Civil rights groups on Monday berated politicians and the elites as 10 Nigerian politicians were implicated in the Pandora Papers for tax evasion.

They were among hundreds of individuals from other countries indicted by the papers for hiding their wealth and assets in offshore locations to evade taxes.

Civil rights organisations including Transition Monitoring Group and the Centre for Public Accountability, in separate interviews with The PUNCH, said report showed deep rooted corruption in Nigeria.

The Pandora Papers is an investigation based on one of the biggest-ever leaks of financial documents which exposed a hidden world of shielded wealth belonging to hundreds of politicians and billionaires.

Published by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists on Sunday, the papers listed 336 politicians, including nationals of eight African countries.

The project saw 600 journalists from 150 news organisations around the world poring through a trove of 11.9 million confidential files, contextualising information, tracking down sources and analysing public records and other documents.

One of those named is a former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, according to Premium Times which participated in the investigations.

Facebook, WhatsApp Restored For Users Globally After Six Hours' Shut Down

Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger which all went down on Monday afternoon with users worldwide reporting the crashes, have now been restored.

SaharaReporters observed that the sites were restored around 10.45pm after about six hours of crash, cutting off billions of users around the world.

The online services all share an infrastructure and are owned by Facebook, which is owned by American billionaire Mark Zuckerberg.

SaharaReporters had earlier reported that the crash started around 16:41BST, according to the website Downdetector. While just two problems were reported at 16:26, the site says, this had jumped to more than 27,000 just fifteen minutes later.

According to The National, users attempting to access Facebook on their browser were shown a blank error page, while those using WhatsApp or Instagram mobile apps were able to view existing content, but nothing new has loaded.

“We’re aware that some people are having trouble accessing Facebook app. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible, and we apologize for any inconvenience,” Facebook had said via @facebookapp

Posting on Twitter, which has not seen any issues, the Facebook app had said it was aware of outages affecting "some people".

Igbo group, under the umbrella of The Igbo Conscience, TIC, has decried what it termed a “worrisome security situation” in the South-East and called on the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency in the region.

The group stated that it became expedient by the FG to arrest what it described as a ” dangerous state of anarchy.”

TIC, led by Mr Joe Igbokwe, Special Adviser on Drainages to the Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, made the call, yesterday, as part of its 4-point demand at a press conference in Ikeja, in reaction to the gruesome murder of Dr Chike Akunyili, husband of the late Chairman of the NAFDAC, Prof. Dora Akunyili, expressing shock over the incident.

Yakasai carpets Umahi, says APC potential candidate in South-West, not South-East

Salihu Tanko Yakasai, a former Special Adviser on Media to Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has criticised Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State over his posture that the ruling All Progressives Congress will zone the 2023 Presidency to the South-East geopolitical zone of the country.

Yakasai said Umahi would be missing it if his reason for decamping from the Peoples Democratic Party to the APC in November 2020 was for the ruling party to zone the 2023 presidential ticket to the South-East.

According to Yakasai, the potential presidential candidate of the APC is in the South-West and not in the South-East, a zone he claimed does not have the political number and candidate with national appeal and weight to pull votes across the country in the forthcoming elections.

The former aide of Ganduje stated this on Friday as a guest on Arise TV’s ‘The Morning Show’ breakfast programme monitored by The PUNCH.

Yakasai, who is an APC member, had been sacked earlier in 2021 for criticising the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) over his inability to secure the country. His criticism had also landed him in the net of the Department of State Services.

‘Osinbajo, Tinubu, Fayemi are APC potential candidates’
The PUNCH had reported that Umahi, who is the Chairman of the South-East Governors’ Forum, had defected from the PDP to the APC in November 2020 over alleged “injustice” to the people of the zone.

“I offered this movement (defection) as a protest to injustice being done to South-East by the PDP. Since 1999, the South-East have supported the PDP. At a time the five states were all PDP. One of the founding members of the PDP was from South-East, the late former Vice President, Alex Ekwueme.

Osibanjo is a nice man, eminently qualified to be the president of this nation but let's be honest, the candidacy of Osigbanjo will create more problems in this country, the SE might feel neglected, the SS might feel cheated even the so called North will see it as an opportunity.

The Northern elders forum has made their opinion clear, they will sell a candidate from the North presumably ATIKU, forget the drama playing in APC , Northern APC will tactical back Atiku, they did it before during Jonathan, despite been in PDP , they worked against Jonathan..

Am no longer interested in partisan politics, I stand for the right thing , the Asian world that I saw recently opened my eyes, these are countries that were rated with Nigeria , today they are fast moving ahead competing with the great powers..

Forget about TINUBU, ATIKU, WIKE AND THE REST OF THESE MEN, they're politicians only interested in their interest and nothing else....

Peter Obi, Osibanjo, Dr Okowa, Fashola, Okonjo Iweala, Adesina , these are the sort of men and women Southern Nigeria should look up for presidency and kind of calibre of people our youth and children should look up to..

South west , I call you on you to drop your quest for another presidency, vote an ibo man out of merit, 8 years of Obasanjo and 8 years of Osibanjo is enough for now in the spirit of brotherhood, anything less than that is a NORTHERN PRESIDENCY (both in APC and PDP) with either SE or SS as VP...

Enough of a divided south, enough of playing games , will implore the southern governor's forum to boldly declare their support for a SE presidency, that will show that we are serious for our turn..

Forget France, AUKUS and nuclear-powered submarines -- one of the most important moments for the future of US influence in Asia is due to take place on Friday in Washington.

US President Joe Biden is holding the first in-person meeting of the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue, better known as "the Quad," an informal strategic forum of the United States, Australia, Japan and India -- all democratic countries with a vested interest in countering China's rise in Asia.

Biden will be joined in Washington by Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, Indian leader Narendra Modi and Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison to discuss "promoting a free and open Indo-Pacific," according to the White House.
The meeting comes at a time of great change for US policy in Asia. As the Biden administration moves to strengthen its diplomatic partnerships in the region, Japan is taking an increasingly hawkish view of China's military buildup. At the same time, Australia's AUKUS defense pact with the US and the United Kingdom has solidified Washington's commitment to Asia while making some important Southeast Asian partners uneasy.
At this critical point, what the Quad chooses to do next is more important than ever. Australian Strategic Policy Institute senior analyst Malcolm Davis said compared to its early roots under the George W. Bush administration, the Quad had evolved from a "low key political and economic dialogue" to a very significant player in the Asia Pacific region.

The Quad is not an Asian NATO ... but at the same time it is clearly moving in the direction of a cooperative security approach," Davis said.

Countering China

The Quad was initially proposed in 2007, but was put on hold for a decade until it was revived under former US President Donald Trump amid China's rise as an economic and military superpower.

The diplomatic environment in Asia has changed markedly since that 2017 revival -- and the Quad has taken on a greater significance.
In April 2020, relations between Australia and China took a major downturn after Australia's Morrison called for an independent investigation into the origins of Covid-19. Beijing retaliated by imposing punitive restrictions on Australian goods and the relationship is yet to recover.
Meanwhile, ties between Washington and Beijing that deteriorated under Trump have faltered further under Biden as the US solidifies its diplomatic partnerships in Asia with a view to containing China.
The new American outreach was enthusiastically welcomed in Australia and earlier this month the two governments joined the UK to announce AUKUS, an agreement by which the three nations would exchange military information and technology to form a closer defense partnership in Asia.

Japan has also welcomed greater US involvement in the region. After attempting to pursue a warmer China policy in the early years of Chinese President Xi Jinping's time as leader, Japan has grown increasingly wary of Beijing over the past year.
In an unusually blunt interview with CNN in September, Japanese Defense Minister Nobuo Kishi said Japan would "resolutely defend" its territory in the East China Sea "against Chinese action."

Fox News has banned Rudy Giuliani and his son from appearing on its network, Politico Playbook reported on Friday.

Giuliani, who served as a personal attorney to former President Trump, has reportedly been banned for close to three months and only learned of the move by the news network right before Sept. 11, the news outlet reported.

Prior to a scheduled appearance on “Fox & Friends” on Sept. 11, “Fox & Friends Weekend” co-host Pete Hegseth apparently called the former New York City mayor the night before and apologized, telling him he had been canceled from their guest list.

A source close to the former New York City mayor told Playbook that Giuliani had been upset by the decision because he had “done a big favor” for Rubert Murdoch.

“He was instrumental in getting Fox on Time Warner so it could be watched in New York City,” the source told Playbook.

Additionally, Giuliani’s son, Andrew, has also been reportedly banned, though it is unclear when that ban would have started. Since his New York gubernatorial campaign was initiated in May, Andrew Giuliani has not appeared on the network, Politico Playbook reported.

The news outlet reported that the Giulianis had been told that the ban had come from the top of the network

The Hill has reached out to Fox News and Giuliani for comment.

The news comes as Giuliani, MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell and pro-Trump lawyer Sidney Powell are each being sued by Dominion Voting Systems for defamation for allegedly saying that their machines manipulated votes for President Biden during the 2020 election.

Requests to dismiss the lawsuits by all three were rejected by a judge last month.

For the past three months now Google has been deducting US tax from my YouTube earnings. That's after I filled the tax form. I don't know if I didn’t feel the form properly. They deduct as much as 24% of my earnings and it's really sickening.

They don't deduct any Tax from my Adsense earnings, but they do on YouTube earnings.

I just want to be sure that I'm not alone on this. Has Google been deducting US tax from your YouTube earnings?

It is okay . It was reduced...I pay as much as 32% in the state of Washington for my Amazon Earnings...Joe Biden want to reduce it for people that earn less than $400,000 and increase for those $400k above if his legislation agenda is passed.

Trump's far-right rally organized to protest those charged in connection with the deadly Jan. 6 insurrection has appeared to draw a small crowd of people, according to circulating news footage and images on the ground.

News of the crowd came after significant buildup of security forces and the resurrection of a protective fence around the U.S. Capitol amid concerns from officials of violence and chaos reminiscent of the January attack.

A small crowd of attendees began to gather at the Capitol on Saturday morning ahead of the scheduled demonstration dubbed the “Justice for J6” rally.

Reporters and videographers on the ground in Washington noted that there seemed to a heavier presence of police and press than actual rallygoers.

“Still seems like more press than protesters. Less than one demonstrator per member of Congress as the scheduled event begins,” Jonathan Allen, a NBC News reporter, tweeted.

“Less than a half-hour before the start of this “Justice For J6 (Jan. 6)” rally, there are not a ton of people at the protest site. There are just as many journalists here, and probably more police,” David Jackson, a correspondent with USA Today tweeted.

Former Aviation Minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has given reasons he defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

Speaking on Channels Television programme, ‘Politics’, Femi emphatically said he joined APC to achieve unity, peace and togetherness in Nigeria.

When asked to comment on the statement he made in 2015 against President Muhammadu Buhari, the outspoken Femi opined that: “There is a time to condemn and criticise people. There is also a time to come together, work together to achieve unity”.

Recall that Femi had in 2015 condemned politicians that joined the ruling party, saying that he would rather die than join APC.
