Stop thinking it is a big deal to marry a single parent. It is not.

Who grows up dreaming of being or marrying a single parent. And yes, women bear the brunt here, so it behoves them to act more circumspectly and, make wiser choices, as opposed to unthinking indignation and the push for its acceptance which seems to prevail here?

Yes single parents should be given all the support possible, everything should be done to ameliorate the situation, especially to ensure positive outcomes for the child/ren. But no, single parenthood should not be sold as an attractive alternative to intact biological families, or even, as it seems to be today, preferable, even aspirational

And in the rush to herald this, the intimacy at 11 seems to have gone singularly unremarked upon

though you have a point but I think you are a bit on the extreme, the hatred you see is the true reflection of the current state of Nigeria right now which is a spill over from the 2015 elections, lots of folks are still embittered over their electoral loss. Nairaland is just one of the mediums as it is all over the social media space from facebook to twitter, sharareporters, premium times and virtually all the nigerian newspaper websites.

It will take some time for all these tensions to die down maybe after 2019. Its even better people vent this hatred online than for us to take arms against ourselves. Its a healing process and with time, reason will prevail. We are just being emotional, that's all.

my dear I know where you want to quote to back your false claim. In no where did Christ allow divorce. In fact you can read the mind of christ clearer wen reading St. Paul's explanation in 1 cor. 7. The exceptional clause there in Greek is 'porneia' which has a lot of meanings like fornication, adultery, prostitution and incest when losely translated. Reminiscent of sexual prohibition with closely knitted relation, porneia in the exceptional clause why a man must divorce his wife referred to illicit union as was prevalent in those days. Even in our days their are consensual union among relations...eg. Cousins...consanguinity. This is what christ condemned. A man can only divorce in such case of illicit union, like incest, deceptive union, maybe one party is impotent but hid it from his spouse. Such union is false and from the beginning it was not marriage though took the appearance of one. God hates divorce...that why marriage ain't joke despite how the world has made it look trivial.
