Newsmic: Nigerian singer, Timi Dakolo has raised alarm over the spike of black soot in Port Harcourt, Rivers state, IgbereTV reports.
The black soot blamed on illegal bunkering and gas flaring, was first noticed in parts of Port Harcourt and some neighbouring local government areas like Eleme, Oyigbo, Ikwere, Obio/akpor, in 2016.
Taking to Instagram on Monday, the singer shared photos of people's feet, palms, hands covered in black dust and called on residents to speak up.

optimistD: See the soles of my 2years old son. The room was mopped a night before the morning this pictures were taken. He never came outside or to the veranda.
We live in Port Harcourt and this is our condition of living. The government is not doing enough. The ministry of health and environment don’t seem to exist here. We are celebrating flyovers, which is not bad, but are they not built for these humans that have been left to their fate to die? Hm!
Everyone is coughing here. I thought soot is black, which one is "black soot" again? |

For ILR long residence route (10yrs), you can fast-track the decision via the super-priority payment (extra £800) opened at 1 am (yes, after midnight). I would have done this but was not aware of the 1 am super-priority opening. I also found out about this after I had submitted and booked my biometrics. EmmyKing86: Hello everyone.
A little bit of advice for those who recently came to the UK and are seeking permanent residency in the future is to plan accordingly. Start small and gradually grow big. As you may all have read from people's experiences, it's really not easy particularly for those coming with family on tier4 students visas. I cannot overemphasize cultivating the habit of saving and financial discipline as an application to transfer to another visa category or extend your visa is quite expensive. Also, put into consideration the cost of living e.t.c. Please, don't be too quick to spend lavishly while giving people back at home any kind of false impressions. Again, there are people who had to leave prematurely after making extravagant purchases due to losing their jobs and being unable to find another one on time.
Wishing you all good luck and all the best. 100% agree. It happened to a former colleague of mine, 2 in fact, both Nigerians. I can't say they lived a lavish lifestyle but did not have enough to go back or remain. They became pitiable sight to behold. One I believe went on a student visa and I don't know what became of the other. |

dupyshoo: This is so true!!! A lot of my friends were forced to leave UK mid way because they lost their jobs.
I went through similar situation as well. My employer refused to sponsor my ILR after 5 years. I was fortunate to get another employer that sponsored my Tier 2. Applied for ILR after 1 month with the new employer. Lucky you. Why would they refuse to? HR didn't even want to give me a letter at first. I tried explaining my situation to them but they were very dumb to understand. They did not understand the immigration system and were not willing to use their brains to think. But I later put it down to the fact that they were not educated enough, some did not have degrees. For those here asking to do MBA or MSc to work as HR, totally unnecessary except you need it for something else. |

Ralphlauren: Congratulations.
The risks attached to Tier 2 visa has not been discussed on this forum. Hats off to those that are on this route.
I know many people that were underpaid but just had to stick with it just because the company offered sponsorship. I remember a friend who was offered sponsorship by a tech company straight after university but less than a year later, he was asked to leave the company. He struggled to get another sponsor with the 90 days grace period and he had to return to Nigeria.
The risk of redundancy, "offending" your bosses, not meeting productivity targets, misconduct, saying or doing something that's not politically correct, not scoring well during yearly appraisals. . . I can only imagine the prayers, constantly thinking about a plan B and uncertainty people on this route sometimes have to go through. . . . I kept seeing opportunities passing me by but was stuck. |

LagosismyHome: Congrats and glad you had a backup.... I don't know why companies can be so mean. There one guy I met, he was made redundant one month to iLR while on tier 2, he begged them to not even pay him and just be on the books since it was just one month and they said no. It was very painful. The wife was a housewife and no backup to even quickly do student visa...he had to go back and back in naija no real job.
So I am really happy to see you got to the finish line, even though I don't know you lol... Yes, my boss had earlier that year told me that what every I do I should "get the Queen's passport" because there were business trips I couldn't go because it would have taken longer than necessary to get a visa due to my passport. When it happened he claimed he had forgotten and then went ahead to tell senior management I had plan B so it wasn't so bad. |

I got my ILR. 10 year route 1 year - Student visa 5 years + tier 2 4 years Spousal/partner Hopefully I will get my passport in January. Then I can start applying for jobs abroad. I did not apply for my ILR on tier 2 because I was naive. I was at risk of redundancy with barely 2 months to my ILR and the company wouldn't give me a letter without stating that I was at risk. I didn't feel comfortable applying with that on the letter so I canceled my appointment and when I failed to get another sponsor and not enough time to find a decent job in Nigeria, I applied for a spousal visa which reset my timeline. In hindsight, I should have applied and I would have been granted it, saving me thousands of pounds in application fees and NHS surcharge. More painful is the fact that I had considered moving back home in the earlier years but got to the point where going back without at least ILR was not logical. Hopefully I find a good role back home or somewhere near , Amen. |

Is the economy good? he listens to me very well, I want to research well and advise him about this country I have not been to Uzbekistan but having been to SA, your brother should be looking at better countries rather than looking back. There's a thread here of a nairalander that went to Khazakhstan about 2 years ago and became frustrated. He came back about 3 months later and committed suicide. It made the front page then. Khazakhstan has a larger size and larger economy than Uzbekistan so look before you leap. |

NOTICE: It looks like they have exit scammed. Payments haven't been going through since Friday (I was able to withdraw $600+ on Friday). I guess I was lucky. I just logged in now and they claim withdrawals will resume on the 1st of April. They have also changed the plans available. I was lucky to have gotten my money back and a some more. All that was left is profit. DO NOT PUT YOUR MONEY IN IT. I'll move on to the next but this time with extreme caution. |

tushqueen: Let me reframe my question thus; if the husband is working and the wife is working as well, each of them should pay council tax for the same house. If the bill is £1000 for example, that's what your household will pay whether it comes out of your account or your spouse's account. It's better to have both names on it so that you can use the bill as one of the evidences that you live together when applying for your spousal visa. The bill does not increase with the number of names on it except if you claim single household. In that case councils give discounts if fewer people live in a house, which does not seem to be your case. |

I decided to reinvest my capital for one of my plans that ended today. Did I hear someone say "you get liver?" Well life is all about risks, the higher the risks the higher the rewards. I now have over $10,000 , not all of it is my money though, I reinvested part of my profit. I will relax(maybe ) once I reach $300 per day earnings.

Captaincool1: This is what I was sent some weeks back.
You will be sponsored initially for a 4 years working visa in the position of Senior Support Worker, earning 28k pounds a year. The visa can be extended if need be.
These are the official financial outlays. Sponsorship licence for visa is 1655 pounds Visa Application fee is 610 pounds NHS Health surcharge 624 pounds each year 3yrs is 1872pounds Proof of 1270 pounds in hand to initially settle in UK. With tfare amounts to 6.5k pounds
You need to get an international driving lincence and should be able to drive from Nigeria.
Please what's your take. This is express scam. Very basic. No one will ask you to pay for sponsorship licence, visa fees and NHS surcharge. If they offer you the job, they can ask you to process all these by your self, if they are not paying. Do not handover a dime to these guys. |
