Reference: Let me step in here and try to adjudicate. What they all refer to when using BBN as a lightning rod is the entire value system and it involves the entire society, not BBN alone.
Note that when comparing our value system with that of Europe or England where the EPL is represents huge commercial interests. They still recognize the value of life sciences, technology and the academia.
And while the remuneration gaps are equally huge, they certainly donot look down on these key sectors. It is poignant to note the difference between this regards in England and Nigeria during the Covid lockdown when times without number doctors, nurses and other health professionals were given monumental accolades in private and public for the great job done.
While here in Nigeria they were derided as scammers, liars, sensationalists, etc, cheated by the government and put down by all society.
It is about our value system which in Nigeria is hopelessly base. It is not simply about who pays what or who funds what or who owns what. We just donot have it in mind to understand the right thing.
Then they shouldn’t have used BBN as an example… BBN is actually a triumph of enterprise, creating a product out of nothing that pays for itself.
Instead of what appears like social/cultural (perhaps intellectual) snobbery… Perhaps they should be looking at the creativity/invention of the entertainment industry as a template.
Meanwhile, speaking of healthcare professionals. In the thick of the Covid pandemic…. Healthcare professionals abroad sacrificed and slept at hospitals, Nigerian doctors went on strike - enough said! >
Transcript: It’s been long. We started after Zamfara state was created
Q: Why did you go into banditry? We took up arms because we are herdsmen and despite this country’s wealth, we were not carried along, we are not educated, we don’t know anything.
We do not have security, we do not have any benefit. We are the ones being killed, but are always seen as the aggressors.
We don’t have anything. Wherever a herder is, he is uneducated and has nothing. In this country, there is everything, but we are not carried along. It is as though we do not exist. We are just being killed.
A few years ago there was a move to strike a peace deal with you. Why did it collapse?
Of course it has been breached. You asked for armistice and and agreement was reached, but you left that person in the forest with a gun and nothing to substitute. What do you expect? How do yo want that person to survive?
Of all the promises made to us, none was fulfilled. And enroll the young ones in schools, we should be treated the same way. And give them jobs with the government and enrol them in schools. The Hausa, Yoruba and the Fulani should be treated equally.
The president should personally come and preside over the talks. When he was campaigning he would come all over. Why won’t he do that now? He does not take the peace talks seriously and everybody are being killed. There is no day that someone is not killed between Zamfara, Niger, Kaduna, Sokoto and Katsina. No two days pass without someone getting killed in those places.
There is no tribe that is spared. Gunmen kill, soldiers kill, vigilantes kill. Whoever you see with him today in Nigeria, he uses it to kill people. You may not know but if I were to tell you the situation of things in this country, you will cry. Even the president will cry.
We supported this administration and accepted dialogue, because we thought that he (Buhari) will fix this country, but he won’t fix this country. From the time he praised Goodluck, Obasanjo and the late Yaradua, … these were not praiseworthy.
It would be better if he had praised Abacha because under Abacha pastoralists were being educated. In Abacha’s time there was allocation in the budget for nomadic communities. There was no such thing again since Obasanjo became president.
Q: So you think since the transition to civilian rule, Fulani communities haven’t been taken care of?
They stopped looking after them (Fulani). Their forests and grazing areas were taken over. You’ll see one person having as much as 1,000 hectares just because he is rich.
Only in Nigeria will bandits and MURDERERS be passing out grades for leadership….smh. >
GeneralPula: This is sad to see, but I won't buy the story they cooked..
Kidnappers don't operate like that.
Them talk say her breast small? If them be kidnappers true true, they won't say such. If they can't have her breast, then her head and puccy would have gone...I said this based on kidnappers stories I've read on Nairaland..
To me, it seems like a hookup girl trying to steal from her client. Them beat her and throway her comot window. I said this cuz majority of hookup girls working on island normally have stealing intentions.
> So you’re more ready to believe a MISOGYNISTIC version of events that you totally made up in your head? Nairaland’s tribe of PRIMITIVE MISOGYNISTS always looking to find a way to blame female victims for someone else’s barbarism.
Even if every single nonsense you conjured up in your MISOGYNISTIC head was true… So it justifies multiple stabbings and (to use your CRUDE words) “throway her commot window”?! SMDH >
Eriokanmi: A lot is happening in that lekki axis on a regular basis. Those who get home safe daily don't seem to appreciate what God has done for them.
Lemme share a brief story here. Our technician's friend does POP work. He was coming home from site with his colleague from lekki one night. They left around 10pm, to escape the traffic. On getting to Obalende, the vehicle started overheating. His partner advised they stop to attend to it but he said the area wasn't safe, everywhere was dry and dark. On getting to 3rd mainland bridge the engine stopped. They checked underneath the vehicle, only to find out that the radiator was leaking water. They opened the lid to allow it cool but then, they couldn't get off the bridge to get water. It was in the middle of the ocean. This time, it was around 1am after they had pushed it a distance. The other guy said , let's kuku stay inside the vehicle since it's morning already because they couldn't push the car up to oworonshoki, the nearest bus stop. So, the guy who drove the car suggested they slept underneath the vehicle instead of remaining inside that it was risky. No sooner did they lay underneath the vehicle than a black prado jeep passed them and parked a few distance away. One guy was seen approaching them. How they managed to escape was a miracle. The guy beamed his torch light inside the vehicle only, without looking underbeath. They almost fainted. The guy now went back to the jeep.
All of a sudden, they dragged out one girl whom they heard shouting...please, please don't kill me. Suddenly they beheaded this girl, removed her beasts , private part and put it inside a black nylon while they looked on, then zoomed off after throwing her body inside the lagoon. I didn't believe our technician until the day he invited his friend who narrated the story. He said he went to church for thanksgiving because those guys would have also killed them if he had seen them.
Some things happen in unbelievable ways. Even when it happened, the victim would he wondering. In the face of death, you can desperately attempt anything, just to escape, weather it would work out or not.
Not to detract from the story, but what has it got to do with Lekki? Meanwhile, anyone sleeping in a car in an isolated/deserted area almost ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD is courting trouble! >
Why has the community leaders not used the same “spirituality” to uncover unknown gunmen? Many Nigerians will do anything for money. Rather than seek investigation, they’re defending Senator for “transport” money! >
This MURDERER is still running around and running his mouth…smh
Meanwhile, how stupid can anyone be that someone is literally dying and you say you do not have “permission” to touch him? That’s the sort of STUPID people and STUPIDITY that pervade the halls of authority in Nigeria. What would happen if you disobeyed and SAVED him?! >
Renforce: Kindly remove "realist" from your name. You are utterly brainless
Your juvenile insults merely reveal a lack of substance and a crude family upbringing…
The reason EPL and other football players earn SEVERAL times more than surgeons, etc., is not their importance/priority… It is because the PRIVATE enterprise they are involved in generates many times more (even creates jobs/wealth for others).
The REALITY is that entertainment (including BBN) is PRIVATE enterprise that generates MILLIONS in revenue… It not only generates revenue for the creators, but JOBS for designers, architects, producers, builders, artisans, technicians, etc. >
WesternOligarch: Can't understand why black people love to flaunt wealth.
Abegi, quit making SELF-HATING RACIST comments… EVERY race flaunts wealth (“Crazy Rich Asians”, Arabs, Caucasians), it’s just a matter of INDIVIDUAL inclination. >
Fairandlovely: What do u expect when it has nothing to do with BBN
Factfinder1: Nigeria...while Bbnaija participants go home with millions of naira, cars, houses, and endorsement deals just for fornicating on tv for 3 months .....Shane of a nation....I see those graduates becoming unknown gun men because of how messed up the country has become...this I have seen
Renforce: How much BBN winner dey collect again? Make we see priorities
No! It's not an error. I saw similar stuff in my uniben brochure then. E no concern me Shar cos I no near first class
rita25: but if u naked show NYASH for big brother nigeria you will get millions cars and endorsement deals...........................the land is finished...indeed there was a country
Abegi, quit hating on PRIVATE enterprise… If people like you spent MILLIONS of Naira watching/voting on UNN exams, they’ll get BBN-type cash! >
Reelmii: The festac residents should be ready for the increase in robbery and kidnapping .... Infact, that whole Express road from mile 2, any body passing there should take any thing they see there
Abegi, Nigerians should stop this RUBBISH mentality… An orderly, lawful society creates MORE economic opportunities than a disorderly lawless one! >
rectitude: Creating more problems and less solutions have been the order of the day with the leadership of this country. The traders are now left to their fate.
Why can't there be a provisional market that these traders can be moved to before demolishing the shops they toiled so hard to acquire.
Only God can help us now.
Frankly, I have mixed feelings here… As human beings we are empathetic, but society really shouldn’t be “rewarding” rule-breakers. Like kidnapping, it merely encourages more. >
boom99: Hardship continues. They were given 7days to move out. I went through those places yesterday, I literally wept for the thousands of families that were affected. I wonder how they would cope going forward.
Ishilove: One week is too short a time frame to give them. Lagos is run by an elitist government that does not care for the hoi polloi.
FHA has been giving these guys notice for SEVERAL YEARS now… I remember when they tried to do PPP for Festac Town Phase II, they gave notice and it was IGNORED! >
Reelmii: Where do they want the traders to move too
We are always quick to demolish, but to build go take us another 10yrs,, what is their reason for demolishing a market ?
I am not even sure 23 road market is still existing
I heard they destroyed Aguda market too....
Why wont crime rate increase
They shouldn’t have been there in the first place… And sand-filing the place rendered other areas flood-prone.
Nigeria will never advance until we abide by basic laws, rules and regulations… We always accuse the elite of impunity but it actually runs THROUGHOUT society.
Every single space in Lagos is turned into a market these days… Sidewalks, traffic islands, bus stops, etc., and then we complain about chaos and filth. >
Do you have good roads, running tap water, green areas ( please don’t count the jungles surrounding it)?
Festac is a slum
Festac used to have green areas (and obviously good roads and tap water)… It therefore sounds like what the government is trying to restore. Kudos to them. >
mfm04622: Look at someone that committed a crime and is happy to say so! He claimed they sandfilled the swamp! The place is supposed to be a swamp to absorb water! I blame the govt sha! If they have prosecuted people that sandfilled swamps, they won't be bold to be holding a press conference
Bless you! Didn’t even see your comment before I made mine above… Sand-filling the buffer zone (not “Buffa Zone”) made other areas flood-prone. >
EXCELLENT! Nigeria might eventually stop being a nation of ANYHOWNESS.
Btw, the area is NOT “Buffa Zone” but rather a designated buffer zone… Sand-filing it, as the traders boasted, merely diverted water flow and made other areas flood-prone! >
ChukwuObe: They call Nigeria "zoo" yet they can't stop to represent her at the international stage. They hate the country with passion yet they refuse to go on their own accord. They desire to have their own country but never intend to leave the nation they loathe as they still want to hold back to what they claim to own in the zoo. They never want to associate with anything relating to Nigeria yet they refuse to throw her identity (passport) away. Only the irredeemable creatures like the Devil possess such characters. What a shame!
Abegi quit calling people “devil” simply because they’re different from (or disagree with) you. That’s just DESPICABLE! >
Taich: They may be legitimately seeking for greener pasture, I have lived in all parts of the country, some of our problems can be solved if we integrate enough. Okada business is more profitable in Imo state than it is in Nasarawa, there more opportunities for unskilled labour in the South than in the North. The chief cause of migration is for economic reason, until the economy of Nigeria bounces back, we will continue to see an increase in the number unskilled youths migrating from North to South.
In a country with a 200m population to feed… Able-bodied youths shouldn’t be short of work opportunities, if they’re ready to get their hands dirty.
Also for a nation that routinely import artisans from Benin Rep, Togo, etc… Able-bodied youth can carve out a nice living by investing less that the cost of an Okada bike in basic artisanal skills. >
suarezteeth: These guys are going for Okada business... This is the same way my cousin came from nasarawa to ibadan... The driver told them, he would be be coming on a particular day and they all gathered at kefi. He's been here with me for over a month... He didn't collect any number from them, everyone left to his destination that day... He even told me he won't recognize any of them even if he comes across anyone... Please release them... They don't even know themselves apart from here
They’re probably going to try Okada business… And yet I would be shocked if there’s more than 1 or 2 valid driver’s licenses (if at all) among the lot of them.
Good thing BSO is banning/discouraging Okada… Or they will all likely be headed to an underbridge and/or orthopedic ward here in Lagos >
FalseProphet1: I see Europeans, Americans and Asians relocating to Mars by 2023, I see them leaving earth for Africans, I see Africans killing each other to inherit their properties in their various countries, I see the survivors enslaving one another, I see girls being possessed forcefully by the dominant clan, I see them destroying everything the whites built in their various countries, I see them returning the world back to the Stone age.
