@watchung Good point.My proposed solution to the problem of costly tarrifs in the event of full deregulation is for the Govt to subsidise costs for private consunmers. While I am principally opposed to Govt subsidies,I feel it is the only way such a policy can gain public support. Industrial users of energy will get no such subsidy and will be charged the full cost. |
@chuckdee Totti does not need to go outside Italy to show his class.The Serie A is simply one of the best leagues in the world and his exploits there are sufficient to class him among the best. As for his playing for Roma,I don't think his applaudable loyalty to Roma FC minimises his quality.Roma are one of the biggest clubs in Italy and won the Serie A with Totti at the forefront.They have been one of the top 4 sides in the league.True,they have not done well in the Champions League but neither have clubs like Arsenal,yet few doubt Henry's talent . I think this is the product of the over-emphasis on the Premiership and La Liga.Few people watch other leagues and seem not to appreciate the quality in those other leagues. As for African players,I think we overestimate how good we are.The evidence is there in every World Cup with the performance of African teams |
@Bush Haters For the umpteenth time,another poll has come out showing the people of Iraq do not share the belief of most war critics,that they would be better off under Saddam and better off if the war was not conducted.-http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/iraq/article1530526.ece I suspect this poll will not get much play from those who think that Iraqis should still be living under Saddam. |
babasin:This is complete hogwash.The failure of the privatisation of British Rail does not give grounds to proclaim the futility of privatisation.British Rail was the sole failure out of hundreds of privatised British enterprises;British Steel,British Telecom,British Airways,British Gas,British Aerospace.e.t.c. It is immensely illogical to proclaim the failure of privatisation on the basis of a one-off failure while ignoring innumerable examples of success. I live in Britain and there is not a single major party that condemns these privatisations nor is there is any sense that people want to go back to the old days when they had to wait months for a phone line from British Telecom. |
@All Do all these figures posted here as the salaries of banking staff represent take home pay? Do you pay income tax?If 2 million Naira per annum is the salary,how much do you actually get paid? |

Fantastic victory! Boy,were Bolton crap today? ![]() They gave us so much space to operate .I thought the way we played was brilliant.The movement of the forwards was fantastic.Bolton did not not who to pick up.We moved with pace and the forwards were interchanging places I think in many ways,Larsson's departure helped.Larsson is a great footballer and no one can take away what he has done for football.However ,he is 35 and sometimes moves like he is pushing a wheel barrow.I doubt we scored more than a single goal whenever he started.In his abscence, the forwards were not really playing in fixed positions,they were free to interchange and they were all pacy Its a great victory but it was soured by Neville's injury.Hope he recovers early enough I thought that was the strangest penalty I have seen in along time. If that was a penalty,refs will be awarding an average of 3 or 4 pens a game .Its as strange as they come.Alan Smith also looked impressive in his cameo appearance @Loyika Dude,you are beginning to sound like a girl .Get me off your infantile mind.All that,just to respond to my post. Damn,you sure are one dumb waste of space. NB:Neville picked up an ankle ligament injury and will be out for 3 weeks |

Its enforceable if its properly executed.In Nigerian law,statutory law overides customary law. The problem is that many Nigerians don't leave a will.We don't like to contemplate the possibility of death. Imagine the reaction if a woman was to advice her husband to prepare a will |
Sista:Say what? That is one ugly ass brother .If this is what women consider good looking,I worry for the state of humanity ![]() That boy is not half as good looking as my humble self ![]() |

@Gooners What do you make of this?-http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2002390000-2007120633,00.html Apparently,Wenger is seriously contemplating signing ,Baptista,permanently |
An update on the Ronaldo story-http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2002390000-2007120651,00.html.I guess it was a case of much ado about nothing |
@topic Everyone knows that you can never satisfy a woman.Don't bother trying.Even a sacrifice of your life will be insufficient Woman can't survive without a diet of never ending misery.Your job is to manage that misery while keeping yourself happy. |
I think its clear I have won this debatejust speaking to myself ![]() |
I wouldn't call it the best course of action. The best course of action is to have the baby. However, I have learned to separate law from personal belief. Therefore, I can support the legalization of the procedure.
I think it is startling that you acknowledge that the unborn has a soul but you simultaneuosly support the legalisation of the termination of this soul possesing entity
Unless you have actual facts and statistical information to verify this statement it is irrelevant speculation. You are opining that just because you don't personally know of women who died from self induced abortion it's not a major problem. I expect better.
The worst estimate(from the US) of the number of women who died from illicit abortions is 5,000-http://www.feminist.org/courts/roe.asp.That link is from a pro-abortion activist groups.That is 5,000 from an average of 1.2 million abortions.This worst case stat-5,000- is relatively few compared to the 1.2 million abortions
And it is this power of CHOICE that every human being has the right to execute. When it comes down to it there is not such thing as PRO Life when it comes to abortion. Every mother has the right to choose, whether she aborts in a hospital or for herself.
These are statements of opinion not facts.
Perhaps you should revisit the purpose and intent of the law. I think where people are being mislead is that they believe that making abortion legal somehow empowers women to have abortions. Again, whether or not it becomes a legal procedure, it will be done.
No madame,the rate of abortions rises with its legalisation.The legalisation of abortions which you call for increases the rate of the termination of your acknowledged soul possesing entity http://www.euthanasia.com/usstat.html.Note the rise in the number of abortions from its legalisation(700,000 to about 1.4 million) within 7 years of its legalisation.
The focus of law is on the medical practitioner, as I said. He/She is the only one who would suffer a detriment professionally. Therefore, making it legal, only gives the doctor the peace of mind that if he/she is caught, there will be no legal repercussion.
Once again,that depends on how the law is framed in each country.You shouldn't make sweeping statements |
@trini
I'm just saying so because whether or not we agree, it's still being done, and from a christian standpoint our focus should be on saving the soul of both mother and unborn. If she dies then who wins?
If you agree that the unborn have a soul,it is rather incredible that you think the best course of action is to give the mother the licence to terminate the unborn. Let's not kid ourselves,the number of women dieing from illicit abortion is relatively few compared to the number of abortions performed in the nations where the procedure is legal.While I know women who performed abortions,I do not know any woman has died during the procedure. There are 2 interests here-that of the unborn and that of the mother.In the former,it has no say in the procedure and depends entirely on the latter.The latter can chose to perform or not to perform the procedure .The latter is more powerful than the former I fail to see why the instrument of the law should be used to protect the powerful at the expense of the weak. Am sure if a poll was done of people whose birth mothers contemplated aborting them,the overwhelming majority will express delight that the mother decided against it. |
@trini girl Touche. ![]() However,this debate is not about whether abortion is murder in the statute books. Its about the ethical issues sorrounding the practice. NB:The person who put up the thread is probably in Nigeria where the law is different from Tinidad |
@trini girl Give me a break.We were working under the presumption that there is a human to murder
@TayoD Who is guilty of "murder", the mother-to-be or the doctor? Maybe legally she's guilty of conspiracy to commit murder. The legal ramifications fall on the medical practitioner and not the mother of the child and she induces labour herself and aborts the child anyway.
You can't talk of conspiracy to commit murder if their is none to murder. If there was a murder charge that could be made,both the mother and the doctor will be charged |
@tmoni Ehmm,we have nothing to do with that gangster,Bugsy Siegel ![]() |

@twin What do you expect for 4,300 Naira per month?You must have known the channels you will get for that amount |
@Trini Girl You are making distinctions that are unknown to law. Go and hire an assasin to kill someone and see whether they won't charge you for murder ![]() |
@Tmoni They haven't subscribed to Sky Digital or Virgin Media yet Then they will stop complainingI will be paying £8(2,000 naira)to watch tommorow's match -Man Utd v Bolton.2,000 naira for 90 mins of football |
@Seun Nigerians are so gullible By the time they realise what is happening,it will be too late |
@Razorr If the cost of offering a product can only be recouped by charging a certain amount,only that amount can be charged.Arguably,the cost of running a satellite subscription biz is much higher in Naija than in the UK. If DSTV could offer a lower rate that won't hurt their margins,they would gladly do it since this would boost their customer numbers.The fact that they are not is probably testament to the fact that this is the lowest they can afford to go from a business standpoint(remember they are a biz not a charity). I suspect that this a case of a topshot(probably a politician) with Govt connections starting HITV and seeking to intimidate the competition while under the banner of offering lower cost alternative |
