Well, they say beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, hence, perhaps the beholder(the responsible Sun journalist) is as blind as a bat.

To be fair though, the Sun has never proclaimed that the "Sun girl" represents beauty.

One of the things that amazes me about the clueless anti-American mob is their complete and abject disregard of the truth bordering on an allergy to facts.

Someone just suggested that the US military is made up of mainly immigrants.Yet,in 04/05 for instance,73% of US military recruits were whites. That is proportional to their composition of the general adult populace.

Another suggested that "poor" people are overrepresented in the military when in actual fact, they are underrepresented.Recruits are disproportionately from the middle-class.Its also important to note that recruits are generally better educated than their peers of a similar age.

For your argument to make sense, lets make some assumptions, most of them beyond the realm of rationality.

Lets assume that all current known Iraqi reserves will be sold with exclusively US oil companies as joint venture partners(in reality, even now,the Iraqi Govt doesn't allow this). The proportion of gross revenue that goes to such a partner,it varies depending on the contract, taking Nigeria as an example typically won't exceed 15%(its likely to be even less).

Lets assume profit margins of 30%(I'm being extremely generous). . . .revenues of $2.1 trillion, using the $14trillion you used, will generate profits of $630bn.Given that the Iraq war would have cost far more than that,I also adopted extremely generous assumptions, the Iraq war won't have a net financial benefit for the US from the oil sector.

The Iraqis will have to grant US oil companies exclusive rights for eternity for the above to even apply. They haven't done it now,you have to be a bit blinkered to believe they will ever do so.

We used current market value,US oil companies would have had to have known that oil prices(which were $30 p/b in '03)would come up to this level and never go lower than this until Iraq runs out of oil.

In summary, that aspect of the 'oil for war conspiracy' is absurd, imbecilic and hopelessly uninformed.

I noted that none of the US Govt officials will derive any pecuniary benefits from the contracts. You mentioned Cheney's stock options-these are the same stock options in respect of which he is legally bound to hand over any profits therefrom to charity.I repeat,Cheney derives no personal financial benefit from contracts awarded to Halliburton.

As for the Laura Bush aspect,I am still awaiting evidence of what these links are.Won't be any different from the horse hockey conspiracy theories you hear about politicians
Foreign AffairsRe: Obama Barrs Mu'slims by 4Play(m): 5:40am On Jun 19, 2008
There is nothing that irritates me more about Obamaniacs than their persecution complex. They seem to cringe at the very thought that anyone will dare impugn Obama's name.

The reality is that mud slinging, albeit inappropriate, is a normal part of the political process. We have seen McCain accused by the NYT of having an extra-marital relationship, his emotional stability was questioned and his wife's past dredged up.It was once claimed that he fathered a child for a black woman.

John Kerry had to deal with Swift boats.

If he becomes President, worse will come. Clinton was said to have faked the suicide of some fellow with details about his financial impropriety. As for Bush, where can one even start with the mudslinging he receives.

Dis Guy:
99.02% of those companies are American companies!!!
some linked with Laura bush, Cheney, retired military general etc
The gaping flaw in the above should be obvious. Some American companies have benefited from Iraq but so have Russian,Iraqi,French,German companies,e.t.c

Your argument is founded on untruths-that people like Cheney and Laura Bush(I don't even know how she is linked) will incur some pecuniary benefits from contracts awarded to US companies. That is pure bullocks.

Your claim that "almost every thing" is supplied by US companies is laughable.Perhaps, almost everything to US troops but the Iraqi Govt regularly awards contracts to Iranian companies, never mind their American counterparts. For instance,Orascom(the Egyptian company)got the most lucrative telecoms contracts.Turkish and other Middle-Eastern companies have lucrative deals in the oil sector.

Even if the Iraqis awarded all such contracts to the US,common sense will tell you that a $100bn economy like Iraq's won't produce enough profits to cover for a war that costs $100bn a year for a nation like the US with a $14 trillion economy. The entire Iraqi economy is smaller than that of New Jersey.
Pastor, here is the bottom line, if Nigeria decides tomorrow to stop selling oil to America, trust me within months Nigeria will be labeled with a negative and false accusation, they will say your leaders are abusing the citizens, starving them, there are graduates on the streets with no job, there is no electricity, this human abuse, this is slavery, this is oppression, all kind of atrocities will be heaped against the Nigerian leaders. The atrocities are not wrong, but why is America not out there talking about it now? Oil! When the flow stop, the seal on the mouth also come off and they talk till there is enough legitimized reason why Nigeria should be attacked so they can save the people. Are they blind, can they not save us now if they want to? Open your eyes Pastor, take off your blindfold.
Firstly,if Nigeria decided instantly to stop selling oil to the US,such an economically suicidal act would justify any such opprobrium rained on the Nigerian leadership. Beyond that,Saddam never made such a decision to stop selling oil to the US so I don't see how your mangled analogy arises.

Pastor PLC:
US invaded Iraq because of oil, still non of you can prove it. I have not read anything from you guys to prove it. It's just false assumption. Why didn't Saddam Hussein cry out that he had no nuclear weapon when America was accusing his country. He pretended he had it only to intimidate the rest of Asian countries with his sham claim. Even when UN came to Iraq to search, he didn't give them full access. He only took them around to places he liked. Now, where is the nigger? He died shamefully with his 2 sons.
I remember a TV debate back in 2003 in which someone asked a proponent of the oil conspiracy theories how precisely a war in Iraq will benefit the US.The conspiracist was stumped for words. The US could easily cut a deal with Saddam for oil,he was very much open to that, and let him be. Listening to these people, you would think Iraq sells oil to the US at a discount.

Karim Benzema was outstanding for France in the qualifiers thus he has shown that he can deliver on the international stage.

Toulalan was the 3rd best player in France's 07/08 player of the season awards and you are claiming he is "ok" because you haven't seen news reports linking him with other clubs.I guess the latter is a more valid of judging a player than actually watching him perform.

Of course, the Boumsong selection was daft but even then,Sagna and Clichy haven't done enough to warrant a selection in the French squad in any case.Sagna is no better than Reveillere who didn't even make it. Which coach will pick Clichy ahead of Abidal and Evra? If those 2(Sagna and Clichy) had actually performed for France when they had the opportunity, they would have had a stronger case.Don't tell me that Clichy's underwhelming performances for France's 2nd string side make him a viable candidate for the 1st side. You are effectively saying that a player should be selected for the national team on the basis of his club form irrespective of his performances for the national side.

Cesc played poorly in '06 when he was selected ahead of Xavi and thus,Aragones reversed his decision.Again, like above, should Aragones pick Cesc merely on the basis of his club form when he has failed to transfer that same form to the national level? That will be like picking Del Piero for the national team on the basis of his club form when he keeps underperforming for the national side.

in a 4-4-2 Xavi (more experienced and more accomplished) plays Cesc's role, so he doesn't get a look in.
Cesc doesn't get a look in?Cesc was benching Xavi for the starting place but after his poor performances,Spanish media outcries prompted Aragones to reinstate Xavi and bench Cesc.

Your statement about Toulalan should have stopped at "I do not know about Toulalan".Toulalan is not "ok" for Lyon,Toulalan has been sublime for them.

Clichy and Sagna have had a few games to impress for France and they failed woefully so I can't blame Domenech for dumping them.Of course, you can always argue that they should have been given more opportunities-Gomis did impress in his 1st game and turned into a disaster-but when you consider that outstanding defenders like Mexes and Escude didn't even make it,you have to take every opportunity you get in the French squad.

As for Nasri, again,if you didn't get to see Toulalan's perofrmances in Ligue 1,I dout you have seen Nsri that much.Ever since his injury,he hasn't been the same and I'm not surprised he didn't perform for France.

I think you are missing the most important point.Sagna and Clichy have played for France before and were crap. Both have never performed for France.

As for Nasri,is his mediocre performances over the last few months for Marseille also a reflection of Domenech's incompetence?

Flaimini had a better season than Toulalan ? grin That's a nice way of saying you haven't got a clue regarding Toulalan.

Cesc excels whenever he comes on? Its precisely because he hasn't always performed for Spain that he lost his starting shirt in the 1st place. You may not have realised it but these nations actually had games before the Euros in which each player's suitability was assessed.

Spain plays 4-4-2,are you saying it doesn't fit Cesc?

Are you saying Marco Van Basten misses the kind of glaring opportunities that Luca Toni misses so casually? Luca Toni and Klose have been embarrassments, the latter doesn't have Saudi Arabia to score against.

What have you to say about another Bundesliga flop,Mario Gomez? grin

@Hustler
What is Luca Toni doing in that team that Pippo Inzaghi couldn't have done?

On the other hand,Panucci has done better than I expected. Many thought his presence was solely down to Donadoni not having the balls to drop his ex-Milan teammate.

Evra benched for Abidal? Maybe the Evra that played 2 of the 3 games for France was another Evra.I wonder where Clichy who should be fighting for the same position is. . . .surely he isn't watching Euro 08 on TV?

Utd have a lot of English players and at least 3(Rooney,Hargreaves and Rio)would have started for England. That England didn't qualify is not a bad reflection on those 3.

Please,in what way are the likes of Sagna and Clichy France's best performers? When have they ever performed for France or you just plucked that claim from the ether? Your latest signing-Samir Nasir-supposedly the New Zidane, according to rubes who haven't got a clue-barely managed 20 minutes for France against Italy.

Your best player-Cesc Fabregas-can't even win a starting place for his country.

Fergie won domestic titles with one club only? You mean Aberdeen(3 league titles) and Man Utd(10 league titles) are the same club? Thanks for clarifying that. . . .I never knew Scotland and England were one and the same.

Fergie won the European Winners Cup with Aberdeen, defeating Bayern Munich and Real Madrid on the way.4 European trophies(2 UCLs and 2 Euro Winners Cups). What have Aberdeen achieved since then?

PS:Isn't it funny that many of Arsenal's top players last season are bench warmers-RVP is behind Dirk Kuyt for Holland and Cesc Fabregas is a bench warmer for Spain.Flamini,Clichy,Almunia and Sagna didn't even make the French squad

What do you make of Donadoni? He is chopping and changing the side like a mad chef. . . he doesn't seem to have a clue what his strongest 11 is and seems to be supine when faced with player power, how do you explain the mysterious presence of Matrix in the starting line-up against Holland?

I think Di Natale has been maltreated,he was quite lively against Holland and compared to Cassano,is a far better choice to start alongside the hapless Toni.

If Italy had a better manager, they can still win the Euros even with this current squad.I still don't understand why someone like Santocroce didn't make the squad.
SportsRe: European Nations Cup 2008 Discussion Thread by 4Play(m): 9:53pm On Jun 17, 2008
Does Dayokanu still think Luca Toni is one of the best strikers on the planet?

As for Fergie winning "only" 2 UCLs,these mooncalves should remember that Fergie took over at a time when English clubs were banned from Europe.Utd first competed in the UCL in the 93/94 season,in the 14 years since then,he has won 2 UCLs. . . that is fantastic given that he has also won 10 league titles since '93.In addition,he won the European Winner's Cup,beating Barcelona in 1991.

Hitzfeld had 6 years at Dortmund and 7 years at Bayern and won 2 UCLs in that time.In the 90s,the EPL was clearly inferior to the major continental leagues and thus competing in Europe was always a herculean task.

Could it not be that the prestige is a product of an impeccable record of achievement? Why isn't same "prestige" attached to other universities. The prestige is as a result of a history of success which the other free universities haven't matched.

The more pertinent question is why you want to handicap those US universities by tying them to the state's purse strings.
Foreign AffairsRe: Expectationz From Obama by 4Play(m): 4:53pm On Jun 15, 2008

The "value and prestige" attached to US universities is not mere hot air.For instance, how do you explain their dominance in Nobel prizes? Is that also a question of perception? How many have your free universities produced?

Japan and Singapore don't offer free tertiary education either.

Foreign AffairsRe: Expectationz From Obama by 4Play(m): 4:22pm On Jun 15, 2008
@SkyBlue

A graduate from say China or India who wants to study abroad will choose the fee paying nations of the US and the UK before considering other nations that offer tuition free education. That is testament to the quality of education offered.

The key reason why the US has the best universities is that their universities are not tied to the public purse.Spending as a percentage of GDP is one of the highest in the developed world.

Its impossible in this day and age to offer world-class education which is "free". That is why many nations, recently France and Germany, are conducting reforms to move away from free tertiary education.
Foreign AffairsRe: Expectationz From Obama by 4Play(m): 4:06pm On Jun 15, 2008
@SkyBlue

As things stand today,US tertiary education(which is the main part that is not free) is undoubtedly the best on the planet. The US continues to produce the great bulk of Nobel laurettes and a high number of patents.

Its not whether services are free that is crucial but the quality of the service. Countries like Russia and Gabon offer free education but people are not queuing up to attend their universities, same applies to many in Europe.
