Danielhouston:Exactly and life happened to them all...there's always some sort of adrenaline at the beginning then you lose interest except you get some value in return. Value keeps people contributing. I see some value on your page that brought me out of my shell, I am here already, now i need info on the way forward and not repeat the mistakes my predecessors made by learning from their experiences. |
Danielhouston:Ofcourse, loads of us did. Hi, got to Germany last year winter, been on your thread for a while but school work's got me so hooked, given its online and diff lecturers employed diff teaching means, some zoom, some on YouTube, some recorded lectures on forums where you are mandated to discuss for Marks. Was ashamed when you wrote the Hamburg hbf isnt a very clean place because it's true but if you move little northwest towards jungfernsteig, that's where the beauty lies. Hamburg is linked to the river Elbe housing the largest port in germany and third largest In europe, so we have a very nice collection of waterside views. Believe me, it's a beautiful city! All I can say about the education is, they build your confidence, you cannot pass through their system and not know what you're doing. It's really impossible. I'm glued to your page, can't really contribute because of school and work and I'll say; YOU'RE DOING THE LORD'S work! Viel spaß |
I’ve had the intention to write ever since, but I always never knew where to start from. Thank you Nairaland! It's been amazing!!! The real truth is that Nairaland helped me get here from start to finish; the wealth of information here from people's experiences is all you would ever need to achieve those goals. My one advice; NETWORK as much as you can, yes there are going to be bad eggs. I've not met any so far and I'm not going to deny their existence, but it's still the best way to get a hang of the new environment. Like plenty folks here, I have no family here but good lord! I have friends and my source is Nairaland! Before I traveled to Hamburg, again from Nairaland; I was able to connect and create a WhatsApp group of folks going to the same school with me; about 9 of us. Believe me, it has been my strength. It still feels very much like Nigeria for me and its one of the biggest challenges newbies face when they arrive here. I couldn’t contact the school/accommodation guides when I arrived, it was these friends (who traveled earlier than I did) that came to receive me at the airport (even got lost in the process when they went to board a train that detaches before it goes to the airport and the other part goes to another stop which of course they had no prior knowledge of then) and took me to my dorm, I was already settled in my dorm before the dorm administrator brought papers for me to sign, my friends literally secured my space for me. I came in on a Sunday, Germans take their Sundays very seriously; all their shops were closed and these same friends fed me good food till I could go get groceries on Monday (wonderful friends rights ). My Challenges; the German language was taught in English back in Nigeria, here it was and has been auf Deutsch, I mean I was A2 material when i left Nigeria, the first two weeks German intensive classes were traumatizing for me, the teachers refused to speak in English as they believe the best way to teach you the language is in the language, it wasn’t funny at all. After intensive classes, I gently went to demote myself to A1 (I cannot kee myself), let's start all over again and my listening is really bad; I have to wait for the verb(mostly at the end of the sentence) before I get what you are trying to say and most times, I don’t get it at all and you have to make hand gestures to communicate with me in Deutsch. The method of teaching, standard and quality of teaching here is on another level, Nigeria didn’t prepare me for this, projects, presentations, class discussions in almost every class makes the course very demanding and that’s how all courses are. Initially, I leave every class stressed and confused but again, I'm Nigerian, we adapt and since my co-participants are humans, i’ll survive too. But its something to prepare for when you conceive the idea to come study here especially STEM guys. Like my wonderful predecessors, i intend to give back to the community, still finding my feet though but time makes all things better. Above all, travelling to Germany is worth it if you crave sanity and an organized life, it is a top destination. The challenge as we all know is the language and it is surmountable. Back in Nigeria, i was not a selective person when it comes to food, i could literally eat anything and i felt food won't be a challenge for me when i get here but its been a shocker that i couldn't bare to re-taste plenty of their foods, they all look nice from afar but take a bite and you'll wish you could go back in time to just admiring from afar. They're SALT people; i mean they eat everything with salt, even boiled eggs or maybe its just Hamburgers. Finding the bread i could subscribe too wasn't a walk in the park, i have wasted a significant amount of euros on salty or tasteless breads or some that taste like sawdust before some good Samaritans from NL-connect prescribed "butter brochie" and "butter sandwich" for me, believe me i was rejoicing when i finally tasted it, i will only have been happier if my wife just delivered a baby...lol. I didn't pack plenty food from Naija, and i cannot say i'm paying for it. Everything is here, you just have to find the right place or substitute but if you're on a tight budget please come with plenty food AND WARM CLOTHES for winter, i can say clothing is really expensive and gets more expensive as winter approaches. The time came back +1 today, maybe I could catch the time now because its been eluding my grasp ever since I came. NSIG has been informative and wonderful, RCCG Hammerbrook (Hamburg) has plenty supportive folks too. Now I understand why many do not have time for NL and I admire those that do. With warm regards |
dailydolar:TK issues a separate travel insurance certificate (displaying coverage dates). It's the same for HEK and BarmerK, I'm thinking AOK should be the same (i have no personal experience). I can't say the same for Mawista and Care Concept but recent information tells us people that submitted mawista certificate got their visas with no issues. Maybe care concept would fly, maybe not. Although, I've been to the page and I didn't see where travel insurance was included in the package. Like I said, I stand corrected and someone alleged to have submitted care concept at his interview, hopefully the AM would come without requesting for Travel insurance Thank you |
Tamax:I believe your questions have been answered adequately. From my experience, care concept doesn't cover your travel to DE ( I stand corrected). Its the cheapest for a reason. Buy mansard schengen travel insurance its 14K for 3 months and 17K for 6 months. Viel glück |
Tamax:1. If you're very close to 30 say 29, stay away from public insurance bro...lol, you would be paying in the 100s monthly. The approval mail AM always requests for a 3 or 6 months travel insurance starting from or close to your travel date (has to be earlier than travel date). So you need to submit that travel insurance certificate to the embassy to get your visa. 2. When you subscribe to any of these aforementioned health insurance packages from Nigeria, You still don't have a German insurance that covers your health yet (so you cannot tick it/yes because you only booked a spot with either insurance company in advance) the contract becomes valid when you land in Germany, so the answer is still NO. It becomes valid when you start paying for it in Germany, as its not free; the advance travel insurance is just an incentive from this health insurance company to ease costs. N.B not entirely activated, travel is but health isn't. If you incur an injury or have health issues in Nigeria before your travel, TK isn't gonna be responsible, lol...just painting a picture for you. 4. Submitting the certificate when you go for (at) your visa interview is the only way they won't, not because you ticked it. They need to see the certificate, so you either submit at the interview or after you've received your AM which will come with clear instructions to submit it. Vielen grüße |
Tamax:First off, you need to know and decide if you are going to be subscribing to a private health insurance or a public health insurance, they both have their pros and cons. Public insurance (AOK, BK, HK, TK) is the best But they're more expensive, the least expensive (TK) is 92€/month. While private insurances are cheaper for example care concept is 35€/month while Mawista is 45€/month. Public insurances (I'm sure of TK, HK, BK) offered by coracle(they're the agent that brings customers [students] to these insurance companies) offers you free travel insurance. You set the date: I subscribed to TK since April and I set my travel insurance start from September to March 2020(6 months). You won't pay the fees for certificate issuance for any of this health insurance packages (to tender at the embassy) until you get to Deutschland when they'll start insuring your healthy. For people close to 30, 30 and above, you're advised to subscribe to private insurance because public insurance becomes much more expensive for people in this age group it shoots up. Now when you subscribe to mawista either through fintiba or directly, you also get a certificate and payment starts In Germany. The only advantage private insurance has over public is the charges, that's all. In other comparisons, public insurance trumps. Alles klar? Ask more questions for clarity. Vielen grüße |
Davudu:Sent you a PM. |
bjayNL:I can say with some certainty that your AM won't request for travel insurance. Mawista health insurance certificate, TK(health travel insurance also covers travel) have all been accepted by the embassy. Don't worry, you won't get "some letters" (AM) that'll request for travel insurance. They'll only request for your passport provided you funded before AM...if you haven't they'll request for your passport and proof of sustenance. Vielen grüße |

Yeah, Travel insurance; when you get your AM you're required to send it along with your passport. 3. Health insurance isn't travel insurance (although, some health insurance packages cover travel insurance) and you don't have a German health insurance in Nigeria. So the answer is NO |
felixboye1:Student visa?? |
Aderiike00:Read the Appointment mail, if anything was said about the number of days allowed prior to the interview to cancel so as not to incite a ban. Alotta folks will be angry with you for the potential wastage of a much needed slot. #ThisIsNigeria |
Toby88:Visa application will only be possible if you have their resident permit, else you're either coming back to Walter carrington to interview or the Abuja embassy if that's where you resided before your travel. |
Philfit:Conditional Admission is different from language school admission that can only get you a language visa. @fabcol is obviously talking about language visas, you cannot work on a language visa or convert it to a student visa, you have to exit and reapply for a student visa after the duration of your language course which is usually not more than a year. Language visa is different from student visa, conditional admissions get you student visas but they sometimes go south especially when the prior language possessed is insufficient. You both know what you're talking about but I guess you don't understand yourselves. Short term visas are not in this category which prompted fabcol's answer to the guy, or did your friends travel On short term visas and extended it? Mit freundlichen Grüßen |
chimax1:Take your time
|
Franksuka:Take your mobile number off the (public) forum and send PMs to one another. Regards |
Whitemagic:You can cc pompido and janettee on the student visa thread when you redirect your questions over there. we're trying to keep this thread for survival In Germany only. Dankeschön |
lynniebabes:Direct your questions to the student visa thread |
Fabcol:LOL... Naija for life! |
NijaDueprocess: sassy92:It was 404/€ on the 17th of July (Form A Zenith bank)...it's not static and the fees charged was just NGN5,250 for the transaction(FX sales). I think one should just inquire what the rate is on the fiscal day to evaluate and weigh one's options. Vielen grüße |
Ayooluwa45:If you can fully enroll online(or by proxy), have your school(or proxy)send your enrollment certificate to you. Take your enrollment certificate to the embassy on your interview date; that's the only way to circumvent this. They don't give visas for elapsed enrollments. Viel Glück |
TEMIDARA234:Do not cancel it, hoping you get a date tho... Viel glück |
Naetoja:If this was stated on your admission letter(AL), chances are the embassy would interview you and later send a mail to you to submit the said certificate (A1) OR not. If you have another AL without conditions I suggest you use that one, I've witnessed a situation where they sent a mail to an acquaintance to submit the English proficiency (IELTS or TOEFL result) required by his school at enrollment for his course. Stay safe Vielen grüße |

Lakkyjay:How do you feel after you've quoted this whole thing now?? Try to reduce the quoted post, the pages keep running, you'd think the Infos are that plenty not knowing its repetitions. |
Sahmyhandsome:I can see Its a condition admission. Send a mail to your school to see If they could extend further or get a new placement test date much further from the initial one and use the new date to rebook a new appointment after you cancel the old one. You've been on the queue for a while, maybe try November? |
Sahmyhandsome:Language admission as in an admission to study Deutsch in Germany? If I'm correct, I'll advice you to abort mission and get a proper admission. Or a conditional admission that admits you to an STK after you've learnt the language to some level, this doesn't come without some prior language (Deutsch) proficiency. Language admission implies language visa, (not student visa) which is quite hard to obtain cos there's Goethe institute in Nigeria. Why travel the distance and spend much more when you'd still come back to apply for proper student visa which is the ultimate goal (this are the questions that requires answers). Vielen grüße |
bjayNL:Hi brother, I understand your distress and I'll advice to be mild to yourself, keep hoping and never stop praying. 3. The German Embassy in Nigeria introduced categorizing in may this year, its nascent and people already In Germany do not have this experience and cannot answer your question from experience. 4. The Vo confirms your category, an appointment at the embassy gets you through Paulinus. Your VO asks the Category you booked and how you qualify for it. 5. Go with both old and new passports if you have it or a copy of the old passport biographical page and the new passport. You use the new passport number on the visa application (all applications). You might have a lil trouble with Paulinus at first but be rest assured it'll be sorted and you'd have your interview. I leave the remaining question to people with the experience. Hang in there bro, the anxiety can be overwhelming...take care |

bridget149:Yea sure! Don't lose the accommodation, odds are because of your deadline the embassy didn't start processing your application immediately like a lot of others on this queue earnestly refreshing their emails daily. You will get your AM soon, go ahead and pay for the accommodation. Viel glück |
).
. All he needs to show is proof he is going to do the German language course (payment notification to the language school, and language contract) this way they are sure of his purpose of going to DE
