Foreign AffairsRe: Israel Exchanges 2 Dead For 5 Alive: The Folly Of Foreign Policy by 4Play(m): 5:50pm On Jul 21, 2008
I think you have to be obscenely naive to believe that because Israel and Hezbollah carried out negotiations to exchange mostly corpses ,that proves that the conflict can be resolved by mere negotiations.

There is another odd element to their argument. They seem to suggest that the negotiations somewhat prove that Hezbollah can be dialogued with. However,if that is the case for Hezbollah, one can equally say that same applies to the Israeli Govt, which begs the question, why one would take this occasion to select Israel for special criticism over its perceived unwillingness to pursue negotiations.
Foreign AffairsRe: Footage Shows Israeli Soldier Shooting At Captured Palestinian by 4Play(m): 5:25pm On Jul 21, 2008
B'Tselem's footage shows a prisoner who has been blindfolded with his hands tied behind his back.
The man, who was protesting against Israel's separation barrier, made no attempt to escape, yet a gun was pointed in his direction and a shot fired.
B'Tselem claimed he was hit with a rubber bullet and suffered bruising.
But there is no evidence that the man, identified as Ashraf Abu Rahman, 27, was actually hit.

Sky's Middle East correspondent Dominic Waghorn said the bullet hit the ground in front of Abu Rahman and he was injured slightly in the toe.

The incident took place on July 7 in Nilin, a West Bank village where regular protests are held against the barrier by stone-throwing demonstrators, the human rights group said.

The Israeli army described the incident as serious and launched an investigation.
Speaking from Jerusalem, Waghorn added: "The point is, this is showing up what Palestinians say happens all the time on the West Bank, them being abused either by Israeli settlers or the soldiers themselves."

Foreign AffairsRe: Obama - The Audacity Of Vanity by 4Play(m): 5:06pm On Jul 21, 2008
People keep referring to JFK as if he was an outstanding President,in reality, much of the preening coverage he gets is because of the brutal and vivid manner in which he was assassinated at the prime of his life. This was the same JFK that mis-handled the 'Bay of Pigs' invasion and Soviet-US relations ,launched the Vietnam war and didn't have the courage to introduce a stronger civil rights legislation.

Even then,JFK did have considerable foreign policy experience and comparing his resume to that of Obama smacks of gross historical illiteracy.

I selected this quote as one illustration of how the anti-Israel mob tramples the truth in order to score cheap points:

do you realise that american funding on just israel accounts for about one thirds of their whole foreign aid?
The Bush administration's foreign aid budget for fiscal year 2008 was $20.27bn, Isreal's 'share' was $2.4bn,hardly 'one-thirds'. . . . .unless you are lucabrasi and the facts don't matter.

Israel did also have to hand over the remains of about 200 Hezbollah fighters
Part of the swap included Israel handing over the remains of some 199 fighters.

maybe not more but I suspect the real statistics of cheating both ways are higher than what we know since it's usually done nicodemously
There was a study done on married couples in Africa where one partner was HIV positive and the other isn't. Essentially, only one partner having HIV gives a decent indication of who was cheating on the other.

They had expected to find that where only one partner had HIV,it will almost exclusively be the male. Instead, they were stunned to find out that the difference wasn't much.

We can't even say that people have chosen to give Hezbollah "the benefit of doubt" for there is no doubt as to Hezbollah's stated objective-its policy objective(the destruction of Israel) has been stated with such clarity and emphasis as to dispel any doubt.

People who choose to convince themselves that Hezbollah's raison d'etre are 'injustices' are entitled to their delusions but in Israel,Israelis have to confront reality as it is.

In the light of Hezbollah's stated ambitions,to what extent can 'dialogue' achieve much? No lucid person will demand of a people that they handle a group sworn to their destruction with sympathy and understanding. Besides, dialogue entails a two-way conversation,in the absence of any indication on the part of Hezbollah of a willingness to reach an amicable solution, the question of Israel's refusing to engage in dialogue is rendered redundant.

Hezbollah's willingness to dialogue is limited to peripheral matters-exchanging bodies,prisoners,ceasefires,e.t.c. Crucially,Israel has made no claims to Lebanese territory. The idea that Israel has to negotiate its own destruction beggars belief.

Finally you bring up what could be a valid point - cost benefit analysis. Has this been done? that is the question to be asked, not simply assuming that the aim of this jet is to feather someone's personal nest. The jet may be needed, but is spending the money on a jet the best way to go about it? Now that is a cogent question requiring an answer.
We don't know how true this news report is. However,if one is to undertake a cost-benefit analysis of the financial implications, you will require a suspension of the ability to reason to even countenance any suggestion that buying a plane is a cost-effective measure for RCCG.

If the plane costs $20m and we must factor in the operational costs of the plane, lets take a conservative estimate of $1m per annum,a quick mental arithmetic will demolish any pretense that this plane offers net-financial benefits.

Supposing the life span of the plane is 40 years, one must demonstrate that the intended users of the plane would have otherwise have to spend more than $60m on air travel in that same time period.

A man has admitted exchanging a $100 gas card for sex with a hooker.
Court records uncovered by The Smoking Gun Web site show Kenneth Nowak was busted after an undercover cop caught him having sex with the call girl last Friday at a Days Inn in Fort Wright, Ky.
The 50-year-old Indiana man told cops he paid for the action with a card good for gas at Speedway gas stations, along with other unspecified "gifts."
"A local prosecutor noted that it was sad to see someone selling their body for gas," the Web site reported.
Angela Eversole, 34, who sold her body for just 25 gallons of juice, was hit with a prostitution rap and also charged with doing business without an occupational license. Nowak was charged with promoting prostitution.

A trillion dollar meal:
Consumer prices have more than doubled every month this year, in some cases doubling every week. A conservative estimate provided by Robertson Economic Information Services, a southern African consultancy, says that prices are now 3 billionfold greater than seven years ago--that is right: billion. The exchange rate is currently an astronomical 90 billion Zimbabwe dollars to one U.S. dollar. Furthermore, three zeros were removed from the currency a few years ago when new limited-time bank notes were issued, so the inflation is actually even worse.

When I first went to Zimbabwe back in 1996, US$1 would buy you just Z$8--a depreciation of exchange rate of perhaps 10 billionfold over twelve years. A decade ago, Z$500,000 would have bought you a house; today, it cannot buy you anything.

In Zimbabwe today, Z$50 billion will buy about two loaves of bread.

Incredibly, the situation on the ground is even worse than any available data can reflect. Inflation numbers are almost meaningless, with some reports showing that prices triple now on a daily basis, and for some food items, prices double hourly. Hyperinflation is now at or beyond the status of the post-World War I Weimar Republic and post-World War II Hungary, the worst recorded inflations in history.

Joshua Kipuru (not his real name because he is concerned about reprisals for criticizing the government) told me that he gave up trying to get cash at his bank in Harare last Wednesday because the lines were too long and moved too slowly. In the end, he bought groceries with his debit card, which remarkably still works. The card, he explained, maxes out at just under Z$10 billion. So he had to run it seventy-four times because his food bill was nearly Z$730 billion. Buying anything is a "bizarre experience," says Lucy Chimtengwende from Bulawayo, who spent US$12 on lunch yesterday, with the bill in local currency being an astonishing Z$1.1 trillion. The menu had no prices on it; prices are quoted and constantly changing. And if you want to pay by check, good luck. Most proprietors do not accept them, and those that do charge double the cash price because of the time it takes them to receive payment.

Above debt? Or you mean without debt. You can live within your means if you want to,it is just that societal pressures make you want to keep spending to 'keep up appearances'.

The idea of spending the greater part,if not your entire working life living on credit is ridiculous.

My eyes have seen things.

I have seen a doctor and his wife who literally live from hand to mouth despite the fat salaries.
Most people are deep in debt up to their eye balls and living pay check to pay check just because they want to look rich.
who are they deceiving?
I don't ride a benz or Jag and at the same time I don't spend sleepless nights wondering how to pay for them monthly.
A doctor mentioned off the cuff that his colleague came to borrow £40 from him.I might be making too much of it but it did sound awkward. You keep seeing people in highly paid jobs whining about bank overdraft charges. . . . how the hell did that become an issue in the first place for people in such positions?
