NRI PRIEST: There isn't much development in all those little town Op listed like Abraka which is just a site for Delta state university and few tarred roads and fillinng stattion. Infact Umuoji is more developed than Ogwashi,Ibusa and Abraka. The only fully developed towns in Delta are Asaba and Warri. The rest are just emerging towns. However,in Anambra Nkpor,Obosi and Oba has developed on there own with huge tax yielding investments. Hence, they can't be lumped into Onitsha. And for your own safety never you dare reffer to these towns as greater Onitsha because their boy fit hang you oooo! Ekwusikwaa m'.That a town is part of greater Onitsha doesn't necessarily mean that it's part of Onitsha. In America, some cities are said to be part the greater part of a another city but they have their own mayor and are independent in a way. |
django1: Ibadan 7in1Ibadan is a conglomeration of towns. Normally it should be a state and not a city. |
idumuose: @ OP what of Modakeke?Isn't modakeke in Ife? |
NRI PRIEST: Then Ogwashi-Ukwu and Ibusa should be added to greater Asaba. It's the development between the towns that determines whether or not they'll become part of another town. What you have between Asaba and Ogwashi-ukwu and Ibusa are bushes. Asaba has not even fully developed let alone swallowing another town. It's a different case for Onitsha. |
NRI PRIEST: Omanbala towns/citiesShouldn't Oba and Nkpor be in greater Onitsha? |
doc sholz: There are no cities in Nigeria only glorified villages even lagos is majorly a slumThis is not a thread to prove a point. Of course no NIgerian city can be comparable to NYC, London, Tokyo or Honk Kong but we sure have towns/cities. |
Enugu state is more or less a one-city state but we have other developing towns as well. So, ill say Enugu and Nsukka(college town) Delta state along with Anambra, Imo, Ogun and of course Lagos probably have the highest number of cities/towns in a single state. |
This Lorreta lady makwara mma nwanyi. Where was i all this while ![]() This wedding has to be the most beautiful i've seen done by a Nairalander. |
I actually think Mikel is going to win it. There's a reason why the award is being hosted in Nigeria. And i think Mikel will deserve the award if he wins. he may not be a better player than Yaya Toure but one cannot deny the fact that the teams he played for(Super Eagles and Chelsea) won trophies and he was an instrument. |
Christians are funny sha. When Muslim convert to Christianity, they have seen the light but when it's the other way around, they're doing it to make ends meet. |
kettykin: Actually it is not yet a silicon valley or Alley but it could be one in the making , this is more like Home-shoring their respective Research and development units or home-shoring their programming/Design units to Owerri to boost Owerri as the Silicon Valley, a check reveal that Nigeria does not really have a defined city for that which could be making the growth of the IT industry stunted where as India's IT industry growth happens to be one of the fastest in the worldImo can become an IT hub whether or not those who own those IT establishments are from Imo. It's not for those guys to do but for the government to put in measures to make it attractive for those companies. |
How do the fact that majority of people who own IT firms in Nigeria come from Imo make Imo the Sillicon valley of Nigeria. Are their IT companies headquartered or even have a branch in Imo? Are those who own companies in Sillicon Valley from Sillicon Valey? We have to stop deceiving ourselves in a consoling manner. |
Sweetlemon: It will help a lot. How will a normal right thinking man stab or victimize a man simply because of tribe bearing in mind that his own mother or father is from the same tribe? If he does then it will most likely be for another reason. You didn't get my post. If Afam, as an I(gbo guy marries an Ibibio girl from Akwa Ibom state. I may not be tribalistic to Ibibio people. But what happens to Yoruba, Hausa, Ijaw, Fulani people? Let me use you as an example. I've noticed your anti-Igbo sentiments especially when Igbos and Yorubas are going against each other in this froum and ni noticed that you're Efik/Ibibio. So, it could mean one thing: that you're married or getting married or getting married to a Yoruba person and as such not tribalistic towards them but what happens to other Nigerians(Igbos, Ijaws, Orhobos, hausas etc). |
Sweetlemon: Of course there will still be some bad ones, but if more people inter-marry, it will definitely reduce tribalism. It will be very minimal. How does an Igbo person marrying a Yoruba person stop him from still being tribalistic to an Hausa person for example. |
ketoprofen: Every place is not far from ur villageMy village is in the center of the world On a more serious note, Atakwu is a plac ein Akegbe which is one of the kingdoms in Awkunanaw. |
babe_online: Inter tribal marriage is much better than NYSC but the best option is to enact a law that is completely intolerant of tribalism.I don't see how this is possible. Besides, it's going to be abused and innocent people are going to be punished. How will the authorities prove that someone made a tribalistic comment? I only agree that laws that promote togetherness should be passed. |
ketoprofen: in ur own thoughts, which is easier in 2015?Of course GEJ is easier cos he's the incumbent but he's making it seem that since Jonathan is from the old eastern region, he's more or less one of us. |
Area-Fada:When i said America was a standard, i wasn't referring to their ethnic or racial composition but about their constitution that encourages equality and peaceful co-existence. |
fr3do: Our disunity doesn't hinder development as much as corruption does.Disunity is more of a problem than corruption imo. A country can't claim to be a nation if there's gargantuan in-fighting. |
Ikengawo: It would be nice to have more programs like NYSC. If our unity schools weren't a joke this would have been a good tool for unity.I don't see how schemes such as NYSC and related schemes foster unity. It's effect are at best minimal. |
Adadio: I agree with you to a large extent but what laws should be enacted?Do you mean a total overhaul of the 1999 Constiution,or doWe have to take a cue from America. They're the perfect example of unity. We have to make away with this "State of origin" thingy and other artifacts that are divisive in nature. |
Nightshift: My visit to the area which extends to Akuke beach a few years ago opened my eyes to the great nature's gift to my folks. I marveled at the beauty of the area. The area is a breathtaking beauty to behold.I've never been there but i want to believe it's not that different from what we have in Amaechi cos it's the same body of water that extends to Akegbe-ugwu and other parts of Nigeria but i heard Akuke looks more like a beach than what we have in Amaechi. |
Ezeife comes across as someone who understands Nigerian politics. He has captured the idiosyncratic disposition in a succinct manner. Though i disagree with his penchant of always downplaying Igbos fighting for themselves as far as politics in Nigeria is concerned. Enough of always support other candidates. |
I don't think NYSC has achieved the purpose it was created for. Tribalism seems to be on the increase and even those that were sent to serve in other parts of the country only come back with the negatives and spread it which generated more hate...As for inter-tribal marriage, i don't see how that will work. As much as people that are in inter-tribal marriages tend to be less tribalistic but it's usually towards to the ethnic group pf their spouse. What about the over 200 other ethnic groups? Apart from that, are people going to be forced to marry from outside their tribe in the name of unity? I think the best bet is just to enact laws aimed at fostering unity among Nigerians. The laws we have in Nigeria are very divisive in nature. |
Area-Fada:This is the reason why i laugh when some people say that Pidgin should be made our official language because it can be understood by everyone. I thought so some years ago, atleast for Southern Nigeria until i met several Yoruba people that couldn't converse in pidgin let alone English. It's also evident in some Igbos who live in Igboland and much more common in the North. That's why it's easier for someone to learn Hausa when living in the north or Yoruba when leaving in the west especially states other than Lagos. It's not the same for some states in the South-South because the number of ethnicities in those places are numerous, so people would rather speak pidgin and as you alluded, even old women can speak. it has become more like a lingua franca in those parts. |
eaglechild: @joeluvIt's a stone throw as Atakwu is in Akegbe-ugwu, Awkunanaw, not quite far from my village. |
eluquenson: The already know how to get real facts that we citizens doesn't know exist. We can't fault them, we just need to accept. You need to accept it cos you're ignorant not me. |
5.00GP:O boy we don hear now. How many times you go talk abi you wan release album on top am? |
tintingz: I don't know about igbo spoken in xmen I think it was in red sunIgbo was spoken in Xmen, Bruce Almighty, Rising of the sun etc. |
eluquenson: SharaapDid wikipedia conduct a census for Nigeria and when? |
@Pukah You're turning into a troll. You know close to nada about Enugu. Don't just go to google and dig up an article because some people will always have something bad to say about someone no matter how good that person is. if this is how you intend to advertise APC to Enugu peeps then it's an epic fail cos Enugu has remained the most stable state since the days of Nnamani. Sullivan Chime has done creditably well and most Enugu peeps can confirm that fact. |
