Be very careful with these kids telling you 21st century and modern day. Tradition is tradition.

If you do otherwise, just make sure you don’t step your foot anywhere close to your village.

You see these ones talking like they know anything about life; they will be no where to be found when spiritual problem starts, and you will have no option than to carry your cross alone out of sheer negligence.

Rubbish talk. If you are married you won't say this trash? Spiritual stuff has nothing to do with osu or the woman you married. Do you know how many women stand to their marriage even after all the rubbish their husbands did which even brought spiritual consequences? Is the ops family so clean that he calls someone an osu when that innocent girl might even be cleaner than his family juju history.

yes the will throw u out totally your immediate family will reject you sure i know but if you believe in what ever that is in you go ahead its your life enjoy it while it last but to me i no longer believe in osu, however our myopic mindset wont allow us igbos move past such ideology and believes. once heard to has be abolished in imo at Irete community in the Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State, on July 14, 2018 be precise yet people cant abide to it.

we said we re one yet will allow such evil ideology draw us and set us back sincerely i have been in your shoe bro i know what you re going through my candid advice kindly raise money and relocate abroad i believe you will definitely find peace as long as you guys re meant to be.

Proceed to marriage registry and marry him. Forget about your patients' archaic mentality. You're living in 2021, don't allow anyone to take centuries backward.

Marry her if you truly love her.

Take that big and bold decision, that's what makes you a man.

Those calling people that encouraged you to go ahead with the marriage are extremists and wicked souls by blood and lineage. They are everywhere, including my area.

The worst part of it all is that, most of them claim to be Christians.

An Osu didn't become Osu because of his making, but because of the wickedness, greed and ignorance of people like the ones calling tradition.

Osu, was recently abolished in Nsukka town in Enugu State. One of the processes taken was: asking the OSUs for forgiveness for ill-treatment over the years...

Please, marry that innocent girl.

Lol. The Osu tradition can never die, no matter how these Igbos claim otherwise. It’s one of those things in life.
.
The Osu Caste System points to how Igbos love to oppress their fellow humans. God is never mocked. So, God is punishing the Igbo Race for this atrocity in Nigeria. Can you imagine that innocent generations are suffering as a result of this barbarity?

The fact that you call her an osu is a problem already. You dont love her if you cant see her differently.
And what d heck is family conviction that you need to do? Who is marrying her? Why does your family need to validate d person you wanna live with?

<<<<Is Christianity existing in 21st century?..... yes
<<<<Has Outcast been abolished?.... Yes
<<<<So what's the problem?.....Systematic segregation and stigmatization....

I feel really bad that good looking men/women would be branded/ painted to an unidentified colour because of some long aged tradition that does nothing but tarnish images....

If you are sure that you don't need your family for anything in this lifetime for any kind of support especially Financially, then you can go ahead and marry him... but If you do, and still marry him, then depression will set in infuture because of how they will act toward you especially when kids starts rolling out... They might not want to come for child dedication.. and if they do, they will be acting like visitors and will not be free... due to ignorance....

If you are sure that you can walk on the street of your community especially during xmas with your kids who came to visit grandma without fear that someone will make derogatory statement like( she is X the daughter of Mazi ABC that married an Osu) then you can go ahead...

I don't know when this will stop... But in churches in Igbo like Protestant churches in early 2000, I am aware that they preach against it... but when it's time to get married, the Priests/Pastors do not marry Osu to show an example to the people...

If your love is stronger than all these stigmatization, then you can go ahead... But I have to let you know that stigmatization about cast system is real.... It's gonna be like Megan and Harry... but the difference is that it's the same colour that were carrying out the nonsense,....
I thought you guys said that the Osu cast system is no more, that it has been stopped? So If someone that has the kind of wealth that Dangote has, more like a Billionaire , who is also an Osu, proposes to a non Osu, will the girls parent will still reject such marriage?I doubt. I think this Osu thing, only raises it ugly head, when the person in question is either poor or from the middle class.
You guys should try and do away with this archaic laws in your society. How can you run your BIAFRA nation when such wicked laws are still allowed in the 21st century?
How do you guys feel when the Hausa-Fulanis treat the Igbos' as second class citizens? Sey you guys know how it feels like to be regarded as a second class citizens by the Fulanis? So, why then do you do the same to another person who is being victimized as a result something he/she has no control over..such as the kind of family one is born into.
My aunt died three ago in Lagos.Meanwhile she already told her children, before she passed, that she wished to be buried here in Lagos. This is becos, she does not want her wicked family to start taunting her children like the way she was treated when she buried her own parents. She was buried here in Lagos and heaven did not fall.

You can choose to prove a point and contribute to banishing the osu caste system for good but there would be consequences from your family and the other regret is what if the union falls apart and how your actions would affect your children.

Thereis nothing you can do about your family. Let them know how they have angered Jesus because a true Christian family will not care about a despicable caste system that is also based on paganism. Hellfire awaits them!

Younger generations are increasingly less conservative about such silly practices. There are many cultures in the world including Nigeria where it won't matter. So be rest assured you and your children will blossom among the sensible people of the world.

Take faith that you are not the only couples in this. There are many married couples who have gone ahead to forge their own path.

It won't last long, all of these silly older people will soon die anyways undecided.

Sweet, Before you marry that guy you need to consider the type of person you are first and your goals. Are you the type of person who wants to go into grassroot politics someday, do you like the idea of August meetings and village matters? Do you love spending holidays in the village? Do you plan to go back to the village after retirement? You may not want to marry him

Are you a city girl? Do you plan to build a life in the city or relocate abroad? Do you not care if you do not receive so many calls (except to request money) from your extended family? - do not worry, your parents will call you. You should marry him if you love him

You have a small stature but you are above 30 years - do not let your parents make a decision for you. On the other hand make sure this man loves you if not he might resent you for being a Diala or Ume.

I wish you the best

For any non-Igbo reading this, Osus are not treated badly. They were even more educated than the Dialas or Ume, Because they were sent to school while the other castes went to the farm. They are not despised, rather revered as property of the gods. (Glad its abolished)

The Christian Western world of the 1700 would be shocked at the world today.

It can and it will. Younger generations will outlive silly old people. Their useless beliefs will die with them. The ones that choose to hold on to those practices will be treated as outcasts.

Same difference. You will want to be associated with something of reverence not the other way round. As Christians in the 21st century, it is sad they still hold on to such beliefs.

Igbos and backward*ness, what is osu, in this modern era. Even their women are oppressed and not allowed to share in family inheritance. That is why Igbo women are usually the one who die in abusive marriages, because they will not be welcomed back home. It's so surprising things like this still exists. Igbos need to wake up.

I doubt the authenticity of this thread.... The OP might not even be an Igbo person... Just opened the thread for Igbo bashing....Osu doesn't exist anymore in the whole of the East... So I don't know what the OP is talking about
