Klass99: Uyai, you made some valid points and I will try to articulate my thoughts as best as I can, in response to you. Let me share a tale of two women I know personally. I've talked about them before on a different thread, but their tales are suitable for this thread as well.
Kelly - one of those classmates I mentioned in my post graduated with a 2:1 in Accounting, she used to top her class back in the days and was a true definition of beauty and brains. Shortly after graduation she announced she was getting hitched to some politician in our home state and all, while awaiting NYSC she hadn't even served. She was one of those high achievers/top performers the likes of PWC & KPMG would have snatched up ASAP! Today she is divorced with 5 kids, when I think of her I feel like a bright and rising star was derailed in her prime and never got to shine more brightly for the rest of the world to see. Her father owned a pharmacy (the HealthPlus type, that combines the sale of drugs/groceries) I heard she worked there.
Nelly - A neighbour two streets away from my crib, is also an Accountant who graduated with a 2:1 is married with 2 kids and works with KPMG in a managerial role. Nelly started out as a graduate trainee and met her hubby Mike at KPMG. Mike has since moved on from KPMG and is doing well as a manager too in a different company. I admire this couple's professional and home life, they are not even 40 years old yet. BUT you see, Nelly started out by choosing herself first, choosing a career/work life first before marriage, which led to better doors opening up in her life;
1. She met a good and quality man in the course of her career/work life. 2. She has been on several international professional trainings, sponsored by her company. 3. Has exposure, a robust and well rounded life.
I can't help thinking Kelly may have had the life Nelly does too, if she had just put marriage on hold for some time and gotten out of our home state. Our home state is one of those old states that doesn't have much to offer in terms of career/work opportunities. Nah civil service work full there, I am so glad I got out of there myself.
Women need to stop thinking of these things as choosing a career over marriage, think of it as choosing to do you first, choosing your overall well being, choosing your financial, mental, emotional and physical well being first, before you do marriage. Scripture didn't lie when it said money answereth all things (money, not marriage or kids ) Do you not like having your own money to deal with problems? The question is not for you specifically Uyai.
I think choosing a good career/work life first, before marriage helps a lot more, than when you do it the other way round. And there is the perception part The more you seem to bring to the table, the more you are valued and considered an equal partner. The less you bring, the more you are considered baggage. Note that what you bring has nothing to do with money except your partners earning power has not passed the critical mass stage |

CalliDora1: Nobody is talking about doing girly things forever. I'm talking about discovering yourself outside the scope of marriage and it's brouhaha. Like what you want and who you would really want be. The things you want to do at will like going on hols outside the country alone to unwind without the children and hubby showing up with their daily demands and stuff. Mehnn.. it's like prison. That is why I encourage everyone single to maximize their singlhood before getting trapped in the confines of marriage. All I see is a problem of perception Like the proverbial half full vs half empty The first faulty premise/foundation is that there is such a thing as the best of both worlds. It doesn't exit. With all things in life, it's about trade-offs and finding optimality. Science/Engineers say its like finding the intercept between 2 divergent plots The other part is more about self discovery and defining one's priorities. If you don't know where marriage falls in your hierarchy of human needs, you'll either enter too early, too late, or get mismatch partners |

Sultty: I need expert opinion on shipping container house. I'm seriously contemplating on this and what are d possible costs when getting a 5 bedroom, 1 kitchen, sitting room with guest toilet and a small waiting area. Is it truly less costly than brick houses Off the top of my head I can generally say it is only better when a quick and temporary structure is required, else run away because: Higher energy costs used in cooling during mildly hot season Inhabitable in very hot weathers like in the core northern parts Sensitive to plumbing and rain leaks which can rapidly degrade the insulation materials Very low (tending to zero) salvage value Circa 5years of stress free use before maintenance becomes an issue Will add more when I settle down Update: Might need to differentiate between shipping container housing and Portacabins (portakabin tm and similar designs). The latter is just prefabricated steel homes which overcome some of the limitations of shipping container homes like dimensions and sound/heat insulation, but can be triple expensive plus usually greater trucking distances. Those dimensional limitations are fairly straightforward. The standard containers are either 20ft or 40ft long. But the width and heights are fixed at 8ft & 8.5ft respectively. This makes them pretty tight after the insulation has been added except one opts for external installation instead, with the increased cost. Special containers with 9.5ft height are rare and expensive. Furthermore, all the walls of a shipping container are load-bearing structural members, so any design that entails cutting out sections, needs some sort of re-inforcement. The temperature difference between the controlled temperature inside, and the outside day/night extremes result in damp walls and molds similar to when using light coloured plastic overhead tanks instead of black. Additionally is the health part. Containers are difficult to track around the world. Some have been used to transfer carcinogenic chemicals. Also they use industry paints that can withstand harsh sea conditions to coat some containers and those paints might contain toxic metals |

Greenarrow01: something is happening on this thread that if care is not taken, will lead to something nasty later in future. This same thing happened on the agric thread sometime ago, the guys name was emmachile. Emmachile was like the most resourceful person on the whole agric section, he mentored and helped a whole lots of agric enthusiasts on that section, one day someone came up with a fraud claim, and emmachile was tagged to be a scammer. His named was soiled and man deleted his username and left nairaland. Thousands of pages of information on poultry farming was immediately deleted. After everything, emmachile was vindicated,he was not a scammer and it was just a stupid mistake from the accuser. But all those pages were gone. I have searched and search on his organic poultry with no success. Same thing is happening to nxt and some other guys here. If someone scammed you, bring proofs and and give detailed explanation on how it happened here for everybody to see and judge, don't just be behind your phone and be labeling people both directly and indirectly as scammers. These might just be minor misunderstanding that can be corrected. no one on here will deny the fact that next had hhelped answered loads of questions on this thread. If you are cheated bring proofs. Spoiling peoples business is not it. Some people are even claiming he has two or 3 monikers. Funny thing is that he has never denied owing all monikers. Some are claiming he hijacked kobocity to himself, pls where are the other administrators of this project Some are saying he is showcasing old works bla bla bla, are they not his work ? .I am not saying he is not a scammer or he is a scammer, I am saying people should bring proofs. Labeling people is bad if you can't provide proofs. It scares away potential customers. Even if the accused person is vindicated. Man is still on the forum Posting daily, still people are accusing him.
I come in peace. I am not holding brief for anyone I just want us to learn from what happened on agric section Don't mind the typo pls[/b] If you were here between 2014 ~ 2017 you would probably understand better, When more than a few persons allude to something, then that something is worth investigating It is their MO to showcase knowledge (whether real or imagined) and provide online assistance in order to gain trust of future victims clients The records are still there (like 1,000 pages back) for anyone who has time for background checks |

retouchfoods: Does labour union still help matter today? I really thought it was in the past.
Some employer may even sack you with your union and wait for the case. It’s the oldest trick in the book: cut off the head of the snake and hope that the others will fall in line. Only works when there is a weak resolve or disunity. The management that uses this approach has usually studied the body language of the workers well enough before calling their bluff Labor unions are the last hope of the unconnected common worker Its like chess board game with strategies many centuries old. There be 2 sides: Management vs workers, with each trying to bully the other while fearing a reprisal or backlash. It must be noted that management is not the owner of the biz, but just a fellow employee. Management no.1 tool is the power to sack, but they cannot sack so much workers at a time as to significantly reduce production targets, thereby generating significant losses. The biz owner is usually interested in only two things: the balance sheet & company reputation. If the management cannot deliver on both, then they start head hunting for new management. Union no.1 tool is to grind the system to a halt, but they cannot do that longterm least the biz owner decides to packup and go to another viable option elsewhere. |

Bonus: if ur smart, learn a little of every subject, just enough to chirp in to conversations.
Point-c is to attract ur helper. Point-a is to avoid being labelled a prostitute. Point-b is knock-out punch. The bonus is bragging rights.

Is a PhD an end in itself, or a means to an end? Entry level employment for a PhD is very rare save for teaching profession.
So many PhD lecturers dreaming of either and Oil & Gas employment, or immigration to Canada!
A lot of Oil industry experts were employed with nothing but their first degree but somehow acquired same PhD in as little as 5years.

Seun: I'll abandon this line of argument and go back to the point that only Canaan was cursed in the passage that inspired this thread. The purpose of the story of Canaan being cursed was to justify the ethnic cleansing of the land of Canaan by the Israelites. Biblical authors view Ham's son Kush as the ancestor of black Africans and he was not cursed. So there is no biblical basis for the notion that blacks are cursed. urahara: Lol , I have never for once believed the silly story of Noah . And the thing is that cannaan was cursed and not Ham , maybe the isrealites used this to justify their destruction of Canaan. They Bible is clearer on a-lot more issues than most people give it credit for. Analyzing just the book of Deuteronomy alone, we see that the Isrealites were: 1. Commisioned to destroy 7 nations completely (Deuteronomy 7:1-2), but enslave others who may challenge them (Deuteronomy 20:14-17). 2. Not because they were cursed, but because they had been scheduled for destruction for their unique wickedness just like Sodom & Gomorah. (Deuteronomy 9:1-4). 3. The Israelites would takeover their lands just because it had been promised to Abraham & sons. (Deuteronomy 9:5-6) 4. The entire Israelites (men) were mandated to participate in this ethnic cleansing (Deuteronomy 3:18-20). 5. It was to be a slow & gradual destruction to serve as a lesson to other nations and a test for the Isrealites (Deuteronomy 7:22-24). 6. They were forbidden from inter-marrying from these nations (Deuteronomy 7:3-4), but were allowed to marry other nations. (Deuteronomy 21: 10-13) 7. The rules of engagement for other nations were less crude. At the least, the nations were offered a choice (Deuteronomy 20:10-12). The Isrealites were allowed to exempt themselves from any military campaign not involving those 7 nations (Deuteronomy 20:2-8 ), and they could take their daughters as wives, and their men as slaves, as a reward for participating in any such campaign (Deuteronomy 20:10-14). 8. Part of the fear was that those 7 nations might corrupt/ infect the Israelites (Deuteronomy 12: 29-31; 18: 9-12) |

KolaShangOne: This is true. I actually did a bit of searching to get that image when i was presenting a paper on minimizing potable water use in order to address the problem of water shortage. most places in sub-saharan Africa and Cities like Capetown in S/A, Yemen etc will soon run out of potable water. And we know the implications.
We all know the problem lack of potable water causes. Infact, per year, more people die from lack of potable water than all the wars combined.
So the challenge i had was developing a new product that will help reduce the use of water so that it is more readily available. There are some challenges with the prototype already developed and we are trying to modify it for the African markets.
The major issue is FUNDING. if we can develop this model, and actually perfect it, we can save lives and also, the better for our environment. . For as long as no one uses the hand/washing bowl (for sufficient time) after flushing the toilet, how will the reservoir be refilled? It may require 2 levels of filling & a way to measure/discharge a fixed volume for flushing. Level 1(eg. 0-50% of reservoir capacity) to be refilled immediately after each complete emptying. Level 2 (eg. 50-100%) to be filled from recovered wash bowl water. Plus an overflow line to drain incase reservoir is full. Each flush to measure out a fixed volume. High complexity due to extra moving parts. More efficiency, more costs, less hygiene, less durability! Better to have bioseptic tank, and recycle waste water after collection. |

It depends on ur course of study.
If ur currently in engineering or related fields, then get the HND cert first. After which you can go for post-HND (which gets ur B.tech/Bsc in 2-3years). That would qualify you to apply for any/every entry-level job opening (in related fields) in larger firms even after intermediate employment by smaller firms.
On the other end, if urs is management et alia, a HND is not recommended for now until Nigeria grows up. |

My guy just needs to calm down a little, ...you cant be any of the "veterans" here, in one month He can't calm down and he definitely can't change (not for long enough). He has already been given enough warnings and advice to last a lifetime (all the way from page 748, a lot of his spam posts were deleted using the report button). Reporting him and getting his posts deleted is actually to his advantage. Daboomb: In my opinion, Just dont spam the thread with adverts. I know it could be difficult at times, to draw attention to what you have to showcase if left and dumped under a pile of threads that people probably dont even bother to open
But just one good picture of your drawings and a LINK to your thread where you have all your adverts/work done, should do the trick. Dont post multiple advert here on this thread, it can damage the eyes. ... *And dont get sarcastic as well, l can smell that from one mile. *Take your time to write well when you post, it gives a bad impression to potential customers when they cant really "coordinate" what you are trying to get across. 44chux: Some persons like Azuh type in a certain way just to be funny. amicable09: Let's go over that your "in all loan transactions" banks have the right to vary interest rate without recourse to the borrower... I don't know about other banks and I've not seen their offer letters but I've written CAM and I've done a few offer letters, I know that when it comes to pricing we always state it clearly that "it is subject to market conditions" so the customer is aware and if anything happens, we notify them in writing.
That's informing them beforehand. Am not a banker but as I type, I have various loan agreements and offer letters from Zenith bank and GTbank before me (from 2012 to 2016). Let me categorically state that there is no where any one of them mentioned in writing that the bank has a duty to pre-notify the customer in writing before interest rate reviews. They write you when its convenient for them and there is nothing you can do about it when they don't pre-inform you before the effective start date. Infact, the whole terms of the loan agreement are designed to make you have zero locus standi |
