The Nuggets hire Brian Shaw! He comes with a big reputation learning under Phil Jackson and helping the Pacers build the best defense in the league

Doc to the Clippers should be interesting it remains to be seen if Pierce and KG him

Even Caviliers won't even budge undecided
Loool he's just holding out for a pay rise and who can blame him? He's earned it at least based on how he played in the regular season, the playoffs were another story

The draft is also coming up! Not much star potential this year Nerlens Noel,Cody Zeller and Victor Oladipo seems to be the most talked about guys

I hope Darcis enjoyed his 15 minutes of fame! He can now fade back to irrelevance. Anyway it shows you have to break a shoulder to beat Nadal

Passing Shot: @ A-40 ^^^^^^ It's evidently clear that you can twist facts to suit you. First you claimed that it was only Hewit who was able to beat Nadal when Nadal was 19 or so. Now that I proved you wrong you're changing it to slam wins! Pathetic and with this I give up on you.
You are just talking noise! Nadal's record against Nalbandian and Roddick is a combined 13-5
Assuming I was wrong you are still a strawman for bringing up two players that Nadal has taken to the cleaners times without number! Even Hewitt has a losing record against the Matador

Passing Shot: You even say "rankings are rubbish" because I've proved you wrong again. So in your world, we should determine who is better by looking at H2H. Then, Lukas Rosol and darcis are better than Nadal! In fact all those who have winning record against him (be it 1 -0, 2-1, 3-2) are better than him according to your warpped reasoning!

You know NOTHING about tennis my friend. I GIVE UP ON YOU.
Proven me wrong or exposed how little you know by comparing two entirely different scenarios together? Do you draw in tennis? Would you win grandslams and major tournaments without beating everyone put in front of you

What a simpleton! Rosol and Darcis have 12 Grand Slams between them ba? They also have an olympic gold medal and almost 60 ATP titles? Plus they've played with Nadal 30 times! can you now see your one-dimensional way of thinking?

biolabee: seems a40 just wants to stick to his POV....

Nadal has a better head to head than Fed...
he is better yay!
Noo you are ignoring all the other points I raised and focusing on only one anyway I'm sure you are still upset my boy Nadal denied Djoker his career slam again!
BTW Mr Nadal is a clay specialist and only good on clay please tell us how he has been able to get to 5 Wimbledon Finals
Also tell us what surface he won gold in Beijing
Sports › Re: Tennis ATP/WTA: DAVIS CUP 2013 THREAD... by A40(m): 1:25pm On Jun 26, 2013
Passing Shot: 1. Stop spewing lies all over my friend. Nalbandian has two wins over Nadal (Paris 2007 and Madrid 2007), Roddick has 3 wins over him ( USO 2004, UAE 2008 and Miami 2010), Hewitt has 3 wins over him as well. So where are you getting your info from?
I'm talking major slams you are talking ATP 500 tourneys! Which of these guys did Nadal not beat at least twice bar Hewitt?
Which of these duels are you trying to compare to how badly Nadal has been sonning Federer?

Passing Shot: 2. Can you please list the achievements of Federer that Nadal has surpassed? Waiting....
Show us Federer's Olympic gold medal also tell us how old Federer was when he completed his career slam compared to Nadal

Passing Shot: 3. You do not have to accept that Federe is head and shoulder above Nadal. However, you will do well to acknowledge his unmatched and unlikely to be surpassed achievements.
His competition was shyte! Thank God for Nadal! Who knows how many grand slams Federer would have won against shitty competitors

Passing Shot: 4. Why can't you be the greatest in your era just because of a losing record against a rival? You must be really funny in real life! By the way, do you consider Federer to belong to the same era as Nadal? If so, it's even worse for Nadal that his "greatest rival" was able to amass 17 slams while he's still lagging far behind at 12 and losing to journeymen in tennis (Soderling, Rosol, Hanescu and ... who knows who's next to blow him off the court).
Its an individual sport! Ali would not be the greatest if he lost to Foreman,Frazier,Norton all the times they clashed. How can you be the best with a 33% winning percentage against your rival! Its pathetic!

Amass 17 slams? Of course he would amass them by beating all the average joes I mentioned earlier!
Despite Nadal losing to journeymen he is still 20-10 against the so-called greatest and has single handedly denied him 8 grandslams! 8!

Passing Shot: Lastly, my EPL example is perfect in this situation. The fact that both use accumulated points to decide end-of-year champion is all that matters. When you lose a football match, you lose ranking points just as you lose points when you crash out of tennis tornaments. When you win in both you accumualte points which determine your ranking and earning. So what's your point?
Rankings are rubbish!! Caroline Wozniacki was world number 1 for eons without a grand slam to her name! Almost 70 weeks on top with only one GS Final to show for it! EPL rankings are far more consequential and far more relevant than the ATP or WTA rankings! Tennis is not a round robin game I reiterate don't use it as an example here it is waaaaay off the mark
Sports › Re: Tennis ATP/WTA: DAVIS CUP 2013 THREAD... by A40(m): 11:57am On Jun 26, 2013
Passing Shot: And it is disrespecting for you to dismiss players like Hewitt, Rodick, Haas, Nalbandian as you just did. These are very good players who are capable of winning slams at their peak. If not for Federer, those players could have won at least 2-3 GS titles each. If my memory serves me right, I think they all have a W against Nadal and that was not even at their peak.
Hewitt,Roddick,Haas?? How do they stack up to Nadal and Djokovic or even Murray! That they weren't able to win more Grand-slams says more about their failures than Federer's greatness
Lmaooo only Hewitt could boast of beating Nadal and back then he was wait for it. . . . 19

Passing Shot: Lol at the bolded. Another irrelevant small picture. How and when has it become a factor, the time someone achieved a result. FYI Federer started winning GS at a relatively late age (his first was 2003 when he was 22 or 23 yrs).
It is a factor because one is older than the other by approximately 5 years! And Nadal has surpassed most of Federer's achievements at similar age. Whose fault is it that Federer started winning late? Certainly not Nadal's

Passing Shot: My final submission on this unnecessary argument is this analogy: Manchester United dominates other teams in the EPL but they do not have a good H2H record against Arsenal and Chelsea. ManU lifts the trophy 5 times in 7 years whereas their greatest rivals (Chelsea and Arsenal) have 2 trophies within the same time. So, does it make sense to argue that Chelsea and Arsenal are better than ManU? I leave you with the answer.
Look no one is going to wind up convincing the other to change his stance but I don't see the use of your football analogy here it doesn't stand up to scrutiny at all! Tennis is not a round-robin sport so when you lose to your rival you are out!! Anyway Nadal is younger and "if" he avoids injuries its fairly certain that he would surpass Federer's 17 grand slam wins! This is why every Nadal loss or injury is greeted with jubilant cheer

Passing Shot: It's important to remind you that Federer plays tennis not because of Nadal. Just as I am almost sure that Nadal will agree that he does not play tennis because of Federer. So using one's performance against the other one is MYOPIC at the least.
EOD.
You can't be the greatest in your era when you are 10-20 and 2-8 against your biggest rival! Impossicant!

elampiro: How important are great penalty scorers to teams success.

In so many arguments here we have seen some comments trying to downgrade goals from penalties. Penalties have to be won, taken and scored. Sometimes enormous tension and nervousness follow when a penalty is won and before it is taken. It is particularly a big moment for the penalty taker as the burden, load, and pressure of scoring the penalty has to fall on the shoulder of one player who takes the glory or blame for the outcome. We have seen many goals which were scored from a simple tap-in with the goal keeper displayed and they were much easier than penalties.

We heard Pele scored 1,000 goals plus, not Pele scored 900 goals plus 100 penalties. We heard Messi and Ronaldo scored certain number of goals which broke records, but not Ronaldo and Messi broke records with xyz goals with z penalties part of it. We have not heard how many penalties are part of Lampards record as the highest Chelsea's midfield scorer of all time.

Most great players have missed penalties and even some of the missed penalties could have changed the outcome of the match.

1. Maradonna missed a penalty in the world cup.

2. Messi missed a penalty against Chelsea that would have shot Barcelona to the UCL final of last year.

3. Ronaldo missed a penalty against Chelsea in UCL final 2008. He missed against Bayern Munich in last year's UCL semi final. He had scored 13 in the league before the match, and these 13 goals added to his statistics towards a FIFA best player award, also the gaols formed part why Madrid were on the verge of winning the league at the time. Had he scored that penalty, he would have gone home a complete hero and in a much better position to contest for the FIFA best player. It would have meant he played his part to the full, unlike Messi who missed against Chelsea. Look at the way CNN captioned it 'Ronaldo went from hero to zero'. http://edition.cnn.com/2012/04/25/sport/football/football-champions-league-madrid-bayern .
He was criticised for not taking one of the early penalties against Spain in EURO 2012.

4. Drogba missed two penalties in two AFCON that would have helped Ivory Coast.

5. Robben missed in the UCL final last year late in the regulation time that should have taken his team to instant UCL glory.

We can go all and all.

Being a penalty taker for the team means the coach has so much trust in you, it is a great responsibility that even many players run away from. You have to be calm, intelligent and calculative. You have to be able to shoot accurately and you have to be able to move your body and feet in such away to send the goalkeeper the wrong way.

In summary, I can say penalty taking is more difficult than a third of other chances which strikers score from. Penalty taking is usually left in the hands of strikers who have confidence in their abilities and whom coaches have so much trust in.

But you know your boy Rooney is arguably one of the worst high volume penalty takers in the league

Tell us why the King is 10-20 against his biggest rival

Passing Shot: When we counter, you come up with more irrelevant smaller pictures. We look at the bigger picture which is the total number of slams won, dominance over the field for so long a time, grace and style (as opposed sheer force), etc, etc.
Dude, we can discuss about Nadal being as good as Federer only when he has won 6 more slams (i.e. without Federer winning more along the line) which will take his total to 18 slams. Even when this happens, you'll still have a lot of convincing to do to win the argument. grin grin grin grin grin
Smaller picture? What is the smaller picture? Federer is five years older than Nadal so is it abnormal that he has 5 more slams? Grace and style? (That's for romantics and even that is subject to opinion! Some of us actually like the matador like style of Nadal)
What none of you has been able to tell me is why Nadal was able to complete his career slam 4 years earlier than Federer. Its ok I'll wait. . . . . . . . . . . . .

Passing Shot: e the final of the clay court events compared to Nadal who was always nowhere to be found at the business end of hard court events - especially during Federer's peak.
Why not tell us why Federer has been unable to beat Nadal on clay? Even while Nadal was a rookie

Passing Shot: And I ask again, since 2009 Wimby and apart from Garos where Federer made the final in 2011, in which other Grand Slam have they met? Whether you accept it or not, Nadal's H2H record against Federer is largely because Federer almost always made the final of the clay court swing including RG's 5 straight finals! On the other hand Nadal was hardly lasting till the business end of the hard court events during the same period which could have afforded Federer opportunities to avenge some of the losses.
Loool! You have forgotten Australian Open bah? The one where Federer had almost 24 hour rest time on Nadal and still lost! And was crying like a girl jilted on prom night grin grin
Nadal has beaten Federer on his strongest surfaces at his peak!! Whereas peak Federer would not beat a one-legged Nadal on clay

Passing Shot: When I used "arrived" I expected you to understand that I was not referring to age. 2 players may be of the same age but develop and mature at different age. Nadal started winning Grand Slams far early than Djocko and Murray even though they are of the same age group. However they may end up with about the same number of trophies as Nadal as Nadal will most likely end his playing career earlier while they still carry on for many years after his exit.
Are you ifa or orunmila? How do you know this for sure? Can you bet on it? Djokovic turned pro 03 Nadal 01! So the difference isn't as large as you paint it! And do you really think Andy Murray would finish with 12 Grand Slams? Bwahahahaha

Passing Shot: Yes, you may say "... Nadal owns Federer" blah blah blah. But it is a fact that Federer owns the Field! And that includes all the professional tennis players who make up the field. Hope you get the gist.

All Hail The King. Roger That.
Nadal has a superior H2H record to all of his 3 major rivals. Federer,Djoker and Murray
Federer: 20-10 (8-2 in grandslams) if you even take out the French Open wins you still have 3-2 in favor of Nadal
Djokovic: 20-15
Murray: 13-5

Nadal completed the career slam at 24 Federer couldn't manage that till he was 28! Nadal has an Olympic gold Federer doesn't!! Injury permitting Nadal would surpass Federer

Passing Shot: I can't argue that Nadal does not "own Federer". At least the only parameter to judge is the H2H which is heavily skewed in Nadal's favour. However, federer owns "the field" since he has more GS titles than any one of the rest.
Well Federer has 5 years on Nadal and 6 on Djokovic
and Murray but remember Federer has not beaten Nadal at a Grand slam since 07! 07 people!

Passing Shot: @ the bolded, Nadal has more GS titles than Djocko and Murray is only because he "arrived" earlier than the 2 of them. Doesn't mean he will end up with more by the time their career is over. And he has benefitted more in slowing down of all courts as well.

Passing Shot: And when last did they meet in a grand slam? I still maintain that the Fed has all it takes to take him down in Winbledon irrespective of their H2H. Federer has a way of shutting doubters up especially when he's discounted. Think of semi final of Garos 2011 against Djockovic when no one gave him a chance of ending Djocko's unbeaten run and incredible year. Think of last year when everyone that mattered in Tennis didn't believe he could do the combo over Djocko and Murray.
I agree he's past his prime but write him off at your own risk.
French Open 2011! You don't get it! Nadal owns Federer! Ever since Nadal beat Federer at Wimbledon the writing was on the wall the final straw was at the Aussie Open when Federer was in tears! Nadal has broken his spirit more than Djokovic or Murray can! Don't assume because he beat Djokovic n Murray the same theory can hold for Nadal! There's a reason why Nadal holds 5 more grand slams than both of them combined! Because he is vastly better

AjanleKoko: Hmm.
Truth is, if Thiago goes to Man United, or maybe even Bayern, and has a great season, he stands a good chance of displacing the likes of Mata, Fabregas, or even Silva. Thiago doesn't play in the same position as Busquets or Alonso.

When did Silva become a serious regular in the Spanish side, or Busquets? Busquets in particular, after one full season with Barca's first team (2009-10), went to the World Cup and played in every game as a starter.

You guys are just refusing to look at it from the player's point of view. Try to be objective a little.
Silva is actually a Spanish Natl team OG! At least as at 07/08 he was already a regular.
Busquets really was not in direct competition with anyone he more or less replaced Marcos Senna. I think the situation is different for Thiago and to be honest if he's serious about going to the Brazil 2014 World Cup he might as well change nationality! Spain is just too loaded at his position and even a change of club may not help his chance all the same he's entitled a fighting chance and I'm sure that's why he is so desperate to leave! By slashing his release clause Barca has only given him more leverage
