ComputersRe: Post Your Computer (PC) Troubles Here. by 4llerbuntu(m):
[s]quick help needed

i got a HP with me, with its restore partition intact. but when i try to use the partition, it says its disabled.

both from the HP utility and from f11 when i try to start it. gives some BCD error line

what can i do to get it to work?
[/s]

EDIT:
i gather that i need to change the flag on the partition to bootable.

apparently, even in win 7 i can only have one basic drive/partition, and changing the flags from dynamic back to basic still wipes a partition or drive.

thank God i jumped. are these still going to be present in win 8? smh

then i apparently discovered again that upgrading or installing different versions of MS office is still a nightmare. the registry keys from a previous install do not get deleted. even ccleaner did not delete it. i had to go look into regedit and delete the license key from a previous install manually before i could install office 2010!!

joeydozzy: sorry if I sound so ignorant but is linaro an os upgrade of android or a custom rom
calling it either would be inaccurate.
its not a custom rom per se.

its a modification of android code. its taking the source code of android nd making it better. kinda like a fork.

which is why Google is interested in merging that code with stock android and full replacement çustom roms are building off that tree.

cyanogen rocks. for the record!!!
PhonesRe: Android, Anyone? by 4llerbuntu(m): 9:56am On Jun 11, 2012
Basically what i just posted above is a version of Custom Android modification called Linaro.

from the above, a linaro build and a stock Google build of Android 4.04 were put to the same benchmarking tests on identical hardware.

The linaro build was done in about 2 minutes, the android build which was started before the linaro build was still running at the end of the video.

android 4.04 is pretty fast, but for you to get code thats 4 times faster!! cheesy

can you imagine how much faster your phone would be running that!!!! no special hardware, no jumping through hoops , no special tweaking!. then imagine also overclocking such a phone!

http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/06/09/linaro-android-nearly-doubles-ics-performance-and-now-parts-of-it-are-being-added-to-cm9/

Amazingly, Game changing fast. Dream update fast. Crazy fast. Maps is almost instant on.
News started to trickle out this week about a new Android build called Linaro.

Basically, it takes stock Android 4.0.4 and makes it super-fast, and super-awesome(er).

In fact, it can boost performance by up to 100 percent over stock. Considering how fast and fluid stock Android 4.0.x already is (especially compared to older versions of the OS), that's quite impressive.

Don't take my word for it, though, here's one of the main Linaro guys, Bernhard Rosenkranzer, showing it off on a TI Pandaboard.

The Pandaboard features the OMAP 4430 processor (the same one that's in the Droid RAZR), so this is definitely a real-world example of what Linaro is capable of:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mrQRYmYip6Q

As you can see, the Linaro build finishes long before the stock Android build. That's not the best part though: the parts of Linaro that make is so efficient and fast are coming soon to Cyanogenmod 9.

Basically, parts of the Linaro code have been submitted to the CM9 gerrit and are currently awaiting approval. Once commited, these tweaks will be added to the main CM9 code, giving all supported devices a drastic increase in performance.

The good news doesn't end there, though: Galaxy Nexus owners can already take an unofficial CM9 build with the Linaro bits for a whirl. From what we've read, this build is noticeably faster and more fluid right out of the gate. Awesome.

Since the first rule of CM is don't ask for ETAs, we have no idea when we could start seeing builds show up with Linaro code, so for now, we'll all just have to take comfort in knowing that things in the CM9 world are getting ready to get a lot faster.

an example of our previous discussion @ lynxnoo

For over a year now, a French law has provided a means for law enforcement to block stolen phones and prevent them from being used. French mobile phone users are encouraged to record their IMEI number online with authorities as a precautionary measure. Once a phone is reported as stolen to the police, operators are required to transmit the unique IMEI number on each phone to a European bank in Dublin, Ireland. Then, this bank is supposed to block usage of that phone, rendering it unusable.

The French newspaper Le Monde (Google Translate) reports that mobile theft in France has dropped 20 percent between April 2011 and April 2012, suggesting that this measure has been somewhat effective.

However, the Paris police department has now announced that it has discovered the use of software called Z3X, which has apparently been found in 50 mobile phone shops in eastern Paris. Z3X is a Ukrainian-made tool that offers what appears to be a specific way to reset IMEI numbers on various specific phones, including models of Samsung, LG, NEC and other phones. The group has listed resellers scattered across the United States, Europe, Russia, Ukraine, and Libya.

The software apparently allows the IMEI number on the phone to be reprogrammed, which under French law, according to a French police source speaking to Le Monde, is punishable by up to two years in prison and a €37,500 ($46,000) fine.

Not surprisingly, these reprogrammed phones end up back on Parisian and French streets. The newspaper also reports that the French Ministry of the Interior and the French Federation of Telecoms have been looking into how to deal with this new software.

“We would like there to be a synthetic engraving of the mobile IMEI number directly on the phone,” said Frank Carabin, a Paris police spokesperson, according to Le Monde. “We would ultimately like manufacturers to put in place a device that would remotely make phones unusable when stolen,” he added. “We need to quickly find a solution.”

i no its possible but dnt tink d engineers dere can n even if dey do sef . . . dey will def want to bleed d customer dry . . . lol
actually met one who did that in 2010!! he migrated the number on the izap stick onto his phone, and cleared it with their switch
for his personal use tho.

all those things are like that. for example i know a swift engineer who has free internet on a usb stick. it is a specially created thingy, and it is not official. go figure
PhonesRe: Android, Anyone? by 4llerbuntu(m): 4:04pm On Jun 07, 2012
I really do no think it means much.

fact is as long as the dude at starcomms has said it can be programmed, it can. and you can do it yourself.

it only means there is a particular place in the phone, most likely radio firmware, that the details and phone number of the network it was locked to will be changed into that of starcomms.

its not so dissimilar to unlocking a phone!

too bad im not the one using that phone. say who die? mcheew.

@Atmreloaded. my advice to you is to get more interested, or else just plunk down the 10k for dem oshofree.
i can bet you it will go into some engineers pocket there, and the guy will just use one tool on his laptop, prolly the one they use for their own android phones to give you a number.

actually what they want you to do is pay for their number plus extra on top for them. if you had a previous number on their network, you would just transfer it.

i have never done anything or searched for anything in that regard but...

i give u an example. BB storm one comes with CDMA and GSM radios. t was even locked to verizon.
one day i put in a CDMA sim and it did not work.

Later i discovered the code to get to the Engineering Screen and found i could change the number and and MNI/MCC codes. i did and rebooted, Voila it got network.

what im saying is i dont know about your phone, personally all the phones i have used, i tinker with them indepth.
but im pretty sure if you can get to the Engineering screen or get some tool wherein you can edit the radio firmware or even just flash anor one, it will work just fine.

Not that Juninho was a mercenary. Indeed, much of the importance of the transfer lies in his immediate persuading of English football fans that passion, determination and spirit were not attitudes held solely by British players, or indeed even European footballers. Despite being diminutive, Juninho succeeded in impressing despite the cold weather, coming runner up in the FWA Player of the Year.

He reached two cup finals in his first spell, leaving for a profit of over £7million after relegation (due to a desire to appear in the 1998 World Cup), and returned permanently in 2002, just months after winning the 2002 World Cup. 'Boro fans will never forget his tears of joy after helping the club to their first ever trophy, the 2004 League Cup. He kissed the pitch and beamed into the camera as 40,000 fans lauded their heroes. In December 2007 he was voted the club's best ever player, and appeared in a farewell friendly last July, completing a lap of honour to salute the fans at his spiritual home.

In essence, Juninho was the prototype for the successful foreign flair player, epitomised by the following quote: "The most important thing for me was the football. If you are happy with the way the team is playing, never mind the place, you can adapt. People said it would be cold, very different weather from Brazil. But I think it's better to play in cold than heat. It's easier to warm up than cool down."

It is not the fault of Juninho his move opened the floodgates for clubs to search further afield for players. Nor was it his fault that his transfer fee mocked the £4million paid by Newcastle for Warren Barton months earlier. And it wasn't his fault that English managers and owners realised that flair and professionalism were not mutually exclusive characteristics.

And it is certainly not his fault that for the next fifteen years our clubs blindly gambled on foreign talent to the detriment of our own young players, wilfully forgetting that for every Hernandez there is a Boselli, and for every Jaaskelainen there is a Chalkias. And as 'Boro found out, for every smiling Juninho there is an AWOL Emerson. So whilst his move may have been a catalyst for an unrelenting migration of players of varying abilities and attitudes, Middlesbrough fans will forever be thankful to their naturalised Brazilian, 'the little fella'.

Juninho had also starred for Brazil during the Umbro Cup in England in the summer of 1995, playing all three games and scoring a free kick in a 3-1 victory over England. Finally, he had been named Brazil's player of the season, and was being tracked by a host of Europe's top clubs. Yet he moved to Middlesbrough, who had never won a trophy.

Juninho was not the first South American to play in the Premier League (Uruguayan Adrian Paz holds that honour, stat fans), nor even the first Brazilian (Coventry's uncapped and Portuguese-born Marques Isaias taking that award), but his move sent shockwaves through English football. English clubs had attracted significant stars, but they were often seeking a last hurrah akin to the North American Soccer league of the 1970s (Ruud Gullit being the trailblazer of such an approach). The few glamour signings that had been made - such as Dennis Bergkamp and Jurgen Klinsmann - had been attracted by life in the capital.

London's Evening Standard famously struggled to accept the logic of Juninho's move, running a story claiming that the Brazilian had mocked the north east accent and accused the town and its women of being ugly. But neither town, club or fans gave a toss. They simply pinched themselves and dared to dream.

And here lies the importance of Juninho's move: he was the poster boy for a new dawn in English football. The Premier League was formed largely because the biggest clubs demanded to yield a greater slice of football's ever-increasing resource of income. But this was not Spurs signing Klinsmann, and it was not Arsenal buying Bergkamp. This was Middlesbrough, an industrial Northern town of 135,000 people; and this was Middlesbrough FC, trophyless and having spent just two of the previous thirteen seasons in the top flight. Before Juninho, their record transfer was £1million for Neil Cox. This was unprecedented.

The transfer highlighted to many football's universality, English clubs finally taking on board the truly global nature of the game. It is easy to forget that foreign players were effectively banned from our game until 1978.

Alongside this integration, the link between money and football was forged ever closer. Merchandising and sponsorship had become increasingly vital, and Juninho's transfer was in part funded by the selling of the naming rights of the Riverside stadium to BT Cellnet for £3million, and a subsequent shirt deal worth £1million. The Brazilian was paid £13,000 per week, instantly becoming one of the highest earners in the Premier League, and in addition he received a £660,000 lump sum for agreeing to the transfer. The irrepressible commercialisation of English football was laid out for all to see.

IGNORAMUS!

Thought id share this article. For those of us who actually started supporting premier league sides during the rothmans footy era grin grin brings back memories. cheesy cheesy cheesy

http://www.football365.com/faves/7797940/Focus365
When identifying the most significant transfer in the 20 seasons of the Premier League, there are numerous candidates to consider. Arsene Wenger's transformation of Thierry Henry from unfulfilled wing play to unrivalled prolific goalscoring; Fernando Torres breaking the £50million barrier; Sol Campbell's infamous Bosman move; or Leeds spending £7million on Seth Johnson to spotlight a club gambling with the greedy desires of unrealistic ambitions. All were factors in shaping our footballing climate.

Manchester United's signing of Eric Cantona is another obvious nominee. The Frenchman not only effected the club's immediate propulsion to the benchmark level to which other clubs must aspire, but also inspired a younger generation to succeed. Ryan Giggs, when in 1998 discussing the players perennially staying behind to practice after training, recalled, "We've always done it because that's what Eric always used to do. We just learned from his actions, the way he played and trained."

However, in terms of irreversibly landscaping the future of the Premier League, and indeed English football as a whole, the key moment may have arrived in October 1995, when Osvaldo Giroldo Junior landed on English shores. He was better known as Juninho, and he was signed by Middlesbrough for £4.5million.

That 'Boro should want to sign the Brazilian midfielder came as no surprise. They were a club apparently on the rise, using the millions generously provided by Steve Gibson to make an assault on Premier League football. Just nine years after liquidation, Middlesbrough moved to the 35,000 all-seater Riverside stadium and were promoted back to the Premier League, with Bryan Robson given funds to attempt consolidation in the top flight.

The shock, however, was that Middlesbrough pulled off the coup. As Nick Harris describes in his excellent book The Foreign Revolution, Juninho was a player on the up, genuinely labelled as an heir to Pele's throne as Brazil's number 10 and, at 22, the potential to be a genuine star of world football. At Sao Paulo, the midfielder had won the Copa Libertadores, Supercopa Sudamericana, Recopa Sudamericana, Brazilian Champions Cup and the World Club Championship (beating AC Milan in the final), all within a two year period.

yes you can but why would you want to?

its not particularly useful given the attendant problem of screen size and touch adaptability of the desktop

usually I'd say u need a very powerful phone with at least 512 to 1gb ram for it to run decently.

u also need prepared image files and not just the stock ISO.

u need root access and ADB, busybox installed. the whole shebang.

it is actually run from VNC so you will need android VNC installed.

truth is its just a proof of concept thing so if you are still interested, Google is your friend. choose the lighter distros such as lubuntu.

I guess its really just for fun anyway, not serious use.

nateevs: Alright bros no vex. But na you dey run ya mouth. Your comments made me go hard on you. Like you said, you are not one for financial arguments so why are you having one?

FFP allows for a club to make losses of 45m Euros over 2 seasons. Last season Chelsea made £220 in revenue with £65m loss. That's with back-to-back seasons of dropping out in the QF of the CL. This year Chelsea won the CL, total revenue from the CL alone is already in excess of £50m. Estimated revenue post-CL triumph could take total earnings up to £80m, i.e. Sponsorship, TV money, gate revenue from the extra competitions - Super Cup, World Cup Championship. Increased revenue from TV pot for the Premier League clubs. (As winners, we are joint top-earners with Man City).

Regarding transfers, players transfer values are never added as a lump figure in any single financial year. Instead, the amount is amortised over the length of the contract. Meaning, £32m for Hazard and £38m for Hulk and £7m will not be added as £77m in the next financial year. For that reason, Chelsea are now signing players on longer contracts - typically 5 years as seen in the length of contracts of Torres, Luiz, Ramires and Mata. So will it be for Hazard, Hulk and Marin.

With a longer contract length, the amortised figure is less. So a £32m Hazard signing will show up as just over £6m. The total transfer value of £77m will reflect as just over £15m in the financial year. With the total estimated increased revenue, do you think an amortised figure of £15m will kill us?

Portuguese wages are low and heaven knows Hulk may not be more than £30,000 a week. A transfer to Chelsea will double that and still put him in the wage bracket of Mata, Ramires, Luiz, Cahill and I reckon Marin, Hazard will fall in that bracket and in line with the new wage structure being implemented at Chelsea. (Never mind what the media want you to believe about Hazard). So will others who join. Players like KDB will earn much less yet provide a credible amount of work to the team. With the fusion of the youth players like Josh, Kakuta, Bertrand, Hutchinson, the overall wage bill is going anywhere but up. Especially with the release of Drogba, Anelka, Alex, Kalou, Bosingwa and subsequent releases of Malouda, Essien, Lampard and Ferriera.

Does it really sound to you as though Chelsea are in any bit of trouble that you paint a picture of being so skint we can't afford to make £30m transfers? With the all important clause in the FFP rule stating that "the club needs to be showing efforts to reduce spending", you were having a hard-on for nothing. Exactly why I cam down hard on you.

Bone FFP, Chelsea are in good shape.
ok, but the part i doubt is the wages. dude the kinda wages being paid these days man, i doubt if pple like hulk and hazard will be on less than 100k. but then Drogba's wages alone will offset hulk and half of Hazards.

cuz men if that were not to be so, then pple like Van Pee wont be stalling on 130k o. but honestly, id be surprised if you guys make more than 2 big name signings. reality is that fantasy football is only played online

you and your frustrated group of friends are quick to insult chelsea fans yet u will be the ones to call on ur friend(moderator chamotex) to ban another for saying his mind.
from ur little knowledge of ffp, chelsea cannot survive within her income yet man u owes the highest debt in epl. for u to live within ur income, u need to be debt free. man u as a team is paying nani 90k a week and are ready to pay 130k to keep him and they won nothing this last season meaning they need reinforcements. who are they bringing? wenger types of players i think? if remaining high on debt list will be part of the survival when the FFP laws come into effect, chelsea will not be found wanting because we have an owner that will be there to give us interest free loans.
man u as a team went for hazard but failed and chelsea went and succeed, why are u mad about that? man u used to parade the most expensive players in epl until the coming of roman and the abu dhabi don at man city. every talk and envy must wait for these new powers to exercise their financial muscles.
i will suggest u learn to live with these new ideas in soccer or try suicide.

nateevs: Absolute joker laying the inner thought of his fearful mind bare and hoping that FFP can provide justification for those hallucinations. I bet you can't even explain how FFP affects/doesn't affect transfers.

When you see Hazard and Hulk next to the Chelsea club secretary, buy some tissue quickly, you might burst an artery.
has that nucca spewing thrash all over the european football board infected you with his malaise?

u need to show some respect brother. as in really......."i bet you can't even explain......"

that's just too bad of you. and here i am thinking that we were all just getting along fine now the season is over. guess being a knucklehead is one of your best attributes. huh huh huh angry angry angry

by the way, i remember the last time some ninjas were doing financial projections here u cats were over a 100 mill in deficit. with 25 or so mill for AVB and the projected nearly 100 mill for the latest splurge, added with definitely sky high wages for the shiny new players i do believe that your money making has not yet caught up with your spending!

so tell me how you are supposed to live within your income when expenses are more than double income.
the 1st 2 years are not that crucial anyway, given the % of compliance you are supposed to meet, but are we now to assume your club will simply stop spending money or suddenly acquire more income making schemes out of the blue?

anyway, im not one for the financial arguments, my point earlier was simply that all those newspaper rumors are not likely to be true, and i cited the FFP as one of the reasons. apparently i overestimated the intelligence quotient of your board and management, at least according to you! grin grin grin MERDE!!!!
