Amoto94: The issue of technology is different from that of the human biology you don't joke play with the human body under the guise of promoting technology. In the 60s or so some people said the milk of mothers is unsafe for newborn babies and introduced baby formula and those who bought into the nonsense ended harming themselves and their children. Look at the issue of GMO for instance the FDA has since place a restriction on it in USA and some other countries did the same, we know how it's touted as a great scientific breakthrough that will help in ending food insecurity and promote healthy living but the reverse is the case in most cases. So, this recent attempt by profiteers to market a bad product as safe and healthy is dead on arrival to me and should be resisted by the authorities. The data and research findings will decide. As far as I know, cultured meats aren't generally currently regarded as a healthier and safer alternative to organic meats. |

Trevor012: I always find animal rights activists stance on eating animals stupid and hypocritical. That's because you're a Nigerian and your cultural values don't have special interests in or regard for animals. In some cultures, people regard certain animals with special affection and/or respect. Examples are how some Indians see cows as a sacred symbol of life, meant to be protected and revered; Americans love and cherish their pets, dogs and cats; some Ibos and even Indians and Australians consider it a taboo to kill certain snake species. There are numerous other examples. I don't see how these beliefs are stupid, especially coming people that believe in all sort of religious, superstitious myths. |

https://medicalxpress.com/news/2019-11-cultured-meat-problems.html
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7020248/ The articles address cogent health and environmental issues that lab-grown meats present. Apparently, cultured meat technologies need a lot of optimization before they can be considered a healthier, safer and better alternative to the traditional methods of meat production. More research still needs to be done on potential effects of growing meats in labs on health and the environment. With ingenuity and creativity, it's possible to find better, healthier, and more environmental-friendly methods of producing meats artificially. But the currently available techniques aren't sustainable. In the past, humans thought feats like electricity, airplanes, mobile phones, Internet, and a slew of other breakthroughs are not achievable; however, history has proven them wrong. The same thing, I think, will happen in this case as well. |

Amoto94: This is bad news for healthy living and good news for pharmas. The argument of animal rights activists that eating animals is cruelty based on the fact that we are taking their lives holds no water because plants and the other alternatives they're presenting have lives too. How are cultured meats bad for the health? Cultured meats are grown in the lab and the process doesn't involve slaughtering of animals. Please, learn more about they're synthesized here: https://culturedbeef.org/what-cultured-meatScientists will also create cultured foods (lab-grown rice, beans, wheat, maize, and others) in the future, provided these alternatives don't have any adverse health implications. That will save plants from being harvested for food. I see plants as living things that also have consciousness like humans, and animals as living organisms with consciousness. Just that, human consciousness is starkly different and unique from animal consciousness and plant consciousness. However, the fields of animal consciousness and plant consciousness still remain undeveloped. Even, we barely understand human consciousness, let alone plant consciousness or animal consciousness. As humans study and understand nature better, the way we eat and live will evolve. |

Your OP is obviously from your functional experiences and it's flawed as your thoughts about religion is inaccurate. Take that to the learning table again. A wise person will try to get the book he mentioned above and read it. I see you don't know much about Otem. (I only know little about him as well, but I have seen enough to rate his book very highly.) His source for writing the book is Atum, the ancestor of ancient Egyptians that created ancient Egypt, taught them how to build the pyramids and other technologies. If you consider the facts that ancient Egypt, a cradle of civilization, used to be a superpower in the olden days just like the US is today and that many Greek philosophers, who played key roles in laying the foundations of science and technology, traveled to Egypt for education purpose, then you'll realize Otem or his claims aren't to be taken lightly. Ancient Egyptians were black people and Africans that called their country Kemet, not Arabs currently occupying it now. |

OJURONGBE1: It cannot make sense to a reprobate mind of yours. How religion made Nigerian consuming economy rather than a producing nation with vast hectares of fertile land to grow foods, you need to tell me.
How religion made the electorates to infuse sentiment into their choice of leadership when there are well read, well travelled development & policy experts overlooked for leadership positions, you need to tell me.
How religion brought decay into our educational system by making professors & lecturers averse to new ways of teaching & reject modern devices because they are too conservative. Please broach this .
You need to tell me how religion blindsided your patronage towards foreign fashion when you can actually buy Aba -made leathers & wears to grow the naira. Please tell me the fault of religion in this. Religion is the main culprit in all these issues you highlighted because the majority of Nigerians worship foreign gods imposed on them by the white colonial masters and Arab conquerors. There are two ways of colonizing or conquering a people: physically through wars and invasions, and mentally through the use of religion (this is the worst of the two). Thus, even though Nigeria became independent 61 years ago of British rule, the country is still in mental slavery due to the citizens worshipping the same gods introduced to them by their colonial masters. I thought it would be glaring to any rational thinker that if you want to colonize a people, you surely can't give them effective systems of education and religion. But it's surprising when many Nigerians would credit the whites for providing our forefathers with education and religion, without seeing the fact that truly educated people can't remain in slavery. So, when the British missionaries built schools in Nigeria in the 19th century, they knew what they were doing. "Education makes a people easy to lead, but difficult to drive; easy to govern, but impossible to enslave,” says Henry Peter Brougham. But looking at the history of Nigeria, it's clear most Nigerians are just schooled (indoctrinated to think like a slave that despises his culture), not educated. Schooling, reading to pass exams and earn a certificate, is different from education, teaching a person how to think. You don't expect a country with the bulk of the citizens mentally enslaved and mentally lazy to have the ingenuity and critical thinking skills required to be a production-centric economy, not consumption-centric. You don't expect a people that have deep-seated hatred for their ancestors, culture, and traditions to be productive and innovative. A river that forgets its source will dry up, says a Nigerian parable. An average Nigerian dislikes giving their kids native names, hates putting on native wears, but you don't know that the foreign religions are the problem, and hardly can such a country become great. It all starts from the brain and one's values. The brain is everything, and if a person is in the mental slavery of religion, they can't achieve greatness. The day religious texts (the Bible and Qur'an) start to lose their value in the eyes of many Nigerians and many churches and mosques are demolished or converted to research institutes or schools, that's when Nigeria will start growing. |

Amoto94: Unknown to the fool that religion is/was responsible for most if not all essential foundations for scientific breakthrough but in his mischievous mind he can't think of anything else other than to blame religious people for the woes bedevilling the world. If he was duped by alfa oni jalabi in the past due to his foolishness he shouldn't transfer the anger and frustration to others. Of course, religion is responsible for almost all essential foundations of scientific breakthroughs when Christianity, from whom your prophet copied many parts of Qur'an from, killed and maimed thousands of early philosophers, scientists, and freethinkers over a thousand years ago, when Islam was still a local religion and Allah a local moongod in Arabia. (To black history buffs, Allah has always been a local moongod anyway.) I can see how religion is helping to lay the foundations of science in Nigeria when many brilliant scientists, most of which are freethinkers, are forced to leave the country annually, since terrorists and their cohorts like you will lynch them at any slight opportunity you get for saying the hard truths about Sharia. Does Nigeria even engage in science in the real sense of it? The way you rush to comment on a subject you're clearly ignorant about is appalling. Well, that isn't always surprising. Slaves of Arabs are infamous for twisting historical facts to suit the parochial, religious agenda of their slavemasters in Saudi. It's rare to see a person well-versed in history who is a slave. So, your poor knowledge of the history of science doesn't come as a surprise. If religion has done anything in science, it's only to put a cap on the achievements of scientists over the past half a millennium, a conundrum resulting in circumscribed growth of science — human's greatest invention to study and understand nature. |

The Tokunboh cars are imported using dollars.
The Chinese knock off spare parts are purchased using dollars
Your phone, screen guards, covers, chargers, usb cords, flash drives, laptops, laptop bags, are purchased with dollars
90% of our drugs are purchased with dollars
Should we talk about generators, gas cylinders, inverters, clippers? All in dollars.
I'm going to far... Our Toothpicks, Balloons, fancy slippers, dresses, are mostly imported. Still the same dollars.
Nigeria is fvvked already. I don't even think Abokifx is part of the problem in any way. We virtually produce almost nothing. So the demand for dollar is so high[/color] We produce prayers, juju, fake miracles, and fake testimonies, all of which amount to nothing in reality. When there are too many religious people (mentally enslaved citizens) in a country, that's what you get: massive under-development. |

Konquest: ^^^^^^ ^^^^^^ @Africaman Hello to you.
Awesome... Thanks for this feedback on early Yoruba history! Prof Akin Osuntokun even said there were already existing or autochtonous communities in the Ondo axis at the time of Oduduwa's arrival so Oduduwa's arrival simply refers to the beginning of a new Dynasty and NOT that he was the PROGENITOR of the Yorubas. A new Dynasty he said should not be confused with the beginning or origins of the people! He was the one who first opened my eyes to the real history of the Yoruba area in 2004 because I didn't know that FACT before.
I will get Prof Banji Akintoye book "A History of the Yoruba People" Hardcover by Stephen Adebanji Akintoye that you recommended.
I should be able to get it at MMA2 or Lagos Airport Hotel Book stores when I pass through. I have seen some massive history books on sale on a wide range of issues at MMA2 from all over the world before.
He is a well-spoken historian of repute in Nigeria who I have heard speak on Channels TV online before.
Incidentally he will be on Channels TV with Lado Akeredolu-Ale at 9 PM [Nigerian time] today on the program called NEWSNIGHT. I saw a preview of the program and look forward to watching it online. Very brilliant man who also speaks extempore or offhand with facts and figures.
I first came across the reference to Ikedu traditions in 1991 in a magazine called roots and I shred the scanned copy with just 2 people on NL. If I check my Google Drive later on I can share that article with you.
There is indeed more to know via archaelogy and radio carbon 14 dating and also DNA sequencing on the history of the Yoruba people pre- and post Oduduwa.
Thanks again for the feedback!
P.S. Don't forget to watch Channels at 9AM Nigerian time for the interview with Prof. Banji Akintoye tonight. Do you have a soft copy of Prof Akintoye book? If so, kindly send it to sciphya@gmail.com Thanks. |
