5. Avoids your friends and family and will not introduce you to his. Have you ever thought of the fact that women think of marriage before men, so introducing you to his family without knowing you very well might lead you to think that you are the one. Mind you if I have dated 10 women, 8 of the women would be thinking of marriage while I might be thinking of marriage with only 2. I think that most women easily want to familiarize guys with their relatives without really knowing much about the guy. Most guys like to play safe in case if it does not work. |
Mrs Akunyili is a disgrace to some Nigerians. Naija way of rebutting facts with nothing. Let her show us her figures even though she is not the minister of health. it shows how detached these govt officials are from realities. |
S.African Airways crew arrested after Heathrow drugs find: official Monday, February 16 09:43 pm Print Story Customs officials arrested the crew of a South African Airways plane at London Heathrow airport Monday after seizing 250,000 pounds worth of cocaine on a flight from Johannesburg, a spokesman said. A spokesman for customs said the 15 crew members of South African Airways were arrested Monday after border officials seized five kilogrammes of cocaine, worth about 250,000 pounds. "The crew were arrested after UKBA (UK Border Agency) officers discovered the drugs in a piece of baggage that had arrived on a South African Airways flight from Johannesburg," the spokesman said. He told AFP it was "very, very unusual" for two separate crews to be arrested in such similar circumstances within such a short period of time, adding: "We were surprised to find another (haul)." The crew members are currently being held in custody and will be interviewed by officials from HM Revenue and Customs. In January, 10 female and five male SAA crew members were arrested after 50 kilogrammes of cannabis, with a street value of about 150,000 pounds, and four kilos of cocaine, worth about 160,000 pounds, were found in three suitcases. They were not charged and were released on bail, to report back to the authorities at Heathrow on March 23. South African media later reported that police there had arrested a security guard and a SAA cabin crew member in connection with the case. SAA said at the time that it had a "zero tolerance approach towards the use of the airline's services for any criminal activity." Airline crew are subject to the same security checks as ordinary passengers in both Britain and South Africa. http://uk.news.yahoo.com/18/20090216/r_t_afp_uk_britain/tuk-s-african-airways-crew-arrested-afte-a7ad41d_4.html?printer=1 |
pastor@ Government doesn't build roads etc, yes I agree. But how many citizens in that country pay their taxes. Except you are working for a big firm or bank and can't hide, most nigerians scam their government on a regular basis. I'm not saying that if they paid their taxes then the taxes with be well spent on public utilities by the government. But I am saying that it takes two to tango. The people are as rotten if not more rotten than the leadership they like to blame. In fact the leadership merely emerges from the people. It seems that you do not have an idea on what govt represents. Can you show me any country with good govt where its people are bad? If you get into a ship that is about to sink and the captain is terribly bad do you blame the passengers for boarding the ship or the captain? Point of correction: There is never any country in this world that has been saved spiritually. This is shear negation of responsibility. God can only work through humans. Stop blaming the victims, blame the oppressor. |
Revisionists trying to rewrite history. Was the war caused because of oil or innocent killing of Igbos? What was the contribution of oil to Naija's economy before the war? |
bgees @chris brown is wolf in sheep's clothing. remember he had a baby at the age of 14?, and he isn't taking care of his baby mama Any credible news site to prove that he's got a kid? I coundnt find any |
Let's approve $700 Billion for Wall Street so that idiotic CEOs should be rewarded, then let Americans suck it up and pick up from scratch. If we truly believe in this 'do nothing approach" Americans should swap positions with Nigerians where Naija govt does not do anything for its citizens. Spend $800 biillion in Iraq and spend nothing on American soil. senate minority leader Mitch Mcconnell saying that govt does not create jobs while still getting his paychecks from US tax payers. Some Republican senators and house members saying that GOVt does not provide healthcare while still being covered by Blue Cross Blue Shield provided by Govt and funded by US taxpayers. Let all the policies we all wish for start from our backyard. |
Is Chinedu Nebo from Enugu state? Yes, he was the DVC of ESUT |
Current UNN VC is the first Enugu indigene to occupy such a position even though UNN is located in Enugu state. |
@ Negro-nuts. No Kidding, I thought it was about savings Saving is to China what French fries are to America |
INDEPENDENCE -do you what that mean? |
i lost my life savings at savanah bank. I went to the bank on Feb 13 to get some money for Val day and went back on feb 15th only to discover that it was under lock and key. Their licence alone is worth N25billion. kudos to their lawyers. |
Poster: Thanks for your objectivity. Even though you love this guy, it seems that you may not have a future with him. This is what I tell my female friends- if i have dated 10 girls in my life 8 would gladly accept my proposal for my marriage, but i would find only 2 compatible with me. Not that I did not love the rest of 6, but they were not compatible. Compatibiity is degree of tolerance you have for each other. I have a friend who likes to drink, but he can only stand a bottle of light beer. Now, you can see that this guy loves to drink, but alcohol is not compatible with his body. Should he now become a stupor since he loves kissing the bottle? New romantic relationships in most instance do not embody the type of love we tend to ascribe to them. The reason why my lovely mum did not throw me away when I was a kid after I had pissed on her dinner table was because of unconditional love- this might not exist in a new romantic relationship. You may not go out with a person if they got a stinking breath, bad body odour, unemployed, bad dentition, short etc. This is where compatibility comes. But your family will love regardless of these shortcomings. Let's not confuse family love with romantic love. |
Eathmama This is not a Nigerian thing. How many senators or celebrities lose their jobs or endorsements just because someone accused them of rape even though they pled not guilty?. Didn't Jonathan Akpoborie get suspended in his club (VFB Stuttgart) because his vessel was involved in child trafficking and the Nigerian media somehow accused him of it? Was he not suspended and nearly fired by the club over just an accussation by a Nigerian newspaper?. Was Taribo West not suspended in his German club because his Nigerian wife that was still in Nigeria threatened fire and brimstone over divorcing him? You are not getting the point. Jonathan Akpoborie's vessell had been accused of child trafficking which could happen to you if your car was used for the same illegal operation. Akpoborie's club cannot fire him for seeking redress in a law court since he will stand in as the accuser not the accused. Etim is the accuser and Jay Jay is the accused. HITV's action shows that they dont believe in due process. Its a kangaro organisation. Is it their company policy that their staffers should not get involved in any form of litigation? Cos i dont see any reason why what happened outside their organization should be used to fire Etim without waiting for court to render their verdict. As per Taribo West getting fired becuase of divorce you are not telling us the whole story. Athletes get invloved in divorce all the time and they dont get fired cos some of their employers might have gone through 3-5 bitter divorces. Check your stories and comparisons. You dont get fired for being the accuser not the accused. |
How could you leave a good paying job in the UK? I guess you were not thinking right cos you ought have secured the source of that happines or "love" love 'may not" be the same as money, but money is a lubricant in romantic relationships Get over it. Join moveon.com |
I think its a bad idea to go with your husband given the fact that he had not told his parents about you until he popped the ring. Its like taking your man to your parents without ever mentioning him to your parents. Its like you are begging to be "married" to this guy which I know that you are not. He should be the one to explain everything to his family not you. |
dont go |
A trained lawyer in Naija doing care work abroad, to me is a degradation. Argue it from today till tommorrow, I wont shift my stance on this. There's a difference between a professional and layman. Have you seen a UK trained lawyer doing care work? If the Nigerian trianed lawyer can retrain in UK, he/she can get a better paying job. Obama once worked at Dairy Queen. |
How about role reversal here? Ask a Nigerian woman that she will pay for a dinner and see if you can get a date. Let us look at African culturre with holistic mirrow. Would African women agree to pay for wedding 100%? Or no wedding at all? |
you still have not figured out the difference between hatred for Nigeria and criticising Nigeria |
Prince U better read my post well.Actually now i know the type of Ghanaian u are.All the fact u kept on spreading on here u have not been able to prove any to us either that is wht makes it unreal. You better read my post very well, I never said Nigeria is the best or perfect. People like you are jst ordinary ghanain that are being caried away by little. My fren like i said there more pressing issues in Ghana ,other than election issue jst as it is in every country. I read all you post unless you have some buried in your head without posting all of them. This post is about Ghana being a model to Nigeria for organizing elections period. If Ghana has other problems so is Nigeria and you are free to compare other Nigerians issues with Ghana's. Bring them on and you will be able to see that Ghana fares much better than Nigeria. But, again you don’t believe that my facts are real, shoot me some of your facts for comparison. I know what will be your typical response. These facts are unreal without even showing some real fact. Since opposite of real is unreal show me some real facts. It’s not going to happen. Naija style. America had a good election process in 2000 and 2004 but jst ended up with 8yrs of economic disaster and budget deficit. Use ur tongue and count ur teeth before u jst come up here and start bragging about ghana. It is delusional to think that 2000 and 2004 caused all the economic problems. Would it be suffice to say that good elections in the past 100 years have made America an envy of the world? There is not a causal effect to show that good elections are bad for a country’s economic development, instead it is the contrary. As per elections not being a vehicle for economic and social development? Can you give me lists of best countries in the world and worst countries in the world? You will not be surprised to see that best ruled countries are democracies and worst ruled countries are autocracies and semi autocracies. Its only free and fair election that can help Nigeria. |
Like I pointed out on the masquerade thread, there are many parts of Nigeria where masquerades openly set out to terrorize women and children. And yes, its part and parcel of our culture. Women and children in the vicinity are expressly threatened with flogging, chased till they find shelter somewhere, and harassed in various ways by men/boys dressed up as masquerades. Some women are threatened with dire punishments if they confront one or learn any of the 'secrets" of the cult. can you explain how this mentality doesnt become engrained in the minds of most Naija males especially when it comes to gender relations? And how such a culture of flogging women doesnt favor men? My argument borders on economic independence not on masquerades. I don’t know about you, it is ludicrous to think the mentality of most Naija males is formed by the idea of seeing a menacing masquerade in your town. How about Nigerians raised in urban areas most of whom did not have anything in common with these menacing masquerades? I am of the opinion that we should balance this. Do not put so many financial burdens on the men in order to run the family. Marriage should de-emphasize man as a sole provider and define it as a family of equal providers not in principle. A lot thing about African culture in the context of role of women and men would need to be carefully redefined in order to fit into modern ways of doing things. I am yet to see anyone tackle the issue of letting the man pay for everything which makes some men to think that they should have a lot of control. I think pitching in makes a woman assert more independence. |
texas and face bullets and torture, eh? Mugabe is now blaming the west for the cholera outbreak in his country. What an idiot! Do you really think that external forces can force him out of government? Pro democracy groups are not as strong they were in Nigeria during Abacha era. We need robust opposition. I remembered 5 man million march in Nigeria organised by folks like late Chidi Ubani, Gani,Falana,Soyinka,Pa Ajasin, and co. Finally likes of Ekwueme held all politicians summit in ABuja and summoned the courage to tell him to resign. The only formidable opposition is coming Morgan whose party is even split. Or maybe they should look at South Africans as their neighbours on how they fought apartheid. This kind of robust engagment of Zimbabweans has not been seen so much on public arena. Imagine millions of South Africans moving to Zimbawe during apartheid and allowing minority whites to rule forever. |
I don’t really know to tackle this myth. I think " African men" in the context of this discussion are double-edge sword to most women. Women ab initio are taught to be fearful of men. eg if you get close to boys you will get pregnant and are all nurtured to believe that a woman whose husband is a good provider is better than a woman who has a Ph.d without a husband. Then it becomes a dicey situation given the fact that you would have to revere those men and also fall in love and live with men most of whom have already been made to look like monsters. I think these conflicting definitions have made it much more difficult for most African women in the west to think that African males are out there to dominate. I think this misconception of male/female relationship also runs in western hemisphere, its just that western men have come to understand that mutual relationships are integral parts their culture. Now to women in the west, there is always a conflict of cross cultural assimilations. For instance, how many westernized African women would let their fiancés forgo "African marital rites" traditional wedding, asking your hands in marriage, lavish traditional rites over a white wedding ceremony for about 2 hours? How many of African women would agree that their families would sponsor their wedding not the groom? I tend to see a selective application of western values amongst our women when it comes to financial responsibility. I am of the opinion that women should set forth their careers for themselves, but should also bear the same responsibility as men. I usually see this amongst my friends who are married. They will say our wives run everything in the house so long as we don’t talk about their finances. One of the disadvantages of African values is the conformity that to be provided for is OK even when the recipient is in a better position to pursue her goals and become a big giver in life. Its also part of our cultural assimilations to think that a man’s way of demonstrating affection or preparedness for a family is through his pockets. |
only Zimbaweans can tackle Mugabe. Time to act is now. Stop moving to South AFrican and redeem your nation. |
Pricekevo Hey my guy not because we are criticising our govt. to put them in order gives u the right to come here and talk shit about Nigeria. Or coming here to give us some facts that are unreal just to compare Ghana to Nigeria. If not for ur Dr frog philosophy every Ghanaians move about with i wonder how u guys would be comparing a country of 150million people with a diversified ethnic group, culture, and religion to a country of jst 23 million with how many ethnics.Which is Almost jst the population of a state in Nigeria. I found myself stupid when i began to compare the both country in development or other areas. We are talking about emulating the good things from our Neighbouring countries, reform them as they would suit a country with a population like ours, and implement them not comparing the country with any other country in Africa. U better come out of ur shell i believe u will discover that Ghana have more pressing issues to tackle jst as Nigeria have or you go Back and ask an average Ghanaian I wonder what's your understanding of facts? How can facts be unreal when you can disprove them? Use your Wikipedia to search how decision rule applies in argument. These are real and true facts until you provide us with contrary evidence. Since Ghana is such a small country, maybe we should use USA, China, India and Brazi as comparisons. It's only Nigerians who are delusion will tell you that everything about Nigeria glitters especially when it comes to holding elections. Every body is against us mentality. BBC, CNN, western media and Nigerians without discrediting any of their stories. Tell me anything that is very wrong about that story. You will see that Ghanaian elections will come and go without any violence. Could the same thing be said of Nigerian elections? NO. |
tpia Maybe you should ask Europeans and Americans why they are more critical of their govts than Nigerians. don't even go there. Some Nigerians have very bad mouths because they were raised in an environment where curses rained down like water, and they demonstrate this over and over again. You don't even know Americans very well. Most of the folks who did not vote for Bush or the war will tell you so many bad things about America. Did you not see the way they described Washington during elections which to my own view is most organized and powerful political capital in the world. Most Americans see it as broken, corrupt, inefficient, bad manager or resources and lobbyists infested and driven. where have you seen Americans and Britons cursing their country like Nigerians are wont to do? Cursing isnt in their culture - rather, they use sarcasm to make their point, or else bluntly hand it to you. Nigerians do not curse like Americans. Cursing is ingrained in their vocabulary or speeches since they mostly use colloquials and slangs to describe frustrating situations. Most westerners cannot afford to put up with 1/100 messy situations Nigerians live with every day. Nigerians are most hopeful people I have ever seen- Imagine an election where it was open that Yar'dua was rigged in and most Nigerians were of the opinion that they should give this man a chance. Also I don't see any correlation between criticizing your govt to live up to a humane standard and non delivery of basis services of life. You seem to suggest that bad mouthing an ineptitude govt is a causal factor for non performance. as per Ghana- the grass is always greener on the other side of the field. Anyone who wants to cry over Ghana's seemingly better situation is free to move to Ghana. Always insulating ourselves from genuine criticisms. So Nigerians should move to Ghana for demanding basic amenities from their govt? You have never accepted the fact that Ghana has more credible elections than Nigeria, you blamed it on BBC and Nigerians. This is reminiscent of Prof Jerry Gana OBJ's mouth piece. I'm yet to see your rebuttal for any of these indicators listed earlier. The reason why we go to school and allow our teachers to test us is that sell assessment could lead to self deception. If you can test yourself, you get 100%, but if your teacher tests you may not do well as getting a 100% |
tpia all this stress over a BBC report? whats the big deal? Only thing I noticed about BBC and Ghana is they tend not to run any negative articles on the country. However, they're not afraid to do so when its Nigeria or some other places. This may also be reflecting the general attitudes of the citizens of the respective countries in real life. Nigerians tend to badmouth Nigeria. Ghanaians don't badmouth Ghana. There are Nigerians and Ghanaians working at the BBC. Go figure. Maybe you should ask Europeans and Americans why they are more critical of their govts than Nigerians. The point is that there is really nothing good in politics to talk about in Nigeria if the frame of reference is GHANA. Ghana beats Nigeria in every thing. Check Foreign Policy Magazine of failed state. Check Transparence International, Check world bank and IMF Stats on economy, Check best ruled African countries by ranking, Check Human Development Index. Check world University rankings. So what do you say about these indicators? Maybe they are occupied by Nigerians in order to bad mouth their country. Time to face the truth. Nigeria sucks and Ghana has more values for democracy than Nigeria. Seun, maybe we need to kill 3000 people in order to value human life. Isnt Ghana better given the fact that it values human life than Nigeria. At least it has not killed a soul let alone over 300 folks over religion. |
game-rod Shut the f up, you and him, he should first remove the specks in his eyes, in his country America, where there is a wide gap between the affluent and the rich, what is the big deal about the same thing in Nigeria? Which country has more under bridge dwellers in this world than in America? I am sick and tired of these foreign pests who only take one trip to Nigeria and thinks they have seen and known about the whole country to write gibberish and junk when they go back to their sick country You have given me an insight as to why our politicians insulate themselves from criticism and surround themselves with sycophants. Comparison between homeless in LA and someone in Aso Rock. A homeless man who over does dopes and passes out and a 911 call is made and he is airlifted to UCLA center for treatment by best doctors and the most powerful man in Nigeria- Yar'dua passes out and I frown abroad for simple exhaustion. So a homeless man in America has a better access to health than your president. |
