I should have watched the Juventus match, rather than waste my evening watching a very poor pub team - Chelski.

@seun,

This is how you started off,

In addition, pretty yoruba girls are usually also rich and they do not "degrade" themselves by entering beauty pageants

It wouldn’t have been acceptable to let you get away with such a ridiculous statement.

But to your credit, you have made an attempt to clarify your position.

Fashion / Re: Most Beautiful Girl In Nigeria 2006 by ababoy1(m): 10:36pm On Mar 06, 2006
a typical Yoruba mother will develop heart attack and die immediately she sees her daughter strutting in a bikini on TV!

What will kill her, biko?

Seeing a TV for the first time, or seeing the daughter in a bikini on TV.

As much as you are trying to make your folks look and sound morally well positioned, you are on the other hand doing them a huge disfavour, making them look antiquated and laughable.
Fashion / Re: Most Beautiful Girl In Nigeria 2006 by ababoy1(m): 10:28pm On Mar 06, 2006
Folks, Please stop digging.

One can only guess that most Igbo parents score very low on ethics and by implication don’t mind turning their kids into sex objects - not like their decent opposite numbers elsewhere.
Politics / Re: Chief Obafemi Awolowo: National Hero Or Villain? by ababoy1(m): 10:12pm On Mar 06, 2006
@kola, My Chelski Friend

Thanks for your response,

I guess Awo means different things to different people. To some he will always be a hero, to others maybe not so - and to the rest, somewhere in between. I respect the fact that you have properly articulated your views. It will be nice to read other opinions.

@kola

I didn’t expect to offer my views this early in the discussion, and I don’t want to guess why you wanted to know.

But if it will facilitate the discussion, or give you an angle then this is it.

I see Awolowo as a tribal rather than a national hero, something I sometimes wish Zik was.
Politics / Chief Obafemi Awolowo: National Hero Or Villain? by ababoy1(m): 2:06pm On Mar 06, 2006
Nearly everyone I know has an opinion concerning Chief Obafemi Awolowo. Nineteen years after his death he still remains a hero in most of Yorubaland. His contributions to the rapid development (human and material) of the old western region are still unsurpassed even today.

Key Nigerian figures (including Odumegwu Ojukwu) have continued to echo the view that Chief Obafemi Awolowo was the best president the country never had.

Awolowo, according to many Awoists, is what today’s indigenous politician is not: charismatic, visionary, a great planner and economic wizard.

On the other hand, some people simply see him as a nasty piece of work. Survivors of the Biafran War hold Awolowo - the wartime Nigerian minister of finance and deputy chairperson of the war cabinet – responsible for fanatically championing Nigeria's notorious "starvation as weapon/quick kill" strategy on Biafra, which resulted in the death of a huge percent of the total Igbo war casualty including children. They are not quick to forget the £20.00-limit financial/economic strangulation he placed on them immediately after the war, at a time when he instigated the privatisation of many Government owned concerns.

Those that see him as a villain are not limited to the Igbos. He allegedly fell out with MKO, because the latter said he wasn’t a socialist as he made everyone believe, but a clandestine property mogul. (Concord Newspapers & Dideolu Estate come to mind). His spats with Fani-Kayode, OBJ etc are well documented.

A number of political commentators still believe that Awolowo single-handedly pioneered tribalism in Nigerian Politics. It is alleged and not decisively verified that he ‘promised’ to pull the Western region out of Nigeria if the Eastern Region did so, only to ‘chicken’ out when reality dawned on him. This indictment trailed him and somewhat unjustly gave members of his tribe an unwarrantable tag of spinelessness. The assumed strife between the Yoruba & Igbo tribes can – in my view - be traced back to both accusations.

It will be nice to know what the members of this forum think. I expect strong feelings, but at the end of the day we may (and I use that worded guardedly) dispel some of the falsehood that surrounds Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

@kola,

No problem, I am sure you must have enjoyed the total football we (Arsenal) dished out at Fulham yesterday. I am sure somewhere in your heart you must wish Chelski could win in style…

In contrast, Cheski showed once again why they are not good for football. The behaviour of your manager and your Idol (Drogba – a guy who will not even score in a brothel…oops he scored yesterday) still leaves a lot to be desired.

Thanks for increasing your offer. I am sure we will be quite happy to take money off a Chelski fan…, and ……

@Bagoma, Please take note.

Politics / Re: President Obasanjo Is Ready To Die For Nigeria by ababoy1(m): 11:40am On Mar 02, 2006
I don’t specifically see OBJ as a fearless man. Calling him a coward will be a bit too strong, in any case he goes around pronouncing himself as the subjugator(?) of Biafra.

Looking back in time, this was a guy who was so disinclined to take over from MM when he was killed, reports have it that he almost crapped himself when he was asked to take over. Now that could be just chitchat.

Another school of thought has it that he handed over to Shagari quickly, not because he believed in democracy, but because he was fearful ….

I believe this same fear is responsible for him wanting to die(?) for us (i.e. remain in power)

He is unsure of what lies ahead when he loses power. His imaginary bravery has always had a power base behind it….

Personally I would want him to carry on, for the sole reason of fighting corruption -No matter how imperfect or selective. Like him I don’t see true democracy as the way forward for Nigeria. Not at the present time….We simply lack the discipline.

Like I said at an earlier time, I just got to know (see) these guys recently (They don’t make waves here PERIOD) and because of the debate here I have done a bit more research (against my better use of time). The way I form an opinion about professional people is not to position them in categories. In my profession, I am basically a solutions architect, I bridge IT and business. Anyone judging my ability here will use a global yardstick, and not limit my skill (or lack of it) on the basis that I am of Nigerian heritage, irrespective of where I am based.

That is the same way I intend to judge every other professional (footballers, doctors etc). So when I look at these guys, I see music producers. And on that level and in my opinion, these guys still have a long way to go. They may get there one day, but from what I have seen they (or at least one of them) earnestly need an attitude makeover. You can be condescending or inconsiderate about what others think of you if you really have something pleasant to offer.

And this money issue…. I bet there are a lot of us here that aren’t short of a bob or two, so why is it a concern. Or how does it affect the views of others? Having loads of Naira, does that continually equate to success.

If it does…,

A typical Chelski response,

My friend was at Stamford Bridge last night and he also came up with excuses, and when he wasn’t getting anywhere he decided to have a pop at Arsenal.

To set the record straight and stop these ridiculous debates about Arsenal and the pub team down the road - Chelski.

Arrogant, mouthy, pompous - I really dont care. I just dont think they are good for football. A few years ago, Chelsea were nothing short of a Sunday Morning side playing in front of 3000 fans. All all of a sudden they now think they are a big club because of some dodgy money from Russia. Football is all about tradition and building (not buying) success,

For me Chelski are simply the Blackburn of the South,
