I agree that MKO should be immortalized. My idea of immortalizing him was an internationally acclaimed Institute of Democracy in Nigeria, or renaming the entire three arms zone to MKO Abiola Zone and arming it with a powerfully equipped national/public library.
Renaming UniLag is not a proper application of this immortalization effort, IMO. However, the president thinks it is...so be it.

crusufixo:

I just passed the protest. They blocked traffic at fadeyi area which caused serious holdup. A truck full of armed military police men later showed to open up traffic. There was no violence though.

If i were in their shoes, i would also not be happy, but they went about it the wrong way.Am just grateful that there was no violence, else we would be hearing of dead students, and i hope it remains that way.

Why won't you be happy if you were in their shoes? Do they own the school? The students should be more concerned with the quality of the degrees they are studying for rather than bog themselves down with inanities.

Has GEJ not with a mere name change successfully distracted people from discussing the real issues confronting his wobbly administration and the restive country?

Re: Occupy UNILAG: Students Protest MAU Renaming by Kolababa: 1:22pm On May 29, 2012
Moshood Abiola was from Abeokuta in Ogun State.
Why not renaming University of Abeokuta, UNAAB which is located in the MKO's hometown to Mashood Abiola University, Abeokuta.
Another sign of cluelessness.

Jobless pupils!! Goodluck abeg command your generals like you did during subsudy to akoka.
Instead of protesting for better things like; Jobs for unilag maulu and other graduates, good governance, Youth development etc.
Majority are protesting because of the 'UNILAG BABES' thing, nothing meaningful.

Have u ever heard of the word Brand? That is what UNILAG represents and its not just locally but internationally. Imaging changing the name HAVARD UNIVERSITY to another name?!
What brand?undecided I think what you, myself and those students out there wasting their precious time ought to be more concerned about now should be improving on the standard of the institution to a world class learning facility. And please do yourself a favour, stop comparing a world class university like Havard with this our underfunded, ego and swaggzz oriented UNILAG now MAU. Havard is not existing on brand alone unlike our Unilag which largely is.

Re: Occupy UNILAG: Students Protest MAU Renaming by Nobody: 1:32pm On May 29, 2012
My heart is bleeding in silence and i feel the pain of the former unilag students for the new "MALU" name bestowed on them. It surely reduces the class and swaggs of been a unilag student. What class does Moshood Abiola Polytechnic has academically and classically? Unilag has been relegated to division 1 thanks to our darling president. When i was here warning many of you guys against voting for this man, people nearly ate me alive. Now lets stop the protests cos he aint even started yet. June 1 Phcn bills will increase, very soon subsidy will be finally removed. What a way to reward gullible youths who turned our en-mass to vote the lucky man into aso rock. Abeg gimme 1 bottle of OGIDIGA make i use am enjoy this "FRESH AIR" grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin
