dayokanu: Maybe when you look at the different component you would see that Boateng bosses Kompany in key aspect of a defenders game which include tackle, clearances

What brought down Boatengs total was his professional foul red card vs City where he got a 5.8. The foul which every coach would laud him for

Fact is in the EPl with Kompany Man City rarely have a clean sheet which is an indictment on him
Boateng makes more tackles and commits more fouls than Kompany cos he is not smart enough to position himself properly.

Kompany's superior intelligence and positioning is evident from his superior stats in interceptions and offsides won

Rooney did very well today and was crucial to our control of the midfield, however needs to improve his short passing....especially through passes.

The guy's stubborn and hard headed attitude finished him. I have never seen a more obstinate manager when it comes to tactics and team selection.

1) playing a congested style of play already he then persisted in playing a right footed left back behind a right footed left winger so they could further congest the midfield and paralyze their own wide areas.

2) persisting with an out of sorts soldado when he had the option of giving defoe a run in the EPL or even switching to a 2 man attack for certain matches.

3) playing lots of brawn but little creativity in midfield with dembele, sando, paulinho. with eriksen out he could have tried sigurdsson, lamela or even holtby more in the position behind the striker.

nitrogen: Elamps baba, Rooney's ass licker, your god is nothing but zero upfront, okay, let's do it this way: I bet Rooney will be our main striker in our next match (I pray it isn't that way sha), and believe me, we will loose the game or play a draw, watch out o!

Rooney will be cool if he plays on the left wing or drops deep, he should accept the fact that VP is a far better prolific striker than he is, it's better he fvcks off the guy's back cos he is nothing but a sham upfront. Let him drop deep, and enjoy himself, he can never be a VP lailai, abeg!

NB: His level of importance is the same as that of other players in the squad, he isn't special, you both should get that into your skull.

Peace!

GustavoFring: I strongly disagree.

Skillful players are not adequately protected by the referees.

I remember CR7 complained about this as well.

If you've played Sunday League or even a regular pick up game here in the UK, you'll know that the dribblers are targets for kicks and crunching tackles.

That's standard.

Skillful players have to earn a living using their legs and they need to protect their careers from the Lee Cattermoles and Ryan Shawcrosses of this world.....By any means possible.
I also strongly disagree.I seriously doubt that the pick up games in the UK are more vicious than some of the "jeun jeun" games we played back in Nigeria. If u also played in some areas of the North u would have seen crunching tackles hailed and fractures occurring regularly. I am talking about those games with no refs and the only foul recognized is a handball.

Having said all that the emphasis should be on the refs being adequately equipped to carry out their jobs properly especially in punishing bad tackles and recklessness. Encouraging players to dive is a slippery slope and it is not the correct way to go.

Most of this diving takes place when there is little or no contact. These recalcitrant cheats are in no way or form avoiding bad tackles or protecting themselves they, they are just looking for easy penalties and other ways to hoodwink the officials.
If homo sapiens could play for 15-20 years in the days of Chopper Harris, Billy Bremner,Norman Hunter and co what stops them from playing good football these days.

Most of this diving is just pure dishonesty, how many of Suarez and Young's dives have been for bad tackles? Referees already punish tackling to the point that tackling is now an endangered skill in football. So there is no need to flop all over the place all in the name of protecting yourself.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by afrodoc(m): 3:45am On Dec 13, 2013
I did not watch the match but that did look like a dive to me not a penalty AND the sending off was not harsh.
Diving has to be eradicated from this game and there should be a zero tolerance policy. Anybody here who has ever played competitive football at any level would be irritated by the ease with which these "giripa" men fall to the ground, its irritating.
Continue giving red cards to Suarez, Ashley Young and their followers......sooner or later they will start staying on their feet.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by afrodoc(m): 8:21am On Dec 12, 2013
English league has 3 teams with multiple European Cups/UCL and 12 in total

Serie A has 3 teams with multiple titles and i believe 11 in total

La Liga has 2 teams with multiple titles and 13 in total

The day your league has more than 1 multiple winner and your title count clocks double digits instead of the mere 7 it is now you will be invited to dine at the big boy's table cheesy

For the FIRST TIME EVER all 4 Bundesliga teams made it to the knock out stages, that is pure water to EPL teams and even La Liga and Serie A

The Bundesliga is an up and coming league but not at par with the EPL
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by afrodoc(m): 2:35am On Dec 12, 2013
It is good how you keep going back to to the season that Bayern and Dortmund had LAST SEASON.
Dortmund is already sliding this season, it takes more than one season for us to know they are here to stay.

WHAT ABOUT THE OTHER TEAMS IN THE LEAGUE?

The performances of the Bundesliga and the Dutch league in the European Cup/UCL are almost identical, it is normal to classify them below the historically top level performers like EPL, La Liga and Serie A. cheesy

Or with score of 6-2 in matches and 21-8 in goals ( not to forget the Mess executed on Bayer) do u think the Bundesliga presently has more depth in quality than the EPL? smiley
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by afrodoc(m): 1:50am On Dec 12, 2013
What people are saying DK and patiently trying to explain to you is that although Bayern Munich have a great team and Borussia Dortmund have a good team too the Bundesliga as a whole has been historically AVERAGE (check the post above this one) and at present it is still AVERAGE ( check 2 posts above).

Once again the criticism is not about Bayern or Dortmund but when one team is great and a second team is very good but the other SIXTEEN teams are rubbish one can come to no other conclusion but that the league is pretty FECAL to say the least.

I can't think of any EPL team that my dear Man Utd as presently constituted under Gollum "the clueless" could have walloped 5-0 in such a comprehensive manner, in their home ground to boot......and that team is second in your highly esteemed league?
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by afrodoc(m): 1:47am On Dec 12, 2013
afrodoc: If you want to look at it historically more teams from England have won the European Cup/UCL than German teams. I think the score is 12 to 7 titles and 5 to 3 different clubs both in favour of EPL.

If you want to check more recently e.g last 10yrs 3 different EPL teams Man Utd, Chelsea and Liverpool have all had MULTIPLE appearances in the final with each winning it once. Last 10 years the score is 3 titles to 1 in favour of the EPL with and its 3 DIFFERENT CLUBS ( showing you the depth)

Even Arsenal our little brother cheesy has been to the final.

Right now Bayern Munich is obviously the best team in Europe but the German league lacks depth in quality

which there was an English team.

Matches won by German teams: 2

Goals scored by English teams: 21

coogar: i can bet all of them came against leverkusen.

it doesn't matter one jot.....he's a flat track bully. packing 5 assists out of 6 against one hapless team in germany & anonymous against a determined everton side.

compare rooney's performance to the other forwards drawing £250k per week from their club's coffers - ronaldo, messi, ibrahimovic then we can have a debate.

if you don't realise rooney's performance is disproportionate to his wages at this stage then there's no point debating even further.

the only question you should ask yourself - is rooney doing enough for the amount of money he gets?
Is Rooney the only person getting paid? Why are you fixated on his 250k? Maybe you should cast your salary screening net a bit wider.

Have you compared how much Ashley Young and Nani get compared to Adam Llallana? Or how much Cleverley and Anderson get paid compared to Ross Barkley?
Have you compared what Moyes is getting paid compared to Pochettino or Martinez?

Rooney leads the team in most of the attacking stats that really matter and in overall player rating.

He is 4th in the EPL in goals scored, 3rd in assists and 7th in overall player rating ( the only Man Utd player in the top 20) meaning only 6 players in the whole league have had better seasons so far.

So how can it be that of all the players in the team it is the only player that is at the top of most of the performance indices that you blame.
What about the other millionaires collecting 70k,80k per week and stinking up the place like skunks?
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by afrodoc(m): 2:38am On Dec 10, 2013
Wayne Rooney is being paid 250k per week, thats true but are the other guys in the team working for free? They should chip in!

Rooney in the EPL leads the team in the following

1) Goals..............8

2) Assists............5

3) Key Passes....2.2 per game

4) Player Rating...7.62

And he is near the top in the whole league for these stats.

If one is to criticize any player at United for not performing or if we are looking for one player to blame i don't think it should be Rooney
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by afrodoc(m): 8:50am On Dec 09, 2013

LOL i see unlike previous matches nobody blamed the man in the hole for the defeat this time around. There is too much beef on this thread.
RVP is a better finisher than Rooney, Rooney is better than him in the hole.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by afrodoc(m): 8:37am On Dec 09, 2013
Oghos1: they are too similar
I'd take pjanic from roma instead in addition to hererra
play them in a double pivot with strootman to the left and herrera to the the right.
the pjanic that i know can not play in central midfield for us, he would just be another player to share the playmaking position with rooney and kagawa. AND that we dont need.
we need strength and quality in defensive/central midfield and i think strootman and herrera could give us that, especially strootman who i rate highly.
if we have a solid midfield you will see our attacking players blossom. most of our problems both defensively and in attack stem from our inability to dictate play and control possession in midfield
