Amid her bankruptcy proceedings, Jocelyn Wildenstein is being accused of losing $250,000 worth of jewelry. The Blast reports that Wildenstein, a k a Catwoman, and her boyfriend, Lloyd Klein, put a down payment of $62,000 on a five-piece emerald and diamond jewelry set at Regal Jewelry and Gift Shop in 2017. But a check allegedly bounced, according to the site, and now Wildenstein says she doesn’t know where the baubles are. The website writes, “Wildenstein’s lawyer said during a recent court hearing that the person who would know about the jewelry is Klein.” The matter of the missing gems came to light during hearings about Wildenstein’s Chapter 11 claim, which she filed in May. The one-time wife of late billionaire Alec Wildenstein claims that she now lives on just $900 a month in Social Security income. She said in court, “I often turn to friends and family in order to pay my ongoing expenses.” However, Wildenstein also owns three adjoining apartments in the Trump World Tower, worth some $11.75 million. Then again, she owes $4.6 million on the homes, which are in foreclosure. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/06/catwoman-accused-of-losing-250k-worth.html

There is confusion regarding the actual employers of the 300 street sweepers’ supervisors that were recently sacked in Lagos State, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports. Environmental Utility firm, Visionscape Sanitation Solutions Ltd (VSS) told NAN on Sunday in Lagos that the supervisors were employed for the Lagos State Government, under the Cleaner Lagos Initiative (CLI). Mr Adebola Shabi, the Special Adviser to the Governor on CLI said the government had nothing to do with the news making the rounds that it had sacked the 300 supervisors. Shabi said that the CLI contracted Standard Street Manpower Ltd. (SSML) on the employment of street sweepers. According to him, Cleaner Lagos is a government initiative, not a contractor, while Visionscape is the contractor, hence, government can decide it does not want Visionscape but Cleaner Lagos will remain. “Maybe it is Visionscape that sacked them, Cleaner Lagos has not sacked anybody. “SSML is a consultant to the state government on engagement of sweepers but we have told them that at the end of June, all sweepers should be handed over to the Ministry of Environment. “We don’t know any issue about the sack; I have been trying to get the information from Visionscape and they are directing me to their head office. “The sack has nothing to do with Cleaner Lagos because we did not employ and we did not sack. Lagos State does not believe in sacking people,’’ he said. The Head, Corporate Communications, VisionScape, Mrs Motunrayo Elias, told NAN that the company was not the only contractor under the CLI. Elias said that when the structure for waste management was put in place, government said it wanted street sweepers to clean the inner streets, among other arrangements. She said that the structure for street sweepers’ supervisors was also put in place, that was the arrangement between CLI, VSS and SSML, which was the company managing the street sweepers. Elias said that the supervisors were hired by SSML but were trained by VSS and worked with VSS Area Managers, to ensure the synergy of sweeping and packing the refuse. “Now, with the controversy about PSP operators wanting to go back to work, government said that the street sweepers should revert to them. “So if you have taken the street sweepers, what are you going to do with their supervisors? “When we had a meeting, the issue was brought up and government asked how much was the salary, that was where the problem started. “Government said it cannot afford the salary, which was between N80,000 to N120,000 but can only pay N25,000 per month. “So the company paid the supervisors their disengagement bonuses, with Visionscape paying them two months’ salaries, while government was trying to decide. “For fact, the supervisors were supposed to be transferred to the Ministry of Environment. It was a labour contract from the CLI,’’ she said. Elias said that the structure that was put in place for waste management in the state injected income to the economy, as people were better off. She said that it was essential to take the good with the bad, as nobody talked about the good that the whole system was doing when it was creating employment. NAN reports that the disengagement letters to the supervisors was signed by the Head, Human Resources and Administration, SSML, Oluwatoyin Ayoola. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/06/300-sacked-lagos-street-sweepers.html

Award winning gospel musician,Kirk Franklin has revealed his sister has been sentenced to 30 years in jail. According to him,he wonders what he could have done better to help her.In 2015, he spoke about his crack-addicted sister, saying “For over ten years, my younger sister was incarcerated in a facility here in Texas. She was in love with a young man who was [a] drug dealer. He introduced her to not only selling drugs, but using as well,” “When he was arrested for drug trafficking, she was arrested along with him.” Once being released, Franklin said, his sister fell right back into that destructive lifestyle. “She quickly started using again, becoming very reckless with her body, which turned into her using it as a means to pay for her habit.” He did not say why she was jailed again. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/06/kirk-franklin-reveals-his-sister-has.html

The Nigerian Army on Friday said soldiers would be on standby to forestall possible violence in Saturday’s council elections in Rivers. Col. Aminu Iliyasu, Spokesman of the Nigerian Army 6 Division, Port Harcourt, told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) soldiers would be deployed at strategic points several kilometres away from polling centres. He explained that the army was adopting that position because “we are not directly involved in the election and no soldier is going to be deployed for any election duty’’. According to Iliyasu, it is only the Police and Department of State Security that have the constitutional responsibility to provide security in the election. “However, we are always on alert whenever there is election. We will only be on standby at the periphery in case our services are needed,” he said. Iliyasu added that soldiers were banned from going into polling centres and escort polling materials to the centres. The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) will conduct the elections in the 23 local government areas of the state. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/06/rivers-lg-election-nigerian-army.html

In every relationship there is bound to be argument. Regardless of who is right or wrong there are some certain things that should not be altered during an argument. As much as possible try to be calm while arguing cause remember words altered can never be taken, back. So here is a list of things you should never ever say to your partner You are immature If you consider the person immature then why are you dating the person in the first place. This means you are telling you partner that he/she is childish. This is never to be altered at all. Insult/Curse This is just the height. Do not exchange words with your partner. No matter how provoked you are do not call your partner names. Words have a way of recurring in the subconscious overtime. I regret dating you This is similar to the time spent with you has been a waste. To regret means to wish that a thing had not happened. There are better ways to resolve your argument than insulting. Body Shame This act is not only bad, it is could lead to depression especially if the person is already insecure. So you have to be careful. Body shaming is simple terms is talking about someone’s body size, height with the intent to make the person feel bad. For instance- You are so fat! You are irresponsible By telling your partner that he/she is irresponsible you simply are saying he/she lacks a sense of responsibility. Some people even go as far as comparing their partner to others. At a point the argument will drift from the initial cause of the argument to the five things listed above. The result is that both parties are fuelled by the insults as well as other negative things that are said and this could lead to emotional, psychological and even physical abuse. So rather than altering these statements it is advisable to settle your issues as amicably as possible. The way you deal with your partner when issues arise goes a long way to tell how you truly feel about the person. If you have been guilty of any of these then it is time to change. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/06/things-you-should-never-say-to-your.html

I sold different types of fruits and not even only fruit; I sold peppers, tomatoes, I sold groundnuts. Sometimes, they call me ‘omo elepa’. That is groundnut boy. “And then sometimes, when I finish selling, I go to do a quick one for myself. I go for wiping glass of cars, cleaning and If I see I’m not making money, I can quickly go to buy pure water and start selling there. Asides the selling of foodstuffs Ndidi did other jobs while hawking in traffic and revealed that it was to purchase a new pair of boots. He said, “My best, I would say was making N3000. I finished selling so quick. I went to do the wiping thing for myself, just four different things I did in a day. “I was so happy going home because I was saving to buy my football shoes.” Ndidi has come along way since his formative years and is regarded as one of the best defensive midfielders in the World Cup, and will be expected to play a key role for the Super Eagles at the 2018 FIFA World Cup. “I was really doing so many things but it was okay,” http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/06/i-used-to-hawk-grondnut-and-wash.html

Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami on Wednesday announced the approval of N500 million for lawyers who represented the Federal Government during the N330billion fine negotiation involving MTN. Malami spoke after the Federal Executive Council meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. He said: “FEC approved the payment of professional fees to lawyers engaged by Federal Government relating to the MTN case instituted against the Federal Government in pursuance of penalty of over N1 trillion imposed by the government on MTN. “MTN as you will recall, instituted a case seeking to restrain the federal government from recovering the over N1 trillion imposed on it. “The federal government engaged the services of lawyers to put up defence, the case was eventually settled by the parties amicably and arising from that settlement, the lawyers were entitled to their fees.” He said the amount approved for payment is less than one percent of the fee instead of the internationally recognised fee which is pegged at five per cent. The AGF also revealed that the country was expecting return of more loot. “Nigeria has engaged other countries, including the UK, US, France and others, in further negotiations relating to repatriation and I am happy to report that we are almost concluding the processes relating to the repatriation of additional $500 million,” Malami said. “You will recall that in December 2017, the federal government participated in a global forum on asset recovery in Washington DC during which Nigeria and Switzerland signed an agreement that paved the way for the repatriation of $322 million. “What transpired was only reported back to the council today. The report today was not only about the signing of the agreement but the report of the eventual repatriation of the amount of money that was signed and agreed to be repatriated during the forum,” he added. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/06/mtn-fg-lawyers-to-get-n500m.html

From the look of things, Michael Collins Ajere aka Don Jazzy the Mavin boss will have to continue his search as far as a future partner is concerned. Don Jazzy in his usual style had posted a photo of himself locked in a passionate embrace with Riri…(ok, a photoshop version), and his mother who now monitors him on Instagram was quick to comment : “I don’t want this one” she wrote, rejecting Don Jazzy’s choice of love! Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode has reacted to President Muhammadu Buhari’s apology to the family of presumed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola. Fani-Kayode, in a series of tweets on Tuesday, also called on Buhari to apologize for the Civil War. “‘On behalf of FG of Nigeria,I tender an unreserved apology for the injustice done to democracy on June 12 1993. Nigerians will no longer tolerate the perversion of justice witnessed in the annulment of the freest election in our history’- @MBuhari. “For this I commend @MBuhari. “If anyone had told me that @MBuhari would apologise for June 12th and express regrets about those killed during that struggle I would have doubted their sanity. Wonders never cease! “He should also apologise for the genocide that was unleashed on the Igbo before, during and after the civil war, the ethnic cleansing and mass murder that the people of the Middle Belt have been subjected to by jihadists over the last 100 years and the butchery, carnage, destruction and pillaging that the people of the Niger Delta have suffered since Independence,” he wrote. The member representing Lere/Bula constituency in the Bauchi state House of Assembly, Muhammad Aminu Tukur, has reacted to the declaration by the All Progressives Congress (APC) against Speaker House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara. On Saturday, the APC endorsed the candidature of Mr Godfrey Mannaseh to replace Dogara as member representing Dass, Tafawa Balewa and Bogoro constituency ahead of the 2019 election. The party also disclosed that it had passed a vote of no confidence on the Speaker. Those who made the declaration were Haruna Rikaya, APC chairman in Bogoro; Mallam Zubairu, his counterpart in Dass and Wakili Amadi, the party’s deputy chairman in Tafawa Balewa local government area. The party chieftains explained that their decision was to defend democracy, President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Mohammed Abubakar. They accused Dogara of being a part of a plot to impeach the nation’s leader. Reacting, Tukur, in the company of an APC governorship aspirant, Captain Mohammed Bala Jibrin, said the move to tarnish the Dogara’s image was being sponsored by some desperate politicians in the state for political gains. He said: “It came to our knowledge that an unknown, clandestine group, suspected to be hired by a failing politician in Bauchi State is all out to discredit the honour and integrity of the Speaker for no reasons other than pecuniary, self-serving and parochial. “APC chairmen in Dass, Tafawa Balewa and Bogoro are parading themselves illegally even when the party’s national chairman is served with court process linking to APC congress.” According to the lawmaker, Dogara served as the returning agent for President Buhari at the APC presidential convention in 2014, and will not do anything to undermine the Buhari-led APC administration. He advised members of the public to ignore the position of the party men, adding that there is no cause for alarm. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/06/lawmaker-speaks-on-apcs-decision-to.html

A prominent politician from Uganda’s ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, Ibrahim Abiriga, has been shot dead along with his bodyguard. Abiriga, known for wearing all-yellow suits and driving around in a yellow VW Beetle, was “assassinated this evening near his home in Kawanda,” north of the capital, Kampala, by “unknown assailants,” police chief, Okoth Ochola confirmed the incident. The 62-year-old was Member of Parliament (MP) for the Arua municipality in the north west of the country. He was a also a key supporter of a reform bill adopted last December, to scrap the presidential age limit of 75 years. The move was seen as a bid to pave way for Museveni who has been president since 1986 and currently 73, to seek a sixth term in power. Museveni responded to the news of Abiriga’s murder on Twitter, saying: “I have received news about the senseless killing of Arua Municipality MP, Hon Ibrahim Abiriga, and his bodyguard on the city’s outskirts. “I have tasked security agencies to expeditiously find these killers and the nation will be updated soon. May Hon Abiriga’s soul rest in peace.” http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/06/lawmaker-bodyguard-shot-dead-by-unknown.html

They are in custody, say police Saraki: It’s a move to embarrass me Olawale Olaleye in Lagos and Senator Iroegbu in Abuja As the nation awaits the outcome of police investigation into the April 5, 2018 Offa, Kwara State armed robbery attack in which 33 persons were killed, there were concerns at the weekend over the whereabouts of the gang leaders, Innocent Adikwu, a former police officer, and Kayode Opadokun, a son of an Afenifere chieftain, who were arrested along with 20 of their members, but have not been paraded by the police since their detention. The police had penultimate week, paraded some of the suspects, one of who claimed that they were political thugs of Senate President Bukola Saraki and Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State, making the police to summon the Senate president to report to its investigators at its Guzape, Abuja office for interrogation. Saraki, who promptly denied the allegation, had taken to his Twitter handle to announce that the police had withdrawn their summons and requested him to make a written submission on the suspects’ claim. Last Thursday, the Senate president said he had sent his written response to the police but gave no details of its content. But an impeccable THISDAY source said Saraki firmly denied any links with the suspects, contending that the entire saga was contrived by the police leadership to embarrass him. His rebuttal and contention that the police leadership might have contrived the ongoing drama received some credence at the weekend as speculations became rife that the two ring leaders might have gone missing. Ayoade Akinnibosun, one of the suspects paraded by the Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood, had told journalists that Adikwu was their leader who used his police connection to secure the arms and ammunition they used in the robbery operation, raising queries on why the police have yet to parade him. Although Moshood told THISDAY last night that the suspected ring leaders were in police custody and helping with the investigation, there were still questions on why they were being kept incommunicado. He said in a text message, “They are alive, helping the police further in the investigation of the bank robbery, including the recovery of 21 AK 47 riffles carted away by their gang during the attack on the Offa Police Divisional Headquarters.” Moshood challenged anyone that said the two suspects had been killed extra-judicially should produce their bodies. “Police don’t kill people, they protect people,” he said. According to a THISDAY source, however, there might be more to the absence of the ring leaders than meets the eye as intelligence report say that former police officer Adikwu might have been set up to entrap known thugs that are associated with Saraki, Abdulfatah and the APC in Kwara State. The source queried the refusal of the police to release to the public the statements of the ring leaders, arguing that the selective publication of the statements of the other suspects, who implicated Saraki, might have been intended to prejudice the mind of the public against the Senate president. “The public ought to be given the benefit of the statements of all the suspects so that they could make up their mind on the culpability of all those mentioned in connection with the heist,” the source said. THISDAY, however, gathered at the weekend that President Muhammadu Buhari has told the Inspector General of Police, Idris Hassan, that while he (Buhari) would not interfere with his job, he would, however, not tolerate any shoddy investigation that could undermine the integrity of the institution of the National Assembly. The president, according to the source, has cautioned the police boss and asked him to handle the ongoing investigation with utmost care. It was with the assurance of the presidential directive for careful and fair investigation, THISDAY gathered, that gave Saraki the confidence to make a written response to the police on Thursday. The police confirmed to THISDAY last night that Saraki’s written response to the allegations against him had been received by the investigators. “I was told by the investigators that he has made a written response to the allegations by the suspects,” the Force Public Relations Officers, Jimoh Moshood, said in a telephone conversation with our correspondent, insisting he could not say more in order not to jeopardise ongoing investigation into the case. But a presidency source privy to the investigation also confirmed the response of the Senate president, saying Saraki emphatically denied any relationship with the suspects and contended that his linkage to the alleged criminals was a ploy by the police to embarrass him. In his response since sent to the police, according to the THISDAY source, Saraki stated that he knew nothing about the whole drama and that from his reading of whole saga, it was all concocted to embarrass him as well as reduce the institution of the Senate. Some of police sources that were privy to the written response also hinted that the Senate president reminded the IG that he was the first to visit the state to commiserate with both the people and the police, and had spoken to the IG right from the palace of Olofa of Offa, where they both agreed on the need to improve the security of the state. Noting that he had never had any form of contact with the criminals aside the name-dropping that had been trending, Saraki was said to have also reminded the police IG in his response that when he spoke to him on the robbery, he even went ahead to list some of the demands of the people in the area on how to improve their security in the area, in addition to donating the sum of N10,000,000 (ten million naira) as the first response to whatever they needed at the time. He, therefore, considered as unfair, any attempt to link him with the criminals, because there could not have been any meeting point between him and the criminals. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/06/concerns-mount-over-missing-offa-bank.html

The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Most Revd Matthew Hassan Kukah has said that the desperation by politicians for public office is the reason they are turning the country into a killing field ahead of the 2019 polls. Speaking with Daily Sun, the outspoken cleric lamented that politics had become a killing game in Nigeria. According to him, “Politicians in Africa want power at all cost and they will go over oceans of blood and corpses to place ballot boxes to steal votes. Dead people have had appointments in Nigeria. “This is a strange country and unless we get to a point where human life is at the centre and defines everything, every blood can only serve as sacrificial offering for the ambitions of those who want power at all cost. But as I have said and I repeat, who knows who will be here in 2019? “Ask those into whose hands our safety lies. The Church has no army or any security agencies. The only way we can defend life is to do what we did in Benue, generate enough sense of moral revulsion, especially given that those who govern us seem to have other interests. It is a tragic cancer of African leadership, this criminal lack of care for human beings whom the politicians promise to protect. “If they cannot make comfortable as they themselves are, they can at least let our people live in peace. Many years ago, just before the civil war, during the Tiv riots, the Tor Tiv at the time said: ‘politics has spoilt our land.’ This is where we are now. Politics has become a killing game.” http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/06/politics-has-become-killing-game-in.html

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honorable Yusuf Lasun, has told anyone who cares to listen that he's the next governor of Osun State. Lasun declared his intention to contest the September 22 governorship election in Osun state on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC), on Thursday, June 7, 2018. Addressing a crowd of his supporters at the secretariat of the party in Osogbo, Yusuf said the people of Osun State are ready to hand him their votes as the next governor of Osun State. Lasun reiterated the need for a free, fair and transparent primary election and appealed to the party leadership not to impose any aspirant as the candidate of the party so as to avoid unwarranted crisis in the party. Not leaving APC Yusuf also used the opportunity to debunk insinuations that he was planning to dump the APC. The Deputy Speaker said he is a major stakeholder in the APC and that he would remain in the party to actualise his dream of becoming the next governor of the State. “I’m not just contesting in the forthcoming governorship election in the state, I have come to tell you that I’m the next governor of this state after Governor Rauf Aregbesola by the grace of God. “If the primary election of our party is free, fair and transparent, I can assure you that I will win the ticket and the people of Osun State will vote for APC when the party presents me for the election in September", Lasun said. Commending Aregbesola 61-year-old Rauf Aregbesola will see his eight years as governor of the Southwest State come to an end in the summer and Lasun has promised to continue with Aregbesola's programs because he considers them laudable. Yusuf commended Aregbesola for the strides his administration has scored in the past seven and a half years and promised that he would consolidate Aregbesola’s youth empowerment programme known as Osun Youth Empowerment Scheme (OYES). Deputy Speaker Yusuph Lasun says he's Osun's next governor (Ahmed Mustapha) “When I become the governor of Osun, I will consolidate the OYES programme to reduce unemployment among the youths in the state. We will engage the youths particularly through agriculture. “I’m one of the owners of the biggest farms in Osun State today and I want our youths to develop interest in agriculture. I will deploy majority of the OYES cadets to farms. So, any youth that is not ready to go to farm may not need to come to us because I will also be going to farm myself”. The Chairman of Osun APC, Prince Gboyega Famodun commended Yusuf for his contributions to the party and assured him that the candidate of the party for the election will be chosen through a very transparent process. Famodun admonished the aspirant to play his politics with all sense of humility and urged him to heed both the public and private advice he has been handed. “If it is the will of God for you to be the governor, so be it, but one thing that is sure is that it is only one person that will pick the party’s ticket for the election,’’ Famodun said. 27 aspirants on the platform of the APC have so far expressed their intention to contest the party's primary ahead of the governorship election. The APC governorship primary in Osun has been slated for July 7, 2018. Lasun's parliamentary career 57-year-old Yusuf Lasun was elected Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, June 9, 2015, at the inauguration of the 8th House. Lasun has however been a member of Nigeria's federal parliament since 2011. He represents the Irepodun/Olurunda/Osogbo/Orolu constituency of Osun State in the House of Representatives. Osun joins Ekiti as the other Southwest State voting for a new governor in 2018. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/06/deputy-speaker-says-hes-next-governor.html

The Ekiti state government has described the allegation that Governor Ayodele Fayose, mismanaged about N251.99bn belonging to the state as unfounded and spurious. A political pressure group, under the aegis of Ekiti Recovery Movement(ERM), had asked Mr Ayodele Fayose to account for how he spent a whopping sum of N251.99b being the amount that accrued to the state as federal allocation and Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) under his reign. However, in reaction to the demand, the Ekiti state Commissioner for Information, Mr. Lanre Ogunsuyi, said at a press conference in Ado-Ekiti that at no time did the government receive N3 billion as monthly allocation since Fayose assumed office. He maintained that government didn’t get as much as they claimed. His words: “Even at a time, we were getting as low as N1.5 billion when the wage bill was undulating between N2.5 and N2.7 billion. That is why we are paying in arrears. “It is worrisome that the government has been spending over 90 per cent of the allocation on payment of salaries and pensions and the fact that the allocations were too paltry accounted for why we have been unable to pay up”. On the State IGR, Ogunsuyi said: “Government has not been running any secret account. How do you think Governor Fayose has been able to construct the flyover, did dualisation in eleven councils and tarred roads in some towns even when allocation was not enough to pay salaries? “The governor was able to do all this through efficient and prudent management of our resources, I mean the ones we got internally and those from the federation account”, he stated. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/06/n252bn-ekiti-fund-allegations-against.html

The Attorney-General of the Federation, AGF, and Minister of Justice, Mr Abubakar Malami SAN has asked the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Maitama, Abuja, to order the resumption of the trial of Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye. The court had adjourned indefinitely the case to enable the embattled senator to recuperate. The letter dated June 4, and with reference number DPPA/INVEST./023/18, was sent to the court following Melaye’s resumption of legislative duties at the Senate on May 30. The letter addressed to “The Chief Registrar, High Court of FCT, Maitama, Abuja” was entitled, ‘Re; Charge No. CR/106/18: FRN V Senator Dino Melaye; Request for a date for trial’. The AGF office is, in the case, prosecuting Melaye on two counts of deliberately giving false information to the police to frame the Chief of Staff to Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, Mr Edward Onoja David, in an alleged assassination attempt on his (Melaye’s) life. Justice Olasunbo Goodluck had on May 17, 2018, adjourned the case indefinitely, pending when the senator would be discharged from the Intensive Care Unit of the National Hospital in Abuja, where he was then admitted. However, AGF asked the court to commence the trial now that the Kogi lawmaker has resumed his legislative duties. The letter sent to the court read in part, “After listening to both counsel for the prosecution and the defence respectively, the court in its wisdom adjourned the case sine die (indefinitely) to enable the medical condition of the defendant to be restored to enable him to attend court for trial. “My lord, following his removal from the ICU, discharged from the National Hospital, Abuja and his subsequent resumption of duty at the National Assembly precisely on May 30 and 31, we humbly apply for a date for the prosecution to open its case in line with the ruling of this honourable court cited above and hearing notices served accordingly.” http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/06/dino-melaye-agf-writes-court-seeks.html

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has approved the deployment of scanners in the nation’s seaports to check the influx of dangerous items into the country ahead of the 2019 general elections, it was learnt. Speaking with The Nation, its Area Controller, Tin Can Command Mr Musa Baba Abdullahi said the Service has concluded arrangement to deploy the scanners in boosting 100 per cent cargo clearance at ports. He assured that the scanners would check importation of dangerous cargoes. “With regards to the 2019 elections, the Service is trying to commission the scanners. Some of them are not there now, but the Service is working seriously to ensure that the scanners are put in place. “As soon as the scanners are put in place, we are sure of 100 per cent cargo examination through the scanners. At least, we would be sure of what is coming, compared to the physical examination that is there now, sometimes, human element can come in, sometimes you might forget certain things, which might end up being a serious issue,”he said. On the involvement of foreigners in cargo clearance at the seaports, Musa said foreigners had taken over the clearing and forwarding jobs because most Nigerians are bad managers. He called for a law that would spell it out that certain jobs must be reserved for Nigerians, especially areas where we have the capacity and comparative advantage. “Our people prefer foreigners than Nigerians. We need to ask ourselves why it is so; many of the bike riders are from Chad, Niger etc, while those doing tilling of houses are from Togo and Cotonou. “Nigerians have to change our attitude to work. Sincerely, we are not good managers. You can carry out an independent analysis of certain sectors; take note of the businesses, we work more, if we are controlled by foreigners. “For instance, if you give Nigerian companies, they run it aground. But if you bring in an expatriate from outside, they work hard for every seven days, you would find a Nigerian being engaged unofficially in some family issues and extended family issues. But for the expatriates, who is in the country for the job, he would forget about those mundane things and focus on his job for 30 days,” he said. Meanwhile, the Customs Area Controller in charge of Seme border, Mohammed Aliyu has reclaimed the command’s land encroached upon by some individuals. Findings revealed that the command is ensuring that illegal structures are demolished and those with approval will update their status by routing their request to the Comptroller-General of Customs through the Customs Area Controller. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/06/2019-elections-nigeria-customs-to.html

182 out of the 210 prisoners in the Minna Medium Security Prison are at large following the attack on the facility, the Minister of Interior, General Abdulrahman Dambazau, disclosed on Monday. Gunmen had on Sunday night invaded the Minna Medium Security Prison killing one prison officer and an okada rider that conveyed him to the facility. It was learnt that the gunmen came to the prison premises about 9pm, shooting sporadically for over one hour to scare away residents. Our correspondent gathered that they attacked the prison and gained access after an exchange of fire with armed prison officials. A resident of Kafin-Teller where the prison is situated, Mohammed Umaru, told our correspondent that some of the prisoners that escaped during the incident came back on their own. According to him, most of them have almost concluded their jail terms and have to come back to avoid extension. Addressing journalists after assessing the prison in Minna, Dambazau said that two prisoners whose death warrants were to be signed by Governor Abubakar Bello were among the escapees. “Among the escapees were two condemned criminals whose death warrants were supposed to have been signed by the governor of Niger State today. That is probably part of the motivation for this prison break. However, the investigation will bring out most of these.” The minister blamed the jailbreak on security gaps, saying, “The visit revealed some security gaps which must be tackled to prevent reoccurrence.” He said a committee had been set up to investigate the incident, adding that the ministry would work with the committee’s report. Meanwhile, the Comptroller General of Nigerian Prisons Service, Ja’afaru Ahmed, has debunked the rumour that the prison was attacked because it had Boko Haram inmates. “There is no Boko Haram suspect in the Minna prison facility. We do not know who attacked the prison yet but investigations will reveal it.” Ahmed did not disclose how the gunmen gained access into the prison, the number of officials on duty and those injured. The state Governor, Abubakar Bello, described the incident as unfortunate, adding that the state was set to partner with the Federal Government towards forestalling reoccurrence. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/06/minna-jailbreak-182-prisoners-still-at.html

Four persons, including two teenager, have been arrested at Nsugbe, Anambra State, by men of the community vigilante group for attempting to vandalise a 500KVA Distribution Substation, property of theEnugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC). The vandals were identified as Ifeanyi Okeke, 18 years, leader of the gang and an ex-convict; Ifeanyi Udekwe, 22 years; Emeka Mokwe, 22 years and Kosisochukwu Mokwe, 17 years. They have already been handed over to the police for further investigation. EEDC head of communication, Mr. Chukwuemeka Ezeh, who confirmed the arrest said “in the course of interrogation, the vandals confessed to have been responsible for vandalizing two other EEDC Substations in May, 2018. The substations are: Akpalagu 500KVA and Amumu 500KVA, where they carted away seven 500MM2 intermediate cables. “The leader of the gang, Ifeanyi Okeke disclosed the name of the dealer whom they sold the items to, and the police are already working at capturing the cable dealer. He equally confessed that he co-opted other three members of the gang to assist him carry the cables to the buyer’s location as the cables were very heavy.” In a related development, the Enugu Police Command, last month, nabbed two vandals identified as Emmanuel Nwigwe and Okechukwu Onu, indigenes of Isu Community in Ebonyi State, for allegedly stealing and vandalising electrical installations belonging to EEDC in Oji River, Enugu State. Bundles of armoured cables were recovered from them. Ezeh, while speaking further on the developments said, “the menace of vandalism of electrical installations belonging to EEDC has continued unabated. This impacts negatively on our operations, as funds meant for other projects like metering, transformer installation, network improvements, etc are diverted into the replacement of vandalised materials. “We, therefore, commend the efforts of various vigilante groups, the Nigerian Police, Civil Defence as well as other security agencies, for their efforts in fighting this ugly trend. “We equally appeal to our esteemed customers to join hands in protecting these installations.” To stem this tide, the EEDC had recently inaugurated a Special Investigation and Prosecution Taskforce on Electricity Offences (SIPTEO) to fight individuals and organisations engaging in acts of energy theft and meter bypass, as well as those involved in vandalism of electrical infrastructures belonging to the EEDC. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/06/teenagers-others-nabbed-for-vandalizing.html
