dademola: Cleverley's mediocrity is gradually being pinned on rooney's head. Now i understand elampiro's frustration!ololololo!!! u see as i dey take style dodge the argument? coogar tink say i be elampiro? if him like make e type rooney a million times i no go bite ![]() |
dademola: like afrodoc sed, u're kinda preaching to d choir!! We all knw d worst players wld still hav thier "moments of genius"!! There wld be gifs of titus bramble on d internet, that can almost persuade a barca scout dt he has finally seen a long term replacement for puyol!now that is one true thing |
coogar: wigan standard & yet maradonaesque passing.....except that these same players make the killer pass later in the sequence of passes. they "recirculate" the ball until THEY SEE a good opening then they make the slide rule key pass. however in tomC's case when the ball is recirculated to him he just keeps on making the same safe passes all day, its either he can't see the opening or he lacks the ability to make the pass through the opening or he lacks the confidence. for the sake of Man Utd i hope its just a matter of confidence |

coogar: wigan standard & yet maradonaesque passing.....Bros in a way u r preaching to the choir. I was a firm believer in Cleverley until sometime last season. He has the potential to b good (not great) but he has stagnated in his development lately. That is why i wanted someone like Modric,Fabregas to come in at the start of the season and give him some real competition and time on the bench, but the wise men of old trafford thot fellaini was d man. I am not asking us to sell him, there is something to b said for youth team grads making it into the senior team. However i would buy a real world class partner for Carrick and Cleverley would be a really good squad player for us for now. When Carrick's time is up we would then revisit the issue |
And another issue you might find hard to get from stats is quality of the passes, not just the quantity of forward or back ward passes. For example when i watched Scholes (at his peak) play i never bothered about the number of sideways or backward passes he made in a match because i knew he was just setting things up to have the opportunity to make a better pass 20-30 seconds down the line ( as they say in basketball you give up a good shot to have a great shot). However in Cleverley's case it seems like passing the ball sideways is the end target itself rather than a means to an end. He rarely ventures forward, he rarely makes up for his dozens of sideways and backward passes by giving us assists or at least key passes in the quantity we need. because of his timidity going forward and the i.diocy of most of our wide men there is too much pressure on the no 10 to create chances. |
coogar: says the fans that argue against facts & sticks to the popular belief. you see what you want to see - however, what you see is a mirage or an illusion. cleverley passes the ball forward whether you agree or not. 1) I wont be drawn into your Rooney issue, thats you and elampiro's nollywood movie, watch out for part 4 ![]() 2) if you are comparing cleverley to a geriatric scholes who was clearly past it, i agree with you i would take cleverley over scholes, redondo or ray wilkins over the last 2 seasons ![]() 3) the truth is we both know carrick is better than cleverley, the point is carrick should have a more proactive partner not cleverley. cleverley would be a really good squad player to have for now. P.S you didnt think of different formations in those teams when u were hyping cleverley's passing. the fact remains in those clubs very cautious passers are usually paired with someone who is more willing to play more expansive football and take a few more risks passing. i have seen cleverley too many times pass up a glaring opportunity for a through pass just to feed the ball wide to a full back, killing moves in utero! |
coogar: and it didn't occur to you this is one of the reasons mikel won every title in england & in europe and song won nothing for arsenal in england? should a defensive midfielder be supplying assists when his team is conceding 49 league goals in a season? biko, what's the priority??Understanding the dynamics of the game it would be more logical to compare cleverley's stats to fellow midfielders who play in and around the same area he plays in, not comparing him to strikers and defenders and goal keepers. how many times in a game does de gea pass the ball backwards? compare apples with apples and oranges with oranges. The midfielders there are Cleverley,Scholes and Carrick. Cleverley has the highest percentage of backward passes amongst the midfielders at a whopping 15% compared to just 8% for both Carrick and Scholes Carrick had 37% of his passes going forward compared to a paltry 23% by Cleverley. Now this is the problem. Carrick despite his lack of pace is a pretty good screen in front of the defence, however Carrick should not be paired with a midfielder who is even less attack minded than Carrick as these your stats show. The comparisons you make are not quite accurate as Busquets at Barca has a more attack minded Xavi as partner, Mikel had Lampard,Ramires etc, Alonso had Gerrard. The summary in my view is Cleverley is too timid offensively to be Carrick's partner. |
dademola: a playa dt passes sideways and backwards has "vision"??hahahahaha! ololololo!! Vision definition..........the ability to think about or plan the future with imagination or wisdom Vision synonyms........CREATIVITY,FORESIGHT,INVENTIVENESS,PENETRATION Can anybody say that TomC has exhibited these qualities and not bleed from the mouth? |
