to fix "out of space" error when trying to (re)install an application when you do have space
i get this at times when i uninstall an application and then try to install it back

you need root explorer, or any file explorer with root access (obviously u must be rooted)

go to /data/app look for a .odex file relating to that app u are trying to install and delete.

yeah. its not really harmful to the phone. it just means evidence that the phone software has been tampered with and a custom rom or radio installed.

its for warranty purposes. the idea is that for instance you cannot brick your device by messing with flashing, then send it back to where you bought it and claim warranty. it shows your warranty is void.

like i said it would only apply to you if you originally bought the phone abroad and you intend to claim warranty.
there are ways to remove it anyway, like i earlier said.

An advantage of the much maligned internal SD arrangement for new phones is that it makes it very easy to dualboot roms which is precisely what im gonna do henceforth.

HOW UNA DEY?

mhozzis: Pls guys. I've bin followin this thread frm inception but now i nid the help of the android gurus on dis galaxy s2 i just got frm a frnd. I've exausted my 250mb on googlin about d problems but im not satisfied with things i'm reading so i tot the pros can put me through.

PROBLEMS
1.The phone shows a warning msg with yellow triangle at start abt installin custom roms so i was advised to use a three key combo to turn it on, so i tot it was rooted but its not cause tantium backup could nt access root.

2. the phone runs on gingerbread (2.3.3) i've checked for OTA but its say no update available.

THINGS I WANT TO DO
1. Upgrade the phone by flashing a stock rom (ICS 4.0.4) frm samware meant for uk. Pls i'll like to if this would pose any harm to my phone.

2. Root my phone, must online tutorial on rootin are meant for galaxy s2 runin ICS.

whosoever sold it to you had flashed a custom rom and triggered the the flash counter (thats what the yellow triangle is)
its meant to signify that you have tampered with the phone and voided your warranty. but its for people abroad anyway.

it can be removed by an application called "Triangle Away" i think its on the play store.
there are also other ways, USB Jig etc. u need to check XDA section for the S2





as for your questions

IS YOUR PHONE THE AT&T OR NETWORK VARIETY, OR THE INTERNATIONAL VERSION S2?

if it is the international version go ahead. if its locked to a network (now unlocked) use the file appropriate for that network. there are subtle differences in the firmwares


1. you can flash the ICS ROM. from UK or any country. does not matter much.

however, verify the file u have is downloaded properly. check the MD5sum.

USE ODIN ON THE DESKTOP
USE A VERY GOOD ORIGINAL CABLE
MAKE SURE YOU DON'T LOSE POWER ON THE WHILE FLASHING both on the phone and on the pc
TICK ONLY THE PDA SECTION ON ODIN AND LOAD THE FIRMWARE. DO NOT REPARTITION AND ALL THOSE THINGS.

you may get lucky and flashing the stock firmware will remove the flash counter. (its been known to happen)


as for rooting, im sure u can get easy tutorials on that.

NB: there are no OTA Updates for custom roms or rooted phones. you should always go back to stock unrooted before tring to update via OTA

The country firmware you run also matters for updates. if for instance there has been an update for a particular country, u will get it if the ROM you run is for that country. but i always recommend to download the firmware and flash via ODIN. best results

when it comes to HTC and Sense, forget it. HTC will never ever be able to produce a stock rom that makes any sense

that thing is HORRIBLE!! their devs should be lined up and shot!

When the fans sing that they 'want their Arsenal back' I believe they're referring to a yearning for a few things, namely:

- Having a balanced squad with genuine options on the bench. At one point (what now seems an eternity ago) we went into each season with a solid defence, reliable (if mental/pony-tailed) keeper, a midfield mixed with craft, guile and hardness, and several options up front that could be altered as and when needed. Oh, and we had genuine talismen throughout the team - particularly up front. Now the squad is made up of some kind of assortment of random players, that don't really seem to have an understanding of their role and remain in the first XI despite poor form. Ramsey is a wonderful example of this - whenever his name is read out at the stadium there is a collective sigh as everyone there knows how the game will pan out. He's pretty average in his preferred position, but playing him on the wing is pure lunacy. An experiment that Bendtner was also party to a few years ago. Also, if Gervinho were at any other club, we'd be laughing at their misfortune.



- Making the same mistakes again and again. This applies to both the constant inability to defend, committing the highest number of individual mistakes leading to goals since the beginning of last year, playing players out of position and the manager not addressing issues in the squad that should have been fixed long ago. Going into this season with one out-and-out forward seemed bizarre at the beginning of the season and it now seems plain crazy. Taking off goal threats such as Podolski (who is hardly enjoying being an out-and-out winger) and then bringing on Coquelin for Giroud in the closing moments of the last match were yet more tactical mistakes that are now commonplace.



- Having players that want to play for the club. Perhaps the fans want to see players that want to wear the shirt as opposed to Arshavin who clearly doesn't want to be there yet is now (rather depressingly) our final throw of the dice. Add to this the number of outright duds that can't be shifted like Santos, Squillaci, Djourou etc that contribute to our scandalously high wage bill that does not tally to the number of genuinely talented players we have in the squad. Also, I'm not the only one who is a little suspicious of the likes of Rosicky having an outstanding season in the last year of their contract, where they miraculously stayed fit for months on end, to then be struck down for another five months with the same kind of strain that doesn't seem to affect many other professionals for years on end.

Sure, we've generally sold players in the past, but they always went abroad and at times when they we're below their peak. Also, we managed to stave Real Madrid off Vieira for many years before he finally left to go to Italy. Compare this to the current situation where the Manchester clubs can have a free choice of our best players every summer - I'd quite like the old Arsenal back in this regard too.



- Having a manager that behaves in the correct manner. I love Arsene Wenger, dearly, but his behaviour over the past few years has been strange to say the least. His attitude on the bench every week where he's screaming, arguing with officials and generally looking minutes from death is not a pretty sight. It's not always the third officials' fault that Gervinho has needlessly run into four defenders/out of play again. His comments in the last post-match interview (where he was particularly prickly and awkward) were a huge change from the ice cool, composed and intelligent man we saw a few years ago.



It's not a pretty situation at the moment, but people claiming that these fans are 'plastics' is both ignorant and unfair. These people pay a lot of money to follow the team throughout the country and should expect, at the very least, the players to actually try hard for the three points. The ownership issues have always been there, but when you consider how much money the management and Board members earn, it's irritating hearing them moan on about having holier-than-thou morals when it comes to paying players high wage increases whilst we lose quality players every year.

BUT do not discountenance the SIZE!!!! be very sure u will be comfortable with a daily driver that size. dont get me wrong its not too big in my view. i LOVE it esp because of the size, but its an issue for some folks.

as far as i know, its simply a more powerful version of the S2.

just as the Note is essentially a Larger dimension s2/s3


unless you have some very esoteric needs from your phone you should not have a problem. its a phone!! a very good one.

thats the first phone i seriously had doubts flashing a custom ROM on, i just did'nt see the usual rubbish like lags etc. but i did eventually, and its not even with me again.

i use the Note as a daily driver, and i can recommend that too, esp now that Jellybean is going to be released officially for it soon

BlackBaron: Simply put, Samsung has mothballed the app2sd functionality on their latest devices.

My internal memory is now labelled as SD Card whilst external memory is extSD card. When trying to move apps, the app2sd fails with an error message as it can't locate 'phone'(internal memory) and move to sd. The story is Google is trying to make manufacturers ditch sd cards 'as they are less secure?' or something about storing data on clouds.

Only option is to install Gls to sd; this can only move data files to ext sd card but not apps.

but i can move applications on my own samsung phones and it works perfectly

for data files they get stored on the internal storage marked as sdcard.

if you want to have them on your external micro sdcard, there is actually a minor tweak that switches the mount points and mounts the microsd as the sdcard and the internal one as external. search about it on google, its a well known minor hack, u just edit a file.

i never paid it any attention because i never had any use for it!!
