Ladies and Gentlemen,

Non Muslims should have seen by now that Muslims abhor poking funs (or its semblance)  at the names of Allah and that of Muhammad. The Yorubas would say "mowa foniwa lonje orejore". There is no point finding execuses for the Lady-Teacher. The age-old adage is " Do in Rome like the Romans". The lady should have read up the culture and and believes of her host before even setting her foot on their soil.

Be that as it may be, she could be pardoned and be made to sign undertakings that she would henceforth not provoke her hosts. The clerics should seize the opportunity to teach her Islam and leave her to either accept the truth or continue in error.

David, i am not on this forum to trade insults with you, again i have my own angle of looking at issues which i have rights to, why should you try to force people to see issues only from your own perspective. I never asked you to beleive the example i gave, and it is irresponsible of you to insinuate that i am being dishonest. I know the likes of you:holier than thou, who would worse things than the CNN's have advertised about Islam. No one said the woman should be punished. I know your hatred for Islam has constantly made all your postings illogical and spiteful. I would like to have David's and Nwando's take on the invasions of Iraq.

I am a Republican
yes you heard me
die hard republican grin but having said that

I hate the war in Iraq
I hate all wars.
War brings anarchy and kills innocent women and children.

Do you thing I sit on my sofa shouting"praise the Lord" when I see helpless women crying on TV at the death of their husbands, children and their homes destroyed.
Absolutely not!
The same way I'm saddened by the death of the USA soldiers
Saddam Hussein was a lunatic that needed to be captured but I feel they should have done it without invasion.
I am disgusted at Bush for the war.
Iraq was a secular Islamic nation before the war but today is virtually over run by Islamic militants who incidentally have killed more of their own people in sectarian violence than those killed by American soldiers.
That is what happens in wars and the innocent suffer
Iraqi women before the war chose whether to wear a hijab or not
They drove
They went to school
They walked around freely without male escorts.

The aftermath of the war may be a country under strict sharia rule and oppression of women.
There are thousands of Westerners from the USA to France who oppose the war and carry out demonstrations denouncing it.
Despite the fact that most of you choose to see it otherwise.
Bush did not invade Iraq due to a Christian agenda.
That is far from the truth.

There was an Iran Iraq war where thousands were killed,is that also a Christian agenda?
How about Somalis ?

Regarding this case in particular - the teacher has only been in the country for 12 weeks and is not aware of all the laws of the land. She is a non-Muslim and unless i'm mistaken - Shariah is meant to be implemented on Muslims only?

(You are right. Shariah is to be implemented on Muslims only. But we have to take into consideration that we do not know of any leaders in the Muslim world, who is following islam as it supposed to be followed. When we have that and no one is telling him in the background that Caliphate must not be implemented, you will have a just muslim community or at least clearly leading towards it.)

@Nwando: As much I temper  with you, I will disagree with you concerning Iraq-Iran war of the 80s. The culprit, and instigator is where you see around you, USA. Thanks to the reagan and his republican henchmen, plus the dems. I am an Independent.

Further, even though, to me Bush is far from knowing what Christianity is, with his Skull and Bone and other secret societies' affiliations, you should go to google and watch plenty of videos from the aftermath of this shock and awe, under 'Christian Missionary atrocities!'

sweetie pie I will not derail this thread in Jesus name.
Just tell me how many shias and sunnis that have sent each other to jannat in the last month alone.
I don't get moved by baseless propaganda.

That was how some prisoners in Guantanamo said USA soldiers were  flushing the Koran down the loo an it was all a big fat lie meant to stir up jihad by the feeble minded.

This is just crazy . Thank God we are not living in sharia . Because i know they would find new ways to punish people , some of this people get me angry.

First of all, it is HARAM to impose 40 lashes and call it Sharia in Islam, except in the instance of alcohol. The LIMIT, that is bound in the Islamic Sharia is not more than 10 lashes maximum(for punishment), except what is mentioned SPECIFICALLY EXPLICIT, like for fornication).

I still do not understand why the Muslim leaders back there in Sudan are watching this happen . It is plain ignorance.

with all the bad image daily given to Islam, do they have to try new ways of drawing unwanted attention? embarassed

That is why the whole sharia thing should be scrapped totally and democratic laws instituted.
That way it would be fair and not subject to interpretations.
The sharia in Sudan differs from the one in Gombe and the Saudi  sharia is differnt from Mauritanias
You say it should not affect non Muslims, sudan says otherwise.
The Christians murdered and jailed in the Muslim world for their faith know otherwise.
sharia doesn't even use DNA evidence, fingerprinting, forensics
what kind of jungle justice is that

We all ought to live in a democratic world where people can choose to worship stones and not be stoned to death for it.

I really don't have to explain to you because I know that Muslims find it hard to understand the concepts of Trinity and the Law & grace in the New Testament so I'll let things be. the way they are.

It will be highly appreciated if you can explain the concept in the best possible way for me to grab cheesy

Sharia is an Islamic law and must not be implemented on Non muslims . this whole teddy bear thing is just absurd.
The fact that most of our Islamic leaders use sharia for their own selfish interest in totally unIslamic.

reminds me of last year here . Some fanatics chased some Muslim Ladies wearing pants angry and nearly flogged one of them to death .Before you knew it Those Clerics angry came out saying sharia must be implemented .
But it was all brushed aside .

I am a Muslim and i will die one , but i do not like all this Fanatics . They destroy the Image of Islam . Giving people wrongful Information and causing trouble for the good Muslims out there

Sharia must be implemented with Wisdom , and they know but they implement their own rules in Ignorance and punish people unjustly .

British teacher in Sudan found guilty of insulting Islam in teddy bear case

KHARTOUM, Sudan - Lawyers for a British teacher in Sudan say she has been convicted of the less-serious charge of insulting Islam for letting her pupils name a teddy bear "Muhammad."They say she was sentenced to 15 days in prison and deportation to Britain.Gillian Gibbons could have received 40 lashes and six months in prison in the case if found guilty of the more serious charge of inciting religious hatred and given the maximum penalty. In London, the Foreign Office says it is "extremely disappointed with the sentence."Britain's Foreign Secretary David Miliband has summoned the Sudanese ambassador to explain the verdict. The 54-year-old Gibbons was arrested Sunday after complaints to the Education Ministry that she had insulted the Prophet Muhammad, the most revered figure in Islam, by applying his name to a teddy bear. One of her lawyers says she was found guilty of "insulting the faith of Muslims in Sudan" under Article 125 of the Sudanese criminal code, a less-serious charge than the original count of inciting religious hatred. The charge later was confirmed by a judge leaving the closed court session.Defence lawyers said they would appeal the verdict.Gibbons' employer, Robert Boulos of the Unity High School, called it "a very fair verdict.""She could have had six months and lashes and a fine, and she only got 15 days and deportation," Boulos said. He noted that she would only spend 10 days in prison, having already served five.Gibbons is expected to serve her sentence in the Omdurman women's prison near Khartoum.Religious conservatives in Sudan were outraged by the naming of the teddy bear, and defence lawyers reported receiving death threats."I am threatened. That's why I'm carrying a gun in court," defence lawyer Abdel Khalig Abdallah said, opening his coat to reveal a revolver during a break in the trial.

Please stop telling lies.
You may fool some forumites writing from Nigeria who probably think Muslims are forced to recite "our Lord's prayer" but anybody here in the states including yourself knows this is a bald face lie.

Several individuals have made movies that said derogatory things of Christ none of them have been threatened or killed.
No Muslims shouted allahu akhbar and swung machetes even though they claim he was their prophet when it's convenient
.
Neither the actors, actresses, writers ,producers or directors were harmed. They went home and had a good night's sleep because Christians don't need to fight battles like your brethren in Sudan and Saudi.
You are a little too mature for these childish lies.
It's getting irritating.

Lets be honest, if you took a poll of the reasons why we have muslims pouring into "secular" (actually christian) countries you'd be shocked that allah's alleged ownership of the earth would be at the very bottom of the list.

Here are a few reasons:
1. poverty, illiteracy and disease in most muslim countries - ask the sudanese!
2. Despotic leaders and a stifling political climate - just ask the Iranians who cant even get a choice of barbers!
3. Terrorism - ask the lebanese lucky enough to possess US passports!

the list is endless . . . alhaji i can assure you when you came here allah's land was the last thing on ur mind.
