zeb04: no hold on.
You making it a big deal. Is she a crippled cancer patient? She has a son,so what!that disqualifies her from being a human being ?
Stop thinking it is a big deal to marry a single parent. It is not. For your infornation it is a big deal to marry a single mum.Infact,a very big deal. Nothing can be further from the truth like saying , 'the world has moved on.' because it has not .I wouldn't know about in US,UK and Cabada, but in Nigeria it is a big deal. Besides, I don't think you are qualified to air that opinion. It is the men who has to do the marrying that should tell us if they think it is a big deal or not not a wonan who will never be in their shoes. If you have any single man who did get close to him and ask his opinion. He will tell you it took him a lot of courage. My sister you may not know it, but the man will suffer subtle stigmatization and will be the but of many jokes and unpleasant references that is not to talk of the rejection and persecution he may have suffered from his folks for that his choice. |

TV01: Is it too difficult to parse situations with objectivity? The core question should be; is single parenthood a good thing?
We are all touched and grateful for seemingly heart-warming stories such as this one. But for every one we can give thanks for, there are a hundred that left poorer outcomes for both the parent and child/ren involved. Is it overly difficult to separate the personal from policy?
All the data is already in, single parenthood (and I refer mainly to wilful single-parenthood, not widowhood or rape, which in any event are a relative minority) underpins many social pathologies.
It’s a major indicator of poverty, high-profile celebrity instances non-withstanding. It more likely to lead to issues for the children, especially as they approach their teenage years.
Males being more likely to be delinquent, and females being more likely to be promiscuous, are two of the most well known outcomes. Search data for the presence of fathers in the lives of prison inmates.
But there are numerous others, inter-alia, feelings of abandonment, self-worth/esteem issues, developmental and socialisation issues, poorer academic achievement, etc.
And yes, for your average person it has to have a potential impact on future relationships; from the financial burden, babymama/dada issues, all around acceptance etc.
The stigma surrounding single-parenthood may hurt, but at the societal level it is a protective mechanism, not intended to be wilfully malicious to individuals. There is a net cost, which society bears. It’s why families tread warily.
Who grows up dreaming of being or marrying a single parent. And yes, women bear the brunt here, so it behoves them to act more circumspectly and, make wiser choices, as opposed to unthinking indignation and the push for its acceptance which seems to prevail here?
Yes single parents should be given all the support possible, everything should be done to ameliorate the situation, especially to ensure positive outcomes for the child/ren. But no, single parenthood should not be sold as an attractive alternative to intact biological families, or even, as it seems to be today, preferable, even aspirational
And in the rush to herald this, the intimacy at 11 seems to have gone singularly unremarked upon
TV This is.a very good submission. |

Its nice of the women to support there fellow woman. If you dont't know that it is a big deal for A SINGLE MAN to marry a SUNGLE MUM in nigeria then it is most likely that you are a foreigner or you grew up outside Nigeria.
It takes a lot of courage for a sungle man to marry a single mum.
Even when you accept her she or both she and you may face rejection and persecution for that acceptance of her by you from ALL your folks.
I sense that those saying its not a big deal are not being sincere. Some one said the world has moved on. I pray it is true, but the last time I checked it is not yet generally so in. Nigeria, and the last time I checked was 30mins ago.
The most important reason why it is a big deal is because of the pre-existence of a child. Now if after a single mum gets married and says her son is her life and makes no mention of her husband. Itcls very true, like some said, that she is not helping the cause of the yet to be married single mums.
Married single mums should additionally sing the praise of their husband so as to help men at the cross road to garner the courage and boldness to stay true to the single mum in their life that they have come to love.
I really don't know about other parts of Nigeria, but in the west single mums and husbands of single mums are subtly stigmatized.
So, when are man goes ahead to marry a single mum it is a courageous act that demostrates true love if that man was single and not a 'picked up' or 'helpless' or gold-digger man. As such the woman should not forget to appreciate him in addition to her child and others. |

The scriptures I hinted at are scriptures that any one who is conversant with the Bible will remember as soon as reads my last post. But if you want I can cite those scriptural verses for you. There meaning, interpretation and intent are completely obvious. Do renember how bible says an unbelieving husband can be converted by the life of a believing wife. Just imagine for a moment how the life of an average unbelieving man can be and the contrast it will bear with that of his believing wife. |

Berbierklaus: No be You? I know You will still twist everything
The bible already gave the condition that "Husbands 'LOVE' your wives" Toks a wife will not respect/submit/fear her husband if he didn't do the instructions of God.
You are saying a man can/should disobey God but his wife can/should not disobey God.
That is the only part that I disagree with You on this subject and I still repeat that it is the men of God and relationship counsellors from Generations to Generations that have twisted God's ideal of a marriage role play, which is why many men "intentionally" treat their wives badly and still expect her to "submit" to them.
I see that You only use the bible in a way that suits your topic and logic but I want You to remember that the bible said in matthew 18:6 that "If anyone causes one of these little ones--those who believe in me--to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.
Wisdom is for everyone only the wise ones makes use of it. He is right on this. Remembe Jesus said to turn the left cheek to the man who strikes you in the left. Bible says it is a righteous thing with God for a man to suffer u.justly and bare it camly just like Jesus did to bring us to God. It may seem foolish but God's foolishness is wiser thsn Man's wisdom. As the heaven is far above the earth , so God's thoughts and ways are above men's thoughts and ways. |

Goke7: though you have a point but I think you are a bit on the extreme, the hatred you see is the true reflection of the current state of Nigeria right now which is a spill over from the 2015 elections, lots of folks are still embittered over their electoral loss. Nairaland is just one of the mediums as it is all over the social media space from facebook to twitter, sharareporters, premium times and virtually all the nigerian newspaper websites.
It will take some time for all these tensions to die down maybe after 2019. Its even better people vent this hatred online than for us to take arms against ourselves. Its a healing process and with time, reason will prevail. We are just being emotional, that's all. Actually,it is only nairaland that I frequent.I will start frequenting. But Logging the interactions on your application and having it saved in a central repository can help you better understand and attack and prevent it in future.
In most times large companies are hacked or their applications compromised, the first thing they do is to check the logs.
From the logs, they can identify the attack as well as how they compromised their systems.
In cases where there are no logs, such a company can not be able to prevent such and attack in the future. I am following. |

Igboid: Ojukwu protected the interests of Eastern region. Not just those of Ndiigbo.
He was not against United Nigeria, he was seeking for a Nigeria where Justice and equity reigned. Those who were bent on imposing injustice rejected that version of Nigeria he proposed, and instead went about screaming "one Nigeria", a version of Nigeria that protected the interest of their own groups.
Yet they were supposed to be the nationalists, while Ojukwu must be a rebel for rejecting their own version of Nigeria? Did you notice that I said Awo was a tribalist? Of all Nigerian leaders I know only one nationalist :Zik. I hope that aswers your question. And you said you are not "tribalistic" ? |

I don't hate any African group, but I become aggressive when African groups seek to impose demonic union on me. cyrilamx: Sir, fornication in marriage? The Jews understood jesus rightly meaning he made divorce impossible which prompted Simon Peter to say: if that is so btw a man and wife it proper not to marry. Hence towards the end of Matt 19, Jesus gave 3 reasons why celibacy/renunciation of marriage will always go on. Christ was emphatic regarding the indissolubility of Christian marriage not just any union. From earliest days of Christianity, the church fathers and theologians have understood "illicit" as the right translation of porneia. It is a pity the wind of modernism is influencing translation thereby weakening the Christian spirit. |
Christianity Etc › Re: Christians Shouldn't Have A Divorce - Chris Oyakhilome by 2mNaira: 5:48pm On Sep 15, 2016 |
cyrilamx: my dear I know where you want to quote to back your false claim. In no where did Christ allow divorce. In fact you can read the mind of christ clearer wen reading St. Paul's explanation in 1 cor. 7. The exceptional clause there in Greek is 'porneia' which has a lot of meanings like fornication, adultery, prostitution and incest when losely translated. Reminiscent of sexual prohibition with closely knitted relation, porneia in the exceptional clause why a man must divorce his wife referred to illicit union as was prevalent in those days. Even in our days their are consensual union among relations...eg. Cousins...consanguinity. This is what christ condemned. A man can only divorce in such case of illicit union, like incest, deceptive union, maybe one party is impotent but hid it from his spouse. Such union is false and from the beginning it was not marriage though took the appearance of one. God hates divorce...that why marriage ain't joke despite how the world has made it look trivial. I'm sorry.I don't agree with you. As at the time time Jesus made the pronouncement many of the kin marriages were not forbidden. Your choice of the appropriate English word for the Greek word use, considering, the context is not correct. As far as I can see , the appropriate English word in this context is fornucation. However what I will personally study is whether Jesus mean't pre- or post marriage sex cause another gospel used the word adultery in the translation. |

uwagimboo: Even the bible supports divorce if it has to do with infidelity...
For Chris and Anita, they should tell us who is eating outside else their divorce is a sin.. No,if none of them is has cheated does not make the divorce sin. It makes it null and void before God.Meaning as far as God is concerned they are still man and wife. And that is my take on their status untill there is proof of cheating. It is until any if them attemots to remarry that a sin if adultery comes into the picture. |
