certain.

“They can even bring President Muhammadu Buhari to head all the federal agencies put together, that won’t prevent the APC from suffering another 16 – 0 defeat.”

CelebritiesBoxer Killed Lady He Met Online For Lying To Him About Being A Virgin by 2Ebisco(op): 8:58am On May 29, 2018
A boxer who killed himself is accused of murdering his girlfriend for allegedly lying about her virginity. Police investigating the deaths believed Gari Chu killed Yee-Min Huang after the pair met on Tinder. Detectives reportedly also suspected the 27-year-old woman had been cheating on him with other men.
Chilling CCTV footage captured Yee-min's final movements as she followed the suspect Chu, 28, up the stairwell to his flat.
Chu, an amateur MMA fighter and boxing trainer living in New Taipei city's Banqiao District in North Taiwan, was found hanged a few days later.
Police also discovered a suicide note with the word: "she wronged me".
The first indication of a problem was on May 26 when the victim's brother, Francis Huang, appealed to members of the public for help searching for his missing sister, who he said had been out of contact since May 19.
He suspected she was being held against her will by her Tinder boyfriend Chu.
Later the same day, Chu claimed in a Facebook post that he had "never once hurt her or restricted her freedom", suggesting it was Yee-min who kept coming back to him when he tried to break up with her.
In the post, Chu also revealed possible motives for the killing, writing: "After we met on Tinder, she lied to me saying she was a virgin", I felt deceived and betrayed when I found out she had been lying and also cheating on me with other men.
Yee-min's brother contacted the police, who searched Chu's home in Banqiao District and found it empty.
His relatives also claimed they had not been in contact with him several days.
The authorities then inspected surveillance camera as in the residential complex, which revealed the last images of Yee-min on May 20.
On May 27, the authorities announced they had unearthed the victim's scattered remains from the flower bed, while Chu's body was found hanged at 5am the next day near the ministry if Health and welfare Hospital in Xinzhuang District.
Since news of the shocking case made headlines in Taiwan, a woman claiming to be Chu's ex-wife, has also made public pictures of her injuries, claiming her former husband had been abusive and also locked her up.
Further investigations are under way.

PoliticsAPC Says Implementing Change Most Difficult Thing by 2Ebisco(op): 4:27pm On May 28, 2018
The All Progressives Congress (APC) said Federal Government was doing the best possible to effect change in the polity, but admitted it had been the most difficult assignment to tackle.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Malam Bolaji Abudullahi, stated this in a statement on Sunday in Abuja.

He said that sometimes, change became necessary or inevitable as Nigeria found in 2015 because of the misrule of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP).

Abdullahi urged Nigerians to remain steadfast in the collective task of achieving “the Nigeria of our dream”, adding that with prayers and support for APC-led Federal Government, the country would be propelled to growth in all facets.

He said that the APC was increasingly baffled by PDP’s “new found proclivity for constantly spewing falsehood in the name of opposition rhetoric and politics”.

Abdullahi recalled that a recent statement by PDP spokesperson had accused the APC of corruption, sectionalism and opposition clampdown, among other things, in the lead-up to 2019 elections.

“While it is a widely known fact that suppressing the opposition was the stock in trade of the PDP during its defunct 16 year rule, the APC has definitely not inherited this undemocratic practice in its governance style,” he said.

He said this was both in its internal politics and the country’s administration, under President Muhammadu Buhari.

According to him, the PDP while in government, illegally and routinely used state apparatus to harass opposition figures.

He said that such could be seen in the attack on APC data centre in Lagos, blockade of the air and road routes to prevent movement of then opposition leaders in the lead-up to the 2015 elections among other clampdowns.

He added that it was unfortunate that the PDP was quick to forget the divisive, insensitive and sectional politics it played during the 2015 electioneering campaign.

“The PDP without an iota of proof, rather spewing laughable conspiracies, accuses the APC-led administration of barefaced looting.

“Elections are around the corner and Nigerians are not gullible.

“They see through the PDP’s diversionary antics aimed at deflecting attention from the wanton culture of impunity and corruption it instituted when it held sway,” Abudullahi said.

He noted that the PDP administration could not operate the now-implemented Treasury Single Account (TSA) which had greatly plugged government revenue leakages.

He added that Nigerians generally agreed that the era of impunity was beginning to disappear from national life.

The party spokesman said that there was also a gradual acceptance of the best practice and time-honoured values of honesty, hardwork, patriotism, abhorrence of corruption, accountability and integrity in everyday life.

He said that Nigerians were wiser now “with sharp memories”.

PoliticsWhy South-east Is Buhari’s Shoreline In 2019 – VON DG, Osita Okechukwu by 2Ebisco(op): 8:28am On May 28, 2018
Ahead of the 2019 general elections, the Director General of Voice of Nigeria (VON) and chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Osita Okechukwu has described the South-East as the shoreline of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Okechukwu is optimistic that the APC would garner much votes from the zone in the 2019 presidential elections.

According to him, President Buhari and by extension, APC would get more than one million votes in the South-East, to balance whichever tendency they would miss in the North and the South West in the 2019 electoral vote distributive curve.

The VON DG gave this assurance on Saturday in an interaction with journalists at his hometown, Eke, Udi local government area of Enugu State during the flag-off of the town’s annual ‘Igwa Nshi’ cultural festival.

He spoke against the backdrop of the parallel APC congresses held in different states and the threat posed by the nPDP group in the ruling party.

Asked how the APC and by extension President Muhammadu will survive the parallel congresses across the country, and the threat of the nPDP, Mr. Okechukwu assured that the “South East is the shoreline of Mr President and by extension the APC.”

“My happiness is that the South East come 2019 will be the shoreline of our dear president and by extension our great party, the APC. Buhari will get more than a million votes in the South East. The so called parallel congress members under close scrutiny are not truly APC people.

“To be exact, the mainstream APC in the South East will balance whichever tendency we miss in the North and South West in the electoral vote distributive curve of 2019 presidential election. Be it the nPDP or ADC.”

“We got less than 200,000 in the South East in 2015, but with rapid infrastructural development going on in the South East, we will leverage for Ndigbo are not ingrates. We will cover the missing gap envisaged from the South West and nPDP in the North.”

“Don’t forget that those who enlarged the APC South East mainstream today were loyalists of His Excellency, Owelle Rochas Okorocha. Today they are in league with President Buhari, they are passionate to re-elect him. Am excited with the rate their campaign for Mr. President is going and the response of the electorate,” Okechukwu said.

Asked why he is in the East most of the time, Okechukwu said: “Yes, I have acquired modern ICT platform, new office and concluding arrangement for staff housing and solar energy for Voice of Nigeria; now am in the East to revive the indelible legacy of North-East alliance bequeathed to us by the great Zik of Africa. Zik was Nigeria’s persona dictum and unparalleled nationalist. He built the North-East alliance and as his acolytes we are consolidating it as Pan-Nigerians.”

On how Buhari would garner over a million votes with the crisis here and there and in their party, APC, Okechukwu described ‘Buhari’s Roads, Rails, Agriculture and Power (RRAP) Projects’ as “the development resurgimento, which would reinforce the private sector and attract more Foreign Direct Investment.”

According to him, “when you have 5,000 kilometers of federal roads, 5,000 kilometers standard gauge rail lines and 5,000 additional megawatts and self sufficiency in food production in the next five years, there would be peace, progress and prosperity.”

PoliticsFG Carries Over N538bn Unspent 2017 Capital Vote To 2018 Budget by 2Ebisco(op): 6:55am On May 27, 2018
Achieves 73.5% implementation Revenue shortfall, late passage of budget adversely impacted execution, says Budget DG

Kunle Aderinokun

With barely a week to the end of the lifespan of the 2017 budget, the federal government has achieved an unprecedented 73.5 per cent implementation of the appropriation, deciding to carry over the remaining 26.5 per cent to the 2018 fiscal year. The 2018 appropriation bill was transmitted to President Muhammadu Buhari last Friday night for assent. A document obtained by THISDAY from a reliable presidency source showed that out of the N2.029 trillion allocated to capital projects (exclusive of FGN special intervention projects) in the 2017 Appropriation Act, N1.491 trillion had been released to Ministries, Departments and Agencies as at May 21, 2018, representing 73.522 per cent implementation.

The unspent N538 billion, the source said, would be carried over to 2018 fiscal year, which is expected to start on June 5 or the date the president assents to the appropriation bill.

The National Assembly had in May 2017 passed the N7.44 trillion appropriation bill, which comprised N2.987 trillion recurrent (non-debt) expenditure and N2.177 trillion capital expenditure. The N2.177 trillion capital vote was inclusive of N150 billion for FGN Special Intervention Programme.

The document containing the details of the capital releases , prepared by the Federal Ministry of Finance, showed that power, works and housing ministry, which was allocated N650.074 billion, being the chunk of the total capital budget, had received N506.935 billion, representing 77.981 per cent for its projects. Transportation took N125.974 billion (52.118 per cent) out of N241.709 billion for projects, while agriculture and water resources got a release of N129.664 billion (62.309 per cent) out of N208.099 billion earmarked for projects in the ministries.

Furthermore, the federal government stated in the document that it released N149.798 billion out of the budgeted N271.089 billion to defence and security for capital projects, representing 55.258 per cent. Besides, N81.456 billion was released for projects in health and education ministries, which represents 72.235 per cent of N112.766 billion allocated in the budget.

Justice and social capital projects got N26.060 billion (59.444 per cent) out of N43.839 billion earmarked in the Appropriation Act, while N130.568 billion (95.594 per cent) out of N136.585 billion was released for administration projects.

Others got N31.782 billion (58.305 per cent) out of N54.765 billion, while N309.490 billion (99.824 per cent) out of N310.037 billion was released for capital supplementation.

The Budget Office of the Federation noted in its Draft Budget Implementation Report for the third quarter of 2017, “Greater portion of government’s available budgetary resources were directed to structural reform of the economy and the provision of critical infrastructure in the roads, power, housing, rail and aviation sectors as well as the provision of physical and food security.

“In view of this, a total of N2,174.50 billion was allocated to capital spending in the 2017 budget. MDAs’ Capital Vote Utilisation: the late passage of the 2017 Appropriation Bill, the extension of the implementation of the 2016 capital budget to 5th May, 2017, the shortfall in expected revenue as well as the increasing non-discretionary expenditures of government affected the implementation of capital projects for 2017 budget in the third quarter of the year.”

Essentially, the report stated that data from the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation on 2017 Capital Performance for MDAs as at September 30, 2017, showed that only N377.02 billion was released and cash backed to MDAs for their 2017 capital projects and programmes.

The budget implementation report for the second quarter of 2017 also showed that a total of N96.35 billion was released for capital expenditure in the second quarter of 2017 under the 2016 budget. Cumulatively, it added, N59. 45 billion capital expenditure was expended under the 2016 budget during the first half of 2017.

“Funds were, however, not released for capital projects/programmes under the 2017 budget. This was due to the extension of 2016 capital budget implementation to 5th May, 2017, the late passage of the 2017 budget as well as the need for MDAs to finalise their procurement processes,” the budget office explained in the report.

In the preface to the report, Director-General, Budget Office of the Federation, Mr. Ben Akabueze, noted, “Despite the socio-economic challenges that continued to face the Nigerian economy, government was able to deliver N370.13 billion capital budget expenditure in the third quarter of 2017.”

This, he pointed out, “significantly contributed to the positive GDP growths witnessed in the second and third quarters of the year after a spell of five consecutive negative growths. The sustenance and consolidation of these reform initiatives are, therefore, the driving force of the 2017 budget implementation.”

Akabueze added, “The execution of the 2017 budget in the third quarter of the year was very challenging in numerous fronts, mainly due to the extension of the 2016 capital budget to 5th May, 2017, effectively halting the execution of the 2017 capital budget until the tail-end of the second quarter of the fiscal year.

“The execution of the 2017 budget was also adversely impacted by the late passage of the budget as well as the shortfall in expected oil and non-oil revenue receipts. However, the government had continued to meet its non-discretional expenditures.”

PoliticsIPOB: No Going Back On May 30th Sit-at-home by 2Ebisco(op): 7:16am On May 26, 2018
The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB has said it was not backing down on its proposed sit-at-home protest slated for 30th May 2019.

The group said the protest would start on the evening of 29th May, and that no human or vehicle was expected to be seen anywhere in the entire south East Nigeria and some other towns that had been marked out for a lockdown.

A release by the media and publicity secretary of the group, Emma Powerful said anyone or vehicle seen on the road would be marked as enemy, and would be treated so.

Part of the release read; “May 30th sit-at-home order is sacrosanct and shall be observed annually until the end of time. 30th of May 2018 will witness a total lock-down of South East, South South and selected states and cities across Nigeria.

“A two minute silence will be observed at 12 noon on the 30th to ponder and reflect upon the courage and patriotism of the brave men, and women that willingly sacrificed their lives to preserve what is left of our race today.

“We must remember, reflect and ponder over the pain and suffering of over 1 million innocent Biafran children deliberately starved to death by the Nigerian government as a result of an evil policy to wipe out an entire race of people from the face of the earth.”

He said not only will heroes and heroines of Biafra of the class of 1967 to 1970 be honored in the finest traditions of IPOB, but other victims of sectarian violence, Fulani terror herdsmen, Boko Haram and state sponsored extra judicial killings would also be remembered.

“We shall continue to remember our heroes the way every other single civilised society and world remembers their war heroes. It will take an extraordinarily high level of insensitivity, Not only will our heroes and heroines of the class of 67-70 be honored in the finest traditions of IPOB, other victims of sectarian violence, Fulani terror herdsmen, Boko Haram and state sponsored extra judicial killings will also be remembered.

“We owe it to our glorious dead to honour their bravery, heroics and sacrifice that ensured that South East and South South remain to this day an area untainted by Islamic dominance.

The only entity in West Africa to have such distinction. We cannot repay them enough for what they did for us. Therefore, we must honour them,” he concluded.

Then the argument started. This babe nor wan gree, she said she’s very sure it’s made of dog meat and if she mistakenly eat hotdog, boil will catch her in her armpit. And to make matters worse she didn’t keep her voice low. All eyes were on us and laughing as well.

This same babe is using an iPhone with a valid subscription which she was prolly using for Instagram and the likes.

Finally told her to go on google and do a search. At first she refused. Said she knows what she’s saying, later she did the search and still wasn’t convinced. Even before we left there, she stood her ground. Hotdog is made of dog meat.

Celebrities5 Things You Need To Know About Idowest, The New Artiste Signed By Davido by 2Ebisco(op): 7:47pm On May 24, 2018
The DMW family is getting bigger as rapper Idowest has been added to the label. He was just announced as the latest member to Davido‘s DMW record label.

Idowest was officially unveiled as the newest addition to the powerhouse platform, Davido Music Worldwide (DMW), by the label boss, Davido.

The rapper has been sighted in the company of Davido and other members of his label in recent times, but it wasn’t until last night when the O.B.O announced the deal via his Twitter handle.

This makes him the sixth addition to the ever growing family that houses Davido, Mayorkun, Dremo, Peruzzi and Yonda, with Ichaba remaining an affiliate.

With the group compilation album scheduled to be released next month, Idowest is expected to bring his street flavour to some of the joints.

Here are five things you need to know about DMW’s latest signing, Idowest:

1. His real name is Adekunle Idowu

Adekunle Idowu is more popularly known by his stage name Idowest (Twitter/Idowest)

The name Idowest was carved out of his original name Idowu, which is a Yoruba name for someone born after a set of twins. He represents the Lagos Island area of Lagos State.

2. Idowest refers to himself as the King of Shaku Shaku

The shaku shaku vibe is one hit that gained mainstream acceptance last year with acts like Idowest, Slimcase, Mr Real and even Skales laying claim to being progenitors of the wave.

But the rapper who has been on his grind for quite a while now, claims that he was introduced to shaku shaku from his secondary school days and has been making the type of sound since then.

In his words, ”I have been doing Shaku shaku before the vibe even came up, that’s why people call me Idowest, Aro Mafia aka the King of Shaku Shaku”.

3. Idowest has been signed to three labels in two years

Now it gets interesting when you discover that the artist has put pen to paper on three different record deals in less than two years.

On June 15, 2017, the young rapper signed with P4 Music, owned by a Mr Sodiq, but following his return from being cleared of all charges leveled against him in the US, Dammy Krane revived his label, Worldstar Inc and on December 15 2017, he announced his first signing in the person of Idowest.

Following the official announcement by Davido, Idowest has now gotten signed to three labels, perhaps as a pointer to the talent that he possess.

4. He was a former member of the M.A.F.I.A gang

Idowest along members of the Mafia gang, C Black and Abram Soul in Panda cover video (YouTube/Idowest)

Earlier in 2017, Idowest used to be a member of the three man group called M.A.F.I.A gang.

Other members of the group include, C Black and Abram Soul and they released singles like Panda (Cover) and Umbele.

5. Idowest was nominated at the 2018 Headies

Idowest has grown his art steadily over the past couple of years, from getting attention with his single Eko alongside former HKN member Danagog to his ground-breaking single, Omo Shepeteri which featured Dammy Krane and Slimcase released late last year.

The song earned Idowest a nomination in the Best Street Hop artist category at the Headies 2018 music awards which was won by Small Doctor.

Meanwile, Bells University graduate, BamBam of the Big Brother Naija fame is no doubt one of the classiest females who took part in the reality show which lasted for 85 days in South Africa.

Talk about beauty, exposure, class, talent fashion sense, intelligence, business sense and other qualities that could make a woman great; BamBam has them all in abundance.

This must be one of the reasons why a social media influencer and Lagos socialite, Noble Igwe described her and Cynthia ‘Cee-C’ Nwadiora as one of the classiest of the 20 ex housemates although he was severely bashed for that on Twitter.

PoliticsAmaechi’s Ally, Ojukaye Flag Amachree Emerges New Rivers APC Chairman by 2Ebisco(op): 11:15am On May 21, 2018
A former Chairman of Asari-Toru local government area, Ojukaye Flag-Amachree, has emerged the new State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State.

The emergence of Ojukaye as the new Rivers State Chairman of APC came by way of affirmation from the party delegates in a State congress that began as early as 5am, Monday.

DAILY POST reports that the APC decided to conduct the State Congress early Monday morning following feelers that the Senator Magnus Abe group of the party may further cause a glitch to the congress using the court in the State.

However, the decision to make Ojukaye the Chairman came after last-minute strategic meeting, presided over by Nigeria’s Transportation Minister, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, who is the leader of APC in South South region, and his think-tank.

Ojukaye, who is a well-respected grassroots mobiliser and strong ally of Amaechi, takes over from Chief Davies Ibiamu-Ikanya who is expected to be part of the National Working Committee of the APC.

Chief Emeka Bekee was returned as the Secretary of the party while Chris Finebone was also retained as the State Publicity Secretary of the APC in Rivers state.

PoliticsPresidency: Buhari Is Bad Business For Corrupt Politicians, Public Servants by 2Ebisco(op): 7:48am On May 21, 2018
Presidency has described members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as well as other group of persons who oppose President Muhammadu Buhari’s government and yearning to ‘‘change the change,” as those who benefit directly or indirectly from corruption.

The Senior Special Assistant, Media and Publicity to the President, Mr. Garba Shehu, said this in an article obtained by THISDAY last night, added that Buhari represents bad business for corrupt politicians and public servant.

The presidential spokesman outlined the achievements of the president in the past three years, pointing out that as the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) prepares to celebrate the completion of three years of the Buhari’s administration on May 29, Nigerians need to be reminded of what he termed the reversal of the achievements of the administration would amount to for the country.

According to him, the real meaning and cost of the “changing the change,” is that if the opposition wins the next election, “they will not take us back to where we were in 2015, they will mostly reverse the progress the APC has brought to the country.”

He recalled that the main reason for the defeat of the PDP in 2015 was corruption, arguing that President Buhari has so far presented a corrupt-free image of himself.

“He has also succeeded in abolishing grand corruption at the top and as attested to by the American President, Donald Trump.

“The government has significantly brought down the level of corruption in the whole country. It has, however, warned over and again that corruption was fighting back.

“Many who are discerning would have read this from President Buhari’s speech when he inaugurated the impressive new headquarters building of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) a week ago.

“He narrated how and why he was overthrown as a military Head of State in the 80s,” he added.

Furthermore, he said the difference between the PDP and the current APC administration is that although the erstwhile ruling party mouthed a flood of rhetoric against corruption, “in fact rightfully lay the claim of founding the institutions now in the forefront of fighting corruption as a government, the EFCC and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), they had intended to keep them as toys, or bulldogs which teeth had been removed.

“No, they never intended that the war against corruption would be taken this far.

To change the change would mean that the teeth of the bulldog will be removed. It would then only bark but not bite.

“In this country, politics is often considered as synonym of corruption. The previous government came under huge criticism for scandals like those discovered in arms procurements in the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) which transformed itself into a major source of funding of the PDP; NNPC crude oil thefts, broadband spectrum licensing scandal, oil subsidy scam and so many others but the present government has not faced any such corruption allegations.

“Although he said he was unafraid and would not bend, the President’s concern, and fear on the part of many is that if a corrupt leader takes over, it will be happy days all over again for former Oil Minister Diezani Allison-Maduekwe who has so far forfeited $153 million, N23.4 billion, and $4 million and $5 million in separate accounts.

“Change the Change” would mean she will get the money back. So, would the former Managing Director of the maritime agency, (NIMASA) get back 578,080 pounds seized from him and the Ikoyi apartment owners have back their $43.4 million; N23 million and 27,800 pounds.”

Continuing, Shehu said: “The hidden owner of the Lagos cash shop may then step forward to reclaim their N449.6 million; the ex-naval chiefs will have returned to them the already forfeited N1.8 billion; the governors’’ forum paid back their N1.4 billion and the major oil marketers, from whom the EFCC has so far seized N328.9 billion will smile their ways to the bank.

“The banks themselves will equally join the party, happily getting back N27.7 billion they “ate” from taxes they failed to remit; the scion of the Akinjides, Jumoke will have N650 million awarded to her while those scammers in INEC who coughed out N1 billion will equally get money back and charges standing against them in court may be dropped.

“But the happiest of them all will be Mrs. Jonathan, who will get the first priority when the refunds start coming for obvious reasons. The former First Lady would not anymore need lawyers to keep her mountain of gifts, counted in huge millions of dollars, billions of naira, hotels and buildings.

He added: “The list of people who oppose the Buhari government and yearning to ‘‘change the change’’ include a number of parliamentarians, policemen, customs officials, immigration officials, civil servants now rooting for other political parties, not leaving out those various businesses and platforms owned by these political parties directly or indirectly.”

Furthermore, he said the president’s victory in 2015, and the possibility of four more years crumbled the dreams of endlessly looting the state, saying the growing list of achievements by the government was not doing any good for such persons.

“Change the change” means also that the biggest tax revolution since independence, the Voluntary Assets and Income Declaration Scheme (VAIDS) now being implemented, and about which many of our rich citizens are unhappy may be scrapped.

“Another formidable group unhappy with the change and wish it reversed are the importers of diesel and generators. “Nigeria ranks as the second biggest importer of generators all over the world.

Buhari is bad business for them because he has raised electric power availability from 2,600 MW in 2

PoliticsAPC Reacts To Parallel Congresses In Lagos, Oyo, Kwara, Others by 2Ebisco(op): 8:07am On May 20, 2018
Spokesman for the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bolaji Abdullahi, has said the party will not recognize any parallel state congress, organised by any factional group of the party in the country.

Abdullahi, stated this while addressing party faithful at the state congress held at the Banquet Hall in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital on Saturday.

He noted that the National Working Committee of the party, would only acknowledge the congresses conducted by the committees set up by the national leadership of the party.

While the election has been peaceful in some states, parallel exercises took place in states like Lagos, Kwara, Oyo, and Niger.

“I have only one message; you may have heard that some people are gathered somewhere, saying that they are organising another congress.

“I want to reaffirm that the only congress that is recognised by our party, is the congress organised by the committee that the party has sent; any other congress is an exercise in futility,” Abdullahi said.

Health‘why I’m Passionate About Human Psychology’ by 2Ebisco(op): 5:20am On May 18, 2018
Baba Tunde George Ojo Olubiyo is the Chief Executive/Founder, Sri Word of Inspirational and Transformational Entertainment. As a man of many parts, Olubiyo is passionate about helping young Nigerians realise their God-given potential, in order to be able to use their talents to better their personal lives as well as contribute positively to the betterment of the nation. He spoke on these and more in this interview with Mary Ekah

Tell us about career as a motivational speaker?

I don’t really see myself as a motivational speaker because calling myself a motivational speaker is like belittling myself. One may say it’s ego but no, it is really who I am. I am first a transformational coach, a transformational speaker and then an inspirational speaker. My perception is different from that of a motivational speaker. A motivational speaker wants to motivate you but beyond the motivational speaker is the inspirational speaker. An inspirational speaker wants to inspire you while a transformational speaker wants to transform you. And what we need today in this country is not just change but transformation. Transformation means that nothing of the past exist anymore; you become a new creation. Inspirational speakers inspire you and make you drop your old habits. Even mere seeing their lifestyles inspires you – you are left with no choice but to long to be like them. These are people you come across and you just want to check yourself whether you are doing the right thing. A transformational speaker wants to stay with you and make sure you change but a motivational speaker on the other hand does not have that time, he wants to just motivate you and go.

So far, what platforms have you exhibited your talent as a transformational speaker?

I have done countless of radio programmes. I am known in major radio stations in Ibadan, I have done some programmes with the national television, NTA Ibadan. I have done programmes in almost all the major radio stations in Nigeria including Abuja. I have travelled to other African countries where I held programmes. Over the years, I have sponsored and organised transformational programmes in majority of the radio and TV stations in Nigeria. I have also used my social media platforms to campaign against child abuse, rape, human trafficking, domestic violence, relationship and marriage, the importance of mental and emotional health in working environment, relationship, marriage and the need for re-modernising our education system in Nigeria. I have been to many schools to talk to students. I really think we have two problems in Nigeria and if we can fix those areas, the future will be bright but if we do not fix those areas, I guarantee you every other effort we are making will only end in disaster. One of these problems has to do with parenting – How we are raising our children. Number two is the educational system. The educational system right now is broke. The standard of education in Nigeria is nothing to write home about and the level of employment is poor because nobody wants to invest in something without some level of guarantee. The educational system does not give you money-back guarantee. What is the guarantee of a Nigerian graduate who have studied in school after five years that he/she would be successful. That is why I advise people that while you are going to school, make sure you are learning a skill and then use your educational qualification as a boost because when people see that you are educated, they respect you a lot. The educational system is not bringing out the best in the students and that is why a lot of graduate are unemployable. We really need to work on the educational system in Nigeria if we actually need a brighter future. But then it is very difficult for the school to handle a child that has been raised by negligent parents. Those are the children who become nuisance in the society. Parents should understand that they are images for their children, children don’t learn by instructions, they learn by imitations. I was raised by my mother and she had to go through several challenges to make sure she took care of me to grow up to become the person I am today. So being someone who has experienced all kinds of severe challenges and trauma, I understand what it is for a child to experience such and that is why I advocate for mental health.

How really was your childhood, which apparently has got so much influence on you today?

My childhood is something you can relate to. One, my dad was a young man whose dad probably wasn’t there for him. Probably my dad’s grandfather wasn’t there for his dad too. So the jinx continued that way, so when my own dad had me, he wasn’t able to relate like a father. So when I was growing up, I was always thinking he was a wicked man and so we became like enemies but when I grew up I started to understand his predicaments. That is why you really need to take time and look at someone’s background before you go into a relationship because if they were raised as victims, they become victims too.

Apart from being a transformational coach, what else do you do?

I am a businessman. I buy and sell. I run an e-commerce website and we sell a whole lot of things. You can say I am a good orator. I enjoy talking and I know how to convince people, so I decided to use that talent in business. I discovered that there were so many people who have wonderful products but they don’t have good communication skills and so they don’t know how to convince people and I decide to bridge that gap. So I started a social media platform with a website where we sell all kinds of goods and I have made a good amount of money from it.

You are apparently a man of many parts, where really lies your interest?

I have so many things I am interested in – business, politics, religion, psychology, philosophy but I really love psychology because psychology is very close to what I identify myself as. First and foremost, I want to know what makes people do and why they do them. And if you understand psychology, you can operate in any level. All these started when I was a very little boy. I wanted to know more about the human beings; what causes human beings to take the decisions they take; why some people are poor while others are rich; what makes some countries better than other countries, is it just resources or is about intelligence. I wanted to know all these things which led me to studying these things early in life. Fortunate enough, I grew up with people who are spiritually and philosophically inclined; people who were intellectually matured and experienced. That exposed me a lot to all kinds of knowledge, information, insight and understanding about things that my peers and contemporaries don’t even have information about. I really love Psychology because it is a scientific study of the behaviour and mental processes of animals and human beings. So a psychologist wants to assess measure, evaluate, control and predict. So I really see psychology as my main interest and psychology has given me that understanding to be able to work with everybody at any place.

That means you studied Psychology at school. Didn’t you?

Yes, I did professional Psychology, which is holistic because usually the Psychology we do at school; don’t usually give us enough information about the human mind. Psychology define the mind as an entity of its own but it does not really give you so much detail but holistic Psychology goes behold that. Holistic Psychology has to do with body, mind and soul. So studying Psychology at school gave me a different perspective of Psychology and because I had already had psychological background, people who are mentors and who are even PhD doctorates in various courses do not even understand the way I do. If a psychologist is talking to me now, I could know where he is stuck. I could know where his knowledge ends and from there I can carry on. So studying Psychology at the University of Ibadan wasn’t really a big deal because I had already had a holistic background and that is why I am different from all other psychologists. I don’t just use cognitive therapy but I use meditation, affirmation and my SDP, which means Self-development Programme, to help people come out of depression. I don’t just treat your depression or coach you, I transform you and also increase your awareness about yourself.

Now the only reason why we have problems in this world is because most of us don’t know who we are and what we are capable of doing. Our biggest problem is ignorance because if everybody knows who they are, what they are capable of doing and what they can achieve, we won’t have any problem. This ignorance has been translated in so many terminologies. So for me, Psychology is a big deal and it is something I will probably study all my life because there is no boundary, there is no limit when it comes to knowledge and then, its personal development aspect is such a very important part of human life.

If you look at the world today, people are always looking outside for solution. You see people travelling outside their countries to look for solutions to their problems but the solution to everything is inside of you. Everything comes from inside. So my kind of psychology is rare, my kind of coaching is rare and my kind of experience is rare.

In this part of the world we are no longer practical, we are becoming more theoretical and life is beyond just talks, it has to do with result. If I haven’t demonstrated by result, I don’t have any right to talk about anything. Psychology for me is wonderful and it was just two years ago that I decided to go get a degree at the University of Ibadan in Psychology otherwise; I have already had the background.

Would it be right to say that your practical involvement with people sharpened your psychological prowess?

One of my spiritual mentors was actually a psychologist and that also helped me lay the foundation. I also have the same story as the average Nigerian boy who comes from a broken home, so when I add up all these negative experiences, that are not good for mental health, all of those things actually motivated me to become a psychologist.

You said you started thinking outside box at a very tender age. Exactly at what age was that?

I started wondering about the human existence from the age of 13. One incident happened where a close pal of mine died and that was the first time in my life, I heard that someone was dead and I was like, how come? Do people really die? And I went on and on to ask so many questions. Again, I come from a very spiritual background and we practise the Eastern philosophy. My parents practise Hinduism and because of this, they laid foundation for me to know early enough the human makeup. So I had already known who I am. I know I am a spiritual being having physical experiences. I had already known my identity right from when I was a very little boy because of the kind of environment I grew. And the only way I could relate to the outside world was because I was somehow connected to psychology, otherwise if I speak where other people don’t understand these things, they would lose their minds. So for me to be able to relate with people around me, I had to study some form of psychology so that my social life would not be continuously affected.

At what point were you able to reconcile your belief with the various beliefs that other people around you had without it affecting your social life?

My belief actually affected my social life at first but I just realised one day that I was doing the right thing. We have all been raised in a certain way and we all are working according to what we have been told. We have all been programmed right from when we were babies to think and see things in a particular way. At a particular point, I asked myself if I really knew what I was doing. Those who understand and know what they are doing that decide how much money people pay to them. They write their own tickets in life.

What is your vision for Nigeria, Africa and the world?

I only have one goal and that is the goal I want to be remembered for and I think I am already achieving it. My one goal is to awaken people and make people think about themselves positively so that they can be convinced in themselves and be aware of the presence of God within them. When you become aware of the God in your life, there is nothing you cannot achieve.

PoliticsGovernors Accuse NNPC Of Failure To Remit Oil Royalties by 2Ebisco(op): 6:54am On May 17, 2018
Dismisses corporation’s claim of 60m litres consumption of petrol daily as falsehood
NEC orders closure of fuel stations close to borders

Omololu Ogunmade in Abuja

Governors under the aegis of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) last night accused the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) of failing to remit royalties as stipulated by the extant laws.

Making this accusation after a meeting of NGF with Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo in the State House, NGF chairman and Zamfara State Governor, Abdulaziz Yari, said whereas NNPC ought to remit 17-24 per cent of the value of each barrel of crude oil, it has always acted in violation of this provision.

According to him, NNPC is required by the Petroleum Act to pay royalties to Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) and remit the remaining amount to the Federation Account.
Yari, who said the governors also dismissed claims of consumption of 60 million litres of petrol per day, insisted that the claim was untenable.

He lamented that despite efforts by the federal government to eradicate the subsidy regime, it has resurfaced again, adding that DPR had been ordered to shut down any petrol station that is 10km from the nation’s borders.

“This is the second time we are meeting with NNPC in respect of remittances into the federation account. And, governors and the federal government are not satisfied with the way remittances are being made because there are so many questions raised on Nigeria, most especially on the 425,000 barrel domestic and 180,000 barrel component of Nigeria from the joint venture partners.

“We met last week the NNPC and we came and briefed our chairman of the National Economic Council. We raised three issues – one, the issue of royalties. Each and every barrel taken out of the country there is either 17 or 24 per cent of it as royalty and there is 17 or 20 per cent as tax.
“So, our main concern is that the DPR, said the NNPC is not remitting any payment of royalty, what they do is that they transmit direct from the NNPC to the federation account which is not allowed by the law.

“According to the law that established the DPR, section 196 of the Act, said all the royalty should be paid to DPR and then transmit to the federation account, which is not.

“So, we discussed today and we have sorted those ones out. The NNPC will not transmit to federation account with clear distinction that this amount is for royalty and X amount is for taxes, and X amount is profit from the sales. So, we achieved that.

“At the same time, NNPC is making payment on behalf of Nigeria on cash-call contribution and also the NNPC is making payment of cash call arrears of Nigeria’s contribution. But, our main concern is that in 2015, they said about $16.8 billion which was outstanding was not paid by the last administration and they negotiated it down to $5.1 billion according to them.

“What we said specifically is that they should bring to us how much they have paid from 2015 to date and what is outstanding. And we directed them to stop payment until the claims are proven and then we can give further directives. That too was achieved.

“On the issue of cost recovery otherwise called subsidy, the issue of subsidy resurfaced again after the efforts of Mr. President. Before now, oil was $40 per barrel and now it is about $78 a barrel.

“So, they are depending largely on importation. Therefore, the cost is higher than what they are selling at the filling station and they need more money. When there was no cost recovery, the NNPC clearly gave us the number of 33 and 35 million litres per day as the consumption of Nigeria. But now that with the new regime of cost recovery, NNPC is claiming daily consumption of 60 and 65 million liters per day which we rejected and said no.

“So, many of our international partners are saying that even if we are feeding Nigeria, Cameroon, Ghana and Niger, we cannot consume more than 35 million litres per day. So, we are wondering where the 60 million litres is coming from. So, we are trying to sort that one out, that one is not yet resolved.

“But, we are now taking a very hard decision, that because NNPC said the reason why they were lifting 60 million per day is because our borders are porous. So we have taken the decision that any filling station that is 10 kilometres on the border side should be closed by DPR. And, then we will do recertification according to the needs.

“Secondly, we have directed the Minister of Finance in collaboration with the DPR and the NNPC to our tracking devices on every truck in other to monitor where they are discharging the fuel.
“Because, we are suspicious of the number, we cannot confirm the difference from 30 million litres per day consumption to 60 and 65 million litres per day consumption. So, these are our decisions on the NNPC,” he said.

HealthStop Rejecting Gunshot Victims, Police Warn Hospitals by 2Ebisco(op): 4:19pm On May 16, 2018
The Lagos State Police Command has warned hospital authorities against the rejection of gunshot victims or the attitude of asking for police report before treatment.

A press statement signed by the command’s spokesman on Wednesday, SP Chike Oti, said the command had to repeat the warning, following a report that one hospital in Ikeja rejected a gunshot victim.

“A senior engineer, Mr Adebayo Akinwunmi, with one information and communications technology company, was shot and wounded by armed robbers in his house at Ofada-Mokoloki, Ogun.

“He was brought to Reddington Hospital, Ikeja for treatment only to be refused admission on the grounds that there was no police report.

“The command considers the action of the hospital as cruel; perhaps, an indication that the hospital management may be ignorant of the “Compulsory Treatment and Care of Victims of Gunshot Act, 2017.

“In the light of this development, the Command wishes to inform all medical practitioners in Lagos state, that the Act demands that every hospital in Nigeria, whether public or private;

“Shall accept or receive for immediate and adequate treatment with or without police clearance any person with a gunshot wounds.

According to him, the Act, however, requires the hospital treating such a patient to report the fact to the nearest police station within two hours of the commencement of treatment.

“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Mr Imohimi Edgal, has directed all Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers in the state to henceforth prosecute any medical practitioners, who reject gunshot victims for reasons of no police report.

“Medical doctors should note that the Act recommends a five-year-jail term for any person, hospital or authority, who stands by or omits to do his bit, which results in the unnecessary death of any person with bullet wounds,” the statement read. (NAN)
