The faceoff between the Kogi State government and the
senator representing Kogi West senatorial district, Dino
Melaye, got messier on Sunday as the state government
said the people of the senatorial district had not benefitted
from his representation.

The government said Melaye’s activities in the upper
chamber of the national assembly were constituting
disgrace to the government and the people of the state.

The government, in its position made known by the special
adviser to the governor, Pius Kolawole, faulted Melaye’s
alleged ethnic colouration being given to his attacks on the
state governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello.

It accused the senator of trying to create religious tension in
the state, saying the governor is somebody that has respect
for religious institutions.

Kolawole said it was surprising that Melaye, who is
supposed to be representing the interest of the people of
Kogi west was busy fighting for a “selfish and egocentric”
cause at the expense of burning national desires from his
people.

He said, “The people of Kogi west ha e not enjoyed any
dividend of good representation fro Dino since he was sent
to the national assembly, all he does is to engage in useless
fight with colleagues and associates.

“We ask Dino, what bas happened to the huge constituency
allowances hd has received since be went fo the senate?

Where is the quality representation he promised his people.
Did the people of Kogi west send Dino to the senate to
become a bodyguard or a Muhammed Ali of some sort?”

He said the governor remained the number one leader of the
party in the state, adding that no gimmick by Dino and his
cohorts could change the situation.

However, Melaiye in his reaction, urged Bello to come out
publicly and deny the allegations levelled against him
instead of sending his “kindergarten” aides to speak for him,
adding that Bello should account for the N220 billion he had
so for collected in the past one year.

The senator said he regretted the roles he played in ensuring
that Bello became the governor of the state after the demise
of Alhaji Abubakar Audi.

He said, “Even though I am currently regretting my role in
enthroning him (Bello) as Governor amidst controversies,
Yahaya Bello before the Primary election had no ten million
naira in his account.”

“I had to personally go to some personalities to source for
funds for Yahaya Bello against the supplementary election.
There are a lot of role I played that made Bello Governor,
which I won’t say for now.”

“Time to speak out more will come, so the entire world will
define between myself and Bello.

“According to the general proverb, he who seeks for equity,
must come out with clean hands, let him (Bello), go and pay
workers their salaries and suspend the unending screening,
because the four- week ultimatum to do so still stands,” he

A member of the House of Representatives and former
contender of Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello’s position,
Hon. James Falake, on Tuesday led a delegation of Kogi
State indigenes to the Presidency to pass a vote of no
confidence on Governor Yahaya Bello.

Faleke, who led the group comprising former ministers,
former ambassadors, former National Assembly members
and other critical stakeholders from the State to the office of
the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, said that the State has
stopped working since Bello assumed office.

Speaking with State House correspondents at the end of the
closed door meeting, Faleke said that the Governor’s
unsavory actions were inimical to the future of the ruling All
Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

According to him, the people are dying of hunger as a result
of the leadership style being adopted by Governor Bello.
He said: “We came to the presidency to let federal
government know what is happening in Kogi state as
regards the fortunes of the party. The way it is dwindling day
by day as regards the civil servants, the welfare of the
people and their relationship with the state government.

“We have come to let the presidency know so that when
elections come and the party losses, no one is to be blamed.
We want intervention from the federal government to find a
way forward in this situation.

“The governor of the state should recognize those who work
for the party and make the party to be successful. It is one
thing to be victorious at the court level and another thing to
carry the people along. I want to use this opportunity to urge
the governor to carry the people along.

“The governor of the state should recognize those who work
for the party and make the party to be successful. It is one
thing to be victorious at the court level and another thing to
carry the people along. I want to use this opportunity to urge
the governor to carry the people along.

“This is the fifth time he is setting up a committee to review
staff strength with so many screenings every day. People
are dying. You ask people to come from the entire 21 local
government to Lokoja to present their documents; some of
them are dying on road accident.

“My concern is that if he is too sure, he should set up a
better frame rather than this recurrent approach. For all the
committees that sent report to him, he has condemned their
report and he is the one that set up these committees. Now
another committee has been set up again for the same
purpose.

“We get calls every day for welfare from civil servants,
school children that their parents have not been paid for
months. So, we want him to stop this because this is not the
only way to stop ghost workers and it shouldn’t be the last.

I’m not against eradication of ghost workers but it shouldn’t
be done to the detriment of the people,” he stated
He said that the delegation was satisfied with the response
of the Acting President during the meeting.

“Of course, we are satisfied. It is a work in progress. It is
not a fait accompli”, he said.

A former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon.
Abdullahi Bello Okene said that the delegation had
representatives from across the state.

“Yes of course. You can see among the delegation here are
former ministers, former ambassadors, former National
Assembly members across the state that are critical
stakeholders. The leadership is all here cutting across the
entire state”, he said.

Politics › Sultan’s Visit: Kogi In Danger Of Religious Crisis – Senator Dino by abu12(op): 6:55am On Feb 01, 2017
http://kogireports.com/sultans-visit-kogi-in-danger-of-religious-crisis-senator-dino/

The recent attempts by governor Bello of Kogi state to ignite
romance with northern religious leaders mayq have
potentially predisposed the state to endemic religious crisis
regardless of its pious look.

Governor Bello had invited the Sultan of Sokoto and the Emir
of Zazzua alongside a renown Islamic scholar to
commission an ongoing building in the state tagged as
Revenue House. The building, according to some reliable
sources was still an ongoing project at the time of
commissioning.

Meanwhile, the invitation of those traditional leaders is seen
by some pundits as a political romance aimed at covering
Bello’s 365 days palpable failure and untold hardship which
his weak and puerile policy wrecked on the people of Kogi
state.

This is coming same day the state’s chapter of the ruling All
Progressive Congress, APC and concerned political leaders
in the state lampooned the Governor and passed a vote of
no confidence on him. According to them, Bello’s one year
in office has further retarded the economic fortune of the
state having squandered over 220 billion tax payers’ money
without evidential proof of any executed project . ............

.
It should be on record that I owe these respected traditional
rulers and the cleric a great deal of respect. However, the
rationale behind their honouring Bello’s invitation remains
eternally a puzzle and conundrum that cannot be unraveled.
Perhaps they were not properly briefed of the situations of
things in the state and that Governor Bello was merely using
their presence in the state as a means of plastering and
enveloping his awkward reigns and his gauche
administration.

The very fact that other traditional rulers and Christian
leaders were not part of Governor Bello’s scheme was
another issue that requires proper dissection given the
secularized nature of the state.

Though Bello and his handlers may have failed to learn from
history as Kogi state since creation has never witnessed
religion crisis nor attracted any acrimonious romance from
any state considering its secular nature but for Bello to have
extended his hand of fellowship only to Northern and Islamic
leaders without recourse to the secular nature of the state
where we have both Christians and Muslims, this indeed
portend great disaster for the state.

It remains to be seen why other Christian and traditional
leaders both within and outside the state were not deemed
to be invited alongside Bello’s northern allies who only came
as a cover up to his fiasco laden administration.

The visit of Bello’s Sultan and others has been seen by
some analysts as a technical enslavement of the state to
the northern Islamic leaders as it is widely believed that, the
north orchestrated his ride to the throne to pave way for
their domination in the state. However, this zigzag visitation
has validated the unventilated thought of the people................
