PMP Training and Certification in Nigeria is a major step into setting projects right and finding success in career for the average Nigerian professional. Here's a brief write-up on the importance of PMP certification and Training in Nigeria. What is shocking in the Nigerian context is that many projects are embarked on with nothing more than enthusiastic prayer and it is assumed that the project will somehow work out in the end. This naïve approach to project execution is why we see the failure of so many Nigerian projects uncompleted or of poor standard. According to the Presidential Projects Assesments Committee PPAC, there are roughly 11,886 on-going capital projects being executed by the Federal Government with an estimated total cost implication of N7.78 trillion. This figure is undoubtedly shocking. But we must admit that we’ve all experienced a bad project whether it may be a shabbily executed wedding, the intermittent light supply from PHCN or buildings that remain uncompleted for years. A project is usually considered a failure when it has not delivered what it was required to in line with expectations. For example “the Nigerian project” itself may be considered a failure because it has not met the high expectations of its citizens. So what is a Project Mangement Professional and how can they contribute to create successful projects in Nigeria? A Project Management Professional or PMP, is a proffessional who has been awarded a certification earned after meeting a minimum standard set by the Project Management Institute (PMI). To qualify to take the examination leading to an award of PMP certification, one must take project management training for no less than 4,500 field hours experience and a minimum of 35 contact hours or project management education from a registered Project Management Trainer. Anyone with a first degree in any discipline and a minimum of 3 years professional working experience in any field is eligible to take the training and subsequent examination. Alternatively a secondary school holder with 7,500 hours contact experience on the field may also qualify. Armed with a PMP, you possess certified proof that you are competent enough to initiate and complete any project of any scale and in Nigeria there are many projects that are begging for the right professionals to come and manage. One of the problems governments and organizations in Nigeria have is with effective management of projects. A project can be defined as a collection of tasks that all together make up a specific goal. Many abandoned projects in Nigeria give credence to the fact that we lack competent hands to manage and complete projects in this country implying that those who fit based on their competence are in a better position to be handed projects to manage. The Project Assessment Committee confirms that "there is indeed evidence of large scale, widespread institutional mediocrity, deficiency of vision and a lack of direction in project management, which result in poor conceptualization, poor design and faulty execution." This has resulted in unquantifiable loses going into billions of Naira to the government and Nigeria as a whole. People who have a PMP belong to a much needed class of professionals who are deemed competent in starting, managing and completing projects of any scale. It is a globally recognized certification meaning that anyone who has this is certified to handle any project in the world. http://www.abujafood.com/news-digest/crunch/884-pmp-the-solution-for-a-successful-nigerian-project.html |
For me my man of the Match is Echejile I think he played excellently pocketing the taller and bigger Malian attackers as if he was physically bigger than them. 9 over 10 Victor Moses was fantastic as well I rate him 8 over 10. Enyeama gets 8 over 10 for excellent goal keeping! |
Great Points, I particularly agree with giving your woman too much control is a big relationship mistake for men. |
To learn more about Abuja City of Nigeria don't hesitate to read up! |
Abuja is the capital city of Nigeria located in the Federal Capital Territory and is divided into districts all of which fall under the administration of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) which is the equivalent of a local government you find in other states in Nigeria. Don’t mistake Abuja with FCT which is the entire region comprising Abuja and 5 other Municipal Areas namely Gwagwalada, Abaji, Kuje, Bwari and Kwali. History Abuja officially became the capital city of Nigeria on 12th December 1991 when the Federal Government moved the administrative capital from Lagos to Abuja. Prior to that as far back as 1976 a military decree was promulgated to establish the FCT by the regime of Murtala Muhammed. Economy There are very few factories mostly involved in Agro-allied processing and small scale manufacturing. Most of the factories are food related such as bakeries, confectioneries and plastic making companies. There are a lot of construction companies in Abuja who work with the Federal government in developing infrastructure and properties. Most businesses in Abuja are small and medium scale businesses which render retail and trading services to residents. Hotels and hospitality services are very common also but Abuja is still to a large extent a ‘civil service’ city with the government services being the mainstay. Districts Based on the Abuja master plan, the city is divided into three main segments based on phases of development. The phase 1 which is the main part of the city consists; Asokoro, Maitama, Wuse, Garki, Guzape and Central Area. In all there are at least 38 main districts in Abuja city and many satellite towns and settlements such as Kubwa, Nyanya, Lugbe, Mpape and Dei-Dei to mention a few. Land Marks Some easily recognizable landmarks of the city include; Abuja City gate, University of Abuja, Aso Rock, Gurara Falls, Apo hills, the National Assembly complex, Millennium Park and Banex Plaza to mention a few. There are countless more to know. Geography The geography of Abuja like many north central towns and cities is a mix of hilly and level ground. There are a number of hills and rocks around the city especially in Jahi, Maitama, Asokoro, Wuye and Apo while others have slopy land surfaces such as Gwarinpa and Mpape to mention a few. Weather The weather of Abuja is often a source of distress for people from cooler climes as the weather is hot especially during the dry season starting from December when temperatures could be as high as 35 degrees Celsius and could continue till April when the rainy season sets in. http://www.abujafood.com/news-digest/bite/1067-abuja-city-an-overview-of-nigerias-capital.html |
Abuja’s underground Hip Hop scene is an undocumented yet vibrant music-scape of young Nigerians that live, breath and sweat music. In the nooks and crannies of Abuja from Garki 2 to Wuse 2 hunched over mixers and screens, with a microphone in one hand and a blunt in the other, hybrid sound bars inspired by 90’s R&B, European House music, with splatterings of Fuji, Gangster Rap and Afro-Beat blare from the speakers. These rumbling bases often combine with the dusty heat of Abuja’s harmattan season causing ripples of pure unadulterated groove that morph the limbs of innocent bystanders into the popular Azonto sequence. Often grimy, the Abuja underground music scene is not for the faint hearted. If you are newly initiated into this tight click of Abuja artists you have to be ready for the onslaught of negative judgment by the mainstream public who have labeled these urban dream chasers as criminals, hooligans, druggies and miscreants. Simply put, you have to be a musical ninja in skinny jeans with balls the size of asteroids to have any chance of keeping your head above the competition. The Hip Hop trio Gransonz fits this bill. Working from the CCbeat7 Studio’s in Wuse 2 this triad churns out lyrical gold layered on tracks of unique sound bites and the effect is distinctly memorable. Recently signed to Jim Iykes ‘Untamed Records’ label, Gransonz are being tagged as the next big thing. Judging by the leaked single “Love for the Game” #LFTG these guys mean business. Follow Gransonz on Twitter @Gransonz and @ccbeat7 to keep tabs on this much buzzed about act. Mingling in the studios of these young creative’s. Another name came up “Badguyses” like all underground musicians the name sounds familiar but you have to hear the song to connect the dots. Badguyses are made up of two dynamically creative individuals, Prokassy and MrPhemo. Their energy breaths through their music, you can hear it in the decadently danceable ‘Azontolizin’ and ‘Naija Gangnam Style’ Gransonz and Badguyses are only two in a universe of creatively rebellious artists that make up the Abuja underground hiphop scene. Abuja hip hop has its own flavor that is distinct from its alter ego in Lagos. It speaks for itself. Listen to “Love for the Game” here Listen to “Fun Time Mood” by Gransonz and Badguyses here. https://www.nigerianscams.org/images/begger4.jpg The Nigerian Scams is a misnomer, a name coined globally to refer to a number of scams popularly perpetrated by Nigerians but yet is not strictly unique to Nigerians. It seems Nigerians have earned a bad reputation globally for various social ills one of which is scams. Although these criminals make a small percentage of the population, they seem to have developed a notoriety that is hard to shake. Although Nigerian scammers are in the minority, they make up a large chunk of the world’s leading scammers hence why certain scams have earned themselves the distinct title of “The Nigerian Scams”. Below are 5 of the most devastating scams known to hail from Nigeria. Be informed, don't be a "Mugu" and it will save you alot of trouble. Job Scam In the heat of searching for a lucrative job, many uninformed and desperate job seekers are often targeted by a new breed of scammers who post fake job interviews. You’ll often find that these job scams target fresh job entrants who haven’t experienced much when it comes to the dreaded job search. Online Sales Scam Some scammers have taken to selling damaged or non-existent electronic or digital products via blogs and other online social networks. The items vary from laptops to blackberry phones or even e-books. Often times these products, have very attractive prices and a limited time for the offer thus creating a sense of urgency. The scammers often times request the would-be victim to make purchase by depositing into a bank account and once payment is confirmed, delivery would be done within days. But often times this never happens. Contract Scam Ever received a phone call from someone you vaguely remember? Usually this person knows your name and might have a few personal details about you but could try to play smart with you by mentioning a time or place where you may have met usually the victims can vaguely remember the caller. The long and short of it all is that you’ve been awarded a mouth watering contract, but in order to profit from it you have to make some deposit into an account operated by scammers. This type of scam usually involves at least two people so expect the initial caller to introduce you to another person who is the one awarding the ‘contract’. Romance aka 'Yahoo Yahoo' Scam The Romance scam is perhaps the most pathetic of the dreaded Nigerian Scams. The scammers are ready to swindle anyone, especially emotionally vulnerable elderly people in search of true love. The scammers are not satisfied with stealing from their would-be victims but even go as far as winning their hearts in order to break it. The victim is hurt by the fact that he/she was tricked by someone they really cared for. As the month of love, February is truly the month that this type of Scam flourishes, so beware! Lottery Scam Imagine receiving an sms that you’ve just won N1 million in a promo you didin't even participate in. The way the lottery scam works begins with the scammers send out random messages to subscribers within a network hoping that one gullible person will contact them via the phone number they provide and steps to follow to claim their prize. The sad thing is although this scam is over a decade old people still fall for them. Perhaps the creativity and variation of the lottery scam makes simple minded people vulnerable. Keep this piece of advice in mind; never ever send phone card vouchers or money to anyone as a step to claim a prize you’ve won. It makes no sense to do so at all. http://www.abujafood.com/news-digest/bite/1120-top-5-notorious-nigerian-scams-you-must-know.html |
Efemena_xy: Interesting stuff here.Point 1 is what some fake recruitment agencies do to desperate job seekers. For instance someone sending you a congratulatory sms that you've landed a job when in actual fact there isn't any. The long and short of it all is you pay registration fees for jobs that don't exist! |
Eze Promoe: None! Do they really exist?Do they really exist? Ask one of their victims, they'll tell you everything you need to know! |

1. Pay to get a job Job Seekers are the main target of this scam. You promised a job but a condition is set, "Pay a fee" for the job. 2. Romance aka Yahoo Yahoo! People who pretend to love you only because they want you to care for them. Shortly after they bring to your attention their financial problems which are often fake. These scams are popular in chat rooms e.g yahoo chat, facebook chat etc but a few ingenious folks have taken to nairaland to spread this here. 3. Product Promotion/Lottery Scam Someone contacts you usually by sms that you're the lucky winner in a product promotions lottery. 4. Contract Scam The scammer gets your details from nairaland then contacts you claiming they have a contract for you to supply goods. 5. Online Sales Scams When a scammer offers a product at a highly attractive price but never delivers the goods or delivers a damaged item instead. Here on Nairaland which of these scams have you ever faced? |

Nok Art is at least 3000 years old and is the earliest known proof of use and manufacture of iron in sub-saharan Africa. Nok Art is the earliest known attempt at “Nigerian portraiture” which came to prominence in 1928 bywhen a British Col. J Dent Young on a tin mining operation in Nok a small village in Jos Plateau state discovered a small terracotta head. Years later several other Nok sculptures mostly of human heads and were discovered to have similarities in style by archaeologist Bernard Fagg of the Jos Museum and ever since Nok art had been globally recognized as the first known use of iron for portraiture in Sub-Saharan Africa (dating as far back as 1400 BC) making them extremely rare and highly priced artworks. So it’s not surprising therefore why so many people make a profession of stealing Nok art to sell off in the international art market. The good news is that some of these stolen artworks have be found and for the first time ever, they’ve been returned to Nigeria. The French Government on January 30th officially returned 5 stolen Nok sculptures seized by French Customs at the Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris by a French Citizen who had purchased the sculptures illegally from art dealers and also to return them to their place of origin – Nigeria. The event “Official handing over of the seized 5 African Terracotta Sculptures of Nok” took place at the Reiz Continental Hotel in Abuja. Among dignitaries who graced the occasion were the minister for tourism High Chief Edem Duke, The French Ambassador to Nigeria - Mr. Jacques Champagne de Labriolle - among others. http://www.abujafood.com/abuja-events/dawn/1116-five-seized-nok-sculptures-returned-to-the-ncmm-by-the-french-embassy.html |

Anyways I've slowed down and she's given me Yes and No signs! I'll give up on her if she continues with her strong head. I've decided to give her a week more before pulling out! Now over to you! The University of Abuja was founded on the first of January 1988 by a military decree for it to run fulltime and part time programmes for both regular and long distance courses. Unfortunately, UNIABUJA has failed woefully in meeting academic standards expected of a Federal University. It is on record that the university has one of the lowest number of employed lecturers with some departments having just three lecturers and many of the courses not properly run. Many state universities actually happen to be much better in terms of academic programmes and infrastructure. Till date, the University continues to operate from its temporary site and there is no sign that it will soon move on to its permanent site. The learning environment is not stimulating, management practice is unprofessional, and Lectures are NEPA-like; on and off. This background informed the reasoning behind the Federal Minister of Education, Professor Ruquayaat Rufai's decision to intervene. This intervention took the shape of an order that certain courses being offered by the University including Medicine and Electrical Engineering be removed from the course list. Some locals describe the university as a glorified secondary school with corrupt and poorly qualified lecturers acting as the heads of this so called higher learning institution. Admission into the University is controversial and seriously compromised by various corrupt elements. “It is a cash and carry situation, once you have your cash you can buy admission into the school” said one respondent who didn’t want to be named. Whatever the case, it might be safe to conclude that UNIABUJA just like many of her sister universities is living to her true status as a “glorified secondary school” due to the poor quality of programmes they run. Of all places, a glorified secondary school is not fitting for the nation’s capital and it seems the Minister understands this. The implication is clear due to the cancellation of those particular courses and transfer of affected students to other universities. It is obvious UNIABUJA is not a fully fledged university yet and the future of Nigerian youths cannot be sacrificed for cheap gain. What is at stake here is not just the reputation of this University, but the standard and integrity of the Nigerian University system as a whole. The sooner something is done about it, the better. Some students of the university who embarked on a peaceful protest to the Minister’s office lamented that their plight in the university will only worsen if the proposed courses are scrapped although they admitted that the University is a serious write off. One of them openly said her friends laugh at her for attending the university and that she is ashamed to tell people openly about the School she attends. The spotlight is on the Ministry of Education to solve this crisis in Nigerian Education reflected in the University of Abuja. The future of our youth should not be made to suffer due to the failings of our public institutions http://www.abujafood.com/news-digest/crunch/659-the-university-of-abuja-a-glorified-secondary-school.html |
The 2nd Edition of the Abuja Young Entrepreneurs Award also known as the AYE Awards 2013 organized by Fusion Lifestyle Ltd, is out to celebrate enviable strides made by young Abuja based Entrepreneurs whose innovation and creativity have been shining examples of how Abuja is fast evolving into a city of energetic entrepreneurs rather than the numerous government workers it is known for. Young people are increasingly forging their own desitinies rather than choosing the safe option. The generic definition of an entrepreneur is anyone who can identify viable business opportunities and create products or services that meet an identified demand. A Nigerian entrepreneur is someone who goes against the grain to take a risk despite the numerous threats and lack of opportunity in their environment. An Abuja entrepreneur builds on this definition, but more so. Abuja on average cannot be described as a business friendly environment. With the high cost of living, various security threats and big business and government orientation to the economy, an entrepreneur in the Federal Capital City has to not only possess superhuman strength of will but have the unique ability to think out of the traditional box. This is what makes Abuja's Young business adventurers a focal point to celebrate and encourage. The founder of the Abuja Young Entrepreneur Award, Dr Samiah Oyekan-Ahmed is a young entrepreneur herself, so she only knows to welll the importance of supporting and motivating this pivitol generation of boundary pushers. These enterprising young men and women who have been nominated for the awards, have demonstrated innovation in providing products and services to Abuja residents and workers, despite the harsh and competitive business environment. The AYE Awards organizing team defines a young Entrepreneur as anyone within the age bracket of 21 – 35 years as at the time of setting up their business. There are over 60 Nominees for this year's Awards in 12 Categories that include Young Entrepreneur of the Year, Health and Fitness, Media and arts among others. In recent years key business services could not be accessed locally and many Abuja residents had to resort to traveling to Lagos or even overseas to enjoy these services, but a few young creative persons are passionate about getting these services to Abuja folks. Now we have among the nominees Cupcake connoisseurs, Philanthropists and Humanitarians, Hospitality givers, Relaxation and Beauty experts, Digital Media Marketing specialists, Fashion and design trend-setters to mention a few. Abuja is a fast growing city with a demand for world class goods, services and entertainment catering to the teeming multi-cultural population. Those nominated for this year’s awards are just a few among many great Nigerians with brilliant and creative business ideas. Abuja can evolve to be the city of our dreams but only if the young generation of business risk takers are celebrated and encouraged to reach giddy hieghts of success. http://www.abujafood.com/people/be-inspired/1108-aye-awards-2013-celebrating-abujas-creative-entrepreneurs.html |
