Well the very 1st advice would be BRACE YOURSELF FOR THE WINTER!

Winnipeg winter gets to -40C easily, so once you get there, make sure you buy yourself a padded jacket, thick gloves and ear muffs (if you don't have a car yet).
For getting apartments: the average cost of a 1 bedroom apartment ranges from $675 pm to about $1000. Depending on what part of city you live in. Two bedrooms start from $700. You can get apartments from kijiji.ca. Also get fairly used furniture from there. You can go to the GoodWill store on Portage Avenue (google it) to buy very good affordable furniture and household items, decor etc.

Safety wise: please stay away from downtown accommodation, because walking at wee hours downtown is not advisable. There are a number of aboriginals (what we call American Indians) downtown and some of them are up to no good. So just be cautious. Make sure when you go to view an apartment, you enquire about pets allowed or not. Try to look around the neighborhood just to make sure your neighbors ain't criminals lol.
You can buy your groceries at Superfoods, Walmart and oriental stores for ethnic foods. I'm clueless on Naija stores as I didn't really make an effort to break into the Nigerian community because I lived on the other side of the city and work had me choked. There's an RCCG church, and they run a shuttle service for members on Sunday. If you rather a non Nigerian Pentecostal church, there's another one somewhere around IKEA. Can't remember the name for the life of me, Nigerians attend too but it's a mixed church. Most Nigerians in Winnipeg live in the proximity of the U of M. I advice try to get somewhere around there so you are amongst your people.
Buses are very regular in the city, you can actually do without a car for the first 6 months.
For work, I advice you register with agencies asap, like Pinnacle and send them your CV. And you could get any office admin role very quickly. You can continue searching for your dream job whilst you do this, so you don't run low on funds.
Bank wise, I recommend BMO. But that's me personally. Because there's always a branch around the corner. But you can go with any of the ones mentioned here.

Verification is 2500, payable to cash office or 3k via ETX, and its usually sent immediately after confirmation of payment.Max 3days, I confuse. If you paid via ETX disturb them with calls till they put pressure on the person in charge.Chaos on campus now though,EFCC vs former VC and staff, but things should be back to normal by next week.

Bros, thanks for this feedback but I have been collecting my transcript from OAU since 2001/2 and its been the same story. Infact I learnt the story as an undergraduate when I saw how former students suffered to get their transcript after many years. Until this one, I always used someone or in the earlier days, I went down myself and sat on their necks, within 2 days, I got my results out. This time I decided to follow official route, it is still on-going. It is well, hope you have been able to resolve yours sha?

Since you've gotten it before, shouldn't take so long.Thought it was a fresh transcript. No didn't go there for transcript, sorted that last year.

My bro/sis, OAU transcript doesn't need more than a week to be ready if everyone is doing their job, max 2weeks if you are applying for the first time.
So you can pay through ETX and follow up the remaining part yourself and let ETX dispatch on completion.
So if you are really in Ife, don't waste time, enter a cool headed smiling officer there, buy "recharged cards" and get them to work.

You pay via ETX-ng, its not only for requests within Naija. Pay and contact anyone you know in OAU to help follow up. May take 8weeks if its the first time you'll be requesting for that particular transcript.

Don't use that link at all, its a complete waste of time, trust me. I didn't know and got stuck in it, till now almost a month after paying for verification, the request is yet to be actioned despite several follow ups. Its really annoying.

You need to send someone physically to the Exam and records to do the whole process, get transcript and then follow up for verification unless you want to use IQAS, then, only to get transcript.
just search OAU transcript on this thread, someone once offered contact details for help in this matter.

Either way you still have to go through ETX, once you get to transcript office they ask if you've paid online, if you've not they give you the ETX link and tell you to come back after payment with proof of payment. Its not ETX's fault, thing is,if its the 1st time of requesting for the transcript, transcript staff have to collate result from your department, @ the department, the secretary will ask for a roll of paper to print(most departments do) transcript staff would just drop the request and leave, to probably check back after a couple of weeks, if during that period there was no paper supply OYO. You wait again till they go back to check, if within that period you get a staff or student to help you follow up, transcript staff wld direct them to the concerned dept and they may have to drop a rim or 2 rim of paper, once that is done, takes less than 2weeks....I dey OAU @ the moment....

These Banks you mentioned all give reference letter. In fact all Banks give reference letter as long as you specify it is for immigration purpose.

For your letter of consent for your wife to use POF - no need for that as long as you are an accompanying spouse. Your marriage certificate proves spousal relationship. I know this issue has led to previous arguments in the past, but I'm 100 percent certain now that you can submit spouse bank account statement as POF and also 25% of Pension is now being calculated for Nigerians as POF.

@ bolded, it depends on the type of account you run with the bank, if its a savings account most if not all banks won't give you a reference letter, best they'll do is a signature confirmation letter which doesn't serve the same purpose

I graduated from University of Maiduguri and did my Law school in Lagos. For security purposes it would be impossible to go back to my school for the WES verification process and i do not have anybody there i can contact to help me. I just want to know if the Results and certificate from the Law School in Lagos would suffice for the verification process; if not what other alternatives can i explore?

Its your degree you need not law schl cert. Use https://www.etx-ng.com/umaid to order your transcript online. IQAS is better for lawyers.

Copied from any earlier post by boss 3 "This is where planning in the PRE-ITA phase is crucial. If you are certain someone is going to give you N4m for 6 months or a year. Better get the money before you get ITA or collect the money, reject the ITA and wait for 6 months and 2 weeks to apply. Your 6 months statement will not show how the inflow came. Also, do well by crediting the account when you have money from time to time. Rather than just leaving only N4m and no transaction flow for 6 months.

Also, You can collect the money. Go get a sale invoice and receipt to show that you either sold an asset and the inflow is proceeds for the sale of the asset. If it is a car, get a receipt, change of ownership document, car documents and the narration - SALES OF CAR from whoever is giving you the money. Then you can explain how you got the huge inflow using LOE.

Alternatively, your spouse can collect the money with their account, credit you with the inflow. The problem here is that the VO afterwards may ask, via ADR, for your spouse to provide his/her statement. You can either back this up by claiming share of inheritance from a dead relative. Get a death certificate, a notarise letter of how siblings will share inheritance and narration should be - YOUR SHARE OF MUMMY'S ESTATE. Then you explain with LOE. Your siblings in the letter should sync with the siblings you have on your family/relatives section. The disadvantage here is that one of your relative is dead - this relative MUST also be indicated dead on your family/relatives section and the date of death should sync with the death certificate and possibly be current - maybe like 2014, 2015 or 2016.

There are still other ways, but your information must be flow properly no loopholes."

If u claimed no points for this sibling preITA (most likely u received ur ITA before the june 6th EE siblings points came into effect); then by all means go ahead and edit ur profile and watch the placeholder for proof diasppear..you may write a LOE if it makes u more at ease.

Alternatively, follow Bimpsy99 advice.....It makes a lot of sense and should be a win-win situation for both parties.

Since CIC states that the funds in the POF must not be borrowed, how do they ensure this, do they check credit history of the applicants or accompanying spouse or BVN checks of bank accounts to see if there is any loan being serviced anywhere?

Let me say for instance a spouse who is not the PA took a loan just before they submitted their application and the loan is for a business venture and in another bank account and not connected to the funds in the bank account (joint account of both PA and spouse with sufficient proof of source of funds) being presented to CIC.

Will this be checked and can it cause a refusal of the application?

. WES evaluates it as 2 or more certs IQAS doesn't, so stick with WES.
SINP and Nova Scotia are the available options but both have been quite unpredictable this year.

1.Yes you are qualified, any work experience in the last 10years does. 3 years gives you the maximum points required,so claiming for 4 years is OK, put the other(s) in the personal history section and you'll be fine.
2. Nope, she can only go with you if you can show you are the closest living relative she has, or if you legally adopt her.
3.RCCG marriage cert is endorsed by the federal Govt(I.e the long cert that comes with the church cert,submit both) so its perfectly OK.

I hear gtb is difficult with the bank letter in required format for savings accts. However, people on this platform have been able to get it done. Just walk into your bank and request it. Preferably put your request in writing. The passport photo should ben doable at any decent photo studio.

GTB only does signature verification for clients wy savings account. Get that and attach with your statement. You'll be fine!

Request for a re-mark in writing asap. Its called enquiry on result. No you don't have to get your POF before entering the pool.

Secondary market for FBN ystdy was 91days- 14%, 120days-17.5%, 134 days-18% as I was abt going for the 134days, the marketing head of the branch came in and told the marketer discussing wt me that there was nothing like that,that I could only get 91days-13.4%,182days- @ 17.4% and 364days-18.3%. I just waka and went for 204days @ 17% with GTB. Got debited immediately,may not sound like a good deal but I'm happy with it, 1st time doing tbills and the interest is enormous as compared with FD which I'm used to.
