It is unfortunate that things have to happen for us to respond. The moment things quell down the government will put the maintenance money to other use.

We are just like that. Leave government money alone and focus on what the people need. Look at the stadium in Abuja, abandoned to rot away, look at national theatre, look at Tinapa etc.
What do mean “things have to happen for us to respond”?
Lagos Security Trust Fund has existed, and been helping the police, since the Fashola administration.

LSTF do not just donate equipment to the police…
But also pays death insurance (over the NPF insurance benefits) up to N10 million. Eko o ni Baje!

Except u don't no d meaning of d words u chose to express urself, then we can talk of context. I don't need to quote ur entire sentence to understand d context. What other context or meaning can be given to "development is a process not an event"?

Pls what is correlation between physical traits of a Caucasian and d status of Lagos State as d second on d worst liveable cities in d world?

Meanwhile, If u say d report is "a useful index for an Oyinbo traveler…", does that in anyway negate it's validity?
Now, I realize that you are struggling with the English language, it easier to understand your confusion.

When you read (and more crucially, UNDERSTAND) the entire sentence, you will see that first line predicates the second and thus should be taken together to provide proper CONTEXT, to wit: while the index might be of some utility to a traveling Oyinbo, no purportedly EDUCATED (emphasis added and cannot be overemphasized) African should simply regurgitate it. Now, un-educated Africans are a different story.

Btw, if I have to explain to you what an ANALOGY (complete with “eg”) is, then it’s a waste to prolong this dialogue. So, bye Felicia! SMH

That is WORRY in capital letters
So notice is now synonymous with worry?! shocked
When you notice a building, you’re worried about it?! grin grin grin

You are correct with the CLI being rolled out gradually. It would have made a huge difference. But the CLI cannot be said to be effective due to town planning issues and road networks in Lagos. There are so many places they wouldn't be able to enter , hence the services of PSP.
Back then, Lagosians would have to carry their thrash and drop them (no matter where they live) at a designated point. Most times , it's cumbersome to do , being who we are. As a result , Lagosians drop their thrash on the roads( major bus stops) closer to them. This caused a lot of problems that they (CLI) couldn't proffer solutions to.

I would have expected him to allow the PSP to also operate alongside the new ones. Observably, those CLI trucks don't come into the streets and this became a major problem. Quite a number of reasonable persons resorted to burning of thrashes , negating the proper disposal system and increasing air pollution
There’s NO difference between the operations of PSPs and that of Visionscape, except that the latter had better equipment, technology and more modern processes (including waste treatment), and thus could have handled waste management much better. Other than that, Visionscape would have been going from street to street picking up trash bags just as the PSPs are supposed to be doing.

Both Visionscape and the PSPs were supposed to co-exist under the CLI, with Visionscape handling residential waste while the PSPs would be responsible for commercial and industrial premises. The government was not simply going to let the investments of the PSP operators go to waste. Nonetheless, while the PSP system was innovative when initially introduced by the Fashola administration, Lagos has simply OUTGROWN it. Just as the steam engine gave way to the locomotive, and gas guzzlers to hybrids and electrics, time moves on.

What are you going on about?!

The Chinese lend you money, and you repay them money…
If you are a deadbeat that default on your loan, they should recover from whatever collateral you provided.

These China Exim Bank loans are Chinese taxpayers money…
Why should they give it to you at low rates to go hire German or other Western companies?

The loans that the Germans or the US’s OPIC are giving us…
Isn’t it so that Siemens (Germany) will upgrade our distribution network and we can buy GE (USA) turbines?

Meanwhile, which Nigerian engineers are going to build these world-class SGR lines?
Same ones struggling with building collapse? Abegi, we should be understudying the Chinese so we can take over.

AMINDA:
You wish. These loans are tied to Infrastructure. The Chinese do not release cash. Once the worth of the project is settled and counterpart funding paid, they bring in their engineers and deliver the project. Chinese concessionary loans are the best because they are embezzlement-proof.

Nigeria hires a consultant (an Italian firm in this case) to determine that the projects are delivered according to European standards and that's it. Chinese loans also have the least interest rate and higher moratorium (grace period before Nigeria starts paying up). It's no wonder the West are threatened by the Chinese in Africa and are sponsoring a lot of propaganda against them. China is the best thing to have happened to Africa.
Well said…
Nigerians/Africans often simply parrot their Western colonial masters.

If u said that "development is a process", then are agreeing with d report& acknowledging it's correctness. U are acknowledging that Lagos isn't developed which is what d report with d indices it used has said.

If u say d report is "a useful index for an Oyinbo traveler…", does that in anyway negate it's validity?

You called it world class ? Laughable. The system fashola introduced was a home- grown style which was working well until Ambode introduced another he couldn't be efficient about(if i could put it that way) . What works well in another clime may not work well in ours, because of our peculiarities. Nigeria is different!

There was a former colleague of mine(both worked in one of the telcos) , that also used to work under the Cleaner Lagos Initiative said Ambode doesn't listen to advise. Moreso, he said Ambode was advised to start the issue of sanitation from Lagos Island because all the logistics were not fully available , due to delay in production of trucks et al but he insisted. Thus, the disapproval by people over a short period after commencement.
You can argue that perhaps it should have been rolled out gradually…
But what you cannot RATIONALLY argue is that it’s not a world-class system.

Personally, I have warmed up to Sanwo-Olu (after initial suspicion), but abegi let’s not fool ourselves by pretending that the Cleaner Lagos Initiative was not massively and pointedly sabotaged (with disgruntled party apparatchiks and their foot soldiers actually dumping garbage on the streets every night), because a primary utility of persisting with the PSP system is that it allows for many “party men” to be “rewarded” with PSP contracts (basically, you pick up your contract award papers, take it to the bank, collect a loan, buy used trucks/compactors, and watch cash roll in). The CLI was not a whimsical Ambode policy, but rather it was the corpus of a comprehensive new environmental regulatory framework that was debated, went through all 3 readings and a public hearing, before being passed into law.

Dude was arrested at the airport on arrival. 1975, you knew how blood thirsty Murtala Mohammed was but still organized a coup with him because those of you in the Army that saw yourselves as "the field commanders" during the war, wanted to take charge from your Ogas! Murtala came in and destroyed the Civil Service with his ubiquitous "fight against corruption", then started the mindless desecration of the country with whimsical state creations done without recourse to either ethnic or cultural affinities amongst constituent units. Nigeria has never recovered from this!

You then took over in 1976 and started off by basically eliminating most middle belt officers with trumped up charges! Backdating decrees and summarily executing convicts tried by prejudiced tribunals. That's how the army was handed over to the fulanis. You sealed that off by forcing half baked Shagari on us as the president just to thank the far north for making you president! They will make you a president again in 1999 since you are the only one they can trust with power in the whole of Western Nigeria and again, you handed power back to another fuulani as if they are the only ethnic group in Northern Nigeria! Again, you will resurrect Buhari from the dead and foist him on Nigeria, yet again as the president! That's 3 fulanis you made presidents in one lifetime!
