@Loyika

Good to see you can address issues on their merits instead of your typical facile descent into making pejorative remarks grin

I do not ascribe much credibility to the reasons you give for your initial faux pas but I will let that rest.

Back to the Roonie issue;am still confident of Utd keeping him.It might sound a bit like narrow-minded short termist thinking but Madrid's contrasting football fortunes to Utd's will probably tip the balance in favor of Ronnie staying for now.

With Madrid going through their worst run in decades and Utd seemingly at the beginning of new optimistic era,Ronnie might feel Utd remains the best place for now.At the beginning of the season things must have looked different.He had failed to win anything significant at Utd and must have questioned the value of staying.

Also,its typical for players engaged in contract negotiations to have their associates circulate rumors about interests from other clubs.Witness new rumors sorrounding Lampard.It helps as a bargaining tool .

Ruudie, ask any of your friends in other parts of the world how much they pay for T.V. You'll be shocked at what you find. And they even watch as much as 300 channels.
We are suffering in this country o! So sad!  cry
Na lie.!DSTV offers value for money compared to what we pay here for simple football reasons

When I was in Nigeria,we paid 8,500 Naira and for that,you watched Serie A,La Liga,Premiership,Portuguese League,Champions League,FA Cup,Carling Cup,International games,Brazilian League .DSTV broadcast all the Premiership games (not all live) and you got to see the big teams regularly

In England for £42(10,000 Naira),you get to watch some Premiership matches,no Serie A(you have to subscribe to Setanta Sports) ,La Liga.If you want to watch more Premiership matches,you pay £80 for Sky Premplus for one season.Man Utd v Bolton is on Premplus.Even then some big games are not shown at all(Man U v Newcastle wasn't even televised.

FA Cup matches are shown anyway for free on the BBC.UEFA Cup matches are also shown for free so they don't form part of the subscription

What DSTV offers is a bargain and you won't realise it untill leave Nigeria.As for the the alleged 300 channels.There are probably about 100 and believe me most of them are unwatchable.Do you want to watch Indian TV?

@Akolowale

I do not see anything wrong with someone supporting a club because his countryman has joined it.

The problem is with glory hunters.A glory hunter,by definition, is hunting for glory.He starts to support a club because that club is experiencing great success with the attendant glory.Chelsea fans are notorious for this.

Supporting a club because your favorite national team player has joined it,is not glory hunting

The one who has impressed me is Alex Song,Rigobert's younger bros,he is a good midfielder.He is on loan at Charlton and his distrubution is excellent though am not sure Arse are lacking in creative players.

Aliadierre has been at Arse longer than Henry and if he hasn't made it since,he probably won't ever make it.You should simply sell him.He is more popular in England for his glamor model ex-girlfriend

Actually,Spurs fans are wrong because you are also on top in the women's league grin

Spurs in the Q/F of the EUFA Cup .Great match against Braga.Spurs have scored 23 goals in their last 7 games and are easily the best side to watch in the Premiership at the moment.You guys need to learn from them as to how to score goals(you could have really done with a Berbatov) cheesy

You are absolutely spot on.I cannot count how many times this has happened either to me or my friends.Many times we men want to end the relationship but we can't stomach crushing the girl's spirit so we prefer to lead her to a point where she will realise that the relationship is going nowhere and has to end .

I remember a girl telling me she couldn't carry on with my friend in Nigeria and had to dump him.I was chuckling cos he had been complaining to me months earlier that the girl wasn't getting the message that he is no longer interested

@Christino

I don't think at the moment,Owen is overrated.If anything,he is now underrated and the references you made to his time at Madrid,illustrate that.

However,shortly after the World Cup in 1998,he certainly was .For a brief period the English media was going overboard in praising him and in some instances comparing him to Pele .I remember when he scored a hatrick against Newcastle in Liverpool's 4-1 win at St James,the Times headline was "All On His Owen".

In some ways he was a better player then than now cos his recurrent hamstring injuries had not started.Then he was full of pace and running.Now he is a much more intelligent striker and a fox in the box kind of striker.

There was some debate in his first season(97/98) as to whether his best role was as a striker or a winger because of his pace.I don't think he has fully fufilled his potential but he is still one of the best strikers of his generation .
BusinessRe: Obj Comissions Power Plant: Improved Electricity Supply? by 4Play(m): 1:56am On Mar 15, 2007
@debosky

Having $44billion in foreign reserves improves your attractiveness for investment.By analogy to human beings,your financial position looks better if you have a good bank balance.Investors don't look at our $44 billion reserves and frown in disgust,it is one of many things that makes us a more attractive investment destination.

That is why many countries build up their's.As at August 2006, countries like Russia had($243billion),  Singapore($128billion),S.Korea($225billion),Taiwan($260billon).They had it not because they were clueless  buffons who didn't know what to do with their money but because it helps a nation's economy to have a rainy day fund.

If we need to spend our relatively puny reserves in the power sector just so that we can attract private investment,one must ask,why stop there?Our manufacturing sector is woeful and needs private investment,we might as well pour in govt funding into building factories.

Any sector which needs private investment might then require Govt spending .At the end we will be rolling back the march of economic liberalisation and adopting Soviet style Central Planning.

If we have learnt anything over the past few decades,it is that Govt has no business in business.Full deregulation will attract private investment and not Govt spending

We need massive investment now, which no private body will think of doing, unless we are seen to be putting our own money where our mouth is - investing in the same sector. when you are serious with your own business, then others will come in to work with you.
Here is where I have a problem with your posts.We don't have to invest in the power sector just to attract private investment.We didn't have to do that with GSM to attract private investment .

If the Govt was sincere and committed to deregulation,the private sector will be eager to come in.

I asked you a simple question;if there is a viable market out there to provide private healthcare for Nigerians,why hasn't the private sector stepped in to exploit this market?

I have said that the environment in Nigeria makes it difficult and hence pointless

There's a market for high quality healthcare in Nigeria, and there are hospitals that cater to that market.  However, because of the billions our politicians possess, they'd rather travel abroad.  Afterall it's not their money.

There would be even more high quality hospitals in Nigeria if the industry was not so highly regulated.
There is equally a market for air travel in Nigeria,but this is a market  for only an exclusive class of Nigerians.What we are talking of is mass health care.That is for the Govt to provide cos the private sector will not do that.

In the UK,we have private hospitals and indeed my parents prefer that to the public ones but the average man on the street cannot afford the private hospitals here(talkless of the average Nigerian)this is where the Govt steps in and provides health care for the masses

Aren't there people who go abroad for checkup on a regular basis, you think these folks won't patronize a Nigerian hospital?. . .Man please!
Surely,if there was such a market,businesses will pile in to make money?Why would anyone see an obvious opprtunity to make money from building hospitals and simply avoid it?My view is that there is no such market and that is why we don't have such advanced private healthcare.

If you believe otherwise,pls explain why you think bizs are avoiding this obvious money making opportunity
PoliticsRe: Atiku Injured, Flown To London For Treatment by 4Play(m): 7:56pm On Mar 14, 2007
@Donzman

If the market was out there to build first class private hospitals,the private sector would gladly build it.They would not need the prompting of anyone.Nigerians are a fairly enterpreneurial bunch and would not shy away from setting up private hospitals if they were convinced there was money to be made.

The fact that there are few such hospitals is testament to the fact astute investors do not think it is worthwhile in the current Nigerian environment.

This is where the Govt is to blame.They have failed to provide an environment where businesses will thrive .As if this is not enough,they have also failed to public alternative hospitals in light of the private secor's unwilligness to step in

The simple point is,if there was a viable market out there for private healthcare,businesses will step in.Since there is none,the Govt has to fill in the gap

If the Government decides to nationalize healthcare then it should be blamed for all the problems. In a place like Nigeria where healthcare is NOT nationalized, the private sector and the public sector shares the blame with more emphasis on the private sector which is supposed to be more efficient.
