https://worldsoccertalk.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/robben-dive.gif Robben drew the penalty. Marques is an experienced player and should have known better. Robben was looking for the penalty and he only needed a little contact to go down. Was there a contact, yes there was. Was it enough to take robben down, no. But the rule says a contact in the box, penalty. I wouldn't call it a dive, if there was no contact then we would be talking about dive. |
mencade5: Eagles cannot win france. Full stopOf course nobody can WIN anybody. Is France a trophy that Eagles can win? Lwkmd |
If only fans at viewing centers could shut up and let someone listen to commentary then it would be better. But reverse is the case, at viewing centers there are lot of analysts including people that don't know poo about football, all shouting and making noise. . Sometimes I need to listen to the commentary, so viewing centre is a no no for me. I watch my football in my house. The only viewing centre I could go to is champions planet |
jidobaba: OP has developed a perfectly legitimate enquiry here. When that free kick went in almost everyone watching wondered why Enyeama wouldn't palm away the ball, it was practically within arms reach! Is this also within arms reach, or did Manuel Neuer also invite Ronaldo to put the ball there for money or friendship's sake? people sha na wa o.. https://giant.gfycat.com/GloriousClumsyCaterpillar.gif |
haizeek: I think that guy tha the substitute for babatunde, that tall guy like kanu should be tested,or osazeHa ha, u seriously don't want to play uchebo in central midfield, u are looking for trouble. That guy no save pass, mikel might be slow but he's a better passer than uchebo and Osaze. |
luvola: so you are indirectly justfying elbow knock ? Man you are more worst than fifa . **walk out of thread *I am in no way justifying elbow knock, please don't get me wrong. They are 2 different offenses. A player giving an elbow can easily argue that it's not intentional, then it is left for the authorities to look into it and decide if he gets a ban or not. Also they look at past records of the player involved. In this case it's against suarez as this is his 3rd time. If u get jailed for 2 years for robbing a bank, by the time u get released and u still go back to rob the bank again, u will get a longer jail term. If u still go back the 3rd time to rob another bank after being released, u might end up getting incarcerated. There is no way u can claim a bite is not intentional, absolutely no way. For u to bite someone u have to get close, open ur moth and then bite... That is barbaric. Stop supporting the sewer rat. |

not just an iPhone, I want the gold one. |
I'm advanced countries, say USA or UK, they have opportunities and privileges being a citizen. The standard of living is very good. In most African countries, what privilege do u have for being a citizen? Absolutely nothing. And u want players to play for free while politicians embezzle billions? Patriotism my foot. No benefit for patriotism in the country. |
Yomieluv: Africa my Africa, see difference in mentality...I won't blame the African team, you are also relevant when in service..anything after that, you are on your own...if in doubt, ask Rashidi Yekini.Tell them Abeg. This country if u can't grab ur own when u have opportunities, people will blame u when it all goes wrong. |
Nice gesture from the Greek team. Not only Greece, most European countries don't pay much, it is the pride for players to play for their countries. You know why? Because their countries got their back and their government provide everything they need for them. In Africa the case is different. Most African leaders are corrupt, they fill their pockets at the expense of citizens. So u can't really blame football players who demand for bonus before playing. They are doing their job and should be paid accordingly, or is it better the government put the money in their own pocket? Africa is like a jungle, survival of the fittest. Take naija for example, if after 2 years a player in the Super Eagles get injured and ruins his career while playing for the country, and he goes bankrupt. We all will be asking what he did with all the money he made. The government will wash their hands off such player. We have seen cases of past heroes now living in penury and the country can't do anything to help them. In this country, u need to grab what u can grab while u have the opportunity. Same thing our politicians are doing, so u can't really blame the players. The government is not doing anything for them, the least they can do is get paid for their work. |
dgitrader: !in nigeria, its very risky and in some Instance it makes the driver appear insane. imagine some careless hawkers or kids in ur drive path in a very noisy junction or bend? will you stop, rev high, start screaming or slowly drive into them? tokumbo horn is about N2,000. prevention is better than regret! That is why I said horns are to be used when necessary. In the case of hawkers in front of u, yes it is necessary to use ur horn but not aggressively like most people do. Some Nigerians can use their horn 30 times in a 20 km journey. I have seen lots of people honk their horns aggressively in hospitals, campuses and estates.. its really crazy. We need serious orientation in this country. |
3ace: A whole month?! That would have been extremely frustrating for me. When overtaking, I use my horn always so as to be sure you know I'm closing in beside you. This can prevent a sleepy/careless driver from suddenly swerving to my lane thereby causing accident. Additionally, some nuisance unnecessarily waste your time in traffic. A driver in front of me was chatting away with his passenger in a long traffic that was barely moving. Each time we moved probably after staying in one spot for about 10 minutes, he moved at snail's pace thereby allowing other motorists to join our lane in his front and delaying us. By the time we all started blaring our horns continuously, he was forced to quickly adjust and drive faster. The use of horn is a way of communicating with other motorists and passersby-Just like you point to left/right when turning. So I wonder how you were able to cope for a whole month with using your horn except you are not living in Nigeria especially Lagos where you will always be faced with numerous obstacles. It is absolutely unnecessary to honk ur horn while overtaking, unless maybe a long truck. The sound of horn can be annoying to other drivers and can make them lose control. If I'm driving on my lane jeje and u come behind me and start honking unnecessary just because u want to overtake when u could have easily passed since I'm not blocking u. Because of that ur horn, I will stay in the middle of the road thereby not giving u room, let me see how hard ur horn can go. |
Are u talking about this? https://giant.gfycat.com/GenerousEnchantingInganue.gif Yes I saw the incident and he should have been booked surely. But in football, some decisions go unpunished while others are not so lucky. Elbow, pulling, pushing, tackling, shielding have all been part of football. But BITING has never and will never be part of the game. You people should stop trying to bring BITING into the beautiful game of football, jeez someone could get rabies. It is easier to claim u were trying to shield urself in an elbow incident. A bad tackle could be argued to be a missed tackle. It is completely legal to use ur arms to defend urself in football, for that reason elbow cases need to be carefully scrutinized before making a decision. In most elbow cases, if the referee didn't take a decision, the case normally dies there without any further action. In case of Suarez, how do u explain Biting a player.. there is no logical explanation or argument. Billion of people were watching and a decision needed to be taken, it doesn't matter if its suarez or not. You seem to forget one thing, HE HAS DONE IT 3 TIMES. 3 GOOD TIMES |

Some people keep saying its a British conspiracy against Suarez, but let me show u British players that have received long bans from the FA. 1. Rio Ferdinand: Banned for 8 months for failing a dope test in 2003, he is British 2. Roy Keane: Handed a five-week ban and a £150,000 fine in October 2002 for comments made about Alfie Haaland in his controversial autobiography. Another British player. 3. DAVID PRUTTON: the Southampton midfielder was hit with a 10-game ban and fined £6,000 by the FA after shoving referee Alan Wiley following his red card in a match against Arsenal in 2005. Another British player. 4. PAUL DAVIS - The Arsenal midfielder was banned for nine matches and fined £3,000 after punching Southampton's Glenn Cockerill during a match in October 1988. Another British player. 5. VINNIE JONES - Given a six-month ban suspended for three years in November 1992 - and fined a then record £20,000 by the FA - for his commentary in a video glorifying football violence and dirty tricks. Another British player. Also don't forget Eric Cantona even though he is French. Banned for nine months from football worldwide and ordered to do 120 hours community service as a result of his Kung-Fu kick on Crystal Palace fan Matthew Simmons in 1995. Now why is Suarez case different? This is no British conspiracy, he is paying for his actions. How do u explain someone biting his fellow player not once, not twice but three times. That is barbaric. When u commit an offence, u have to pay for it. |
kendrick93: anytime i watch ronaldo his freekicks dnt even cross d wall. i know wat am sayin. and dat 50gls is pure fantasy. he is nowhere near dat.stop inventin rubbishHuh, 50 goals a fantasy? Why don't u do a little research rather than hating on the young lad. As at April 2014, he has scored 49 free kick goals. When u add the one against bayern Munich that makes it 50 from 2003-2014. His free kicks don't cross the wall u say? A simple question, if someone takes a free kick that crosses the wall but didn't score, vs someone takes a free kick under the wall or to the direction of the keeper and still scores.. which one is better? And he has done it 50 times.. that's a technique Ronaldo himself invented so stop hating. |
luvola: We are not saying what Suarez did was right rather the blower which is the double standard of English press . It would have been better if they have given Suarez a red card than punishing him severely. Suarez would have gotten little or no ban if he was an English player.Have u ever seen a player given a red card after an incident that a referee didn't see? Suarez picked Ivanovic perfectly where the referee couldn't see it because it was off the ball. His ban was longer because FA used his first bite incident against him which is normal. Now his ban is even longer because FIFA used his first 2 incidents against him. If he goes ahead and bite again his ban will be even much longer. That is normal. |
luvola: you do not have a point. Your analogy connote the conspiracy theory against Suarez. case close. That is it? I don't have a point, case close(d). I shouldn't be arguing with u if u don't know how to use correct words. Its case closed and not case close. I have given my points, if u think they are invalid then counter argue with me rather than saying case close(d). |
mikeansy: Nigeria fans must also wake up to the reality that Okocha is a once in a generation player!Mikel has never played behind the striker in all our 3 matches. Against Iran it was Azeez, against Bosnia and Argentina it was Babatunde. Mikel has played as a deep lying midfielder in all our 3 games, so what are u talking about here? |
Ok Suarez has 3 bite incidents and its really trending right now. But in reality it would have been 4 assuming Steven Gerrard was a little slow to react. Suarez tried to bite Gerrad but he narrowly missed ![]() https://cdn2.footbasket.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/tACfS04.gif |
You might have a point, but only little. yes Defoe did bite Mascherano but u can't compare that with what Suarez did. Defoe was fouled by Mascherano and in retaliation he bit his arm.. that is human even though its wrong. Moreover Defoe was not fined because the referee saw the incident and booked both players. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JzXBSvngRR0 An FA spokesman said: "We are unable to take any action because the referee has already dealt with the incident. "Fifa regulations prevent us from taking retrospective action." Also Defoe has not bitten anyone since then. Now compare that with Suarez's first incident against Otman Bakkal in Ajax.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WptBPHDIIvE it might be a bit similar but its still different. Suarez was banned for 7 games and nobody heard about it. I'm sure u didn't know about it either. There was little publicity about that incident. But then they revisited the case when Suarez was involved in another bite against Ivanovic. From the Gif above, only someone with mental problem would do that. The ball was far away, Ivanovic didn't fould suarez but Suarez grabbed his hands and bit him like he was some barbecue chicken. And then we he realized what he had done, he went to ground trying to con the ref. Suarez definitely knew what he was doing. He got a 10 match ban after that and that was when the issue became heavily publicised by the media. As if that was not enough, he went to the world cup and did the same thing over again.. this cannibal hasn't learnt his lesson. https://media.apps.chicagotribune.com/graphics/gif/worldcupbite.gif Suarez has this crazy instinct of 'Win at all cost'. This is what he did in 2010 against Ghana in thr world cup by handling a goal bound ball, eliminating Ghana in the process. Against Italy he knew they were running out of time, so he bit Chiellini and went to ground clutching his face pretending as if he was fouled, trying to con the ref into winning a penalty.. he knew what he was doing. OP, in what way did suarez biting Ivanovic and Chiellini similar to Defoe's bite? Suarez deserves every criticism he is getting right now. Liverpool stood by him during his racism problem with Evra, they stood by him after the Ivanovic incident, but I tell u there's a limit to what someone can take. Keep supporting him, tomorrow he will still bite someone again. He should be given a long ban so he can learn his lessons. Ok now for the joke part.... watch Suarez trying to bite Gerrard but he missed. lol https://cdn2.footbasket.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/tACfS04.gif |
Unfortunately there's no alternative, I don't see any player in that team that can replace him. Mikel has really gotten worse since after the nations cup, I can't believe some folks even wanted him to be the African footballer of the year. I mean if he had been named the African footballer of the year then it would have been a BIG SHAME to Africa. Meanwhile What is a Mikel? 1. A magician: he's right in front of u for 90 minutes, but u only get to see him him for 30 seconds picking up a yellow card. 2. A mikel is a Nigerian Ferrari with the engine of Kia picanto 3. A mikel is anything that has weight, occupies space, breathes but remains stationary. 4. A mikel is a confused strolling object that has no focus. 5. It is an SI unit for measuring deceleration, e.g the car decelerated by 2 mikel/sec. 6. The botanical name of a snail, Mikelis Obilis. 7. Anybody who can pass the ball but can't shoot, cross, head, or be creative e.g my grandma is a mikel. 8. A mikel is that footballer who is allergic to goals. |
Dzeko should get over it already. Yes it was a clean goal but shyte happens all the time in football. That is the beauty of the game until they adopt video technology but then that will slow the game down and take out the excitement. We have seen off side goals wrongly allowed and legitimate goals wrongly ruled out. referee and linesmen are humans and it takes a split second to decide which is offside or not. Why blame the refree Mr Dzeko, if the linesman didn't raise his flag up referee wouldn't buldge. |
thegoodjoehunt: There is a reason the word calculated is put in front of guess. It means work is done before it.You are still not getting it. I used the word GUESS generally as opposed to goalkeeper waiting for the ball to be struck, and then dives in the direction the ball is played, that is not guessing. But when a goalkeeper makes his move without noting the direction the ball was going, either by looking at the players eyes or watching his past videos to know where he normally puts his penalty.. that is GUESSING my broda.. be in calculated guess or not. |
ekiloui: The worst thing is that no one tells him that. He keeps shooting misplaced balls and u'll see some people on NL hailing him and calling it "onazi like shot"..shot wey no dey ever enter postNigerians are very difficult to please. Before it was Musa this Musa that, Musa is useless, Musa should never play, bla bla bla. I mean sometimes Musa will have the ball and Nigerians will start blaming him for no reason. Now he scores 2 goals and everybody shuts up. Now u want to pick on Onazi. Is it Onazi's fault that his midfield partner Mikel can't shoot? Onazi is the only midfielder we have that can shoot. ekiloui: shot wey no dey ever enter postI can confidently tell u Onazi had about 2 shots against Bosnia that could have gone in was it not for the goalkeeper's heroics. All outside shots can't go in, but u keep trying and one might just do it. I don't like players taking unnecessary outside shots. Osaze is an example, he tries to take outside shots even when the angle is impossible but u won't blame him because he is Osaze. Onazi sees a good angle to shoot and u blame him.. Nigerians I hail o. Anyway, just so u know, the Musa that u people hate so much has one of the best shot accuracies at the world cup. 6 shots, 5 on target, 2 goals.. 83% shot accuracy, but trust naijas, since he is not emenike or osaze nobody gives a damn.
|
thegoodjoehunt: It is not "just guessing". It is a calculated guess. Like anticipating the Brazilians are going to try to keep the ball and the Chileans will have to press their defenders with Four players. That is not just a guess like head or tail or I will jump up or down.its not guesssing, its calculated guess.. why are u contradicting urself. An orange and a ripe orange, are both not oranges? Guess or calculated guess.... guess is guess bro |
ekiloui: U people have started again! When has Onazi's shot ever gone anywhere..even without babatunde there I doubt it would have had any impact. Bottom line onazi should stop taking shots (he's not good at it) until he learns to do it accuratelyAnd how would he learn it? Is it not a minus already that one of our 2 central midfielders (mikel) can't shoot. Now Onazi that can shoot ur asking him not to shoot? Guy if he see chance make he shoot, I'm sure if one of them scores u will be here praising him. Are u not one of those guys that blame Musa whenever he shoots wide? And now he got 2 goals and ur quiet, now it's Onazi u want to get at. |
ekiloui: As in ehh! That's how he broke poor babatunde's hand..mtcheeewIf that shot didn't hit babatunde and went straight to the net, u will be hailing him. That was a ferocious shot and could have gone anywhere. |
thegoodjoehunt: Different Keepers have different ways of stopping Penalties. Some guess, some don't.Revising the highest average position the players kick the ball, is that not guessing? We are saying the same thing, if a keeper looks the standing posting or the eyes of a penalty take to determine where he dives, that is guessing, though intelligent. So my point is valid, a good goalkeeper will not wait for a player like frank Lampard to shoot before diving to the direction of the ball. You can be sure he will certainly not save it. |
ojofu: So why do goalkeepers practice penalty, what are they are trying to learn from practicing? I dont need to practice guessing something. it is either that way or this way.Goalkeepers practice to be in shape and improve their reaction. Guessing the direction of a penalty right doesn't automatically mean it can be saved. You can go wrong direction and still use ur leg to save the ball. Also they train to get fit and improve their ball handling abilities. I am not saying goalkeepers guess all the time... but against penalty kick specialists, they normally guess. |
ojofu: believe me, they dont guess but some watch leg of the taker, some watch previous penalty taken by the taker and other watch the ball. if saving penalty is all about guessing, why do they practice for it?Believe me, they guess. I am talking from first hand experience. You can't save a professional penalty taker's penalty by watching the ball or watching his legs. You will end up getting the direction of the ball but u will never save the ball 10 out of 10 times. When u guess its either u miss the direction or u get the direction and save it. So u see, there's better chance of saving with guessing. |
bilms: Musa's goals against Argentina is more spectacular than Messi's. I don't know what others think, but as far as i am concerned, Ahmed Musa's 2 goals against Argentina are more spectacular than that of messi. But as usual, many are celebrating Messi's goals without even mentioning Musa. Why is that? I don't know. I have also read people on nl complaining about the same thing on espn, fifa and others, but the truth is, we can't entirely blame them without blaming ourselves. Even Nigeria's coach, Stephen Keshi after the match against Argentina said, Messi is from Jupiter. He said that because of the 2 goals he scored against Nigeria. So, if Messi is from Jupiter because he scored 2 goals against us, where is Ahmed Musa from since he also score 2 more spectacular goals against them? If others can't celebrate us, atleast, we should learn to celebrate ourselves. There is a BIG difference between scoring consistently and scoring once in a while. That's what makes the difference. Yes Musa's 2 goals were spectacular.. but Messi's first goal was a cracker, it only takes something special to hit a volley like that. |
