It was one thing to hype a player who has not played for us before and so has not been examined closely. However it is another thing to start hyping a player we have done Mene Mene Tekel Upharsin for. Amaka no good but no be everything wey spoil be him fault. Sensible people know this. |

elampiro: When I joined this forum in 2013, these were the first weakness I pointed out about DDG. It was so glaring then as it contrast against Van Der Sar's abilities. This led to my first argument here as Coogar went all out to say DDG was even better than VDS. With his argument power, and me being new in the forum, I gave up.
The hope was that DDG will improve his weaknesses as he grows old. But whoosa!!! His reflexes were so sharp that they appeared to compensate for his weak areas. I actually felt he put the defence under pressure, and then we had forgotten what VDS used to offer. Romero made aerial balls into our box look like simple as ABC. He took them with ease before the players contested for them. But Romero had no reflexes.
Late 2020, Mourinho said Man United made a mistake to increase DDG wages to £350k per week because it was at a time that all the big clubs had very good goalkeeper. Mourinho said that De Gea was not good at leaving his line, but was the best in the world at reflexes. Now how come that ardent fans still don't see his weakness but think it is the media.
DDG actually cost us the league in 2011. Cost us to exit the league cup in 2014 under Moyes when he let a ball slip under him in about the last kick of the game. His error rates increased recently even with Spain. But still a great goalkeeper, just that we need to find another keeper who is more suitable in the EPL where balls are flying across the six yard box You said it then. You and one of my guys offline were the first I can remember criticising him on those things. My friend was actually more worried about his lack of communication with his defenders which few people talked about then, but then again the guy has a season ticket with a seat behind the goal post at the East Stand of Old Trafford so maybe he noticed those things live. The aerial vulnerability remains and with the empty stands we the TV fans have now noticed the difference in communication between Henderson and DDG. In terms of reflexes DDG is Henderson’s master, but keeping is more than just reflexes. |

patrickmuf: I wish Henderson is in goal for the rest of the season. I'd like him to have that extended run just so we or better put, the club can make an informed decision... Exactly. And if it becomes obvious that DDG is better we can offload Henderson. What i am against is DDG's fans trying to emotionally blackmail the club not to even give Henderson a chance. |

patrickmuf: I know who that post was for and he got it...Expert17 would have criticized DDG for that goal...
It's not DDG fault that he is paid in excess of 375k weekly thus making it difficult to move him on...I know who you are targeting that missile to, God save Ed and friends...
In all, if Henderson outperforms DDG, then he should start but if he doesn't, THE DDG should continue in goal...I really don't know why most folks here think it is impossible to keep them both. Already, they have both played over 15 games and are both on course to play over 20 games. That's fair enough. How many situations can you name in which a club kept rotating 2 keepers year in year out. At the end of the day one of them has got to go and unless DDG is CLEARLY the better keeper i will go with the younger and cheaper keeper. Rotating keepers for long periods erodes the skills of both keepers. That is the reason why we can't keep both of them. |

CapitalCee: You said DDG has paid his dues and must not be hounded and must be treated honourably. You said that.
But TBH DDG has been treated honourably enough for commiting countless season defining errors for the past 3 years and still remained number 1 at a huge club like united, he is earning the best wages in the world, even though its obvious his quality is is no longer elite. So how else do you want him to be treated?
You want a stand to be named after him? Or a status biult for me? ; Someone actually said this yesterday. He said United should erect a statue of DDG at Old Trafford. |

patrickmuf: My point is that the criticism of DDG is now overblown just cos we have Henderson...
If Henderson performs better, he will take De Gea's place and that's justifiable but people shouldn't criticize De Gea and turn a blind eye when Henderson is involved...The criticism should be constructive though.
Cc: Expert17 and CapitalCee But Henderson was not at fault for the goal AT ALL. So why are you talking about turning a blind eye? DDG escaped greater criticism because of his reputation IMO. If he was playing for a decisive manager like Pep he would have been replaced 2 years ago. The reason we kept faith with him is similar to the reason we still have Dr Jones on our books. |

And what DDG did between 2012 and 2018 has no bearing whatsoever with who should be our keeper in 2021. In football you keep your job based on what you can do now and what you potentially can do in the future NOT what you did in the past.

Expert17: It is not every time a GK will come out abeg..... Henderson will come out 8 out of 10 DDG won't come out at all.
And you can't blame Hendo, Lindelof and AWB fvcked up. patrickmuf dey sometimes react emotionally. Na why he almost fight with people because of Martial issue until Martial fall him hand patapata. 2 wrongs do not make a right. Even if it is true that the press would have erroneously blamed DDG for that goal that does not mean we should now gang up against our own keeper (Henderson). Even a hybrid of Kahn and Buffon will concede from crosses from time to time. Replacing DDG does not reduce our risk of conceding from crosses to zero. |

patrickmuf: No dispute about De Gea's flaws but I'm dead certain DDG would've been blamed for not coming out for that ball...What's good for David should also be good for Dean... I am not so sure about that. DDG is not criticized EVERY time we concede a headed goal. In this particular situation Henderson actually did well to pull off a DDG-like save only for AWB and Lindelof to sleep on duty twice and allow the rebound. And i don't really get your point. Do you mean that because you believe that the press would have wrongfully criticized DDG for the goal we should now wrongfully criticize Henderson for the goal? Abi is that not what you are demanding? |

patrickmuf: English press will get their way as it concerns Henderson and De Gea but then, Henderson will be exposed to so much scrutiny that he'll likely bulge...
I am dead certain if it was De Gea in goal for that Brighton opener, we'd be treated to complains that he doesn't command his box well. Henderson is young, his time will come even as he has 0payed a fair share of games this season... It is not all about the English press. It is a fact that DDG does not command his box, does not communicate well with his defenders, and is not confident coming out for aerial balls. These are facts and not just journalists' opinions. |

timbros: I wanted to ask you of the Werner incident earlier but I see BlueMann and you have done that already.
My point is, that foul shouldn't be a card. Silva clearly went for the ball which he missed and didn't make contact with that tackle. The only contact was his trailing left leg. It was clearly unintentional. Why branding a yellow card?
Good thing you admitted the inconsistency of VAR. All i can say is that intent is not required for a yellow card to be brandished. The IFAB laws of the game are quite clear on this. The way Silva made the tackle was dangerous, and some might say reckless. There will not be an uproar outside Chelsea circles about the decision. If the roles were reversed you would have been wondering why the referee didn't card the offender. The more important issue is why should an experienced defender like Silva be making such rash decisions when he is already on a yellow card. Silva is a Jekyll and Hyde kind of a defender. Appears classy most times and then has these occasional brain farts that crop up at inopportune times. Reminds me a little of Joseph Yobo for the Super Eagles. |

raumdeuter: Check Burnleys first goal vs Southampton today
Contact from KwP came after the ball has been released I don't even understand timbros' argument. Contact after the ball has been released makes the foul even more egregious. It is the very definition of a late tackle. |
