On the 11th of September an amazon link was sent via whatsapp to a NL shipping agent to indicate intent on purchase of a particular item (an inverter) and to inquire about his cost of shipping by sea given the item estimated weight of 198lb. He informed me it would be around $55, based on which I went ahead to purchase and informed the agent to ship by sea when the item arrives on November 3rd (according to amazon 2-month estimated delivery date) because we both agreed it would be stupidity to ship such heavy item by air.

Fortunately/unfortunately, as is common with amazon, the item arrived 5days earlier on October 28th, only for this NL agent to ship it by air without informing me. When he finally informed me I told him he will have to hold onto the item when it arrives Nigeria until we figure out how we can settle cause it is pointless for me to pay double when the shipping cost alone will buy the same item in Nigeria.

Now this agent has refused to send me my goods of an earlier shipment with him even after I completely paid for these items since October 12th. His reason is that I must pay for the YET TO ARRIVE item before he can release these.

It's too late for reconciliation coz irreparable damage has already been done to Bosun's brand as well as this thread's.

Furthermore Bosun has maintained he was just a middle man in the fake approval saga. If he has evidence of remittance of any like funds as consideration to a third party on behalf of maverick around that period, then it makes it deficult for the prosecution to prove him guilty of more than negligence. And considering time and resources to be invested in the matter, both parties would loose equally.

QC1 being a gentleman, and having tried to salvage Bosun's reputation b4 himself becoming a victim, definitely needs more than just an apology from Bosun.

Best action would be for Bosun to stay off nairaland until such a time he can stage a rebranded comeback. But he can't. He seems to have psychological issues as do a lot of mature men here... I usually plan a decking to last for 3 weeks, except for unforseen circumstances which might prolong the work for a few more days, at worst is 4 weeks even if it's a double flat of 3 bedrooms.

The first week will be spent with the carpentry team laying the wooden platform, second week will be the turn of the iron fitters to fit the decking beam, then lay the mat thereafter, without returning the mat, the electrician should be baking his "concrete biscuits,"

Third week will be a week for everyone, while the electrician and plumber are combining same time to fix their conduit pipes, the iron fitters will be returning his mat while the carpenter will be framing the sides and covering the spaces below the beams in preparation for the cast.

On my part, I stand to supply good quality materials, send n wood first, iron rods next, electrical and plumbing fittings and finally the cement and sand/chippings for the cast proper. I will also be planning with the casters from week 2, working out arrangements for the water and poking tools plus all other works.

It's always a busy, yet interesting process which I have enjoy doing. I've got at least 85 decking slabs under my belt

Regarding the key locks, a friend bought his doors from an importer (above 50 pieces I think) and collected them direct from the container b4 they were offloaded. All the bundled locks were very good.

Is it possible that the low quality locks are swapped by the warehouse rats?

Bros, I can't discuss the security measures in place in those malls here but what I want you to do next time is to look at the board behind the cashier, they have pictures of suspected shoplifters displayed.

I know there are daredevil shoplifters (no be person go steal Aregbeshola's mobile phone) who will want to try their luck though by picking those items that are not tagged but trust me they know and they're monitoring everything. It's just matter of playing back the CCTV video files around the section.

100 of million nairas was invested into security gadgets and softwares for this purpose. I knew this because I was really into systems integration then and a lot of this malls were managed by my company. This is not just hearsay.

Back then, we just make a laugh out of most people because we knew the real shoppers and the wannabes forming daughter of the president of United States of Aba

They should have invested part of that money on training and staff motivation.

CCTV watches for suspicious behaviour. It has limits, just like it has blind spots.

They had CCTV on konga & Jumia warehouses yet things moved. The best it can do is to try time-stamp the movement of certain goods and see if it was perfected within reasonable time from when it was moved. Hence it can't easily tell a particular one when say 4 similar items (SKU) are moved simultaneously from one part, taking diff alternating paths out but only 3 of them was later paid for within same time span.

Above all else, nigerian staff can be innovative when it comes to stealing.

Shoplifting is one of the major prob of most shopping malls in Naija faces but the South Africans (Shoprite) brought RFID tags and they were able to stop this. They were not just talking about the problems, they acted on it and ensure it worked.

It all boils down to staff.
Next time you go to Shoprite, shop with multiple carts, pay for them separately then combine them into one cart after payment and see if you can't pass security with just the purchase recept for one of them. They just glance at it without checking. Thats without an insider help oohhh.

I beg to differ on the shoprite n multichoice example. These Organization promoters are people in high places /government and you cant compare the impact of government policies/agencies on this organisations viz-a-viz a start ups. How many companies that was founded in the 90s that are still existing?
The cost of doing business in Nigeria is very capital expensive and thats why some companies cut corners to be in business and if you compare this to diasporan coming home to invest wanting to do things proper it will take alot of guts to with stand what will be thrown at him.
The way I see it is that for start up one will need to start small and grow the business overtime because it might take sometime before you breakeven before the profit start rolling in.
For me am looking at pure water business, farming(fufu & garri majorly) retailing gas & Kerosene and my small crib in progress with shops in front.
I no get time for uptown market naa downtown (igboro) market be my target, you will be surprised how much this people send on commodities and also thier consumption rate is high.

I don't know the story of shoprite but I do know it suffers loses from theft. The same pattern that nearly put jumia and konga to bankruptcy; Where listed big fridges and large screen TVs just disappear from inventory. And they had supplychain and inventory managers oohh.

To me, the challenge is securing loyal staff with integrity to establish a biz structure first.
