Ikenna351: Funny thing about staying anonymous in online forum is that no matter how you want to stay anonymous so that you can claim you own heaven and Earth or how young or old you are, your comments will always prove you otherwise.

How many Peugeots plants do we have in Nigeria for you to say " Lots of Peugeot plants here have shut down" ?

Anything you don't understand or not sure of, ask the elderly ones around you to explain to you, rather than make statements that look ridiculous. In the '80s & '90s in Enugu, about 70% of cars on roads were Japanese cars: Toyota Corolla, Datsun 160,180B,180k, etc. Only people who could afford brand new Peugeot 504s & 505s were rich business guys and mostly senior civil servants. Peugeot 505 (PAN) in the '80s cost about 7-8k. Hoe many Nigerians could afford that amount of money in that decade, let alone have assess to that kind of loan? But today, if you go back to Enugu town, you won't see any of those old Japs on the road anymore. In the '90s, about 90% of Taxis in Enugu town were those Corollas and Datsun. But now, they are all long gone. Yet, today, Peugeot 504 & 505 are still used for inter-state commercial transportation, even 404 pickups.

2 days ago, I had to repark a Toyota Camry 1999 model for someone that blocked another vehicle. The few minutes I stayed behind that wheel worth mentioning here. Each time I touched the accelerator pedal, the car would bounce. Each time I stopped accelerating, the tail would push up. Finally, each time I touched the brake pedal, the car would turn to basket ball. I mean, do people really feel safe driving that car? (No offence to Toyota owners please). How could a car be so weightless that simple acceleration make the car bounce as if it has no atom of weight on it? All my life, I have driven all types of Peugeot cars, both mine and others, both ones with failed shock absorbers and good ones. But never for once have I experienced what happened that day in any of them. Yet people are telling us here how "unsafe" Peugeots are and how safer Toyotas are. What an irony! Go out there, watch as Peugeots and Toyotas pass. Come back and tell us how many Peugeots bounce when the drivers apply the brakes and how many Toyotas do the same. But you want to compare a bouncing basket ball on highway to a drum on highway? Which is safer?

The world must not always be right. That Ferraris and Porsches don't sell that much does not mean your Toyota is better than them in quality. The current state of the world economy has shaped majority mindset to think and remain as misers, forgive me to use that word. Everyone now go for the cheapest, not for the cheap anymore. With that, they remain in that circle and live the rest of their life in quiet desperation. People are so comfortable with pennies they earn monthly rather than look for
other means to create wealth. The older we get, the more we give up on our dreams. So, yes, the world must not always be right. Otherwise, if one is to follow moral standard in the world today, then Hell fire becomes everyone's 4th name.

Change your mindset, its all I am saying. Peugeots may not be the best cars out there, but they are handlers your Japs don't come close to. They are expensive to run, so are other Euro cars. French cars technologies are different and so there performance. To enjoy that, you have to step up and work on your mindset. But if that will be very difficult for you, then keep to your Japs and let us enjoy our lives. Will that be too difficult for you to do as well?

Good morning.

Ikenna
Eeya... Sorry oh, Mr grandfather. You think I get moved by ur very long, boring and one directional essays? Pffft. Maybe u don't see the old japs in Enugu, but here in Lagos I hardly see any of those old jalopy Peugeots u call lion. Interstate buses are Toyotas and Mitsubishis, I even see old Datsuns and 80's Camry used as taxis, no Peugeots.

You calling old 505 and 504 just proves that Peugeots are living on past glory. In those days only the rich can afford a Peugeot, but today the rich would rather buy a merc or BMW or even a lexus or an acura .I don't even think Peugeot got a good SUV out there... (Maybe they only sell them in their native France). The average man would buy a Camry or an accord while a low income earner would buy a picanto . Peugeots are just confused, they don't know where to place themselves and that is why they are on the decline and now doing everything to get back in the game. They place themselves in the middle, not luxury, not middle class.. A rich man would not buy a Peugeot, an average and poor man would still not buy a Peugeot. That says a lot.

LOL.
Aba no dey France o.
Ha ha ha, of course I know they can't be aba made. But really they look like those kits super eagles wear in the 90's. Maybe he should sue Nike for making those oversized kits for his boys, or he is just stingy and got them shirts that they will wear for the next 5 years before it finally fits lol.

oweniwe: i don't why grown up people. . Men for that matter. . Would be arguing about cars that were launched over 25 years ago and sold and served their purpose.

Its like saying houses built with cement is safer than houses built with red bricks. . two houses, one built with red brick and the other with cement block. The house built with red brick is still standing with the owner living in it while the cement house has fallen apart and rebuilt again. . .

A lot of advancements have taken place since then. The fact that something wasn't good enough over 25 years ago doesn't mean the makers haven't stepped up.

Well. . . Its not appropriate to compare a 505 with a corolla. . Maybe with a camry. .

Anyway. . Action speaks louder than words. . Inspite of some folks shouting and screaming that 505 isn't safe, there're thousands of 505s that're still running and serving their owners.

Where is the toyota corolla you're comparing 505 with on the road? If the corolla's so rugged, safe and durable, then why aren't they still running like the 505? Before u see one of those old toyota, you will search four or five local government districts. . .

But the 505s are still running. So whats all the fuss about?
I think u still fail to understand the topic. Peugeots are living on past glory, the 505 is still one of their best cars till date, but that doesn't mean it is safer than the corresponding corolla.

You see more of those 80's 505 on the road than corolla? Yes no doubt about that. Reason? Most of the owners bought them new when PAN was very strong in Nigeria. Those days the Japanese where still in their infants and there wasn't anything like tokunbo cars. Fast forward many years and reverse is the case... Japanese invasion and they are really here to stay for a long time. I'm very sure u will count 20 Toyota cars on the road before u can spot one Peugeot. Lots of Peugeots plants here have shut down. 160 million people can't be wrong. How come Toyota became the world's biggest automaker? They must be doing something right. The whole world can't be wrong.

Omg I'm loving this thread. European car of the year my a$$. We all know the judges will always favor European cars, even at that a Toyota was runners up in 2013 while Toyota yaris made top 6 in 2012.. Where is that Peugeot in north America today? Winning a car of the year means nothing, if a Toyota yaris can make top 6 then it tells u a lot that only the judges understand what criteria they use in judging.

Peugeot were kicked out of the USA because they failed to meet security standards. They are really living on past glory. Toyota became the best selling brand because of their reliability and second hand value. Reliability is what really matters to an average car user and the new Peugeots are not know to be very reliable. Lexus RX has been the best rated and selling mid luxury SUV in north America for years and Toyota Camry and Honda accord have always been in top 5.

Whatever car Peugeot have in their sleeve, there's always a Toyota or Honda that is better. Peugeot 508 vs Camry? Hold on one sec... 508 is a large family car while keeping Camry is mid size family car. Put the Peugeot 508 against Toyota Avalon.

Car TalkRe: What Is Your View About Jaguar Cars? by abatically(m):
Why would someone want to buy a used jaguar? Do u like to waste money? If yes then u can go ahead and buy it. I know I'm being blunt but jaguars are not reliable especially as an everyday car. I know they are luxury brands but they are good when bought brand new, or clean title tokubo. The reason seller is selling a 2004 jaguar (be it xj, f or s type ) for 650k says it all. You can't use a jag as an everyday car, they break down a lot and parts are expensive.

Op, if u already have a car and looking for a weekend ride, u can buy it. If u are planning to use it as a family driver, I would advice against it. My 2 cents though.

ClintonNzedimma: as what?,a subtitute or the key star player
Personally I don't think getting to the final or even winning a world cup is a true criteria to judge a player. Argentina has a better team than Portugal so what do u expect? How many Portuguese players play in top clubs? Argentina have Messi, aguero, higuain, di maria, lavezzi, mascherano, zabaleta... Portugal have who? Nani?

What would players like Gareth bale, even Ryan giggs and ibrahimovic do? Or Alfredo do Stefano, George weah, ian rush, George best, etc. They are very good players but their countries don't have a good team... Does that mean they are not top class?

I can't believe in 2014 some folks still reason like this. Can u explain the word RESPECT as u put it? So u are looking for a woman u can order around right? We have seen some of these so called village girls that turn out worse in the end.

You don't get married to please anybody, u get married because u love ur spouse and u feel u will be happy with him or her. You can be happy today and the next day u feel its not working get a divorce, no big deal in that. So Mikel carry go if u think u have found happiness.
SportsRe: Ronaldo Not As Talented As 'freak' Messi - Henry by abatically(m): 7:27pm On Jul 20, 2014
It is true Messi is more talented than Ronaldo, but goals win u games and that is what Ronaldo will guarantee any team. I know messi score too, but Ronaldo is a more direct player while Messi is more technical. I can see Ronaldo doing well in a less technical team than Messi, Messi needs to play with fellow technical players for him to shine. Ronaldo has this score by all means instincts ( long range shot, free kicks, headers, tap ins).

Messi is a naturally born footballer, Ronaldo on the other hand had to learn everything he could do through hard work.

ChrisCosmo: i've played pes and fifa on the playstation 2, i have both games at home, fifa has licensed teams and players and good graphics and also a nice gameplay but pes is more technical and saying it's easy to use a fast play to overrun the opposition till u get a goal is not applicable when playing against what we call a "strong hand" besides in fifa it is far more easier to score goals. In the playstation 3 fifa excels, that's actually where i love fifa, the player movements, resemblance and everything is way too realistic, i think on the ps2 pes is better not in terms of licensing or graphics but gameplay and excitement but on the ps3 fifa excels in everything
Do People still play PS2? When PS4 is already out. Anyway I am talking about FIFA 14 on PS3. It beats PES 14 hands down. FIFA is more technical, u need to plan ur attack and the players feel alive unlike PES which is boring and one directional.

losprince: that easy game? I think I will pass
On the contrary PES is the easy game, no flair at all. FIFA is more technical and the players are alive, try it. On PES u can easily use a fast player and run ur way from the half line to opponents post and score. Good luck trying that on FIFA. The problem is most Nigerians are stuck with PES, in other countries is FIFA all the way.

shachris: Don't blame olx, blame your greedy black heart
Blame the greedy buyers. How can someone believe a 2012 toyota vensa could be sold for 550,000 naira. Only a greedy fellow would fall for that. I mean they tyres alone are worth almost half of that price. To clear that car from the port is almost twice the stated price, so who on earth would sell for 550k? And whoever thinks custom officers will place advert online other than their website or national TV should have his brain checked.
SportsRe: ===what Exactly Is Wrong With FIFA=== by abatically(m): 7:20pm On Jul 19, 2014
So u expect Nigeria to be ahead of England because england crashed in the first round while. Nigeria made it to the second round. Brother it is not judged entirely like that, if so then Colombia should not be above Brazil. England dropped 10 places to 20th which is because of their poor wold cup showing. Past friendly and qualifiers are also put into consideration. Don't forget Nigeria did not win any of their warm up matches. In fact I can't remember the last time Nigeria won an international friendly .
SportsRe: Imoh Ezekiel Moves To Qatar by abatically(m): 6:19pm On Jul 19, 2014
Exactly the same thing I said in one of my threads. when a young Nigerian has an opportunity to play in Europe and earn peanut but develop his talent, he would rather go to Qatar and earn big money but kill his career. How are we going to produce top footballers that can compete in the world cup? At the end of the day we will still blame FIFA.

It is time those agents stop thinking about the money they would make, they should look for better places for their clients.
Car TalkRe: Top Pointers Dt D Car Engine Is Sound by abatically(m): 1:53pm On Jul 19, 2014
ogawisdom: Ok I was wondering some of the pointers that a car engine is still in good shape. Assuming one is getting a used car wat r d signs that d engine is still okay. Jst before u start sayin go with an experienced mechanic, well dts gud but it always pays to have some knowledge in case d mechanic is compromised.

Alright I think if a car with factory ac runs the ac smoothly on a highway for 20mins without undue noise frm d engine dt cud b a pointer.

Ok let's hear yours, this ll come in handy for everyone I guess
I don't think any car dealer will let u run his car on the highway for 20 mins. That's like covering 50-60km depending on the speed. Moreover u can't know the state of an engine by running it on the highway, if u are talking about transmission though I would agree. Even at that u don't need that much distance to know if a transmission is good or not. A better way to know the state of an engine is to let it idle, check the temperature level, rev it a bit and look for smokes on the exhaust, drive around a considerable distance and check of there is hesitation or any anomaly.

Oh also look for warning signs on the dash. Check engine, abs, SRS, etc. A good way to know if any of the warning bulbs have been removed or disconnected is to turn the key to ii position. All the lights should come on. If anyone fails to come on then be careful. On starting the car, all warning lights should go off.

Mikel still has a higher wage structure than Ideye and that is why it will be difficult for any club to want to buy him... unless chelsea would pay some of his wages. If Mikel is earning 80k a week, his new club must pay him at least up to that amount before he can agree to leave, or else he would stay at Chelsea and earn that money until his contract runs out. I'm sure his wage would almost triple what Ideye would earn at West Brom. It doesn't matter if they bought him for 10 million, the bulk of that money belongs to his former club.

Bros make i ask u, if u dey work somewhere and u are contracted to them dey collect 1 million naira, and them want to transfer u where u go dey earn 500k shey u go gree go?

What we have are average and below average players and most of them play in unknown leagues. So what are u expecting, u expect real Madrid to sign Mikel obi and then unveil him at the bernabue like they did ronaldo and bale? Which fan would even come out to see?

Simply put, we do not have a single player that can attract a crowd.... Period.

Having a tattoo is a thing of choice. Having a tattoo doesn't make someone LESS of a man, neither does not having a tattoo make someone a REAL man. People draw tattoo for many reasons. Some for fashion, some based on a course they believe in, some write the names of their loved ones, etc. I really don't see any big deal in that... Just as some men piece their ears, some have dreadlocks on their head, some carry crazy hair styles.... Whatever works for u. Most entertainers have one thing or the other going for them. Ronaldo spends lots of time dressing his hair, lavezzi and boateng spend time at the tattoo parlor... All na same.
