case 1 can be solved using the three equations of equilibrium, which are:
1. sum of forces acting vertically = 0
2. sum of forces acting horizontally = 0

head course help to tie the building together and prevent exceasive stress on the block wall. since our sancrete blocks are not to specify strength, it help to distribute the roof load evenly...head course also help to avoid uplift of the roof since the roof connector is tied into the concrete. ..

in future, get a professional to help you with your building supervision. if you muat spend money, make sure it is well spend

Apuntu is the best wood for roofing and itis relatively cheaper than mahogany. ..the problem with mahogany is its low shear strength

the architect is not responsible for the choice of structural members and material.

let me educate you. To build a structure, you need an architect to draw the building drawings showing all the partition walls, dimension and all other functionality.
You then need a structural engineer ( civil engineer) to do the structural analysis using mathematical, scientific and economic principle to investigate all the load that the building will carry and then provide concrete section and reinforcement for elements like slab, beam, stair, column and foundation.

in the case of the synagogue lodge, the building had already been design by the engineer to be a 2 storey building, hence independent structural element like slab and beam ( beam of each floor only depends on the slab in that floor) may not be affected but the column and foundation will not be able to carry any my additions of floors.

in a simple language, the column( pillars) of the building was not be able to carry the added four floors. The foundation footing was also not adequate to carry those floors

I am a civil engineering graduate not a registered engineer yet...but can tell you categorically that only a greedy owner will hired people to change the functionality of a building of two-storey to 6- storey

It is difficult to get jobs in Nigeria as a whole so dont get yourself disturbed. If you like a course, i will advice you do it. Dont say because someone did it and is jobless then you will also be. head course is a weeak concrete layer placed at the end of the building before the roof.

after the lintel level, another two course ( layers of block) is placed ontop of the lintel then a form work using soft plank of 1×12" is used to board all the edges of the buulding round, a reinforced iron of R6 is placed @ 1.2m c/c ( 4". a weak concrete of 1: 5: 7 is used to cast it.

With that in place no need for 3×4". most time, people use 3x4" to do wall plate or internal beqm within the building where the span of the building us too much, like to divide the living room etc.
