Another smear campaign from GEJ cronies on NL. The ThisDay report is a direct response to the rumors making the rounds that the contractors were foisted on INEC by he presidency. I will not take a stand yet until we heat from INEC. |
My family is larger as such the value of my vote will be substantially higher. How about you? |
I curled this from a web post. Although I have not been able to find the original source, it is however very insightful. THE VALUE OF MY VOTE As the general elections draw closer, politicians are getting desperate to get more people to cast their votes in their favour. Last week, I witnessed an amazing drama unfold as a politician tried frantically to convince my neighbour to cast his vote for a party. When the politician realized that his effort was getting him nowhere, he decided to use the power in his pocket. He brought out a bundle of N200 notes and dangled it in my neighbour’s face, basically the way you would dangle some bait to an animal you are trying to catch. “How much is your vote?” he asked, with a deceptive smile on his face. My neighbour hesitated for a moment, and then he grabbed a piece of paper and began to scribble down something. When he finished writing, he handed the piece of paper to the politician saying, “This is the value of my vote.” The politician went through the paper briefly and then squeezed and threw it away, in my direction. He hurried away, saying that my neighbor wasn’t being rational. My neighbour, realizing I was watching, picked up the paper and said, waving the paper at me, “Am I being irrational?” I collected the paper and took a quickly look at it. He had written on the paper the breakdown of his family’s expenses, which the government (according to him) had so far failed to provide or make available for its citizens. He then multiplied everything by four (4) years. Something like this:
[li]Security - N20,000 per month x 12 months x 4 years = N960,000 [/li] [li]Generator - N40,000 per 2 years x 2 = N80,000 [/li] [li]Fuel for generator - N1,000 per day x 365 days x 4 years = N1,460,000 [/li] [li]Potable water - N500 per day x 365 days x 4 years = N730,000 [/li] [li]Healthcare Insurance - N10,000 per monthx 12 months x 4 years = N480,000 [/li] [li]Education - N5,000 per month x 12 months x 4 years = N240,000 [/li] [li]Housing - N500,000 per year x 4 years = N2,000,000 [/li]
Total - N5,950,000 (five million nine hundred and fifty thousand naira). Well,” he explained as I continued to stare at his breakdown, “if asking for the basic necessities of life is not being rational, I wonder what is rational?” I wasn’t trying to be difficult,” he continued. “I believe this is a modest breakdown of expenses considering I have a wife and a kid. If you have a larger family, the value of your vote may be much higher than this,” he concluded. So, my dear friend, if you want to sell your vote, I won’t say “don’t.” But, be like my neighbour. Make sure it is “worth its weight in gold.” (Inspired by a true story) Wish Nigeria the Best of Leaders Through a Free and Fair Election. Have a Peaceful Election! |
@Jarus, Good choice of a first 11 and a sensible explanation of the roles they are expected to play. |
Adamuhassa:The reports in ThisDay and Punch are not entirely similar. With ThisDay fighting credibility battle for it's 70million SMS poll, I'll take the peppered report from ThisDay with a pinch of salt. The punch news seemed to have reported a more balanced news. |
efisher:The bold may have been appointed by a PDP government, they were equally forced out by the same PDP government. Affirming the notion that PDP has nothing good to offer. I'm just wondering how Deziani Madueke made the list of PDP performers? |

GEJ and his PDP ilks will do everything to make the task of nation building very difficult, if not impossible if any other candidate wins the election. We already know GEJ is not interested in developing the country apart from making empty promises. Hence I will not be surprised if they make the country bankrupt before the fisher leaves Aso ROck. |
Lagosboy:Amen. I was able to tether through my mobile phone in the early hours of today after the rites. The hotel I'm currently staying provides free internet access to guests (of-course after chopping my head for hotel bills). Na pepper o! aisha2:Amen! |
Lagosboy:Yes o Bros. I just concluded my rites too last night and should be heading home on Friday. aisha2:Aisha, there are different modes of voluntary fasting already in Islam. Mondays and Thursdays of every week, and the three middle days of every lunar month are some typical examples. So fasting has been part of the prayer modes of lots of muslim supporters of the BB ticket. We were even more encouraged by the 7days of fasting which preceded the BB campaign flag-off. So my sister, we have already began fasting even before you made the suggestion! |

Who says there is no potency in the power of Du'a (prayers)? I had barely finished my religious rights and all these great news are flowing in! Many thanks to you all for having faith inthe possibility of returning Nigeria back to the path of development. I am indeed in a total state of loss of words to express how deeply ecstatic I am about how Nigerian youths are being galvanized to release Nigeria from the shackles of the PDP. As we continue to work tirelessly for the realization of the BB presidency, I will implore everyone of us who believe in the power of prayers to continue to support this noble course with lots and lots of prayers. Long live Nigerian Youths Long Live Nigeria. @Jarus, My little token for the bulk text message will be sent into your account as soon as I am able to make use of secure internet connections. The ones I have access to at the moment are public connections. |
Gents and ladies, I must confess that I am totally overwhelmed by the level of dedication everyone has put into this project. I pray God crowns our efforts with the Buhari/Bakare presidency. Jarus, I suppose I may still drop some extras into your account. I would be on/off the web for a few days 'cos I'm on a short leave and on the road for most of my days off-work. More gist when I get the time to call you. I suppose we may need to also go a bit spiritual, hence I'm taking our case to God in the Holy land! You can use the extra cash I'll be sending to fund the bulk sms. |
I can never support GEJ nor canvass for vote for him because of his ineptitude and deceitfulness. |
I agree totally with those who opine that Jega's integrity remains intact. In fact I also duff my hat for Professor Atahiru Jega for being able to swallow his pride and postpone the elections. I also supporting him for threatening the cabals that he'll throw in the towels. The only problem I have with Jega is that he accepted to chair INEC with the corrupted RECs who were with Iwu. If Jega had insisted on having his own crew, at INEC, I'm almost certain, things would have been a lot better. I am also advocating that Nigerians should stand up to support this man with whatever we have. If Jega fails, it will not be his burden alone, 150million Nigerians would have failed. |
dapachez:Another pointer to the fact that PDP is blackmailing traditional rulers with threats of getting deposed. A father's curse on his child can only be effective if and only if the Son engages in sacrilegious acts. In this instance, the son has decided to chose the future while his father wants to duel on the rotten past of PDP's 12 years of misrule. I doff my hat for the son. I am in a simlar position too, but my father has never for once and will never curse me or my other sibblings for opposing his political party. |
babaearly:All the money has gone into GEJ's numerous farewell parties, under the auspices of election campaigns, across the nation. |
Johns83:You claim you are none partisan and your posts reek of bigotry and myopic views. In Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia there are hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of non-Muslims, yet the Authorities in these countries have not been able to convert these citizens/residents to Islam. It is only intellectual vegetables who would think every Nigerian can be converted to one religion or the other. These 'tales by moonlight' stories can only sell in environments where the level of education and awareness are next to nothing. |
Genbuhari3:I've been doing that all along anyways using the sample text messages on the BB campaign website. If we still have funds to do more jingles, let's proceed to do such in other cities outside Lagos as Jarus suggested. |
@Jarus, Thanks for all the effort. It's well appreciated. May be off NL for a few days but would still be able to at least read NL posts on my mobile. In case you need to reach me, just drop me an email and I'll give you a call asap. @Everyone, In as much as I would not mind promoting NL, 'cos the big picture here is to encourage a young entrepreneur (Seun) and others too that you one can make a decent living for oneself if efforts and knowledge are well channeled, I personally do not support the inclusion of anything that bears Nairaland in the jingle. Seun Osewa crossed the line the day he took sides with bluelabs on the shameful attempt at defaming Buhari. The issue here is not about Buhari, but the notion that bluelabs song was stolen. I would not want to be part of a group that will bring another distraction, through unfounded claims as supported by Seun Osewa, to the BB campaign team. If Seun decides to start accusing the BB team of using his online forum (Naiaraland.com) to make jingles without his consent, the BB team would have to waste another 24 hours trying to clear the air. The onlyway, I would personally support the inclusion of NL in the jingle is for Seun to give a written consent which will be posted on NL for all to see. I would also want to have a copy of such a consent letter. Finally, I wish to say thanks to everyone who has been part of this little effort of our. I enjoin those amongst us who believe in God to keep praying for a free and fair election and for the best candidate, in this case General Muhammadu Buhari, to deliver Nigeria and Nigerians from the dreadful and corrupt jaws of the PDP. For those who don't believe God exists, your supports are also welcomed. |
^^^ Are you guys dunces or what? If bluelabs has a case, the courts are there to adjudicate the matter. If bluelabalaba feels cheated, they should proceed to the courts. Just as I've warned earlier, bluelabs should start perparing themselves for a libel suit. If bluelabs thinks their way to stardom and wealth is through this cheap blackmail and defarmation, they surely will not be in existence for long. |
lyfe:The change we clamor is finally coming! Lord, God count me amongst those who would witness good leadership in Nigeria. |
sleekymag:You must be on some expired wet weed? Nigeria 4th fastest growing economy in the world? What sort of lies will these GEJ sponge brained babies tell to cover the rot of the the PDP government and their inept leader? ![]() |
@Eziachi, You were spot-on on your prediction about PDP not wanting the NASS and presidential elections to hold on the same day. See the news below from DailyTrust news papers: ===================================================================== Election crisis: Storm at security council meeting Monday, 04 April 2011 00:00 Abdullahi Idris The crises in the wake of the aborted National Assembly elections almost reached a shattering climax on Saturday night when Independent National Electoral Commission [INEC] chairman Professor Attahiru Jega offered to resign at a stormy meeting of the National Security Council chaired by President Goodluck Jonathan at the Aso Rock Villa, Daily Trust learnt from government sources yesterday. The storm however blew over when Jonathan rejected the resignation offer. Sources close to the meeting told Daily Trust that hours after President Jonathan returned from Bayelsa State, where he had gone to cast his vote in the ill-fated National Assembly elections, the Security Council met in emergency session with the INEC chairman in attendance. Vice President Mohammed Namadi Sambo, National Security Adviser General Andrew Owoye Azazi, ministers of Defence and Police Affairs, the military service chiefs, the police Inspector General and the director general of the State Security Service were among those present, sources said. According to our sources, a top security official at the meeting angrily blamed INEC for the problems that led to the election’s failure. In particular, he accused INEC of turning down the offer to use the military for election logistics. He then said the government should constitute a military task force to take over all election logistics, but the INEC officials rejected the claim, saying the Nigeria Air Force was deeply involved in moving election materials to the states using its Hercules aircraft. At some point, tempers flared up and the INEC chairman offered to resign immediately. Sources said Attorney General and Minister of Justice Mohammed Bello Adoke waded in and said a resignation by the chairman in the midst of elections will amount to treason, and President Jonathan rejected the resignation offer. However, the Security Council made two demands of INEC that night, according to sources. The council demanded that INEC should shift the rescheduled election from Monday to Saturday and then shift the subsequent elections by a week each. The council also demanded that INEC should modify the current system of voting, which entails an accreditation of voters of voters followed by their queuing up to vote. The council said a voter should be accredited and allowed to vote at the same time. Incidentally, the Security Council’s suggestion to postpone the National Assembly polls to Saturday was endorsed by the political parties yesterday after their leaders met at the Nicon Luxury Hotel in Abuja. The party leaders pointed out that if elections were to hold today, they would have no money to remobilize their polling agents, since the banks closed at the weekend. They also complained that some state governments declared last Friday a public holiday and they were unable to cash cheques in the banks. Daily Trust also learnt that the decision to further postpone the elections became inevitable when INEC’s commissioners in the field expressed fears that they may also encounter difficulties remobilising their polling officers at short notice. Besides, there were problems of mix-ups and omissions in the ballot papers of some areas that need to be reprinted in order for those areas to participate in the elections. For example, in Gombe Central senatorial district, CPC’s name and logo were omitted from the ballot paper, while the codes for Gombe North and South senatorial districts were mixed up. Political sources told Daily Trust that when INEC first mulled election postponement on Saturday, President Goodluck Jonathan’s officials strongly kicked against the option of moving the Assembly polls to merge with the presidential election. They feared that it could affect the president’s chances at the polls because many senatorial and House of Representative candidates are unpopular locally, and that could rub on Jonathan if the polls hold simultaneously. On the other hand, some PDP assembly candidates from the North mounted a pressure of their own, saying they could be defeated if their elections are merged with those of the President, who they said is unpopular in their areas. http://www.dailytrust.dailytrust.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=15954:election-crisis-storm-at-security-council-meeting&catid=2:lead-stories&Itemid=8 |
payless:Those GEJ babies would never understand. Nonetheless thanks for standing up against corruption. I wonder how any sane individual can link this incident with Buhari. If there is anyone who plans to forment trouble in Bauchi state, it certainly would be Yuguda of the PDP. |
^^^ God bless you. The article simply dug up stale and unsubstantiated news. |
smile11s:Why ask someone else to join you on your suicide mission? |
muami:By then, PDP would have been reduced to a South-South Party! |
roxell120:Even a pile of poo has lots of flies hanging around too! |

muami:We know you are one of the GEJ babies on NL. No one would expect you to ever agree with SR whenever GEJ and PDP are at the receiving end. Keep wallowing in you ignorance. April 9 is just by the corner. We'll compare results after the elections. |
