I wish I had your confidence. IMO it is still 50/50.

You can say that we are more likely to play better in the 2nd leg but as long as we have Ika of Africa in goal (who can balance out our good play with howlers) we are not any more likely to go through o.

Was enjoying the beta squad/amp charity match until these foolish fans invaded the pitch and spoiled the game. Why not wait till the game is over before you run in like loose dogs.

Yeah, the fans should have behaved better. I think they were emboldened to invade when the players themselves turned it into WWE and started wrestling and kicking the assistant referee's flag.

Any really good coach in market now?lf there is can you enlighten me.
There are good coaches available but maybe no obvious outstanding one. It is the job of the technical team to do their due diligence and appoint a suitable manager, if they decide they do not want ETH's services anymore.

Barca just quietly appointed Flick, so one can still get a good manager if one wants.

I saw on Twitter that Mikel is claiming that Drogba and him were the reasons Nigerians started supporting Chelsea

Who will say they started supporting Chelsea because of Mikel who was on the bench most of the time

If you planned to watch Chelsea because of Mikel then you won't see him at all

Truth is Roman purchase blew up Chelsea fanbase in Nigeria then Mourinho

I'll say Kanu moved more Nigerians to a football club (Arsenal) than anyone

One of my childhood friends who used to support Chelsea in the mid 90s switched to Arsenal when Kanu moved
There was an anti-United lobby in Nigeria that gravitated initially towards Chelsea because of Cele and then more towards Arsenal because of Kanu.

When Arsenal proved incapable of dethroning United, they moved on to Chelsea and i think you are correct in saying it was mainly due to the Roman Revolution. Abramovic came in swinging and showed everybody that he meant business and that was music to the anti-United lobby.
It did help though that a Nigerian joined Chelsea at about the same time, and it was our best young talent as well.

Lol no way in hell we'd have tried an high line with Maguire, Evans and co. Our matches would be pure comedy.

As for for second point, Martinez is already used to playing an high line. We were always going to get a CB that can also play it comfortable. So the transition would have been easy.
Our matches were pure comedy with the donut midfield anyway. I understand starting out with the low defensive line because Varane and Martinez were out but persisting with it despite our obvious struggles was folly IMO.

The proper thing to do was to try to play a higher line (does not have to be ultra-high like Spurs or Villa) and play the way the team is meant to play in the long term. Playing a high line defense or low line defense impacts how the whole team plays and not just the defenders, so you can't use Martinez experience playing it to justify not exposing the whole team to it.

Then we have to factor in the fact that even in the games Varane played we still played the donut midfield.

I did a little digging and it seems he’s a DM. Saw a few clips but I’m not sure about how good he is. If MUTv shows more U21 matches we could’ve seen him more.
Yeah he is a CDM. Completely CDM and not a hybrid like Mainoo, Gore, Oyedele.

He is already 20 and older than those 3 so his window to make it here is very narrow indeed. I have seen a few games, and he has been decent without being a standout performer. He is strong and understands his position but i don't think he is very mobile or expansive on the ball.

Like you said, the tape on him is very brief.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by afrodoc(m): 12:11pm On May 26, 2024
Yeah i know him. CDM. He joined our reserves from Brighton two years ago. Since they rarely show reserve games it is difficult to assess them.

I saw the clip of ten Hag giving him the Mainoo treatment but i am not sure how significant the gesture is. Time will tell but he is not an obvious one to look out for according to my algorithm.

cc Leyqute.

For Casemiro, ETH might look at the academy. What are the chances of Savage or even Mainoo stepping up?

Varane is always an injury away so that's a concern. I reckon we will sign another CB.

In the attack, I think Amadd will deputize for Antony while Sancho will deputize for Rashford. If Martial leaves and we sign Hojlund, we might need another striker if not Rashford will be overworked because he'd be our starting LWF and the only option up front whenever Hojlund or whoever is signed is out injured or suspended.
To be honest apart from the fact that Charlie Savage has one of the best range of passing in the club with that his wand of a left foot I don’t think he will make it here. He is quite slow and not really physically strong. I don’t think he has the defensive nous to be a solo CDM and I am not sure he has the engine to be a CM.

Mainoo is the X-factor. Is he a CDM or a CM? What level of progress has he made on her the past few months. For him though I think a loan to get regular minutes would be better. ETH totally wasted his 2nd half of last season.

I also want ETH to give Max Oyedele a look during this preseason. See if there is anything there. He is the only natural solo CDM anywhere near the first team and he is as rugged as they come. Passing and touch needs work though.

I mean after signing Onana and a centre forward (Likely Hojlund) what other area of the team will you like to see us strengthen?
Toss up between CDM sub for Casemiro and CB sub for Varane. For CB we have Lindelof who can do a job and then Shaw as well. There is no decent sub for Casemiro in the squad at this time.

Who will link with who in your starting line up? Yekini and Osimhen will be occupying the same space

I will start the 2002 to 2007 version of Yakubu with Osimhen. Yak could go wide or drop deep in his younger years.
The younger Yekini of 84 to 89 could drop deep or go wide easily before he packed extra muscle and became the bulldozing striker of 89-94, and apart from maybe Martins he is also probably the fastest of this group.

Anyway the gap between Yekini and Osimhen and the rest is so wide that I have to start both of them. As they say great players find a way of playing well together. grin

If I have to drop one it will be Osimhen. The 89-94 Yekini that scored 30 goals in 5 years is the deadliest and most intimidating striker I have ever seen play for Nigeria. The fear factor can only be imagined.
