saengine: Thats what im saying. Not a major design point. The option to go amphibious is on the vehicle, a radical design change wouldnt be needed. If SA was to conduct heavy operations in regions with a lot of still water.....the amphibious option can be resurrected at a sacrifice of armour.
Shut uup ! You were telling lies before, claiming Badger can swim. Thief !
You think it's easy to reconfigure Badger that has extra underfloor armour heavy weight like an MRAP to start swimming competition?
Such engineering needs massive work and re-work and testing for battle field functionality.
Nigeria too can add more armour to Cobra APC and add ATGM missiles, Cobra is modular.
SANDF is getting Badgers that CANNOT swim.....if you ever get them in service by 2020 .
patches689: if the need arises armor can be removed and props fitted.
Note that they left the prow plate on the front of the vehicle (it pushes up a wave that keeps the nose of the vehical from diving under the water in choppy conditions)
Nigeria can fit BRV radar and BVR missiles on F-7 jet if need arises. We can also fit ATGM on Cobra APCs if need arises.
andrewza: The year somtjing is built does not make it modern or not modern.
At the beginning of this forum in 2010 to 2012, you Southies said all Nigerian weapons are old and not modern even when they have been upgraded, because SANDF purchased theirs in 2005 to 2010. Now you change story
saengine: Badger CAN swim. Option for amphibious crossing is on the vehicle. Nothing major to change. Since SANDF has no major requirement for amphibious crossing (no big lakes in SA) it is not a major design point.
Nope, Badger can NOT swim for SANDF, @andrewza says amphibious capability has been deleted from specs, or you will call him a big time SANDF navy officer fraudster? .
The first production begins later this year - first vehicles roll off the line at the beginning of next year
So it will have taken 9 years to design, upgrade and build the best IFV in Africa. (you arent very good at math are you??)
Badger project started in 1997....actually 18 years ago....
"May 26/13: Investigation? South Africa’s Times Live, “Military deal probe ‘waste of time'”:
“The public protector is believed to be investigating the 16-year delay in the project. Hoefyster was launched in 1997 locally and opened to international tenders in 2003. The vehicles are to arrive from next year, the last in 2023.”
The contract was issued in 2007. Defence Secretary Sam Gulube responds that he’s worried about the budget being insufficient."
patches689: 15 years between Veitnam and Iraq 1 21 years between Angolan war and now
Wow - such a big difference.
UNITA numbers peaked at 65,000 in 1990 (2 years after we left) and we spread over a vast area. We engaged in the South where UNITA presence was weakest and we did all the conventional fighting, not to mention that FNLA effectively ceased to exist by 1976 and operated on the opposite side of the country. MPLA + Cuba + Russia ammounted to 200 000 men.
We consistently defeated them with only 4000 men - this is confirmed by you.
Only 32 Battalion was composed of foreigners - Recce's were a South African unit.
O, so now you admit combat experience is not everything? Sophisticated weapons and training are what makes a military powerful?? Congratulations on another magnificent contradiction!!
And again, show us a major war America has fought alone in the last 100 years.
America can fight alone, sit down 1,000 km away and use cruise missiles to wipe out an army like SANDF.
Can South Africa do that?
USA goes to war to help where other existing armies were failing like Korea, Vietnam. USA goes to war with UN mandate, reason they don't fight alone. No country ever dares to challenge USA alone.
SANDF fought alone once and lost to Seleka teenagers in 13 hours .
Your video does not prove a 1,000m kill. Also, the Enfield in the video uses optical telescopic sights NOT the ordinary Iron Sights you claim possible.
Video just shows a man with a rifle, not target seen, we did not even see barrel of gun showing bullet was truly fired.
Teenagers post youtube worldwide and make any claims they like.
saengine: Why are you changing your story? You said it was a world record, which is why I corrected you. I never said that person would not be trained. But 1000m is a shot that even dedicated marksmen in police units can make. It's nothing to write home about. Okay maybe in Nigeria it is.
Show us how many policemen in South Africa have done 1,000m sniper kills.
saengine: No it is not a world record. Go back to school to correct your english. Police sharp shooters can hit a targer at 1000m. Something that many people can do is not a "world record".
Show us how many Policemen have scored 1,000 m hits on record among all the thousands of police snipers in the wold.
