Yea, most of the time, except those that are awarded full funding... Scholarships and assistantships that covers their expenses; obviously those ones do not really need verifying. I wouldn't know if they verify their SOAs

This Is for every F1 applicant planning to go through Abuja embassy.
The new policy now is that they verify all bank statements before they issue visa. Please don't go with fake bank statement,it's an automatic 10 year ban.

Not only abuja embassy, Lagos too...infact every embassy...we should stop with fake documents altogether. We've already been tagged as fantastically corrupt. Hand them less negative tags to pin on us.

People should realise how hard they've made it for genuine students to secure visas. If your intent is to elope don't come and ask people to help you how to do that here, the folks that advised you to elope should be able to finish what they started. If you're a genuine student, try as much as possible to get enough information from your prospective schools by visiting their websites; pouring through as much as you need to and mailing whoever is in charge of their admission coordination. You read some posts and you're sick to the stomach. Stop posting sick things on a public forum you know your stories have holes when you read them out loud. I give up mehn

I just checked and the earliest date rn is December 4. And as at yesterday earliest appointment date was today Oct 25...how did you skip all this dates and made your way to march?

Hello House, I've been following this forum for couple of years but can't but affirm it's indeed an educative forum.
I do have a very serious issues here and i need you guys to advise me. I have been denied F1 visa several times (4)
at the embassy, last time being last year December. All these while, i have always gone with one particular school though
i got admission from other schools. This same school has now offered me admission for 2019 spring semester with half
assistanship (was offered this the last time too). I want to know if it seems logical to apply for visa again for the fifth time
with the same school.
I am actually going for master program in electrical engineering.

I'm curious, what's your profile like? Could you post one of your transcripts? It looks like your money keeps their lights on. You should start factoring in other countries If you're bent on getting a first world country's postgraduate degree...four times is a lot but not enough to give up

Well, if those that have information about the school do not come online or noone actually knows, you can go to the school's website, look for your prospective department, check out the faculty (staff) and get the mail of the graduate school chair, you can direct all your questions to him/her; I'm sure they'd be willing to help.

Application package I guess; transcripts, GRE, sop n lor . I didn't put in a separate application for scholarship consideration. And I sent them a mail immediately after my admission if I was being considered for any tuition waiver. A mail came in later congratulating me

Did they offer you instate tuition for spring? They claim there are no scholarships, I got their fall offer; $1K and instate; i differed. Now they're saying none of those offers are available for spring semester after sending them a mail to enquire if there's a new pool of candidates under consideration.

I am married and my husband is in the US. I have an admission already in the US but yet to get my visa. If the VO ask me if i am married, i want to tell them yes but I am scared if they ask for his name and they find out he is in USA, won't they feel I plan to join my husband and may not go to school. Please help, I don't want to be denied

I think the obvious question is the legality of your husband's stay in the US? You can then post your proposed transcript and let the gurus scrutinize

In July 2018, I was admitted into WVU but because of timing and immigration process, I deferred to Spring 2019 so I can get my 1-20 and other things.

August 2018, I received a notice of successful deferred admission and going through the whole process and getting done, I got a mail from my program assistant this morning that following one policy, I would need to retake the GRE test before I can continue with my admission because according to her "The state is requiring that students have a GRE score of  at least a 296..    You are only 6 points off." I had a 290

She attached the policy for me but God knows I am completely drained and do not have that work/GRE study strength again. What can I do? I am just too sad! After giving me admission then they come up with this when I am just having a prayer point of visa. Someone help!!!:

So sorry to hear this, i dropped wvu because of their mandatory official transcript (I'd rather go through the stress of official transcripts when I'm very certain I'll be attending) after sending both my GRE n TOEFL scores to them.. Wasting of score reporting slot; I was your silent fan, hoping you'd get an assistantship when you announced your admit; I think the last advice about mailing the school is still the best and if you inadvertently have to take the GRE, B.Y mafit offers free classes with the GRE fee; the class might help you with the scores you need and mitigate the stress of studying by oneself. Go easy on yourself it'll eventually end in praise

I'm just wondering why it's taking so long to decide whether to admit me or not...and I exchanged a series of mails with their grad school during the application process

Thank you Macky. I have actually done an extensive research, I found out that the loan is worthy of the investment only if I secure a job in my field in the US after study. To find a scholarship no easy for Spring applicant and the Florida system of education does not allow out-of-state tuition waiver. I got my admission already and the school is covered by these lending agencies because the school is ranked top 100 in Engineering.

The tuition fee is 15k for an academic year. Prodigy finance offers 16k and Mpower offers 25k. I just would like to know how easy it will be, securing a job in the US after this degree as this loan cannot be paid from Nigeria.

Did you try to search for a GA position in your school? Tell me your experience if you did.

Now this is more like what i am talking about, american financial system isn't Santa clause, they wanna make money too even if it's a long haul and they'll need assurance that you'll pay back. Securing an H1b visa isn't a piece of cake...more technicalities becomes involved.

If you have a good credit score and proof of monthly income, you can drive something similar or even better. Monthly payment no pass $300 - $10 an hour job * 40hrs a week = car payment.

I am yet to understand how a monthly payment of below $300 enables them pay off a car loan in like 6 years.... *Thinking***


It's as simple as this!

Six years paying off loans that isn't for business purposes, then you accrue another as you go on, it becomes a rat race of credit score and more loans...one would retire with nothing...get loans only when necessary, for school and important stuffs...you want to buy Camry 2019 as an international student with limited funds just because you have access to loans, isn't that grave digging.. No matter how flexible, loans are loans.

The personal understanding I got from the process is that they look at your entire application package, create a profile and see if you are credit worthy - it's as simple as that.
It didn't take them upto 5 working days to make the decision. A friend of mine put in an application last Thursday midnight/Friday early morning for $7,200 and he has been given a conditional approval - 3 or 4 days decision time similar to mine.
The repayment terms are easy on you and the amount isn't so big - STOP Converting it to Naira!

I am still waiting to see where this matter will end but since I could get $1,500 from the other party, I am thinking if I was approved for the student loan with them, I would have also been credited with the $6,000 like they did with the personal loan.

This is a mature economy, no one is afraid to lend you money. In Nigeria, people collect N1billion, give the bank manager N150m and misappropriate the rest then the 'bad loan' is bought by AMCON for N400m. Google 'who buys bad loans in Nigeria' and 'non performing loans in Nigeria'.
Here, you don't play that game - you'll be charged with fraud or you declare bankruptcy if the money was truly 'lost' but for now student loan debt is not discharged in bankruptcy, you must pay the money.

As I have said severally, go and read on American Credit System and where banks get the money to borrow people.

I guess he is expected to pay the loan on monthly installments, should be around $150 a month with that amount. He will have to start paying it from the next month after borrowing, therefore, they wouldn't wait until the time to "elope" comes; he is still an active student. If you are interested in what happens if he chooses to leave the United States without paying back, since he already has a social security number, the debt will go onto his credit report, and he will no longer be able to enter the United States in the future (he will become inadmissible). This may affect his family members who want to enter the United States in the future, too, due to the embassy's consideration of family history. Other than these, no implications.

Lol, I am not a doubting Thomas and I don't have fraudulent intentions, but the loan isn't only applicable to Nigerians, maybe elope was too powerful a word but the masters program is for two years, $150*24(months)=$3600 that's an $8400 deficit, I'm looking at it from a business angle, its not like Mpower is a charity organization and they won't extend ur visa status because they borrowed you money will they? So I come back to my home country with $8400 debt, who's to make me payback? Or what? Many people only payback loans because they're forced to do so, that's why there are cosigners and collaterals. I am here to learn and I hope mackynaija gets his hands on the $12K...

1. How do they get their money back? Since there is no PR or citizen cosigner that will be held responsible when you elope to ur own country.
2. What value does your home country address bring to the table? Address doesn't indicate ownership of the property does it?
The loan sounds too good to be true as it is a loan and it's expected to be paid back...

My international passport would expire by Aug 2019. Would it be any hindrance to my visa considering I would be issued a 2yr visa which would definitely be beyond the intl passport expiry date.

Anyone who has gone through this? Let me know if it is possible to renew my passport before the Interview or go with it like that since it isn't expired yet
