Ask yourself, the factors you listed are prevalent in other African countries but series of studies have shown that contractors in other African countries "eye no tear" like Nigeria. Why? Why would it cost less to build same structure in South Africa, a country with similar income with Nigeria or even Gambia, Gabon, Kenya why? I know why........their eye no open.

Please take the game to the next level and we the fee paying clients want to see that translate to dependability, cost and trust.

I dont think there is any conflict of interest here ...guys have a look at https://www.mybuilder.com/ it is not a new idea at all. I am just looking for a way to get good and quality builders. I believe all i want to do is to try and solve a problem that would benefit me as well.

One the other issue i find, how do you get reports from your builder especially for those in diaspora; imagine a platform where you can attached proof or purchases, building plans, pictures of completed work. You can also submit this for review by other people.

It will be difficult for a dubious contractor to suddenly care about integrity, they will naturally show these dubious tendecies, it is in them....

Hi Guys,

I have dabbled in buildings (hostels and private apartments) myself in the past and i still need quality builders and other types of workmen from time to time. One thing i struggle with is how to get reputable people, people whose previous work can speak for them. Do you guys think if we had a platform where people can bid for projects, provide estimate, update their clients, show progress of work with pictures would help.

My background is in IT and i can easily build such a platform. I would gain by also having access to a pool of workers and also the app would be monetised in some way or form.

I know there are some popular people on nairaland, but information such as previous works can be difficult to track easily. Also feedback from clients would help so that we can all make an informed decision. I am committed to build this platform to completion if enough interests is shown.

I received an invite for interview this Sunday... Which is tomorrow, one I don't play with church and secondly from previous post no one has been called after the first interview, even the CCR took close to like a year before they reply them... Is it worth going and what questions should be expected even if I change my mind

Applying for jobs have been more frustrating after my services year, it's seems the job will never come even with a good academic background and work experience everything look rigged in my eye. So I will be dropping my BSC for my Waec since all I need his a job to take care of my needs And family, I feel there was no need of me going to school if I knew it will be like this, after all I just need a job to save up some amount and venture to my business full-time.. I hope for the best with my Waec result soon....

@twinskenny: I knew you back then in the FTA section on Nairaland when you knew nothing about wiring or electrical installation!
I remember the kind of questions you used to ask ..which shows your level of 'knowledge and competency', and the FREE answers you were given.
A few years later now, you think you have joined the "Elite Club" who can charge whatever they like or the customer can go to blazes or imply that your outrageous prices are reflection of your level of competency, professionalism or qualification?

While l agree that different Artisans have different level of competency and skill set, l think there is a minimum standard we all expect from such job (smooth, well-angled where necessary and on time), irrespective of how much the Artisan wants to charge!

I think it is always wrong to equate Quality of Work .... to how hefty the Labour Charge will be. It is NOT directly proportional.

=Thank you for your input.The project is for a superstructure of a 3 bedroom all ensuite and a 2 bedroom 2 bath, The whole project is a 5 bedroom duplex with 2 unit of 2 bedroom flat on same plot. We just finished foundation and german flooring and started walling this week till i asked them to hold on because of the quote for this phase: the bricklayer charged 295,000 and he supervisor said he made him reduce it to 270,000. The supervisor of the project said 3400 9' block will be used for this phase and said the bricklayer will lay 70 block a day( this is when i started having misgivings). stating 4500/day (3,000/bricklayer and 1 laborer to a bricklayer:1500/laborer). 3400blocks /70 blocks per day =28 days x4500/day.= 216,000 and 54,000 for filling of 36 columns...makes 270,000 in all. Please help me. I am thinking of getting another person entirely to do this work now.

The painter could use masking tape to cover up the sockets and switches while painting.

Please how many 9' block can a bricklayer lay in a day when superstructure/ walling is being done?. I have conflicting response from the 2 bricklayer i contacted and need the house input. one said 70 in a day another said 80pcs of 9' block in a day. Kindly help please.

@ hajji I disagree with your opinion in that regard, how many people can afford to test water quality @50-150k even if it's was once a year. Every government form 1976 till date as failed us as people. I hope things turns around for better Soon

you see when i told my cousin about descriptions of doors i want, I only suggested quality iron doors and gate for all main entrances. I said but all inside doors should be wood. He was like "hell no. everything iron all through"

have to believe him unfortunately cus he lives there. He knows how nija looks like. Honestly i hate burglary stuff but seems we got no choice even if we fence the house. SAD

Why should its be individual or commercial entities business in the first place, it's should be government business to make sure sefe water get to the citizenry for consumption. All the water that go through pipes in my location is tested every 5 minutes, I repeat every 5 minute 24/7 throughout the years.

Yeh but Industrial safety does not mandate us to carry a fire extinguisher in our cars unless its a HGV/LDV or any public/emergency and utility vehicle.Its these stu**d leaders in Nigeris who always like to put the cath B4 the horse.

Then again mounting it by the Centre pillar of one's car is one of the reasons we should not have fire extinguishers in cars except the are HGV . That centre pillar houses the seat belt mechanism . Tampering with that will amount to one reducing the safety of the car.beside fire extinguishers are compressed gases and powder so we should truly amd realy not be ha ING 5 hem in our cars . Emergency vehicles abroad who carry compressed gas of any type have to display a green sign in thier car showing the sign for compressed has.

I have searched NL Car Talk, but didn't find a previous thread on this. FRSC officers here present, I have decided to relocate my extinguisher from the trunk to underneath the driver's seat, in hope that I have the presence of mind to remember in an emergency.
Most burning cars (fuel, not electrical) begin either in front of or behind the car cabin.

I keep wondering why most employers do not promote their employees and this came to my mind..The reason why employers do not promote their employee is that most employees do only what they are told to do..they are not willing to do more, think more or even go the extra mile.
They lack initiative and professionalism.some employees are not willing to learn and develop soft skills needed for them to succeed in their career. they do not do things that exceeds the management expectation and most of all they don't think like a manager but like employee......what else do you think could deprive an employee from being promoted?

One thing that still baffles me is people who put their cars in park at every red light. It’s either you catch them red handed when inside their car.. or you see the reverse lights of their cars flash for like a second when moving from “park” to “drive“.

Some believe it’s the best thing to do.. thinking “park” saves fuel compared to “neutral“. But I beg to disagree. I’d like to know your opinion about this.

I’ll also like to take you through the disadvantages I perceive to be associated with this driving habit..

1)
Constantly shifting into park may cause excess wear on the parking pawl of your vehicle.. causing the gear to get stuck. The parking pawl is a metal pin that locks up the transmission in park.

2)
The gear lever bushing of your vehicle is also at risk when you shift unnecessarily.

3)
If another car hits yours from behind, the parking pawl may get damaged.. and your car will just roll into the opposite traffic. Brakes provide much more stopping potential.

4)
Another big danger is, it may not allow you to safely escape in the event of an emergency. I am sure you know the gear gets hooked in park especially on a slope. Sometimes a split second can save you the difference between getting away from a threat and being a victim.

5)
Someone even mistakenly put the car in reverse instead of drive.. the rest was history.

I am sure you agree with me that this driving habit is not that safe and efficient after all. It even causes a little more delay when the light turns green.

Finally, it is understandable that you may be too tired to hold on to the brakes.. or your car may have too much horsepower for the brakes. In this case, shifting to neutral and applying your parking brake may be a better option.

Do you do this? Why?
