blackweaver: i take it you have a tv card then, i don't see why not. talking of possibilities, you thinking stuff like recording programs tor instance?
yes, recording programs, esp whilst watching anorther. possibility of dual view...... that kinda stuff.

what do you think??

BTW is it absolutely imperative i have a TV card? to pipe digital signals to the PC? its got DVI

my current HTPC tho old has some very funny multimedia card thingy going in it. lotss ports for all kinda stuff. DVI. many ports i dont really recognize.

i noticed the manufacturer listed a driver for TV output for it but when i try to install it gives some error thingy.

now the main reason why i actually never looked into it is because i figured there was no way to get signals to it anyway, and im not into dee-jaying grin grin grin

i was just reading NL yesterday when i had the "lightbulb" moment. my real challenge now is time!!

anyways i need input, esp if anyone has had any experience with this kinda thing. will make life a lot easier

BTW, XBMC is on another level now men!

There are times i wonder why some pple deem it fit to defend this political class at ALL TIMES AND AT ALL COSTS.
But i'm sure you pple do know that there are a few times when the decision jonathan administration makes will be wrong? as in you do comprehend that its is actually possible for the govt of the day to make mistakes and do wrong?

huh?

where and how does it ever make sense for a country struggling to deal with insurgency within its own borders to send its troops to go fight insurgency in another country?

This was the same way he ran his mouth during the Libya issue, and presto most of the illegal arms that got out of libya found their way to nigeria, along with ready fools to use them and train others.

now you are going to mali, your soldiers will be soldiers there and commit a few crimes. you add some more disgruntled fanatics into the Nigeria haters mix. For a country with little or no security, no borders and no political will, THIS IS A VERY STOOPID DECISION

Download the latest Flashtool from here http://androxyde.github.com/Flashtool/ & kernel from http://www.4shared.com/file/qNTvdPI6/Lt18i_41A0562_Kernel.html

IF you have flashtool that is at least version 0.8.5 above you may free the flashtool and just download that kernel

to your computer and once it’s downloaded, you now need to visit the path C:/> flashtool > firmwares > and then delete all the data present and place the kernel which you have downloaded.

Run the Flash tool and then click on the flashing icon (left side below “file” option) to Select flash mode > ok. After this all you need to do is to just follow the on screen instructions. I WANT TO BELIEVE YOU KNOW HOW TO USE FLASHTOOL?

Now, connect your device to the computer with the help of original USB cable and ensure that all the apps are closed in your phone .

Once the device is flashed with the same, you will see that the device will stay on the SONY logo for longer period of the time and it takes longer time than expected. Please don’t turn Off the device in the middle of rooting process.

After flashing restart your device, it may not start completely, may remain at Sony logo or remain blank/black. This is not a concern if it takes longer time than normal to root the device.

Once the device finishes the rooting process, it will reboot. You can check whether your device is rooted or not with an App called “Root Checker” which can be downloaded from the PLAY Store. OR JUST INSTALL SUPERUSER.

If the device is not rooted, you need to follow the steps again.

Note: If your Xperia ARC S is not rooted successfully, you then will have to hard press the Power button to turn Off the same and reapply the whole procedure to start from the scratch.

ComputersRe: Inye: Made In Nigeria Tablet PC- How Far Can it Go? by 4llerbuntu(m): 1:53pm On Jul 27, 2012
oche_ejemb: Most people's gripe on here is the fact that the device is 'Made in China', another low quality China product. Again I ask, at the risk of sounding intensely moronic to your obviously superior intelligence, what isn't made in China (even if its designed in the US, or Korea or in Heaven)

Have you been to the factory they are made? How do you know its a 5 - 10 man assembly plant without any QA procedures? If you don't have these facts on any verifiable authority, are you not just a bad-belle hater envious of someone doing something with his life? Adepoju is trying to build a brand here, and is probably fully aware of the cheap spec tabs in the market, having actually gone to the same China they are made. He could have very much have done the same thing as the Otigba boys, imported a few thousand 75 dollar tablets, stuck his name on it if need be, and sold it for 100 dollars. If it spoils in one month, who cares, he's laughing at the bank.

I admit, maybe in comparison to other tablets, Inye might need to go down on the price, but how does he do this
a. without compromising the quality of the product (which is already under question from you guys without even seeing the damn thing)
b. while maintaining a profit such that it even makes any type of sense for him to remain in this line of business.
Clap for it!!!! u too make sense.

I guess you missed the part where somebody identified the tablet your "inventor/innovator" rebadged? http://www.ankaka.com/apad-2-android-22-tablet-pcresistive-touch-screen-wifi-3g-flash-101-800mhz-cpu-7-gsensor-camera_p47893.html

and i also suppose that as you accused tex of

oche_ejemb: "Have you been to the factory they are made? How do you know its a 5 - 10 man assembly plant without any QA procedures? If you don't have these facts on any verifiable authority, are you not just a bad-belle hater envious of someone doing something with his life?"
you have been there and have knowledge that proves contrary?

this is not patriotism, this is crass ignorance coupled with misplaced ideology.

You call what he is doing a brand? name one brand that does that model and is successful.

even zinox at least buys parts and assembles them here to specs.

what your hero is, for want of a better word, is a FRAUD. a fraud who buys substandard chinese tablets, rebadges them, misrepresent them to a gullible public that the product is a nigerian product and sells them for a hefty premium based on that sentiment.

how does he differ from the average obinna in aba market? other than the access he managed to get tp publicity. whats the difference?

what added value does he add to those tablets? after purchase what do you get from him?

If he needs considerable funding he should go get an importation loan from a bank! or is that not his business?

lynxnoon: well maybe for u Xperia guys but i flash recovery image on my Desire S more times dan i can count
. . . well d bootloader has to be unlocked and flashing is tru adb or fastboot . . . lol
lets get this thing clear. for recovery image, the files are in .img format.

boot.img, stystem.img etc etc.

i think there is usually four of em.. when you create a backup with Xrevovery or ClockworkMod, it creates the backup in this format.
usually you simply restore them, if thats what you get.

It never comes with a kernel/radio firmware. that must be flashed seperately.

to flash, you create an update.zip (custom rom) file using amend scripting or edify scripting. you then flash from xrec or CWM as appropriate

that also does not come with radio firmware. AT LEAST ON XPERIAS.
U CANNOT FLASH RADIO FROM THE FONE, HAS TO be with flash tool

otherwise you combine all as an .FTF file, which is how the os is officially circulated as an offline thing, to be flashed with Flashtool.

must be different on HTC sha

so you see why i said maybe he does not get the directions well. unless he is talking about a pre-rooted .FTF
which must be flashed with flash tool, cannot be that big and will contain stock radio firmware.

to go to a dev built ROM, he has to flash another Custom Kernel compatible with the ROM he is going to flash.

you are not going to restore a custom rom without a corresponding kernel.

matter of fact, it has nothing to do with root or pre-rooted bla bla bbla.

get the right radio, flash it with flashtool, boot into recovery and flash or restore the rom.

aieromon: I tire for these Sony developers and their large files. The ICS rom was 332MB and the flash tool was 125MB. Now they're telling me to download a prerooted GB OS cooked with recovery image for 555MB.
why dont you just flash JUST THE ROOTED KERNEL/FIRMWARE?

SOny Ericsson root methods are injected in the radio firmware nowadays na
there should be a DoomKernel for Xperia S na, or doomlord no dey reach that side?

i dont get your point about GB recovery image. u cant flash a recovery image, you have to flash a firmware with xrecovery or cwm, copy the image onto your sd card and then restore it through recovery as if you are the one who backed it up before.
The reason why you are downloading flashtool is that for some reason only those nuccas know, they refuse to release some firmware separately and always bundle it with flashtool.

be sure of what you are doing o bro.

Way it sounds you have to flash the firmware whilst on GB, before upgrading to ICS if im getting you right.

BTW, FOR JUST ROOTING, THE LATEST FLASHTOOL WILL ROOT YOUR PHONE JUST FINE WITHOUT ANY JUMPING UP AND DOWN.

which is why i suspect you dont get what the procedure is

EXAMPLES

wlan_rx
is wireless LAN receive. Turn off wifi.

musb_autosuspend_wake_lock
im pretty sure is a kernel powermanagement method to turn off power to the micro usb port and have any attached devices be placed in a power suspend mode. Probably most useful for the USB OTG support on this port.

alarm_rtc

is Real-time clock alarm. It isn't the alarm to wake you up, tho it could be used by that. It's more like a scheduler on your phone, to make sure it is not sleeping when an application needs it. "AlarmManager is a universal process that MANY apps use to update time, push you notifications, etc. In most cases, it is a necessity; in other cases, you should really check it out and disable/uninstall things that have invoked it too much."

vbus_tuna_otg
sounds like virtual bus for USB OTG devices. According to Franco this wakelock occurs when your "device [is] attached to the USB." From this I would take it to mean that if your GNex is attached to a computer via USB you will see this wakelock.

mipi_link
stands for Mobile Industry Processor Interface but I am unsure of what this does specifically. From googling it it seems highly related to the cameras. Maybe its how we can see a live feed of the camera from the device.

How to help:

Install BetterBatteryStats which will show you what the wakelocks are on your device.
If you don't know what a specific wakelock is doing. Google it. Don't just google the wakelock name verbatim. Use part of it. They are usually logically named. But most often they are shortened or turned into acronyms (there are so many in IT) which makes them cyptic.

Kernel wakelocks are low level/hardware wakelocks from the kernel. We can only reduce these by modifying the kernel or reducing the usage of a certain feature of the kernel. By researching these we can improve the battery consumption and performance of the Kernel.

Partial wakelocks are wakelocks from apps. These can be reduced by uninstalling or disabling features in software. We can talk about those here too though it shouldn't be the focus as the answer will be "Uninstall/Disable feature X and talk to the app author". Preferably we should talk about partial wakelocks from Google services like maps and latitude.
PhonesRe: Android, Anyone? Part II by 4llerbuntu(m): 8:12am On Jul 25, 2012
What is a Wakelock?
A wakelock is a software method for applications to control the power state of your device. The purpose of a wakelock is in its name, to lock your device in an awake state keeping the CPU running and preventing it from entering Deep Sleep (Think of a music app or video player). A wakelock can also cause your device to turn on (think syncs or notifications).

A poorly coded application can acquire a wakelock and not release it, causing your device to remain on.

A partial wakelock means the CPU is ON, but the screen is OFF.
A full wakelock means the CPU and Screen are ON. (we don't really need to worry about this)
PhonesRe: Android, Anyone? Part II by 4llerbuntu(m): 8:09am On Jul 25, 2012
Using undocumented APIcalls to the batteryinfo service, BetterBatteryStats is able to monitor process stats, network usage, and wakelock stats on your Android 2.2- or 2.3-equipped device.

http://www.xda-developers.com/android/tune-your-androids-battery-life-with-betterbatterystats/

Wakelocks statistics are good indicators if the battery drain is high when the phone is off and supposed to sleep. Android Froyo provided battery history to spare parts and BetterBatteryStats [APP] adds battery history back to Gingerbread.

A good place to start is to unplug your phone and switch the screen off for a few hours. Then look at Better Battery Stats "Since unplugged" and see what apps/processes have prevented the phone from sleeping. Don't go through the whole list, check the top1-2 first and iterate till there are no values through the roof.
PhonesRe: Android, Anyone? Part II by 4llerbuntu(m): 5:26pm On Jul 24, 2012
A high battery drain is often a limiting factor for a great user experience.

With BetterBatteryStats you can analyse the behavior of your phone, find applications causing the phone to drain battery while it is supposed to be asleep and measure the effect of corrective actions:

- Spot drainers based on detailed information about the root cause
- Use the online Knowledge-Base to find how to reduce or remove the wakelocks
- measure the effect of actions to reduce drain
- detect changes in the awake/sleep profile and quickly find the causes (rogue apps)

In other words BetterBatteryStats helps you to get the best out of your Android smartphone.

User Reviews
Gives you detailed information on whats going on in the background. Exactly what I needed to find and get rid of the application which is draining the battery unnecessarily, instead of using power saving apps. Purchasing this app just to support the developer.

I've been loosing around 15% of my battery life with my phone in my pocket supposedly doing nothing. I charged my phone, unplugged it and let better battery watch what was going on. An hour later I discovered that my phone was only in deep sleep 60% of the time, mostly because MLB At Bat was waking my phone up to check scores all the time. Killed that app and I've got my phone up to around 95% deep sleep time and around 5% of the battery used per hour in idle. All in a few hours. Thanks Better Battery. Warning. The app and manual are both full of serious "Geekspeak". It is not friendly to "Normals". If you are not a geek get a friend to help you figure out this app. Charge your phone, let Better Battery do it's thing for a few hours, then go to your friend and let your friend figure out the results of your test.

Helped me figure out that a wakelock called fuel_alerted was keeping my phone from deep sleep. Impossible to find without this, googled it and i found out that i had to physically pull out my battery and put it back in. That simple! Now phone lasts waaaaaay longer! P.s. Add that to the knowledge base for the program. Other people had this problem as well. Quick fix but in the meantime no deepsleep for ur phone which will crush ur battery even if u arent using the phone. Money well spent.

samfibby: In order word u want to set up a point 2 point link, if i m not mistaken. Get two radio cards (AP), set up one as AP-WDS (Access Point-wireless distribution service), let the network mode be in bridge mode, configure a unique SSID for both ends, make suke sure dhcp is running on the end with internet connection. On the side that needs internet connection, set the wireless mode as station, make sure you use the same channel or they wont connect. If set up is intact, u should search and align your antenna os device. Good luck.

so u said a lot without actually communicating grin grin grin

[In Windows 8] you have this shiny tablet interface, and you sit and you use then you press the wrong button then it slaps you in the face and Windows 7 is back. And then you think OK, this is familiar, so you’re kind of getting into it and whack [Windows 8 is back].”

My only source of concern for him is that he is taking too much for granted, like assuming we are all retards or something. China is not some esoteric place anymore, countless pple go there for this same business. so what is the point in trying to do business at a price point thats patently ridiculous and will only lead you to fail.

if you doubt me i suggest you try googling these chinese tabs. matter of fact, there are marketers even here on NL who sell these same products. one tried to sell me one ainol with IPS screen for 40k. as far as i can tell, he definitely must either have sold it for less, or is still with it!!!

when you want to buy these tabs even without going to china, you get unit prices online ranging from $120-200 . and as usual, the more quantity u buy, the cheaper it is, going as low as $80. and believe me those specs are mere words on paper, whatever specs you want you will get at ridiculous price points.

there is a large market waiting to be cornered there, you go hunting for a decent quality manufacturer, you get the products at a compelling price point. you import and be smart. with your branding, double the cost as profit makes sense AND UNDERCUTS EVERYBODY GENUINELY.

how can you intend to sell chinese tablets for $350 when even the chinese themselves will sell same for $150.

Add the fact that the quality is actually hit and miss. there is no support for them after purchase

KNOWLEDGE AND BUSINESS ACUMEN ARE NOT MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE

Oh and BTW, i think that BBC article was done in 2009. obviously this dude is one of us in this forum hence the periodic revival.

DUDE GET A LARGE STORE, GET SOME PUBLICITY, EMPLOY ONE OR TWO SOFTWARE ENGINEERS WHO DEVELOP FOR ANDROID WHO CAN ACTUALLY WORK ON THOSE TABS, TWEAK AND IMPROVE THEM, SO AT LEAST YOU CAN CLAIM TO HAVE R & D AND PUSH MINOR UPDATES.

AND SELL THOSE THINGS UNDER YOUR NAME FOR MUCH MUCH LOWER PRICES. COUNTLESS CV AND ALABA BOYS WILL BE WILLING TO BE SUB-DEALERS.
how can your tab be more expensive than a BB Playbook!!!! undecided undecided undecided

For funding, if you are indeed business savvy, you will get it. its not simple, but your primary problem is being actually able to sell them. if you can demonstrate that, you will get investors

take chinese fones as an example. despite those mad specs why have they not competed with the iphone? grin grin grin

remmyz: to the best of my knowledge, Apple does nt have a manufacturing plant. All they do is develop there software nd hardware specification. Foxcom is d name of the company where ipad is been manufactured in china. Adepoju also designed his own tablet which was manufactured in china also, preloaded with android os and some locally made application.
iNTERESTING DEBATE.

but point of correction, adepeju did not design any tablet.

adepeju went to china and got a manufacturer to brand a generic tablet in his own name for a fee.

The comparisons with Apple and Google do not hold water. Apple spends Millions of dollars on R& D. they design every bit of their products and require the manufacturers to produce it to strict specifications.
matter of fact they have also had to invest millions in production lines in china even though they don't own the damn factories, just to get the products they want, how and when they want.

For software, at least you are not going to claim china codes and produces IOS?

and there is very excellent support after sales for those products and a thriving independent developer community

so wherein lies the comparison?

Android is open source. anyone can build the OS for hardware provided you got drivers and know what you are doing.
in this case there is no indication that our "genius" know the slightest about being a dev, meaning he know nada about the products really, he is simply marketing. which is not a bad thing!!!!!!

Truth is we nigerians know nothing about being patriotic and supporting ourselves. everyone praising the guy or condemning him is just missing the point. this is not innovation, this is plain misguided capitalism enshrouded in "made in naija" cloak.

i don't condemn him, countless entrepreneurs do this already. i know people who print bibles in china, its 40% cheaper even after importation. if they got media and branding would you call that innovation?.
PhonesRe: Firefox Mobile OS Breaks Cover, Coming In 2013 by 4llerbuntu(m): 2:53pm On Jul 23, 2012
This is meant to be an OS for featurephones, not smartphones.

Not an altenative to iOS or Android or MeeGo, but to things like Nokia's S40 that run on the sub-$100-unsubsidized devices which make up 90% of the world's cellphones.

Cellphone operators are EXTREMELY interested in this, as a way to bring into the data market the BILLIONS of customers who cannot afford a $500 smartphone.
