no i dont think so.... to each their own misery. i would rather a man marry multiple wives and be faithful than marry just one and cheating on her with multiple women. the problem here is:
A) many women enter these polygamous r/ships not as a desire, but simply because thats the only option they have... and thus become bitter miserable women in these union... while some women desire to be in such r/ship from the get go and become wonderful concubines/co-wives etc

B) yes there isa serious problem with marriages in Nigeria/Africa, but i doubt it has anything to do with polygamy. polygamy has been here since the begining of time, and there wasnt any problem with it before, why suddenly blame polygamy?

C) IMHO the main problem here is SOCIETY...
- it is society that pushes women to believe that they must get married at any cost, even if they are not ready/willing.
- it is society that looks down on unmarried women.
- its society that looks down on successful women, so long as they aint married.
- its society that believes that men can have multiple wives but looks down on women wanting to have multiple husbands.
- its society that believes that its ok for a +60yr old man to marry a 18yr old.
- its society that looks up to money so much that some people are willing to even marry a donkey, so long as it has money.

I prefer a husband to marry second wife instead of sniffing around.
So I can have freedom to face my life as a single married woman.

I'm sure people from polygamous family might have learnt one or two lessons that will/might make them conclude that marrying more than a wife is a no no for them. While some believe there are still benefits in marrying more than one wife.

There is no problem marrying more than one woman. That has always being there since caveman days. The problem is that values, norms and culture are lost. The only reason why a woman is intolerant to a fellow woman is because most women nowadays lost the proper home training and become intolerable. Then men too have become ignorant and look for the wrong things in women. Coupled to the misinterpreted bible stand of one man and one woman. Since the advent of one man, one wife, the rate of divorce has increased, incest skyrocketed, rape rampant. Now immorality is second to none.

Not to digress much, the advantage of marrying more than one wife since immemorial has always been to expand horizon, it used to be sign of affluence, it used to sign of strength and growth.
Today, as sure it won't be much different but pls don't bite more than you can chew.

Man is polygamous by nature and as such will desire to have another woman in bed at the slightest opportunity. That said, If you are so desirous of having more than one woman at the same time where your cultural, religious or family practices pushes or permits you to do so, think of the consequences. However, if doing 'that thing' is the reason you are looking for polygamy, look for women who will agree to be your mistress on terms.


You completely got it wrong. You are trying to mislead others. Having more than one wife is better and safer than you keeping to those mistresses.

Everything in life has advantages and disadvantages but if you mention of polygamy the disadvantages in it surpasses the advantages. I was born into polygamy, my mother was third wife to my father and was the one to begat him three sons, this sparked hatred in the extended family that even the family members of my step-mothers became jealous of my mother till date, and they pass it to my step-brothers and step-sisters to inherit against us.

If you want competition you can go into it...If it is peace of mind that you wanted, I should advise you marry only one wife which is enough for an average man.

Right now my landlord is frustrated because he is a polygamist n the Corona lockdown has brought his children together under one roof n it's war everyday even the man is tired of it right now

The second example was when I was in school,we had a rich man in our area who married 4 wives n had 17 children with them,one of the children died n b4 u knew it d wives started pointing accusing fingers at each other thereby every wife had to tell her children to leave d house.

when d man was bedridden none of the children came around cos of fear n even the wives were partially present n absent at d same time.At d end of d day d rich man died without none of his children around n to make it worse they didn't come for his burial cos of fear of the unknown.oga all these things might not happen in a monogamous setting

One of the worst decisions. Your children will forever hate you (if they are educated oh), because of the rivalry between them and their mothers.
There won't be peace in your home as the children grows older.
There will be huge jealousy, competition and comparison between both wives and their children.

Not worth a dime. Get peace of mind.

Remember that I made the maturity, strength and sensibility of the man a pre-condition. I also stated clearly that he must be capable and willing to take adequate care of his homes.

To give you an analogy, look at each wife like a business, if you are an ignorant, immature or weak manager, you will struggle to manage even one business, talkless of many. It doesn't mean that having many businesses is bad... it is certainly not; a savvy strong businessman will have many businesses and will run them well.

The most important thing here is to limit your responsibilities to what you can carry in terms of children, women or men in your lives.

I was searching for one problem that exists in polygamy that does not exist in serial monogamies be it envy, greed, competition or rivalry. Nobody mentioned one.

Please, can anyone tell me anywhere in the world where the desire for more than one woman or man does not exist.

In whatever we do, character is the key. Character has nothing to do with polygamy or serial monogamies. Do not blame the behavior of rapists, abusers and hedonists on whatever marriage is in your culture.

Reform bad ones e.g parading virgins for king to marry. Who wants the left overs, unless you're desperate?

Sense will not kill you. The truth is having many children or multiple wives are no longer in line with the dictate of this current world system. Those that did it back then did so majorly out of economic reason. Farming was the major source of income hence more hands equal more income while maintaining less running cost for the family. But now, one will end up breeding crimes even when you have money to care for them, you can't maintain proper control. And at the end, it will be a game of who gets what via the mothers who will be fronting the battle. Las Las na the women go enjoy while the man is abandoned or given less care.

There is no advantage in marrying more than one wife oooo. There isn’t all. It will tell on your children. If you check the records in the Bible, the man who had more than one wife faced some family problems at sometime- Abraham, Jacob, David , Solomon. Isaac married one wife and even when there was problem in his home when Jacob stoke Esau’s blessing, Esau was the one who later went to look for his brother. He forgave. That the power of a single man and woman. Do you think if Job had more than one wife, he wouldn’t curse God. See what happened to Solomon. The devil is able to penetrate the family when a man has more than one wife. I want to believe this is why the New Testament envisages one man, one wife as the family is the foundation for the church. See God’s instruction for kings- Deuteronomy 17:16-17 New International Version (NIV)

16 The king, moreover, must not acquire great numbers of horses for himself or make the people return to Egypt to get more of them, for the Lord has told you, “You are not to go back that way again.” 17 He must not take many wives, or his heart will be led astray. He must not accumulate large amounts of silver and gold.
Remember we are redeemed Kings. Stick to the wife of your youth. Prov 31: 3 says do not spend your strength on women, your vigor on those who ruin kings. A prudent wife is hard to find to more two.

Ofcos having more than one woman in your life is advantageous(better behaviours and even better sex).

I remember telling one unserious gf I have that one of my baby mothers still trying her best to come live with me permanently but that I've been avoiding her since. You won't believe the kind of sex this my unserious gf have been giving me ever since.

But back to ur question, You only need to hold one wife at a time in this modern world. Doesn't mean you can't have previous baby mamas.

So many men are in this kind of situations. Look at Tu face, Davido and Wizkid.

I have 2 baby mothers myself and I still consider myself single cos I've never found that one ideal woman I'm looking.

So if I eventually find her and marry her, would you call me a polygamist.

Its not an ideal world, and just do what makes u feel OK.

Good you're happy and the wives are competing to care for you as expected in a polygamous home. But you must continue to fund it evenly. And of course, I pray you aren't also in the boat of those with long term effect. I.e. women strategizing around their children to have their children well fixed before they start manifesting thereby leading to father abandonment or given less care at old age. True, no perfect marriage anywhere but the risk is higher with multiple partners. Stay bless in your home.
