This Sanusi of a man still has deep tribal blood running in him. He blames the Igbos for the first military coup but fails to blame Hausas for counter coups that later followed and destroyed Nigeria.  Did he also forget that some Igbo officers foiled the first coup attempt? If others blame the north for some of our socio economic problems, he should rebut  them with facts not innuendos. he should tell us why folks in the north  are disproportionately poorer than southerners or why northerners are less likely to go school than southerners. This is another northern elite who is a beneficiary of the northern hegemony. Does anyone know his family background or ties. I bet he didn't get here just by himself or true hard work

see some Naija women and their responses. What if roles changed? Hubby makes  all the money and decides to keep it to himself. He will be called selfish, unloving, uncaring, stingy. This is one of the main causes of marriage failures amongst Naija couples overseas. Women want to keep their money and even though their husbands might have  paid for traditional and white weddings

Are you for real? So funny how you guys try to rewrite history.
You are the one rewriting history. How can you expand something that it is not being used. Bush had started using this measure until it was made known by washing post. He sought for further expansion of FISA. The reason why congress didnt approve of was that it was never introduced as a legislation before Bush and co started using it. If it was so why were communication companies and individuals that participated given retroactive immunity?

depends on ur mentality too tho. I don't see anything wrong with looking african. ppl do use it as a compliment.
well, I usually take it as a compliment lol

Depends on your understanding of context cos men who tell her she looks West African dont get turned on by her "west African" looks. She doesnt get asked out by those men unless I read something different.

how did we reach a conclusion that west African look is ugly. some of us here pretend as if this doesn't happen. Africa has a lot negative connotation. When people tell you you dont look African do you feel flattered or enraged? Its like when a guy on the street compliments you on your "good " English even though he doesn't know how to speak one. So in the context of this discussion, they mean that West Africans are not good looking or not appealing to them. You should just wake you ass up, maybe you need to live in African men's world cos they get turned down every time by AA women who may not have the time to tell them that they consider them "African Have you ever considered Whoopi Goldberg's features? I would rather have her looks and be smiling to the bank than having a Beyonce looking with empty bank account. New day has been set for women all over the world. Michelle Obama= brainy and sexy. I rather be a brain cracker than a booty shaker. get it in your head.

How can it be illegal when Congress approved of it. By the way, that was for a country at war seeking ways to monitor attacks by illegal combatants. Is Iran at war with its citizens? I just wonder for you sometimes Richy!

Congress did not approve of it. Bush later sought for retroactive approval. A little bit of honesty cannot make you like Obama or you should at least acknowledge that are there some other guys on this forum whose political inclinations do not obscure them from reading the fact.

sasha,
the reason why i highlighted those obscure points was to let you know that you should really think it through. On a hypothetical scenario, you were being sponsored by your parents and this lucky guy came into picture and u made it known to your parents that you must marry him and they asked you to choose between losing any form of assistance and your boyfriend. you would be tested by this hard decision. What would be your choice? This is what marriage is all about. It would aslo be worth of note if you told your parents that you have found a white man so they should stop looking for Naija men for you or you led them to believe that they should go and start searching for eligible bachelors while at the back of you mind you knew that it aint gonna happen. At what point in this husband search process did white man creep up? This is what differentiates from oyibos. They start telling anybody who cares to know about their new love while we wait for the right time to tell -which might be too late. Ask your siblings to intervene and then plan a vacation to Nigeria with your man, but your parents must be seen to be soft pedaling before you take him with you. Good luck.

I think it might make a difference   if your parents live abroad or in Nigeria. it would make a difference if you ve led them to believe that you would marry a Nigerian. It might also make a difference if your parents put you through  school overseas or might have helped you immensely in  your journey . Naija parents dont like to be used and dumped cos some of them will tell   you dont marry anyone you see  on the way. Marry from home and all that. Then you  are in this new relationship and you dont want to let them know that there is a new guy on the block and  all of a sudden this blossoms into a roller coaste ride and you are stuck by not telling them that  you had something going on.Some time in order not to offend the source of  our help we tend  not to be upfront about issues like these. Its better  you cut off their assistance on time and be on your own so that you can make a better decision. It happened to a friend of mine, his parents didnt like his fiancee and it led to him cutting any form of assistance from his parents and they saw he was willing to go lenghts to prove that he loved his woman, they caved in. Parents dont like to be used . Let's tell them that we may not keep up to those promises from the outset. i think it may change a lot of things.

How about Andy Ubah's girl friend and partner in crime. She is Harvard educated yet went to the bank in the States to deposit a large sum of money above $9999.
How about Naija politicians who are educated in best schools, yet they still lack vision and act as touts. Enough of this master's this and that.

Its not about spending 4 yrs in engineering fields in the west vs spending 5yrs. In Nigeria, you shoot to core engineering courses after 2nd yr where as in the west you start with your core engineering courses from first year.
In the west for instance, if you are taking circuit analysis in electrical/electronic, computer enginering you would use computers to simulate schematic diagrams of gates. You would exprience nand and nor gates simulations first hand. I remembered a smart fellow from Naija telling how impressed he was working with electronic work bench even though he had been taught about it so many times by his teachers. He was provided with a box of equipment that cost about $5000 for his practicals. How many unis in Naija can afford that?
I think the underlying question is this; how many Naija grads can shoot straight into US/UK/Canadian market place without any form of recertification or retraining?

Just the way Rush bashes the media even though his reaches millions of listeners through media. Wasnt Bush accorded the same celebrity status after 9/11? Some media houses were either labelled traitors or unpatriotics when they asked hard questions about Iraq's WMD. I still remember Dan Rather' 60 Minute on Bush's military credentials.
Politics › Re: I Was A Doctor In Nigeria, Now A Cleaner In Canada by adconline(m): 10:09am On Jun 05, 2009
the bolded depends on which university you went to in Nigeria. All Nigerian graduates can say they went to university. However, not all universities are the same.

And while we're discussing this matter, thats why refusing to learn how to speak English properly isnt always a plus once you're out of your comfort zone

Can you please tell me any university in Naija that  never had these types of graduates or does not have these types of graduates. OBJ even agreed when he was the president. Even Yar'dua  said same thing " some Nigerian graduates are not employeable" A friend of mine recently employed a Naija  graduate with no computer skills. I'm not saying all Naija graduates bad. So for you to be accepted in UK, Canada, and US etc you must  have upgraded your qualification. Let's tell the whole story. Not that there is a job  market out there waiting for fresh Naija grads. Dont get me wrong Naija folks pass A-level, SAT, GRE GMAt every year, but  there are many Naija grads who  cannot pass these exams based on what they were in taught in school. Also remember that unis are supposed to  be centers for research and academic learning. How many Naija unis are in this role?  Even in  Africa, Naija unis rank lower than most African countries that are at comparable economic/political level with us. So I think its delusional to think some naija unis are good and some are bad, but the point is that average naija uni is bad. It will be like saying that all US  grads measure  up to Hardvard or Yale or that Hardvard grads  are the best in all fields, but on average most of these grads were well taught in their schools. The missing point here is teaching.

Just a simple question? If the above in bold fonts are realy true, why do some of us still got all it takes to break into the UK market with our Nigerian degrees and still came out being the best everywhere we work or at whatever we do? Why did the UK govt recruit many people to work in Britain under the HSMP Visa if Nigerian Universities turn out shit?

Are you for real? Breaking into UK market straight up from Nigeria without any advanced cerfitication or training from UK institutions? If you live in Uk as you claimed, you will know that Naija's education system is opposite of UK. My brother who had best results in some unis in Nigeria got accepted into University of Cape Town is even saying that SA is way ahead of Nigeria even though University of Cape Town ranks between 300 to 400 in World's universities ranking. Let's not confuse ourselves with core fundamentals of education . Chemistry is chemisrty everywhere, but it can be taught, assimilated and experimented on differently. Naija unis are still teaching Fortran 77 in computer courses while most schools overseas will start you with C++ courses. What are u talking about? I think you are miscontruing sharp minds with educational systems. Mind you that best Nigerians go to live abroad.

If you graduate as a medical doctor in Nigeria and you go to where ever to mess up, chances are that you are not that good academically and professionally and it has nothing to do with the state of Nigerian Universities because if you search properly, you will come across loads of people graduating from the same University and doing marvelously well in other countries Worldwide, even in the same Canada.

I think you might be living in a different world. There are lots of Nigerian graduates who cannot even write a good letter of application. There are some who cannot make a complete sentence without an error. There are some graduates that never sat for exams and yet they passed. I think that this notion of Nigerians kick asses everywhere they go is higly exergerated I think that Nigerians abroad are driven because of the circumstances in their home country. I think you cannot afford to fail here attitude propels some Nigerian not that our Universities are superb

So if Putin calls Obama a terrorist would you believe him? I already know your answer cos you believed that he was associating himself with terrorists during the campaign. Obama is a democrat and was elected to fulfil the wishes of those who voted for him (u are not included) so deal with it. I'm enjoying this ride. Stealth war: Obama sabotages GOP

Charles Mahtesian Charles Mahtesian – Wed Jun 3, 5:15 am ET
Tuesday’s announcement of Rep. John McHugh (R-N.Y.) as President Barack Obama’s nominee for Army secretary makes perfect sense from a policymaking standpoint. It’s hard to find a member of Congress who’s more well-respected or more steeped in military personnel issues than McHugh, a senior House Armed Services Committee member who has wrestled with issues ranging from recruitment to base closure to the role of women in combat.

Yet it’s also hard to find a choice better calibrated to meet the Obama administration’ s political imperatives. All at once, Obama has selected a nominee who burnishes his bipartisan credentials, opened up a seat prime for Democratic pickup and drained the GOP reservoir of one of the few remaining Northeastern moderates.

It’s an event that’s happening with enough frequency to suggest the presence of a design, a plan that not only sketches the outline of a reelection strategy but manages to drive a wedge into the opposition at the same time. Call it a Sherman’s March in reverse — an audacious attempt by Obama to burn down any lines of escape for Republicans from their one refuge of popularity, the deep South.

Since taking office in January, Obama has made an effort to convert GOP moderates in nearly every region of the country, ranging from a former Midwestern congressman, Ray LaHood, who became transportation secretary, to Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman, who was recently named ambassador to China.

Obama also made a play for two of the four remaining Northeastern Republican senators — meeting with success in the case of party-switching Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter and near-success in the case of New Hampshire Sen. Judd Gregg, who initially accepted the president’s appointment as head of the Commerce Department before backing out.

And with McHugh’s appointment, Obama has managed to cut New York’s ever-shrinking GOP House delegation by one-third. The state delegation now includes just two Republicans in its 29-member contingent — down from 10 as recently as 2004.

Between high-profile conversions from the Northeast to the Midwest to the Rocky Mountain West — not to mention Obama’s warm relations with the nation’s two most prominent moderate Republican governors, California’s Arnold Schwarzenegger and Florida’s Charlie Crist — it’s beginning to look like a strategy that isolates conservatives, reinforces the impression that the GOP is defined by the borders of the Deep South and all the while underscores Obama’s stated goal of working across party lines.

The Politico 44 Story Widget Requires Adobe Flash Player. //
“It’s very smart politically on a lot of levels. First, it’s a demonstration that he’s keeping his promise to govern in a bipartisan way. Second, the fact is, every time you open up a seat in the House or Senate that an incumbent Republican holds, you give your party an opportunity to win one back. And some of those seats may come our way,” said Tad Devine, a veteran Democratic strategist. “It forces Republicans to defend their own territory and spend money on defense.”

“Boxing the Republicans into a South-dominated party is very good strategy, because the more you reduce the Republican Party, the more conservative and reactionary it will become, and thus less attractive to moderates,” said Tom Schaller, a University of Maryland-Baltimore County professor and the author of “Whistling Past Dixie: How Democrats Can Win Without the South.” “The Midwest and the Northeast are the places where there are still remnants of old-line Rockefeller Republicans. And these are the places where the Democrats will build durable majorities.”

The National Republican Congressional Committee made reference to the political calculus in a memo released after McHugh’s nomination Tuesday.

“Make no mistake about it, John McHugh is an incredibly qualified nominee for secretary of the Army, and he deserves a swift confirmation,” the memo said. “With that being said, there is no doubt that White House chief of staff and former DCCC Chairman Rahm Emanuel was well aware of the political ramifications surrounding this selection when this plan was hatched. The party boss in the West Wing saw a political opportunity and he seized on it.”

“They’re making some really strategic moves in terms of sending them to China or plucking them out of New York,” said Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.). “It’s obviously a loss to us, a loss to Republicans in the House and a loss to the party in that region of the country and generally, but obviously a great get for the new administration. I just hope [McHugh] would stay here instead of going there.”

Former moderate Rep. Jim Leach (R-Iowa) dismissed the notion that politics has played a significant role in White House appointments, noting instead that the administration is simply following up on campaign promises to change the climate in Washington.

“It is a considered endeavor that is very much a part of the president’s personal philosophy, and it’s to be commended,” said Leach, who himself has been mentioned for a possible Obama appointment. “I don’t view this in any way as Rovian politics. I view it as a Lincoln-esque political effort to unify.”

“The truth is that once you put emphasis in the campaign that you’ll put good Republicans in the administration, the media and the pundit class starts counting,” said Democratic strategist Bill Carrick, a veteran of numerous presidential campaigns. “But there’s this value-add to it: [McHugh] is from a region where the Republicans are incredibly embattled. Republicans are almost extinct in those areas.”

Republicans were reluctant Tuesday to criticize the well-regarded McHugh, but they also were sensitive to the impression his departure might foster — that moderates like him were deserting the party because conservatives were running roughshod over them.

“John was very dismissive to me about that,” Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.) told reporters Tuesday, relating details of a phone conversation he had with McHugh earlier in the day, during which McHugh told Pence that he felt very welcome as one of the few remaining moderates in the conference.

Terry Nelson, a Republican strategist who served as political director for former President George W. Bush’s 2004 reelection campaign and who worked briefly for the 2008 McCain campaign, said McHugh’s nomination alone shouldn’t be viewed as a strategic play because one House seat by itself makes no difference given the current Democratic majorities. Rather, the strategic benefit of the appointment is the message it sends.

“Broadly speaking, it’s clear they’re working to put forward as bipartisan an image as they can,” he said. “The strategic advantage is to put forward the bipartisan facade, because they know the American electorate is much more centrist than left-leaning, and they want to put forward a centrist face.”

This has been a waste of my time. I inquire and got nothing but negativity and judgments. At least get it right. His mom left his father with 3 sons. She raised them to be outstanding men. I'm proud of her accomplishements. I never stated I had 3 sons out of wedlock. Totally your assumption. I did not bother to read the remaining message as I do not have the energy. Its retarded. As I read I realized I did not need your approval, forgive me for trying to educate myself on a culture lost. For now on I'll stick to books as people are ignorant in their thinking an minds do not grow. Stagnant. I triumph. Thx Africa.

The point is that your mind is pretty much made, so needless for you to ask for opinions. We are " Africa" not like minded folks.  I cannot shower you with false or flattery opinions knowing very well that they are misleading. I was trying to tell you what might be the real obstacles as to why his mum is not open to the idea of her son marrying an older woman with three kids. The case is that his mom left his dad   AND DID NOT MARRY A YOUNGER MAN WITHOUT KIDS. If you can confront him on this issue. You are on the way  to Vegas for wedding. I was trying to tell you that all ethnic biases he told you of might be a cover up for your baggage. I believe that we are telling you what he may not tell  from Naija experiences  you ve got some issues that his mom would not let him to marry you. Folks who  do not share your  way of thinking have all of a  sudden become ignorant and stagnant. Maybe Usher's mom was stagnant and ignorant by being against Usher's move to marry a woman with some kids from previous relationships. Maybe most single American women with no kids who would not date any man with kids are ignorant and clueless as well. Maybe we are ignorant and retarded but  ask single moms and dads how easy it is to get a date with partners without kids in the US of A let alone Africa? if his mom is in Nigeria, she will be saying come home and marry someone who is younger without any kid. I think this  is where  "retarded" African culture misses  superduper American culture.

the point here is that the poster doesn't see anything in her age and having three kids out of wedlock as one of the issues. Its Yoruba "culture"  in her mind that is the problem. There is no correlation between some of his siblings not being allowed to marry Igbos or vice-versa cos she is neither Igbo nor Nigerian. Her greatest challenges are how to convince  her man's family that a woman who's  got three kids and some what older is good for him and his family. It seems she doesn't have a clue on how marriages work in Nigeria. She thinks that  a mama boy for that matter would marry her without her mother's consent. This is "impossicant" unless she means secret marriage without the knowledge of the parents. Ask the guy how many of his siblings got married to someone who had kids from previous relationships. Maybe , nada, nil. zilch. If we are taking about a kid, it might be understandable to his parents, but three will be a big snag.

there you go! Role reversal here. Would it be an easy task for an American parent to let their beautiful daughter  who's got no  kid to get married to a African, with an accent who's got three kids from previous relationship?  I smell rat here. You seem desperate to get this guy to say I do. It might work for, but you ve got an uphill battle.  I will tell you some real hard truths about Nigerian parents.  They want their kids to be married to  their partners without kids from any previous relatioships. 90% of marriages in Nigeria are without kids from previous relationship. This might be reason why your man doesnt know how to be a man and tell you what are his mom's worries. Nigerian parents are very conservative- they are less judgemental on race, religion, nationality than having kids out of wedlock. Make sure that your man is being honest about his concerns. Naija parents want their kids to start on a clean slate. They might think that your baby dad/s might still be part of your family. This is the key issue here.

this is how   most naija politicians think , especially if you are from the north. Their allocations, bribes, perks , allowances, and take homes are taking a hit, and MEND has been instrumental in helping that decline.  So its better to do away with 20 million people whose source of wealth sustains the rest of the country- with politicians taking 80% of the income than to let 100 million die of hunger. We are Nigeria because oil is flowing from Niger Delta. We will all die if MEND stops  oil money from reaching northerners- nay Nigeria
Politics › Re: Why Is Obama Visiting Ghana Before Nigeria? by adconline(m): 11:45pm On May 17, 2009
A nation that cannot hold a state election wants the president of the free world to visit. U gotta be kidding me. How about the fact that Ghana's ex president John Kuffor was the only African head of state treated to a White House presidential banquet hosted by Gorge W Bush? Ghana is coming of age in African democracy and it deserves to be compensated. Nigerians should get their house in order and stop whining. South Africans are not complaining cos they hold hold their ground. Nigerians are paranoid
