Seems I touched on something that hurt real bad.

Anyway, to avoid diverting attention to other issues I shall relax and see your intelligent comments on this issue even though I doubt it will be different from others we have seen here where in reality you have be proven wrong in over 80% of your positions here.

Don't disappoint me, let the intelligent comments from you begin (at least for a change).

Another childish comments from someone who is supposed to be a father, na wah ooo.

If the US can veto anything concerning Israel why is this man complaining about veto power by the likes of China and Russia? Double standards at work here but we are used to it.

@Denex,

While you are preparing for your reply abeg include the following;

1. The chaos in Iraq today is caused by a lying president of the US, George Bush.

2. The double standard towards the nuclear issue in the middle east is making the acquisition of the technology attractive as it seems the only way to stop the US from dictating to nations is for those nations to acquire nuclear technology

I thought all the supporters of the US and UK disappeared after the movie at Glasgow was x rayed huh

@Afam

Are you bragging about afamite.com ?This thread isn't about flaunting our websites,its about brainstorming on how to get up a successful dot com start up in Nigeria,just like the rest of the world.
If what you concluded from my post on this thread amounts to bragging about a website then you really have a huge problem because I am sure that I made comments concerning the crux of the matter you raised on this thread but as usual you will rather focus on non issues.

Reference to the site was made to show that you do not need venture capital to start up a project because venture capitalists are business men, not gamblers.

Meanwhile, it seems that very soon I will cede ownership of the website www.afamite.com to the new owners so I decided to create another simpler personal website (under 3 days) where I can publish my thoughts without anyone setting the rules at www.afamnnaji.com.

Stick to the issues, increase your skills, hope for the best and trust God, the rest will be easy, bad mouthing will not achieve anything.

NB: If you are serious about brainstorming, then you should be able to tell us what you have done and how it can be improved upon. Without real work on ground you may not achieve what you claim you want to achieve because I have heard a lot of people talking about building another yahoo or google when in the real sense they do not know how to write a single line of code neither do have have any meaningful plan to achieve what they claim they want to achieve.
PoliticsRe: Terrorism: Made In USA by Afam(m): 2:49pm On Jul 30, 2007
The funny thing is that all well meaning people on planet earth (including some good Americans) agree that the US under its present administration is a huge embrassment and is responsible for the increasing hatred being shown towards the US yet we have Nigerians who will sometimes foolishly support every action of the US even when these actions are terrible.

I ask again, are some of these Nigerians living in the US satying there on the condition that they must support the actions of the US whether right or wrong?

Good enough, the comedy at Glasgow has shamed those that were ready to die while supporting the British authorities on the "stage managed explosions"

Name callings directed at Oprah based on what she was alleged to have said is in order.

Unless she did not say these things I find it supremely hard to see reason with people that are defending her.

Even if some Nigerians are corrupt it does not make every Nigerian corrupt and this is a fact.

Only stupi, lazy and greedy people fall for scam, abi no be the same letter wey we dey see for our emails everyday?

Meanwhile, the sheer number of scam emails come from the West where run many small scale fraud based businesses. it's just that Nigerians run large scale ones in terms of the financial angle.

@texxaspette,

You once accused people of attacking her even when your search online did not produce anything concerning the interview. You later came back (probably after seeing the story) to claim that at the end of the interview she said not all Nigerians are 419. So, can you tell us what she said in its entirety?
BusinessRe: Buhahahaha. Jimoh Refutes Dangote Bilionaire Claims. Says No Billionaire In Nig by Afam(m): 10:55am On Jul 30, 2007
I tire for people ooo. Jimoh is 100% correct, you don't owe banks N100B and claim that you are worth N120B simply because you have some N20B somewhere and this is common sense.

That is why I claim that the US is a poor country. It is indebted to the tune of $7Trillion as at 3 years ago and still borrowing.

Nigeria, with all the magomago in our foreign debt never owed more than $30B.

If I don't owe a bank N1 then I am richer than my friend that is owing a bank N5. Mathematics and economics can't be simpler than this.

Have we not seen banks seize properties of so called rich men when they die and the debt can't be settled?

WebmastersRe: Abeg, Who Are These People Designing Websites For 4k? by Afam(m): 8:45am On Jul 30, 2007
POINT:
all this talk on here, yet no one has the balls to post a something that is worth 4k. As usual, everyone is just talking
With N4k I can design www.talkofnaija.com (under 24 hrs) because I have a copy of joomla on my machine.

This idea of leaving out the main issue and looking for people that have balls to do this and that or calling people kids even when they do not show us top quality websites that they designed for say N1M is getting out of hand.

Can someone design a website for N4K? Yes. Can someone do same for N1M? Yes. Can someone do it for free or have the client buy free lunch? Yes.

Is there a standard or are we becoming authorities within our own rights and wishing that what we prefer become the standard that others must follow?

This is a huge problem in Nigeria, too much talk, too much boasting and bragging yet very little to show for all the talk.
WebmastersRe: Abeg, Who Are These People Designing Websites For 4k? by Afam(m): 7:01pm On Jul 28, 2007
@tundewoods,

You don't have any right to label people kids because they design websites for N4k and that is my point.

One man's meat is another man's poison and you must realize that.

You prefer to do it for free or have the client buy you lunch.

I prefer to do it for N4k than do it for free or get the client to buy me lunch because while you are busy eating free lunch I can make N1M if I designed the N4k website for say 250 people.

And someone making N1M in a month will run a more successful business than someone who is eating free lunch for the same job.
BusinessRe: Venture Capital Funding For Dotcom Startups In Nigeria? by Afam(m): 5:13pm On Jul 28, 2007
Interesting post.

What makes a website popular and busy? What can I do on this website that I cannot do on other websites? Why must I come back to this website after visiting it today? Can I accomplish the tasks I have come here to accomplish without spending a lot of time?

These are some of the questions web developers have to honestly ask themselves even before they start coding. The idea of build first and they will come is becoming old fashioned.

I do not think in the real sense that one needs a venture capital for a website to do well. Put differently, venture capitalists will come your way if they see a huge promise in what you are doing.

www.afamite.com was developed from scratch about 2 months ago as a pet project with only spare time allocated to the project.

Less than 1 month after uploading the website I have 2 people from UK that have been in discussion as regards buying it off and this has even stalled any additions I would have implemented like the online payment facility, free website feature for both personal and business use etc.

My point is that we have a lot of web developers that have created small worlds for themselves and they believe they have seen it all. A lot of web developers spend more time and energy trying to run others down or try to talk big.

While I agree that we have lots of talents in the web industry in Nigeria it is equally important that web developers must learn to accept responsibilities of what they know and what they don't know.

Honestly i promised myself that i wouldn't post a reply to this thread but instead just sit back and enjoy everybit of all you guys reply but to bad i'm breaking my promise by posting a reply.

Now,regarding the kids designing websites for 4K

I guess they are just freelancers that still live under their parents with little or no responsibilities,You use Mom and Dads computer at home and rush to a cafe to upload after purchasing 1 hour ticket for 100 - 150 naira.you have made yourself a profit of propably N3,500 after tax.
What makes you think that those designing N4k websites are kids? As a grown man can you tell us what you consider ideal as regards pricing for websites?

Stick to the issue and explain why it cannot be done.

tundewoods:
My point is these kids have no overheads so they charge what pleases them at our own expense.I run a web firm in lagos and believe you me that is all i do in my firm.I run on Gen everyday due to epileptic power supply and have a Secetary and an in house designer. I also have to pay an annual rent of close to 300K per year. Considering all these overheads as a professional you dare not cheapen yourself with such low budget prices,its simply impossible.
I equally run a web firm and an alternative energy firm in Lagos and these are the 2 businesses I run. That you spend a lot on generator is your own headache because while people are looking for ways to reduce the cost of doing business you are here justifying your own high cost of doing business.

I do not have a generator in my office (on Allen Avenue) and this is getting close to 3 years now. I use inverter backup in my office and even at home. We have built and installed these backup systems for homes and offices. (www.justalternativepower.com)

tundewoods:
Lastly i doubt if anny of these kids have any CIW certifications.
Sorry, the issue of certificates is over rated in the web industry, even banks and other big organizations are realizing this today. The quality of work (which usually comes from experience) is far more important than the CIW certifications you are bragging about.

In reality, websites can be designed for just N4k or even less if the designer wants to do so.

Presently, I have just finished developing a personal website that is highly customizable for Nigerians who may want to have personal websites to air their views, tell the world about themselves with an integrated photo gallery.

Just uploaded the site to a live server today so you can take a look at it at www.afamnnaji.com.

Now, I can effortlessly ask for N2,000.00, N10,000.00, N50,000.00 for each installation with the option of the users getting their own hosting plans from anywhere.

That is a job that took less than 3 days to setup and thousands if not millions can own their personal websites from this base site.

So, stop insulting people because they can do things you cannot do at the price you think is best for you.

Google is a free site and I am sure you would call the owners kids if they told you they want to offer free services.

You will gain the respect of clients if you provide quality websites and regardless of what other people are charging if you are good in web design people will come to you, period.

I don't think that Ojukwu was fighting a war into democracy, i believe that he would have been a detector worse than Indi Amin or Saddam Hussein had he succeeded in a war that he sponsored.
Why don't you ask people to explain things you don't understand?

What has democracy got to do with the issues on ground? Well, if incoherent and senseless posts like these are all those that are bent on spreading falsehood and hatred have then one can go to bed rest assured that the lies will remain lies.

Laudate, it seems that you enjoy reading anything against the Igbos even though you spearhead same but will quickly jump to defend a statement targeting the Niger delta while opposing most comments by some Igbo people here. Make your stand clear and be bold about it. Hiding or masking real hatred with remarks and comments isn't the best in my opinion.

this is the "reality" in a Nigerian where corruption is entrenched. You cannot use corruption to fight corruption. In advanced countries you are jailed if found guilty of corruption no matter whether you are the father of the president or not.
Advanced countries? Libby was sentenced to jail but Bush struck it off, not so?

davidylan:
What you are saying in essence is that corruption is right ONLY if commited by my enemies. What is the difference between your stand and the present charade masquerading as a fight against corruption?
Nope, that is not what I am saying. The present charade (as you cal it) is better than all previous charade(s?) we have seen in Nigeria and it is a welcome development.

Selective fight against corruption is 100% better than no fight at all.
PoliticsRe: A Sweet Wind Of Change Is Blowing In Nigeria! by Afam(m): 5:09pm On Jul 23, 2007
A country where its citizens prefer to focus on the side corrupt politicians are when they are caught rather than the fact that these guys are corrupt is in a big problem.

Political opponents or not, are those arrested innocent of the crimes they are being charged with. This is the most important question revolving around their arrests.

Let us stop diverting attention from the core issues.

Meanwhile, I will not arrest and lock up my relations and close friends when I have real or perceived enemies that have committed the same offense with my relations and close friends. This is the reality so I wonder why people keep expressing surprise that OBJ has not locked up all his children and friends.

@my2cents,

For me if one is good he/she will get good jobs just like my people say "good product no dey hide".

@gbolio4,

What's your point? N4k website may make you sick but there are companies that make millions every month buy allowing people own websites for far less.

This idea of playing big don't make sense to me. I don't see anyone asking you to design for N4k so leave those that feel comfortable to do so.

In anycase, a N4k website may even be better than a N120k website so the cost is not the ultimate factor in web development.

www.afamite.com did not cost me a single naira to develop.

It is impossible to make such categorical statements when you are uninformed. Do you know that hybrid cars an electric cars are now more common in the US? Infact you can now get a hybrid car from a car dealer here in my tiny town.

If you are refering to the oil in Alaska, that is purely an environmental issue. Its funny that people talk of the "dynamics of getting crude from the ground and refining it" as if the Americans were not the pioneers of the technology we so glibly talk about. Who gets the crude from Nigerian soil? the NNPC? Can we even refine 10litres of crude oil?
When you want to learn anything ask. Making wrong statements or assumptions is not the same thing as asking a question. Who is talking about Alaska?
PoliticsRe: Us Senate Declare Opec Illegal by Afam(m): 6:24pm On Jul 19, 2007
There is one fact we all must learn to live with, the US cannot afford not to buy crude oil from OPEC unless it wants to be in a very serious mess.

It is clear that those who keep talking about oil reserves in the US do not understand the dynamics of getting the crude from the ground and refining it.

If the US had any real options it would have taken them long time ago. Unless the option of invading countries for their crude oil is still attractive to them they have very very limited options in the real sense, make we leave grammar for the thing.

And you are surprised that a lot of Igbos are defending the Igbos, well with your own hands you wrote that the Igbos were proud because a lot of them were brilliant and doing well then as if that is enough excuse for the hatred you are displaying.

Facts don't lie and many have been presented here. Purge yourself of the hatred and do something positive with your life.

I have been thinking more about this. Y wdnt he want to quit when there are those of us back there who are charging N4K to code a website? Y wdnt he quit when the same people who wouldn't give him a discount to buy their product are haggling him to death because he wants to charge them a meagre N70K? I mean, where is the money/pride in the business?

I predict that more and more of this will follow as the web dev field is cheapened. Again, let us have pride in our work!
I beg to disagree with this notion that cheap prices affect the "best web developers" because there is a price for every product and no one is being forced to patronize a service provider.

If N4,000.00 is enough for you to design a good website then go ahead, if N1M is what makes you cool why not, go ahead.

We have brand new cars for just N1.3M just as we have others from N12M yet those that sell the expensive cars have not closed shop because some car manufacturers are charging N1.3M.

If I see a web developer that is ready to collect even N2,000.00 for a good website I will pay the person and have my website, simple.
