Even if Atiku receives a clean bill of health from Almighty, I will be not be voting for him in a million years, because he is part of OBJ. My point is that ATiku cannot be more corrupt than OBJ. If Atiku is more corrupt as OBJ is making gullible minded fellows to believe, then ATIKU had been running the country. OBJ awarded 100% of the contracts, and controlled ministry of Petroleum not Atiku. The point is that stopping Atiku from contesting election will never stop corruption in Naija, but prosecuting him and all other politicians will to a great extent deter incoming politicians. The will to fight corruption is there, but there is no strength because OBJ has not practiced what he preached, that’s why other Govt officials/governors copied. If OBJ hands were not soiled in corruption, he would have had the effrontery to prosecute those politicians. How can they list ministers like Kwankwaso, and Agagu who served under OBJ and yet they are not prosecuted, while OBJ was able to prosecute Dr Fabian Osuji for offering bribes of about N 55 million to NASS, yet we cannot prosecute people who stole billions including OBJ

Judges can deliver rulings based on certain situations, like precedent, national interest, security etc. Gore Vs Bush was purely on national interest just like the way the Supreme court ruled in favour of OBJ in his case with Buhari. The courts acknowledged there were malpractices, but ignored them so as not to create a political vacuum.

How come other senators and governors  who crossed over to other parties did not resign their positions. It looks like some folks here are bereft of some democratic procedures in a presidential system. So many governors have had problems with their deputies, Chris Ngige, Tinubu,Orji Uzo etc. They did not fire their deputies, but  they were impeached by their houses of assembly. OBJ thought that he was bigger than our constitution, unfortunately  this is not a parliamentary system where a prime minister can fire his/her deputy. OBJ sought for Nigerian  votes on the platform of OBASANJO/ATIKU ticket, so he cannot extricate  Atiku from his job.

Fellas, this is a president of illegality, Remember Fmr Justice Uwais said that he would have ordered for his arrest for contempt of the law. OBJ has lost all his cases. from Bakassi, Lagos vs FG, Oil producing states,Ngige,Oyo State, Peter Obi  to Atiku. I believe that  his legal team has  performed woefully. Charge and bail lawyers might have  done better.

We are not supposed to be commenting on this threat because the judiciary is not there to serve the purpose of Mr president. that's the only institution that can tell Mr president you are wrong without offending him, Mr Ali-PDP, and EFCC. Their onus is to interpret the law.

shutmouth,
you have just shown your bias and naivety.OBJ has virtually lost all his cases. What's democracy without judiciary? Naija constitution prevailed over OBJ wishes.

@Abeem, thoughtful piece
I thought I was the only voice in the wilderness. If EFCC becomes a tool for political vendetta, these incoming politicians might weaken its power of operation, so as not to scuttle their political ambitions. They need to say out of politics so that it does not become like NEPA or NTA. OBJ does even have the power to ask a governor who heads a different tier of government to appear before a panel.
Politics › Re: Indicted Politicians Cannot Contest by adconline(m): 10:05pm On Feb 18, 2007
EFCC is not there to break the law like corrupt politicians but to bring to book those who flout the law. EFCC should take their case to a competent court in Nigeria not to FG as a prosetutor, interpreter and executor of the law.
Believe me the only thing they can achieve at the moment is to stop Atiku and Co from contesting election, but cannot put them in jail in order to recover what they have allegedly stolen. massive looting continues after OBJ is gone unless we do things right. Imagine EFCC putting VP in jail will serve as deterrent to others that anyone can go down. FG does not have the right to put someone like Atiku to jail, but the courts have such powers. I want a system that will gradually put an end to corruption because at the moment these folks will walk free after May 2007.
Politics › Re: Orji Uzor Kalu's Interview On Hardtalk! by adconline(m): 9:35pm On Feb 18, 2007
As per tribalizing this topic, this is the problem with Naija where a tribe is always portrayed as the source of our problems.  Get back to the topic ok. I know for  sure that he was richer than OBJ and most governors, but that does not give him the right to mess with public fund,  which is like Mayor Bloomberg of New York messing with public funds because he is a billionaire

Iam not in support of the fact that Kalu could not speak proper English. He went on international media platform whose medium of communication is nothing but English. Nobody forced him into that interview.
Remember this Fella, attended a university in Nigeria as stated in his CV. If he could not express himself in English, tell me the difference between him and a roadside mechanic who did not go to college.
We Naija seem to have low benchmarks for our leaders . Leadership is not by force, so he does not attract my smpathy for disgracing Nigerians.

He even went to Harvard Business School, yet we are holding brief for him.

I would like to know  how to  get an affordable health insurance coverage in Nigeria. Do hospitals accept them? Is it difficult to file a claim?
Politics › Re: Indicted Politicians Cannot Contest by adconline(m): 12:50pm On Feb 18, 2007
I  will say it again, I am not holding brief for Atiku and Co,  but  OBJ does not need a blank cheque to fight corruption. EFCC must work within the confines of the law. Why did EFCC insert a guy's name who never held public office, simply because he is contesting against Iyabo Obasanjo.

I want Atiku and Co to be prosecuted.  Why is OBJ the minister of petroleum and there is scarcity? Why is that after eight years, our refineries are  still not working. oh my bad Atiku is responsible. PHCN/NEPA is not working despite huge sums of money allocated to it - Atiku  should held responsible.

We are treating corruption superficially as if to say that Atiku and Co introduced corruption to this administration.
Why indict Atiku when you know that your hands  are  tied in corruption no to prosecute him?
Nigerians are poorer today because OBJ mismanaged  about $180 Billion not Atiku. Let OBJ declare  his assets. Let OBJ borrow a leaf from South Africa.  Jacob Zuma went to court to prove his innocence.
NAFDAC had a case against Mr Marcel Nnakwe  for selling fake drugs and  ploting to  kill  Dora Akunyili, they went to to prove their case. EFCC  must go to courts to  prove their case.

Politics › Re: Indicted Politicians Cannot Contest by adconline(m): 12:01pm On Feb 18, 2007
@ Mckren,

My point is that there is a bigger question of corruption here, OBJ  and  his cronies got about  $180 billion for the past years and started  setting up a panel to indict  people less than 3 months to go. We need to probe deeper, why now and what happened to bigger chunk of $180 Billion,  because OBJ awarded all the federal contracts, not Atiku.

OBJ already knows that FG cannot prosecute Atiku and Govs because of immunity, why not deal with this immunity clause monster through NASS since  most of the  members are from his party. He got NASS under his control. Remember that Atiku was the Chairman of National Council on Privatization and EL Rufai was  Chairman of BPE, why did EL Rufai not raise red flags when these things were going.  He is by extension culpable. Remember  that MOFAS account  was operated jointly with OBJ, so he cannot extricate himself from that mess. OBJ has not denied any connection with this account.

If OBJ had won his  third term with Atiku's support, would the VP have been indicted? The answer is no, so the looting continues even right now. This is a grand design orchestrated at stopping people from contesting election and showing to some Nigerians that we are fighting for corruption. There is no difference between that so called and Oputa panel, Buhari refused to appear and FG has not done anything  about it.
As regards  to Agbakoba, he was merely representing the opinion of NBA not his personal opinion as Gani did.  Can we use because of  democracy and allow OBJ to run the whole country amok? Let them follow the law. Atiku's case is pending before a  Court in Abuja, let the laws of the land prevail, not OBJ wishes.  Can OBJ and his ministers successfully account for  $180 Billion  spent in the last  8 years?
Finally, lets  not forget that EFCC will live beyond May of 2007 and if its entangled in political situations like  this, it cannot freely prosecute corrupt politician because incoming NASS members may weaken its powers. EFCC  must be apolitical like NAFDAC.  I still remebered what Anyim and some senators did with ICPC when OBJ used it as a tool to witchhunt political dissidents.
Politics › Re: Indicted Politicians Cannot Contest by adconline(m): 11:53pm On Feb 17, 2007
Its like when  you know more than NBA and Olisa Agbakoba. They rechoed what we are saying OK.  You  have to open your mind to a lot of ideas, like I said,  I like EFCC , but detest the way they are going about their job. You can hate a war, but love soldiers,  Let it also be known that selective publication of names without prosecution in order  to stop one from contesting election is illegality of  the same order.

I would want EFCC to bring charges against Atiku because he has so many things to tell Naija, but OBJ will not allow that to happen. I hate window dressing by EFCC,  they should take these politicians head on and send them to where they belong- prison. If we do not resist this skewed  process  they are   using to go about their work, its going to set a precedent for  incoming presidents to witchhunt their opponents .
Remember, if OBJ had succeeded in his 3rd term agenda, it could have set a precedent, but nobody will try that shoddy constitutional amendment  in a long time to come. It pains me to see that Atiku and Co would  not have been barred if OBJ had won his 3rd battle without any resistance from Atiku and CO.

NBA Faults EFCC Over List Of " Indicted" Candidates

Briefing journalists yesterday shortly after a two-day National Executive Committee meeting of the NBA held at the Imo Concorde Hotel, Owerri, the Imo State capital, NBA President Mr. Olisa Agbakoba said the manner in which the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) drew up the list and quickly submitted to the presidency, which in turn approved it left much to be desired. Agbakoba (SAN) noted that it was only the court that had the statutory right to indict and warned on the dangers of executive lawlessness.

Even in America, FBI cannot say that someone is guilty of a crime without prosecuting that person. EFCC should step up the play and prosecute these people. EFCC has resorted to convicting people in the court of public opinion. Let there some precedents that will be laid down by EFCC. Injustice to one is injustice to all. My pain is that Andy Uba is the most unqualified person to be a governor, yet he's free.

MCkren,
I don't read saharareporters  to attack OBJ,  but to collaborate my story and expand my views. The issue here is that Ribadu can go against Atiku not OBJ  and his cohorts.  I think we Nigerians have low benchmarks if any for corruption.  EFCC cannot circumvent the rules to nail OBJ opponents.  That's why we saw something wrong in  Atiku and co and did not/ will not see anything in OBJ and co. Corruption is  corruption, there can never be sacred cows.  That's my point. Bythe way I will trust them more Mr Frank Nweke.

Men are dogs with male dogs or female, by extension women are dogs too, because men do it mostly with women. Most men that are very insecure are mostly parasites who think they need to cling on a woman to achieve success in life.

Where is EFCC when Human Rights Watch wrote a scathing corruption on Gov Odili. A state that spends about$ 1.3 billion annually, yet does not have anything to show for it. I bet Human Rights Watch is more reputable and unbiased than that Administrative Panel

Where is Bode George on that list. Where is Anthony Anenih whose ministry spent $3billion on Naija roads yet we have worst road network in the region. Where is Fasawe on that list? Where is Andy Uba who connived with the president to fly money in his jet to the US. If these people could steal that much money, how much did OBJ and cohorts steal? What has he done with over $180 Billion in his 8years. Who benefited from Pentascope deal worth millions of dollars? Let the fight against corruption be holistic. VP said something about his farm, he responded by saying the he borrowed money from a bank, I know that he stole the money from treasury because he had no money when he came out from prison. What is OBJ doing to own a University, Library and 200 million shares at Transcorp? His annual salary is less than N20 million a year.

First there is Immunity for VP and Governors. I had wanted OBJ to deal with this stone wall in our constitution, but he refused and replicated it with Administrative body that does not have any legal teeth. Just like Oputa panel that could force my worst enemies IBB and Buhari to testify.
