Most of them were hits in the mid 80’s. I am a huge music fan, and while I don’t play in clubs in the UK. I do my bit for house parties. Most of the tracks listed here have been covered (sampled) by today’s artists. Funk music of the 80s was the real deal. And still is…

Culture / Re: Where Are The Igbos, Hausas And Other Non-Yorubas? by ababoy1(m): 12:46pm On Jan 15, 2006
So this is 'condescending'. No matter what you do, someone will complain.

This is a pointless topic, and it is in danger of turning into the very thing it was supposedly meant to curb. There is no need to defuse any allegation. You can always perceive tribalism from statements made by those who are of such mind. And no matter how hard one tries, it can’t be wished away. The Igbos should and are big enough to understand this and move on.

Once again I think that a topic like this is very patronising, even if the intentions are real.
Culture / Re: Where Are The Igbos, Hausas And Other Non-Yorubas? by ababoy1(m): 8:23pm On Jan 14, 2006
Someone told me that Nairaland is a predominantly Yoruba forum and that we discriminate against the Igbos in particular.

Nothing new there, but frankly – who cares, we can give as well as we get, so no wahala. Most of us don’t wallow in any preconceived ‘victim or marginalised’ status. A lot of us have moved way ahead of such labels. And frankly, we chuckle at those that always desire to leap into subjects that have to do with us and not them.

Therefore I don’t think there is any need for this condescending act. No-one needs to apologise, just be you. If however you’re main goal was to find out where we all come from. I am Igbo….

Jobs/Vacancies / Your Qualifications & Experience (Company Considering IT Outsourcing) by ababoy1(m): 7:33pm On Jan 12, 2006
Folks, I hope I am not raiding anyone’s discretion.

For those with an interest, and this is only for those in IT\telecoms - based in Nigeria. Can you please list your qualifications or work experience. I work for a company that MAY soon consider outsourcing to Nigeria. I use the word, MAY, because that is what it is at the moment. Most of our work goes to TATA consulting Services. And I don’t want to raise anyone’s hopes without cause.

In addition, I also freelance for a few smaller IT companies in Nigeria. One difficulty we (or some of the others I know) always come across is finding the right people with the right skills.

See this as a way to get yourself networked. You never know…You just never know…

Be easy on Seun, what he said isn’t unusual. A lot of our folks back home think the same too, sometimes understandably, at times not.

If you can read The Biafra Story - The Making of an Afican Legend, by Frederick Forsyth (Part One - The Road to Partition). The Awolowo, Akintola & Adegbenro saga (aka the wild, wild west) is reasonably documented.

Literature / Re: What Nigerian Books Are You Reading? by ababoy1(m): 5:35pm On Dec 21, 2005
Currently reading “The Biafra Story – The making of an African Legend” by Frederick Forsyth. I recommend it to anyone who wants to read a contemporary narrative of Biafra from start to finish.

After reading all the commentary on this subject, I must avow that there is still hope for Nigeria. It is absolutely pleasant to know that many Nigerians here have not chosen to stick up for a coward whose morals left town a long time ago.

If people in downtown Yenagoa, still see him as a star or a suitable scapegoat, regrettably most of us don’t. This very poor excuse for a man must be detested and kept at arms length. I guess you are not the only one gifted with such talent. It’s rather so easy to catch sight of a Nigerian or Nigerians anyplace. Drop by Oxford Street, or Knightsbridge and it’s so undemanding to spot the Nigerians. Maybe we just see ourselves in them…. Maybe it’s our noisy and unsophisticated deportment. Maybe its because we are so blessed that we so easily stand out. My talents shockingly fail me when it comes to explaining why.

TV/Movies / Re: Americans Don't Watch Nigerian Movies? by ababoy1(m): 1:34pm On Nov 07, 2005
Some Nigerians that I know in the UK watch Nigerian movies (many don’t). One reason why they do so is to express amusement at the poor acting and production.

For my part, I don’t look out for faultlessness. I look out for something distinct. I never both watching movies filled with bogus American twang. I prefer the side-splitting movies, more especially those in Pidgin or Igbo. If I want to watch a good thriller, it surely wouldn’t come from Nigeria. We are not just there yet.
Career / Re: Access/Marina/Capital Banks to Sack All Polytechnic & State University Graduates by ababoy1(m): 5:58pm On Nov 04, 2005
By and large, a good number of current Nigerian graduates – polytechnics or otherwise, leave one purely bewildered with their level of schooling. Nevertheless this decision (if true) shows a very high level of egotism and folly.
