alpontif: It is simply irresponsible and absurd for you to make a point which expresses your reservations to an idea being put forward, while not providing reasons why your submission should be respected. By performing an act of autolatry and being a pessimist would do a disservice to the ideology behind your position on the said topic. Being an autohagiographer and not educating the minds of your fellow forumites, is not justifiable because by going through @eledan's submissions, there was no place where your level of intelligence was questioned and he even apologized when its not wrong for him to ask questions. Your choice of words portrays you as an aeolist, which doesn't speak well of your professionalism and courtesy demands that you apologize for the un-needless outbursts and temper tantrums that you've been throwing on this thread. The essence of humanity is to cohabit and help each other's deficiencies hence the hunting in packs by the early man. While its within your rights as an individual to have a different opinion, its unacceptable for you to insult the person asking questions out of curiosity 6 Likes |
Politics / Re: Jonathan, New PDP Governors Begin Meeting In Aso Rock by Abok1(m): 3:58pm On Oct 07, 2013 |
Our dear nelipot president is more concerned about the prospects of winning the next general election hence the preference for solving the quagmire in his party. This is a win win situation for the politicians who are hell bent on being thelemic to the detriment of the masses. Nothing is being done about the current situation with our tertiary instution, the youths are condemned to a wanweird. This is very surprising because its coming for a seemingly different president, one whom the whole populace voted for with the hope that he would identify with the masses. The initial petrichor as proved to be a façade because it remains business as usual for the ruling class. At the end of all these things, the masses are on the losing end, due to the continual disregard of the feelings of the people by the cacoethes in power. 3 Likes |

I doubt if the governor would be able to carry out this plan especially when its close to the next general election, because I see this proposal as an opportunity for the opposition to milk the situation to their advantage, at the end of which the governor might be forced to defenestrate his idea based on dissenting opinions. I may be wrong in my assumptions as the governor might be prepared to flash the dactylion at the opposition and still steer clear of controversy, in which case it would be a double whammy with regards to the outcome. 1 Like |

Its really surprising that our dear president has seen the need for a national conference after initially turning down the same offer earlier when the odds were in his favour. Like a mammothrept that has suddenly been jolted back to reality by the division in his party, our dear GEJ has realized the importance of a national conference, and Nigerians being who they are easily hoodwinked by the knismesis which is aimed at diverting their focus from the issues at hand. 4 Likes |

texazzpete: The argument that majority of Nigerians own one car is a nullum argumentum, for the mere reason that the subject of discourse is not the number of cars on the roads being many, but that the amount of money spent on purchasing cars in a Year is very high. The fact that a person cannot drive two cars at the same time, doesn't stop the same person from buying more than one cars. |

texazzpete: The government doesn't have to enact a law to stop people from buying more cars, but simple policies in the line of subsidizing the cost of public transport in the country, making it compulsory for car owners to pay road tax, residence parking permit and so on would go a long way in reducing the number of cars on our roads |

A painful trend in the recent policies being made public by the FG is one that leans in the direction of misplaced priorities. While empowering the country through the means of reducing importation of used cars could be a good idea, we need to ask ourselves some salient questions. Like a poster rightly said that the majority of people buying new cars already own one, but would want to purchase a new one. The question is why would someone prefer owning two cars as opposed to making use of one functional car? I am not a researcher but common sense tells me that the bad state of the Nigerian roads have a telling effect on the life span of cars in the country. With that being said, a responsible government would focus on improving on the numerous road networks in the country by developing a master plan for these infrastructures. Its unbelievable that as a country that has abundant deposits of bitumen, we still find it difficult to maintain our roads. |

duality: Firstly, responding with words that portrays lalochezia, rhetorics and conjectures would do a disservice to the purpose of this discourse, which is to point out what could have been improved on. Having said this, a drone would increase the capabilities of the ground forces, solely because of its specifications which includes a synthetic aperture radar for looking through smoke, clouds or haze, taking into consideration that the area in question is an arid area which makes it easier for the view to be unhindered and with clearer visibility when compared to the rainforest. A simple investment in empowering the personels on ground would greatly increase their effectiveness. The point I'm trying to make is not about the drones, but rather need to improve in the area of intelligence gathering, the mere fact that the attacks were carried out with guns and the large number of personels involved should give an insight into the lack of tactical intelligence gathering on our part as a nation. It would have been pardonable if it was a case of suicide bombing, but we are talking of an all out attack on the students by fully armed insurgents. Finally, the issue of the peculiarity of the situation is an act of autolatry aimed at flattering ourselves with an underlying aim of shying away from taking full responsibility for our condition. We need to stop deceiving ourselves, everything seems to be treated in a shoddy manner; we continue to do things wrongly and expect the military to perform miracles without equipping them. One thing Israel has going for them as a nation is there surveillance methods; while we are not saying that Nigeria should be at the same standard as Israel, if after 53 years of independence we are still having wrong policies and a situation of total collapse of our tertiary institution, all happening while the government seems bereft of ideas on how to tackle them; then we are not serious at all. A blandiloquent approach to tackling an act of terror is wrong in its entirety and a change of policies which would best serve the purpose of addressing the current quagmire, should be the way forward. The whole world is constantly preparing for eventualities in the face of the threat being posed by insurgents and as a nation, we cannot afford to continue playing the role of a gongoozler, without making meaningful progress in preparing ourselves. We call ourselves leaders in the AU and ECOWAS, but we are found wanting in the area of addressing insurgents? Isn't it laughable that we still can't devise a means of improving our capabilities to face these threats? 3 Likes |

duality: As the president, there are tactical statements that makes more sense than rushing to make comments like our dear president has been doing. Firstly, I'll instruct the security chiefs not to make unconfirmed assumptions like proclaiming Shekau dead without visual evidence. How much does a drone cost? with 5 million USD you will get a predator drone, i can not begin to expantiate on the effeciency of this piece of invetion, a single Predator drone would conveniently carry out intelligence and reconnaissance-gathering, for up to 14 hours. We need to invest on the intelligence department in this country. We only make purchases when its inevitable that we need them , in most cases we panic-buy; Our fleet of modern fighter jet 12 in number was purchased by OBJ, out of which 3 have been reported crashing at one time or the other, what happens to the option of continuity? why cant we consistently invest in our defense department. Another thing is the issue of the PR guys being used by the president, they are simply pathetic. Constantly making wrong utterances as they have successfully done a shoddy job at protecting our nelipot president, that they are best described as unprofessional, based on their maledicent pronunciations. It is quite Jumentous that the office of the president can not afford to employ the right set of PR guys apart from a failed politician and a journalist. What does a journalist know about PR? (no offense intended) The only thing they are good at is writing rejoinders and articles, no wonder they sound inaniloquent when making statements because they are simply incapable. They are not to be blamed, because a man cannot function beyond his level of exposure, hence their constantly gambrinous misdemeanor which betrays the level of sophistication required of the post which they occupy. 2 Likes |

Why does the president make utterances that are unbecoming to his office as the GCFR of Nigeria? This comment shows ineptitude on his part and its mind boggling that the president makes prosaic comments that it seems like he is constantly being quoted out of context. This is the kind of statement you hear in a beer parlor or among the market women. Its becoming very common for our dear GEJ to embarrass himself anytime he opens his mouth to talk, that I wonder if it would be helpful to get an interpreter or handler for him. Maybe he should make statements in his local language and the handler would translate to English based on how intelligent the initial statement is. Nigeria remains under developed because of the ease with which its citizens celebrate mediocrity in the name of these bletcherous policies being shoved down their throats by the ruling class. This if not addressed might be detrimental to the actualization of a moderately developed nation. But really who would change the status quo? This rhetorical question would have been best answered if the people are more enlightened and would chose to voice out their opinions in the face of oppression, rather than singing the praises of these aeolists in power. 2 Likes |

moodswing: All I see in the comments are very unfortunate opinions and halfbaked show of intelligence. The statements made by the senate is best described as deception in its purest form, considering the antecedents of the present crop of politicians as a group of ventripotent individuals with preference for tergiversation at the slightest opportunity, based on their lust for pandering to their gluttonous appetite which is best satisfied by looting our national wealth. We all know this is an act of sphallolalia which stinks to the high heavens. By paying lip service to the national interest is just a ploy to deceive the unsuspecting populace into thinking that they have our issues at heart, whereas deep down in their heart they know its because of the 2015 elections, whereas if the situation was different, they would have been more comfortable with playing the role of a gongoozler, rather than making meaningful contribution to the national well being of Nigerians. I wouldn't want to be seen as a pessimist, but would rather be a realist because we have been humbugged for so long by these thieves and we refuse to be swindled. Enough is enough, come 2015 I pray and hope that the dynamics changes and the cheats are chased out of power. |

This move could scuttle the chances of the APC in the upcoming general elections, because of the singular reason that they would lose out in the south east. I feel they should concentrate and capitalize on the already captured zones in the SW and nothern part of the country. It is common sense to focus on your strengths than waste time trying to gain votes from where its difficult to get. I believe fielding a strong personalty from the North and an equally strong politician from the SW (preferably Fashola), would help them secure total votes from the SW. It is common knowledge that the other SW states were won by ACN based on the performance of Fashola in Lagos. Because there is no time to experiment, capitalizing on this would go a long way in helping their cause come 2015. |
Politics / Re: FG Borrows $1.6b To Expand Power Transmission – Nebo by Abok1(m): 1:45pm On Aug 27, 2013 |
The problem with Nigeria is the systemic non-accountability of our administrators and managers. Apart from this, we also lack professional politicians at the moment. What we have is accidental administrators that are incompetent and they in-turn surround themselves with unqualified sycophants called special advisers. The role of the special advisers have been turned into ordinary praise singers with little or nothing to offer than attacking the oppositions. The situation would have been helped if we had “citizen politicians with alternative careers”, those who served in political office for a few years, and then went back to their normal jobs. What we have is a group of people without meaningful pedigree or profession in the politics. The Nigerian politics has devolved to a small, homogenous group that had enough political power to disregard the will of the people, without feeling any sense of responsibility. The current administration, while they might have done some good things in the transportation sector, lacks the needed sense of responsibility. Because it is only an irresponsible administrator that would not block sources through which money are being syphoned, and would rather focus on borrowing more money. Like a philosopher would put it: " it is sheer stupidity to continue to do things the same way and expect a different result " 1 Like |

deeptesting: Sometimes it baffles me when people put in extra effort to justify something based on their warped judgement. The case of the 3rd mainland bridge points out the same thing I stated earlier in my post. I am sure you don't know what the lifespan of thirdmainland bridge is, neither can you tell me that prior to 01/03/07 any government agency carry out regular checks on the bridge to ascertain the level of degradation of the structure. On the issue of costing, you should understand that it is cheaper to construct a bride on an underdeveloped area, than when the same bridge is sited in a densely populated area. It is high time we changed our mindset and get things right "every structure has its lifespan as determined by the constructing firm" this lifespan is based on different factors, tensile stress and strain, environmental factors, vehicular frequency, and so on. I am sure that the projection of the expected vehicular traffic on the bridge has increased exponetially since when it was initially built, coupled with the incessant grid-lock on the bridge. This is why an agency is meant to carry out regular checks on the bridge. But based on your warped judgement, you have neglected all these factors and believed that every bridge on earth should last for eternity. |
Politics / Re: Controversial Flyover Barrier Demolished In Ibadan by Abok1(m): 1:18pm On Aug 21, 2013 |
Skirtelnino: There's a painful trend that is noticeable on Nairaland based on the replies posted so far. Rather than facing the issue and calling out people who should be cautioned against breaking the laws, majority of Nigerians would rather capitalize on the issue to score cheap political points. If we call ourselves adults, I wonder what we would be teaching our children by supporting acts of lawlessness. We should learn to separate issues from personalities. In saner climes, no one in his right senses would drive on a restricted road, and the process of limiting vehicular activities on bridges doesn't necessarily depict that the structure is sub-standard, there are specifications for different infrastructures (this is what the layman would call the lifespan), although we don't respect this in Nigeria hence the persistent breakdown of machineries and infrastructures. While the governor was sensible enough to stick with the plan and specifications of the designer of the bridge, some illiterate politicians are playing politics with the bridge. The salient questions remains: Are the politicians more informed than the civil engineers responsible for the evaluation of the project? Do they know if the foundations of the said bridge is wide enough to support a wider bridge which would in turn enable the bridge to conveniently support heavy duty vehicles? I weep for Nigeria's future leaders if these replies represents the mindset of Nigerians. 1 Like |

Politics / Re: Construction Of Abuja-Kaduna Fast Railway Enters Final Phase by Abok1(m): 8:08am On Jul 05, 2013 |
Sincere 9gerian: There's little or no difference between a bullet train and a fast speed train, the major difference is in the body formation where the bullet trains make use of a unibody model. The technology that supports both trains are similar, apart from the newer ones in china and Japan which make use of electromagnetic tracks or an advanced track which reduces the amount of joints to optimise the speed. With that being said, no locomotive engine can attain the speed of 150 to 170 km/h without being powered by an electric transmitter. It can either be overhead or in the form of a third leg (third single line tracks) running side by side. The cost analysis I made is for the cheapest fast train and not the bullet train. Therefore the points raised still remain valid. There is no way you can get the maximum speed on an 100% fossil fuel powered engine without consuming more than required amount of fuel. The truth pays at times, we know GEJ is making efforts, you didn't need to lie about the actual project before we take GEJ serious. I think you are deliberately twisting the information to score cheap points, because this is a rail modernisation exercise and not an high-speed train line. Kindly change the title to reflect the truth and we will commend GEJ for making progress. But by twisting facts would not achieve any purpose, other than wrongly informing the populace.
