oldie:Why must people misrepresent their opponent's position in order to make a point? Obama's problems reside in the fact that his so called "spiritual mentor"-someone he made part of his campaign organisation- is a race baiter. His campaign is predicated on his ability to transcend race and unite the nation yet he is so closely associated with a man and church that hardly represents those unifying ideals. And what happens to the over-hyped American first amendment?Has he been indicted or prosecuted for it? Nobody is saying he can't legally say what he is saying. His entitled to his views and people are entitled to say what they want about those views. The funny thing about these Obamaniacs is that these were the same people that tried to tarnish Hillary for Ferraro's comments-they are not even in the same league. Obama was at the forefront in the bid to get Imus fired for saying "nappy headed hos". What would they say if Hillary's "spiritual mentor" was found saying similar things from a Caucasian or Latino perspective?Imagine the uproar if Hillary attended a church for 20 years whose main pastor engaged in such incendiary remarks. McKren:Mr Redford, you plumb new depths of illogic everyday. The Bin Ladens didn't bomb America,Osama Bin Laden did. Now,you just condemned the politics of "guilt by association" while engaging in some of that yourself.Suddenly, every member of the enormous Bin Laden family is somewhat guilty of OBL's actions. These tenuous business links-for instance,a relative of Osama had a US representative who invested in a Bush business concern-are suddenly held up as the logical equivalent of Obama's relationship with Rev Wright. If one were looking for something similar with Obama's situation,I can think of Bush speaking at Bob Jones University,a University that at the time, prohibited inter-racial relationships. |
@akinalabi If you comb through anybody's record, you will always find faults. You are nitpicking Jose's tactical errors,do you know how many times he has salvaged a situation before? Name one manager without instances of tactical errors. Do you remember when Fergie couldn't figure out what to do with Veron?Played him on the right,Scholes on the left, with Butt and Keane in the centre.Remember where we finished that season?3rd and trophyless. Whatever people say,you can't compare Jose's record with Grant. |
@Somze You just dey stupid. You have gone from saying I modified "all your comments" to modify "those 2 lines". Even the error I made initially ,Ronaldo taking 6 as opposed to 5,was corrected in the post-script. If anything,it buttressed my initial point. Why are my here arguing with someone who claimed that half of Ronaldo's goals in the EPL last season were penalties? Given that Ronaldo scored 17 goals in the EPL and Utd were awarded only 5 pens,Ronaldo must have scored more than 160% of Utd penalties. |
@Somze Don't be stupid. The only modification I have are the 2 "Post-scripts" I have added. I have noticed you are very confused, let me make my points clear again: Ronaldo scored 23 goals in total last season, minus the 5 penalties he scored,he has 18 goals without penalties. In the league,Ronaldo scored 17 goals in total, minus the 4 penalties,he has scored 13 goals without penalties. If the above isn't clear enough for you,you need help. |
So because Jose had a poor start to the season, people are claiming he couldn't have turned things around.Fergie and Wenger have had poorer starts to their seasons. If they had a boss like Roman, they too would have been sacked. Mind you, they never had to deal with all the nonsense that Jose had to deal with at Chelski with players being imposed on him and constant speculation about his future.Fergie and Wenger would have resigned if they found themselves in this position. Every team has poor run of form.It can come at anytime;mid-season,late in the season or at the beginning of the season. So because Jose's poor form came at the beginning of the season, suddenly he couldn't turn things around? This is the same mentality that people used in questioning whether Utd will finish in the top 4 when we had such a poor start at the beginning. |
somze:How can you be asking the same question I have answered. He scored 4 from the penalty spot,I believe Saha took the other one(Saha stopped taking pens after the Celtic debacle). Ronaldo's record is better than any midfielder in the EPL. There was a place you alluded to Utd getting more advantageous decisions in the EPL than in Europe. That's nonsense. We are awarded more pens in Europe per game than in England. PS:Ronaldo scored 17 goals in the EPL.You don't even know your facts and you are debating Ronaldo's record. |
somze:We are talking of penalties in the EPL,aren't we?If you are talking of the season in general,Ronaldo scored 18 without penalties Your man,Lampard, scored 11 goals in total in the EPL last season, about 3 of them were penalties. That leaves him with 8 goals without penalties. |
somze:Show me how many midfielders managed 13 goals without penalties in the EPL. PS:I said earlier that Ronaldo scored from 6 penalties last season,it was actually 5. |
@somze What's your point? The 17 goals he scored in the EPL,4 were penalties,is that half? Again, are you saying that in over 30 league games, neither Ronaldo nor any other Utd player was ever fouled in the opponents' 18 yard box? Utd were awarded 5 penalties in the EPL last season,Chelksi 4 and Arsenal 12.If you are saying all or most of our 5 penalties were underserved, you are effectively saying that Utd players were never fouled or were fouled only once or twice in 38 league games! If that isn't absurd, tell me what is. Apart from Arsenal,no team in the EPL even comes close to the amount of time our players kept the ball in the opponent's 18,yet you want us to believe that we were never fouled. We even shaded it ahead of Arsenal for ball possession in the opponent's 18.Find something else to complain about. |
somze:Ronaldo scored 23 goals last season,6 of which were penalties, that is hardly half. Are you saying that all 6 penalties amounted to cheating? So in effect,in more than 50 games last season,Ronaldo or any other Utd player was never fouled in the opponent's 18 yard box? As for diving, what is Drogba and Joe Cole known for? They too don't dive? |
@Cassiel Are you taking Somze seriously? This was the same person that said half of Ronaldo's goals last season were penalties! The last time they played Liverpool, look at the penalty they were awarded.Look at yesterday, everybody agrees Drogba was offside for the first goal, yet he is still talking.Maybe Chelksi bribed the ref too. |
somalian:America would have been hypocrites in this regard if either, they were buying oil from Sudan or buying from a nation that is conducting genocide in the manner of Sudan. Again, this is not about the West but the poor people of Darfur and South Sudan. What can we do to help them, simply chronicling all our anti-West stories won't stop a young African mother being raped at the hands of Arab marauders or watching her village razed with helicopters supplied by China. Is there any limit to people's anti-West paranoia? McKren: ![]() Its best to keep this kind of economic analysis to a pub or a private occasion. If you think the recession is due to the reasons you cited, you need enlightenment. Where does China get the US dollars it lends back to the US? |
Look, nobody likes what is going on in Darfur. But to think that by merely boycotting Olympics in China some how the animosity and hate that exists between Arabs and Black Africans in Sudan will evaporate is simply naive. Those who champion this operation drag China down are not ignorant of this fact either. They simply have other objectives.I think you fail to grasp the enormity of the situation in Sudan.Let me draw some parallels, hate and animosity exists between Jews and Arabs in Palestine,Catholics and Protestants in N.Ireland,Turks and Greeks in Cyprus,e.t.c.No where has any of these conflicts brought about death and destruction at the scale we have in Darfur. Take Palestine alone.150,000 Palestinians have died at the hands of Israel since 1922.That is about the same number as have died in Darfur since 2003. All people are saying is giving the sheer magnitude of the catastrophe unleashed on Darfurians,China should be able subject its economic interest to the overaching need to curtail the mayhem in Darfur by not obstructing efforts in the UNSC. Is it only China that needs oil?The Americans want oil too but they have deliberately decided to avoid Sudan as much as possible. It could have been easy for them to turn a blind eye and join the oil stampede in Sudan.Funny enough,if they had,you will be the first to attack them for this. This club of rich nations demonizing China for Human Rights, for many years refused to take any concrete steps that will benefit Africa. They like the resources in Africa, sit in committee of rich Nations and plot how to purchase the resources in Africa on the cheap. But when you ask them to invest they tell you your leaders are dictatorsLets be factual and avoid ignorant pub-style analysis. The West has invested close to a trillion dollars in Africa since 1950,China won't be coming close to that level anytime soon. The West remains by far the largest investor in Africa by any measure and our biggest trading partner. What Africa needs for development is trade and investment. The West provides the bulk of that. Most importantly, the West imposes far lower trade barriers on African imports, through exemption mechanisms like AGOA,compared to China. China is more interested in our raw materials,no people ever achieved industralisation or development through the mere export of raw materials and commodities.A Nigerian coy can export crude oil or iron ore to China with ease but try selling plastic or processed steel to China and you will be stung with a monumental trade tariff. When China started making in-roads in Africa, for all its imperfections it gave Africa an opportunity to bargain or choose who we want to do business with. This campaign to drag China down started by economist and TV pundits calling China's in-roads to Africa the second scramble for Africa, when that did not work they started talking of Darfur and Tibet using the media. If you are implying that Tibet and Darfur issues are to some extent, media manufactured, you are being extremely disingenuous. And by the way China has achieved a lot behind the scene in Sudan through diplomacy and they can only improve. Chinese resentment in Africa is not in the interest of Africans.China can do a lot more than they are currently doing. Lets be honest with ourselves, there are currently hundreds of thousands of Darfurians whose daily survival depends on foreign food aid.Who supplys most of that food aid?The West.Sino resentment isn't in our interest, nor is anti-Westernism. The problem is,many people love to see every issue through the prism of anti-Westernism.An issue concerning Arab-African conflict in Sudan and how China isn't helping is rapidly turned into an ignorant hare-brained lament about the evils of the West. |
nuzo:I don't support boycotting the Olympics because from a pragmatic standpoint,it achieves nothing.I support private individuals, whether individual athletes or tourists, taking such a position but not Govts. In many ways, the Olympics,as we saw in the case of S.Korea, can actually foster the opening of an authoritarian regime. presido1:What has KSA's human right's record to do with China abetting Sudan's slaughter of black Africans? Has what is happening in Sudan happened in Saudi Arabia in your living memory? |
@Banderas Why are you giving up so early? Well, there is still Debosky and Loyika to taunt I was checking out some old posts from last month.Couldn't help laughing. Where is Debosky with his Epistles on the parallels between this season and the 2003/2004 season? He has been missing in action lately. ![]() |
nateevs:Are you saying they can't beat Derby? If Liverpool were no longer in the UCL,they will be favorites for 3rd place.Arsenal have some tough fixtures to come.Away to Bolton and Utd ,home to Liverpool. . . . .its possible they won't win any of their next 3 games. |
People are saying that the Arsenal side are a year away from winning trophies. That's nonsense. This Arsenal side can't cope with the weight of expectations. They sauntered to the top position on the back of low expectations. They do best when you expect very little. Once the expectations started rising, cracks started appearing.Next season, they would face even higher expectations.Wenger would be forced to spend, instead of hiding under the excuse of building for the future. |
@Blue Be careful,United will be coming to the Bridge to end that unbeaten record. If there was any team that will end the record,it will be us. We can win the League at Stamford Bridge with an away win. |
rikkyjen:Let him say 100 Hail Mancs on NL before he gets his absolution. ![]() @nateevs The question is,what took you so long?1 point is nothing though. Arsenal finished with 67 points 2 seasons ago and 68 points last season.Have they reached their natural ceiling? Ever since they got to 63,they have found it hard to keep going.I feel they can get to 80 though,it will get them a 3rd place finish. |
Vieira:When we were here predicting it.Upheaval at Chelsa made it take longer,it was bound to happen. The gap will widen by the end of the season. Arsenal are in their worst run for 9 years! You are only 9 points ahead of Liverpool, better watch out your 3rd place.Though,I don't think Liverpool are that keen on getting 3rd place. |
For example, armoured vehicles originally manufactured by Land Systems (OMC), a South African subsidiary of BAE Systems, have been exported to Uganda and Indonesia despite concerns that armoured vehicles have been used to commit or facilitate human rights violations in both countries.Mr Redford,so this is the best you can come up with?Is the Ugandan Govt a rebel organisation? This is scraping the bottom of the barrel. You would think that if BAE Systems was so notorious for supplying rebel groups in Africa with weapons, you could come up with something better than the Ugandan Govt. Beyond that,I don't see anything wrong with the Govt of Uganda per se,its not conducting ethnic cleansing a la Sudan.Which begs the question, what does this have to do with the topic? |
Drogbaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!! ![]() |
Drogbaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa ![]() |
The ideal result in the Battle of 2nd Place taking place at Stamford Bridge is a draw. Its only sour grapes that will lead anyone to blame Bennett for Liverpool's loss.If you realise the furore going on in England since Ashley Coles's tantrums against Mike Reily at mid-week,Mascherano should have known better. Rooney must be ashamed of calling himself a striker. He is making up somewhat with his assists but he needs to be more clinical. He hasn't scored in the League at OT since October 2007 |
This title is ours! Our name is written on it,17th League title, its nothing to be mocked. Nani showed Rooney how to finish. If we had Carlitos earlier, since half-time,we could have won this by 5 or 6. |
What is Fergie doing playing one striker against 10 men? Is he Berti Vogts in disguise? |
McKren:This is how people in need of lobotomy reason.A topic about China's obstructiveness over Sudan is turned into a harebrained tirade about the West.Is it Westerners that are dying in Darfur? Are you a Black African or Chinese? McKren:I think you are either an amnesiac or being stupid. You lead the way by example, maybe I might stay off your case. |
McKren:There is a lot more China can do.They can stop obstructing efforts to punish Sudan through the UN Security Council. They can also stop selling weapons to Sudan.1.1m people have died in Sudan. Before there was China, there was BAE systems notorious for supplying arms to rebels in Africa. Nobody called Britain to it, UK and US have simply disorganized the Middle East and they have been at every world sporting event they qualified for till date. Think of Guantanamo BayMy friend,do you actually read up history or do you just watch Robert Redford movies? The US/UK have been at every world sporting event?Even a secondary school student will know better. BAE Systems notorious for supplying weapons to rebels in Africa? Name all these rebel groups that has given BAE such notoriety. Lets be honest with ourselves. All this putrid anti-Westernism is the refuge of the benighted.Who are the major suppliers of weapons to rebels in Africa? Its the likes of Ukraine,Serbia and the old Eastern Bloc. The West is actually very careful about who it supplies weapons to in Africa.Remember after June 12? The West canceled weapons sales to Nigeria, while China continued. You don't tell the suffering people of Darfur that China's actions must be seen in the light of Western companies' supply of weapons to Africa.Logically, what has one issue to do with the other? You seem more interested in exculpating China and attacking the West than bothering about what your fellow Africans are going through in Sudan. You are talking of Guantanamo Bay,more people are detained without trial in Nigeria than in the whole of Gitmo. Do you know about the tens of thousands in Chinese labor camps for no other offence other than challenging the Govt? You are saying China should only be called into account through the UN.How can you call a permanent member of the Security Council to account through the UN? |
@Poster People like us wey go only primary school,so we are not worthy of being your friends? ![]() |
eldee:When Dein was at the FA,Arsenal used to get home fixtures after every single European outing.Chelski were getting away fixtures all the time,Utd for most times. The FA kept assuring people that there was nothing untoward. As soon as Dein left, voila,Arsenal started getting away fixtures after Champions League games. ![]() |
