Defense is more IQ and fundamentals than raw physicality. But physicality is definitely a much needed tool. You can see the teams that were able to beat the Warriors were the teams that were able to get physical, now compare to how physical teams got back then and you see the difference is clear.

Jordan was a beast on the defensive end. I remember Barkley describing him as a panther waiting to pounce on any chance when he was defending. He only stopped guarding the best perimeter player when Pippen became elite.

Jordan still guarded the best perimeter player on opposing sides but in shorter spurts than Pippen did.
