Gurus in the house, please what is the time line after medicals? Just linked the paper application with cic online account, and it shows medical passed! Will CIC sent an email requesting for other documents or just to keep checking the online account for further instructions. Thank you for your response in advance. P.S: For people planning to stay back and get their PR after studies in Canada, please narrow your school search to the Atlantic Provinces (Newfoundland, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick). The Government of Canada just came up with a pilot project for graduates of schools from this province that enable them to get PR after studies. Please check this link for more information: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/atlantic/index.asp 4 Likes 3 Shares |

Osemigho: It is possible to have PR while studying. But this is dependent on your past skills set, education, age and work experience before coming to Canada. You are able to apply for federal skilled worker via express entry within Canada, if you meet the criteria. The advantage there is that you have an application for Permanent resident in process, while still in school. But if you don't meet the criteria for Federal Skilled worker, then you have to wait till you graduate. Another option is if your spouse came here to join you, he/she will be given an open work permit, and once he/she works in Canada for one year, he/she is able to apply for Permanent residence under Canadian Experience Class, http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/cec/apply-who.asp with you the student been his/her dependent. This way you can become a PR before you leave school. As per the Vanier Scholarship, I don't have any info about it. You don't have to get married because of papers, you can sort yourself out if you follow the rules. Many of us did it. You too can do it! Shalom 2 Likes |

@ all I hail una oh, please I have some questions; A family friend of mine submitted his study permit application last year October, and got a medical call/mail today. What is the time line after medicals please? His passport is still with CIC. And as per the medical mail from CIC he was given 14 days to complete the medical. He is yet to pay school fees though, can CIC ask him to pay fees after medicals? Thank you all. P.S: I reside in Canada, and I am happy to help others with any questions you may have about settlement/PR after school. All questions will be answered on this forum. Thanks 3 Likes |

ccaramel: I applied for the federal skilled worker,(using my past work experience) since I have open work permit, been a dependent of a spouse with study permit. That way, my spouse now becomes my dependent when I applied for the skilled worker. And we got our PR within nine months of getting here, all to God's glory! Here in Canada, any of the spouse can be a main applicant if he or she has more work experience and qualifications than the other spouse. Shalom 3 Likes |

irridemi: Humm, Newfoundland is a good place to start. My spouse also schools in Newfoundland when we came here two years ago. Newfoundlander as they are called are good people, the provincial govt is also good as well, infact they even support my spouse with her fee, despite been an international student then! However, the down side of it is that there is no job in the province. In our case, I have to go to Alberta to get a job, while my spouse remains in Newfoundland schooling. Generally Alberta province has more jobs than any other province in Canada. Another option is for both of you to be in Alberta, so that your cost can be minimized. Please bear in mind that Memorial University is competitve, as that is the only university in Newfoundland, so u may want to try other schools too, so as to broaden your chances. Shalom 2 Likes |

Dear Op, I will advise that you both relocate to Canada. I and my spouse was once in your shoe two years ago. We both work as a banker in Nigeria, before relocating to Canada. While my spouse was the student, I was her dependent. The immigration law in Canada favours married couples, as any of you can apply for Permanent Residence once you are here, under different immigrration stream. Fast forward, to God alone be the glory, we got our permanent residences within nine months of getting to canada, even while my spouse is still in school. Pleases go for it, if you need more help, please post your questions and I will be more than happy to help. Howvere bear in mind the time difference (we are 8 hrs behind nigeria time) so my reply may not be fast, but I will reply! Shalom 5 Likes 1 Share |

Siga: ....Abi oo... I mean... must they transit through US.... abi if u no fly thru US, Canada no go give u permit... I bet u the flight sef go dey more expensive than others.... To butterss what Don Siga and others has said, US will not allow you to transit through their country except you are from US visa free countries or you hold a valid US visa. In my own case I booked American Airline flight to Toronto from London and we are to have a stopover in New york, but I was not allow to board in Heathrow Airport in London, I had to rebook/reroute my ticket to a direct flight to Toronto via British Airways. @Op I advise you to get a straight flight or try KLM or Ethiopia Airline if you want to have stopover. Shalom |

bumfem: @Janut. I do appreciate the fact that u have ask a simple question. Before I comment on those concerns, I really do not understand why some of us decide to demonize travelling with one's spouse. Guys have been applying with their spouse and got visa approved. When we make it sound as mission impossible many will be student get frustrated and discouraged bcus not everybody can You are perfectly right, to God be the glory I applied together with my spouse and I got my study permit while he was also granted spouse visa. I think it depends on how you package your application, your statement of purpose and how you express ties. Infact, we applied with just about N7.0M in our account. And the visa was granted within five weeks. I encourage student who are married to apply with their spouse. It is a matter of showing the VO that you can't separate from your loved one, and your presence with her/him will make him to excel in his/her studies, and you intend to return back home and start something profitable with the skills aacquired in Canada. Siga: ...Congrats bro..excellent news Don Siga and oga Fhemmy, Kindly help to shed more light on this, my study visa and that of my spouse came in the post today. But to my amazement, while mine was study permit, my spouse who happens to be my dependent was given a visiting visa, though it is valid for the same duration as my study permit. My question is that, how will my spouse work, since spouse of students are allowed to work? How will my spouse get his open work permit? Your detailed response will be appreciated. Shalom |

Chairman, please what financial docs did you submit and how much was your statement balance relative to your school fees? did u have a sponsor? I'm asking because I'm also about to go in the same direction as u did with regards to taking my spouse along. Did u have to add extra living expenses money since she's traveling with you? Thanks.[/quote] I used two statements of account, one Naira account and the one a Sterling account. The Naira account had N4.0M and the Sterling account had £4000 balance |

omo ondo: @adonai36-how far with your application?please,I need further clarification on the 10 bonus point u can get if your education qualifies you to work in a field on the positive list.Is it the level of education e.g masters etc or your education has to be in one of the fields? Am still awaiting their response. I rang their embassy and I was told they have a backlog they need to clear. Though, I have done my biometrics, so I am hopeful to hear from them soonest. As per the bonus point, all what you are required for is to have a diploma or professional degree in that field. An OND,diploma or NCE can suffice. Cypha8: Here you can find the Danish Positive List: Thank you for posting the link for him. Shalom |
