There was one time I went to a hospital, and they were forcing one little boy to drink his medicine which of cus he didn’t like. To my ernest surprise the mother wrapped this little boy like an anaconda, used her fingers to shut his nostrils leaving the poor boy with no choice but to open his mouth AND GULP!! went in the medicine. That was some 6 yrs ago and I still haven’t recovered from that.

grin grin
Our mothers has a proverb to this end: to ba ko ni gba, a o fun l'ekoro, that is, 'if he refuse at 'take' we'll force it down his system'. So they will compress the child in-between their thighs safely, using the right hand to pour the meal direct to the child's mouth and the left hand to form funnel and to block the child's nostril the moment the meal is poured and gulped, the woman release the nostril spasmodically in the process. The mother clean up the child after the feeding experience. #CelebratingAfricanwoman.

is lion king your favorite animated movie or some other one.

do you watch animation?
In actual sense, I don't watch tv so much.

But I love to watch action films anyway. Thats how i relax o.
My list is so lean: Alias, Nikita, and the epic Legend of the seeker.

But going way back to childhood, all I can remember is Frago rock, voltrun,
superted, then bug life. I never watched lion king.

I love Yoruba movie, especially the advert part of it, true.

CultureRe: Olokun by 2prexios(op):
Odu Ifa are quite clear on the matter of Olokun from Ogbe Ate, Ogbe Irete, Irosun Ogbe, Ose Owonrin, Ejiogbe, Oturupon Meji. It is very important to understand that there is always a deeper meaning to verses, and when speaking of orisa is doubly so. You can take an academic who has studied Ifa, who writes books, but he or she will miss the deeper meaning inside those verses, because they do not WORK inside the tradition, they are not priest with a destiny. You will even find some babalawo and iyanifa who are superior above others. It is natural. God gives to each one certain talents and insight.
My curiousity is, hope you are not stuck to the farinade olokun's blog for the ultimate info on Olokun? His word-set premise is faulty and as such, it is literary-bankrupt. Its okay as a folk story but not good for historical citing. I am confuse that you don't see it as such.

Please share 1 or 2 of the Odu Ifa with us, so we know the tradition you are sharing has Yoruba undertone. The reason is not far fetched, I am Yoruba, I don't want to buy a foreign-version of my history from a third-hand source in the name of deeper meaning verses.

Here is the rule: Aigbofa laa woke, Ifa kan o si ni para. I am not affected by how philosophical an Ifa practitioner wax, what matter most is the words of the poetry. But if all we have is philosophy without sharing of Ifa verses, we are on personal enterprise.

I am not troublesome, I just don't take it when we have to use subtle standards just to arrive at an answer. Let the answer be clear and simple. I know who I am dealing with, respect.

[quote author=Ekundayo7]Whether you believe Olokun to be male or female, I reiterate, is due to geography.
Note:Are you an unbiased specialist?

You will find plenty of "natives" who worship Olokun as female, especially in Lagos and Ogun state.
Note: Then you are not a specialist, you have your personal preference, but you want mine "caged" in your conclusion.

And whether you are referring to Olokun as Olokun Iserin Ade or seri Aje,
Note: Your clever mistake is a proof that you have no native-vocabulary on Olokun of your own.

the truth remains that Olokun is the Mother of Aje, her children.
Note:You have a wrong perception on what Aje is to Yoruba tradition. Think about this.

It makes no difference if one prefers male or female. All orisa are both male and female energy.
Note: It makes a lot of difference to you, hence you choose to hammer on it to foreclose collateral damage.

Olokun worship historically was always concentrated on the shores of West Africa, as the Yoruba and related people shared her worship. Parts of Benin and Togo include Olokun worship, though oftentimes Olokun is viewed as a male irunmole there.

@Ekundayo7, please take note that it is not Olokun seri Aje, but Olokun Seni Ade.

Seri is akin to Seri, and we all know that Aje is Yoruba female icon of wealth. It is possible to confuse Aje with Ade and to be misled by this delicate misconceptions so that one will easily take Olokun as a woman when native adherents believe the same to be a man.

CultureRe: What Yoruba Names Are Commonly Associated With Leadership by 2prexios: 8:52pm On Sep 20, 2014
tpia6: Olu is supposed to be reverence i think.

ie reverence for God.

the suffix is what would determine the name's reception.

Ade is also somewhat like Akin, but not exactly quite, although it does mean royal.
Not too sure if in traditional setting Olu represent Oluwa, except until the advent of Christianity. But Olu is a derivative of Sango, the great. She was the historic Olu-Ko-So, Alado. Another Olu comes from Olumo, meaning Olu-omo. To this the Yoruba has a folksong:

Edumare funwa l'Olu omo,
Edumare funwa l'Olu omo,

Olu omo man dani lOrun o,
Edumare funwa lOlu omo.

God give us the crown child
God give us the crown child
the crown child delight the soul
God give us the crown child.

Meanwhile, the Yoruba understood Oluwa as Lord, so we can say in Yoruba, Oluwa-re, to mean 'oneself'. this is a contraption of a clause, meaning "Oluwa-ara-re" (Lord to himself), i.e. a free moral agent. like you have it here in a simple statement below:

one don't have to pay attention to every distractions.
Oluwa'e 'o ni lati f'iye si gbogbo iregbe-k'iregbe.

A section of Yoruba will say, "oun tika lara re" as a variant of oun fun(a)ra re, to mean 'one' has done something by 'himself' or personally. We can't exhaust all Yoruba codex, just have to keep digging.
CultureRe: What Yoruba Names Are Commonly Associated With Leadership by 2prexios: 8:25pm On Sep 20, 2014
tpia6: my point of reference is a general sphere, not a political one.

ie in the context of "what were the parents intentions when giving the child this name".

In politics, generally names like olusegun [God's victory- actually just means victory or victor], babatunde [ancestors have arrived], oba-prefix, ade-prefix [and especially ade-suffix] are sure bankers in that arena. Like, the basic real McCoy.

just my opinions.
great tpia, i hail o.

Well you know how it goes with Yoruba names: Ile laawo kato s'omo loruko.

Parents always have reasons to recourse to the ancestral traditions before giving their children names, some of such reflects on parental oriki and some on Agbole. This is meant to attach a man to his patriarchal history so to say.

For instance, my own oriki-agbo ile is "omo ola", so my dad added Ola to all the names of my siblings, according to progression of male children in his descent. Of course his successful man, but the Ola he was ascribing to was not wealth per se, but family or ancestral tradition.

Goodspeed.

Thanks partner, I can only hope Nigerians know the value of what you put in their face up there, it is their access to independence and success, but only few people do care so mush about it. Moreso, we are trained to depend on what the paid employment have to offer us over and over.

One day, we will value enterpreneurs more in this country than we do presently, and to the budding enterpreneur in the house, I will tell them the same thing I told my friend this morning, "endure the raining days, changes gonna come". He has borrowed some money through me from a friend and now it got so difficult for him and he was avoiding me and my friend.

But today, we met at the aisle and he has nowhere to go. He began blushing and I was full of pity seeing a friend so scared of me, so I pacify him with positive words because I know, a better day lies ahead of him, but as a confused person now, he might be discouraged. We need ourselves to grow and inspire each other.

this is what I told him:

"And please don't discount this value you have gotten, you have the experience at what you do, you have the idea of what you do, you only lack money now. Its only one more thing you need to go, by chance or what have you, good fortune will blow the last thing you need your way someday, so don't hide or avoid me please, you may be losing now, your time is coming that we will laugh with you. We are laughing at you now though."

A better time will come, keep it up.

this is great information resource.

A stitch in time saves nine. How I wish I did register my business name at 2009, then it used to be N4000, but I have to spend extra N6000 on it to get the business incorporated, though its just a business name and not limited liability.

Sometimes, if you are not gunning for bigger contracts, you can start small with business names that ends with concept, holdings, enterprises and so on with corporate affairs commission. Read more here...http://nigeria-wealth..com/

But try be creative when penning your "importer and exporter" stuff, remember to put "General contractor". So you can still use the business name to submit quotes or vie for contract some day, when your friend becomes the governor.
BusinessThree Simple Secrets That Successful Business Guru Put To Mind that Works by 2prexios(op):
Sometimes, success is utter simplicity. To succeed, learn with all your might to be simplistic in business.

But a lot of us do not take that route because we don't expect success to be so easy. No wonder success elude the one who is over witted and over-talented. A case of being "too wise to succeed". Have you seen a case like that before? read more at

http://nigeria-wealth..com

Here are some of such principles:

1. Don't put all your baskets on one egg: Gosh what a daze. You see, if you can question your answers aforehand, you will discover how delicate your venture may be, then it will be clear to you that your capital is more valuable than the profit you are seeing. So don't deceive yourself, see through the sucker. To this end, risk is worth not taking than losing taking it.

2. Who ask you to diversify? Let the market be the one to ask you to diversify and not your friends. it is good to have positive people around you, but time and again, positivism in subtle issue is equal to gambling. Many positive enterprise has gone awry and one start to count losses after the experience.

3. stay calm and confidence. Yes, your lifeline may depend on it. Be calm and focus so you can be baron where you are. Then and only then can you consider your next line of business, as fun and not as dangerous or risky engagement. Remember, the cutting edge is in you and not in some outward experience concealed somewhere. As such, don't go rousing the devil.

see you at the top.

what I see as baffling among my Lagos people is when someone gave birth to tortoise and I said I don't believe it, and everyone was making face at me as if I don't know 'awon Aye'. Everybody want it to end at labe orun, and its soft sell, nigeria-I-hail-thee already.

At last, I was right, the man who delivered the woman of the child has replaced one of her twin children with tortoise. Police uncover the ruse.

Part two, a woman gave birth with a child holding the holy book, I asked people was it printed in heaven or something? They were like, "what is wrong with this person?" So to douse the tension, I said, "my child must be born adorned with turban before I will take him as mine".

Another bad boy beside me said, it would be better that your child be born with kettle for ablution.

there are two group of people when it comes to enterpreneur, first the group that does the investing before thinking, and second, the group that think before investing.

We all are made up of the two categories, but the best bet is, never be thrilled to invest by pure emotions. Do the due diligence. Many times over, the most safe and secure enterprise has failed woefully.

The best is to do the due diligence, and if the risk is what the take, go for it. but, do not invest when you don't have complete picture of what you are putting your money on this season, remember this:

"it never get to become money as quick as it becomes goods"

MONEY MAKING TALENTS

Every creation of God is equipped with varieties of talents that yield maximum result if well honed and channeled. But not many people are truly ready to unlock their innate gift. They often prefer to go to the grave with it, not knowing the bundle of wonders locked up in that tip-of-an-iceberge flairs for things they love doing. But that’s so bad.

Our area of giftedness is what can easily transform minimal effort to maximum result. Imagine working at what you do not like, the result would be less impressive, compare with working exactly at your area of strength. The result will be greatly impressive. But before taking the bait, the point is, where does your talent meet enterprise?

You just have to unlock this fundamental secret. My talent for instance can be prose writing imagine what would be the result if I run to a dedicated publisher that says’ "hey, this is business" or if I am a musician and then I meet a promoter that says “Wow, this is it!” At that point, my talent has met enterprise.

Now is it all talents that work this way? Not at all! there are talents that are latent. Hardworking Spirit is a talent, the spirit of honesty is a talent, enduring great temptation is a talent, having long suffering and courage to continue after series of setback is a talent, being optimistic in face of risk is a talent too, not everyone posses it.

These great many human qualities and virtues call talent has transformed a lot of peoples' life and has reached several generations and beyond with spirit of hope in face of self doubt and challenges. These human virtues are meant to be used for good and not bad, in order to attain the good pedestal in life by an individual. Now when you set to go into a business, what must you do?

Check out your area of strength, because you will need it at the turn of tide when you have exhausted friendly- customers and now dip to the deep out of your comfort zone. You may not have a screaming talent, but check out your latent talent, it can be the harbinger of hope when the going get tough. Use it.

Grandpas cousin was happy to have her brother’s children with her. But as time goes on, one of the sisters, the eldest has grown more matured and experience, she seek to move on in life and build her own life the way it suits her best. So she look for job at a knitting outlet at Onola, and that was the most prosperous period in the fast urbanizing glowing city of Lagos, a beautiful jewelry behind the sea.

The young woman was happy going about her job without disturbing anybody. Then one of the co-worker in the outlet was so much in love with her. After much persuation, she cave in for his overture, you know men now!

So the two lovebird began their relationship together and they are seen together in all occasions. They became the toast of the town. The man has seen his good dreams that has long eluded him come to life, taking shape at the pace of every moment and thought.
But there was a problem: his in-law to be, my grandpa’s sister was not favorably disposed to this man. You know what; he’s too pompous for her liking! It is natural with some lagosians to feel pompous at themselves if you have observed them closely: they have superiority complex and describes everyone else.

So at times, the man will buy lovely designer shirts for her beau to feel loved and special. He did know how to impress his heartthrob! And you my son, when you have found a woman that your heart desire, take it as a burden upon yourself to engrave your memory forever on her hearth, in goodness of the spirit of love.

Life is fleeting and you can be her idol. Maybe she would love you always in transverse of a lifetime. The man, by the token name was a prince from Igbomina stock. His name was Sammy. My grandma’s first daughter was a beautiful damsel. And together, the lovebirds continue their life together, hoping for future so divine in promise.

Two great event shape the destinies of these two, Sammy got a good employment at Nigeria Airways and was so happy coming back home that night to break the news to his fiancé

“Femi guess what? Our life will sing a new song now,” said sammy.

“What happen, you just won some money or what?

Oh, stop kidding me, would I ever bring myself so low?"

"Well I know you wont, but just tell me what's new?"

"My love, We are made, I have finally secured the Airport Job!!!

"Hey sweeties I'm happy for you, I trust you, I know you will make me proud.”

I’m proud of you too Femi, you're so beautiful”

Hmm…

Another wonderful thing, or the tragedy is that they couldn't control their success together, though they've both come of age, but they fell into the temptation and the lady was put in a family way, my grandma’s first daughter, her lady. And the foster mother was not happy about this, she has found the loophole to exploit to deal with the man she don't always like.

"Look dear", my grandpa’s sister said “you will go to your father in the village and tell him that you are pregnant. Get me the feedback as soon as possible and don’t be silly!” The woman was not happy with the turned of things, enmity that never was has finally ensued. She will play her own part in the destiny of these two lovebirds.

So the lady took her time and one fateful day, she set out and appeared before her dad, with dread of the unknown outcome hanging in the balance upon her heart. Well she is the type that is meek and lively, and always ever prepared for whatever fate has in store, she is an amazon in her own respect, a fighter without breaking or retreat.

Of all the tales that have been told in this world, maybe fate or destiny or something else beyond our control often interfere with our path through life, and that certain crucial and decisive events has a beautiful tragedy in store.

For the young lady, She was not prepared for it. Maybe her heart breaks on her way to the village, I do not know, my son, I do not know. But that homeward journey began a downward spiral in a life of a lady so beautiful, and so full of life and hope. She was stepping into a plate to be a victim of the chess that families love to play on their own, because they have the power over their children.

“So are you telling me you are pregnant for the man before you are betrothed to him? Are you the one giving yourself in marriage to a man now? Is that how we train you to comport yourself before you left this village?” Grandmas daughter was knelt down as elders sat and some others hang around by the window.

“Go and marry your husband” Grandpa said. Grandpa was not happy, but he has to show it, even if he would still be pressured to see things differently. Oh, poor grandma, has her daughter brought her shame or honour? Was there a canon for how adults in love should comport themselves and go about relationship given a specific age and social/hormonal pressure?

Grandma, I can feel your pulse now, knowing how much you suffered and toiled to get this child, how much sacrifice and rites was performed, and now she’s on a crossroad where you cannot help, where your words don’t count. Oh grandma, are you crying? Are you crying? Please don’t cry, she will still find her bearing in life, she will make you happy and perhaps bring sunshine to your world if it is on the path of her destiny.

But its true.

If Quran says this much about Jesus Christ for you to believe in him,
then what are you waiting for? Become his disciple. That may be next thing your life is waiting for.

As for me, I usually consult the original source of an information on an issue as the authoritative view.
I sees other source as piracy or apocrypha of the original source. Except where there is no competition.

But that's my personal view anyway.

bawo ni oo?

Prexios, i miss you and your insightful contributions. Yes, Im back, and we are going to have fun teaching and educating about Yoruba culture.
I'm the happiest person brov, having you back.
We are call for this, it is our ori inu that gave us this mantle and nothing we can do about it. We just have to keep advancing this aspect of our nationhood. As a people, this is the department we find ourselves as "politicians", maybe in the future our children will make money or rule their entity from the internet.

But today, we must lay the foundation stone for a formidable future of a race we care this much about, the Yoruba race, so that she might rise and shine her light and by so doing become a lighthouse to the black race and human race at large. We will not cower to front for the Yoruba of Human race, we will not limit the glory of a glorious homeland.
